CERN experiment WA89 has studied charmed particles produced by a Sigma^- beam at 340 GeV/c on nuclear targets. Production of particles which have light quarks in common with the beam is compared to production of those which do not. Considerable production asymmetries between D^- and D^p, D_s^ and D_s^+ and Lambda_c and Antilambda_c are observed. The results are compared with pion beam data and with theoretical calculations., LaTeX ; 16 pages including 4 ps figures

We report on a high-statistics search for the \t1540 resonance in $\Sigma^-$-nucleus collisions at 340 \gevc1 . No evidence for this resonance was found in our data sample which contains 13 millions $K^0_s \to \pi^+\pi^- $ decays above background. For the decay channel $\Theta^+ \to K^0_s p$ and the kinematic range $x_F>$ 0.05 we find the production cross section to be $BR(\Theta^+ \to K^0_s p)\cdot \sigma_0, Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We have measured the polarization of Ξ− hyperons produced inclusively by a Σ− beam of 340 GeV/c momentum in nuclear targets. From a sample of 880000 identified Ξ− decays, polarizations were determined in the range 0 < x F < 0.9 and pt≤1.6 GeV/c. The polarization w.r.t. the production normal is negative for xF≥ 0.3. At fixed values of x F , its magnitude increases with p t to maximum values which reach about 20% at large x F .

- Abstract
We report on a measurement of the inclusive cross sections of , , Ks0, + and - production by - and - of 345 GeV/c momentum and by neutrons of 260 GeV/c mean momentum in copper and carbon. The differential cross sections as function of pt2 show a distinct non-gaussian behavior above 1.2 (GeV/c)2. A comparison of the xF-dependence of , and K0 production with calculations using PYTHIA and the QGSM model is discussed.

We have measured the production of strange baryons and antibaryons in 340-GeV/c Σ−+C and 260-GeV/c n+C interactions. The single xF distributions show the expected leading particle effect, and the single pt2 distributions show a distinct nonthermal behavior. The xF distributions of Λ-Λ pairs indicate two different phase space distributions for the two coincident baryons. On the other hand two Λ¯’s show identical distributions. Momentum conservation during the formation process may represent a significant source for the observed behavior. (APS)

The production of charmed particles by Sigma- of 340 Gev/c momentum was studied in the hyperon beam experiment WA89 at the CERN-SPS, using the Omega-spectrometer. In two data-taking periods in 1993 and 1994 an integrated luminosity of 1600 microb^-1 on copper and carbon targets was recorded. From the reconstruction of 930 +- 90 charm particle decays in 10 decay channels production cross sections for D, antiD, Ds and Lambdac were determined in the region xF>0. Assuming an A^1 dependence of the cross section on the nucleon number, we calculate a total ccbar production cross section of sigma(x_F > 0) = 5.3+- 0.4(stat)+-1.0(syst)+1.0(Xi_c) microb per nucleon. The last term is an upper limit on the unknown contribution from charmed-strange baryon production.

The production of charmed particles by 340 GeV/c momentum Sigma(-) was studied in the hyperon beam experiment WA89 at the CERN-SPSI using the Omega-spectrometer. In two data-taking periods in 1993 and 1994 an integrated luminosity of 1600 mu b(-1) on copper and carbon targets was recorded. From the reconstruction of 930 +/- 90 charm particle decays in 10 decay channels production cross sections for D! D, D-s(-) and Lambda(c)(+) were determined in the region x(F) gt 0. Assuming an Al dependence of the cross section on the nucleon number, we calculate a total c (c) over bar production cross section of sigma(c (c) over bar)(x(F) gt 0) = 5.3 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 1.0 (syst) + 1.0 (Xi(c)) mu b per nucleon. The last term is an upper limit on the unknown contribution from charmed-strange baryon production.

Internet at the school change the way to see the documentation and the role of the school libraries. If the practices of the school librarian always dependent on multiple factors could be controlled - before the Web - today it is necessary to think the organization of documentation and its actors in a more complex way in order to deliver practices in response to new stakes of the « information society ».
