Fucoxanthin is a carotenoid, reddish-brown in color, which is mainly derived from marine organisms such as brown algae and diatoms, and has aroused extensive scientific interest due to its unique chemical structure and abundant biological activities. Studies have shown that fucoxanthin processes significant anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities. Its anti-inflammatory mechanisms primarily include inhibiting oxidative stress, regulating inflammatory factors, inducting cell autophagy, and resisting cell apoptosis, etc. The main mechanism of anti-cancer activity includes inducing cell autophagy and apoptosis mechanisms, regulating the cell cycle, inhibiting cell migration, and suppressing cell invasion, among other aspects. In this paper, the research progress of anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities and related mechanisms of action of fucoxanthin is briefly summarized, which provides the theoretical basis and reference for further research and development of fucoxanthin. The effects of laser parameters and the ablation mechanism in laser ablation of a carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide (C/SiC) composite are investigated in the present study. Six different power densities are provided, as well as six levels of pulse numbers, and then ablation experiments are conducted for the C/SiC composite, induced by a pulsed laser. Based on the experimental results, the characteristics of surface morphology and ablation behavior are discussed. It is revealed that the surface morphology of the C/SiC composite under laser irradiation usually includes three regions: the center region, the transition region, and the border region. With the increase of laser power density, the ablation of the center region becomes severe, surface cracks occur, and more spherical SiC particles are found in the transition region. As for scenarios involving multiple pulses, the damage occurs in the center region at low power density limits, within the first two layers below the surface. However, if the power density is relatively high, an ablation pit occurs in the center region when the pulse number is larger than 50. Meanwhile, the transition region and the border region diminish with increase of the pulse number. It is noted that both the power density and pulse number have noticeable effects on surface morphology and ablation behavior during laser ablation, which is helpful for material design and performance evaluation of C/SiC composites. Water flux distribution largely influences the heat transfer and solidification of continuously-cast steel billets. In this paper, a secondary cooling strategy of transverse non-uniform water flux (i.e., higher flux density on billet center), was established and compared with the uniform cooling strategy using mathematical modeling. Specifically, a heat transfer model and a cellular automaton finite element coupling model were established to simulate the continuous casting of C80D steel billet. The water flux was measured using different nozzle configurations to assist the modeling. The mathematical results were validated by comparing the surface temperature and the solidification structure. It is shown that the non-uniform cooling strategy enables the increase of corner temperature and reduction in surface temperature difference, while a higher reheating rate is found on the surface center of the billet. Moreover, the non-uniform cooling strategy can enhance the cooling effect and refine the solidification structure. Accordingly, the liquid pool length is shortened, and the equiaxed crystal density is increased along with the decreased equiaxed crystal ratio. The uniform cooling strategy contributes to reducing internal cracks of billet, and the non-uniform one is beneficial for surface quality and central segregation.
