By leveraging neural networks, we address the inverse problem of constructing a quantitative 2+1-flavor holographic QCD model based on state-of-the-art lattice QCD data. Our model demonstrates quantitative agreement with the latest lattice QCD results. We construct the full phase diagram at finite magnetic field $B$, baryon chemical potential $\mu_B$ and temperature $T$. We uncover rich phase structure with a first-order phase transition surface and a critical endpoint line within the 3-dimensional phase diagram. The critical endpoint at vanishing chemical potential aligns with current speculations in the lattice QCD literature. In particular, for large magnetic field, we find two critical endpoints in the $T$-$\mu_B$ plane. The critical exponents of the critical endpoints adhere to scaling relations and depend on the background magnetic field. Moreover, they are exhibit deviations from mean-field theory, highlighting the distinctive features of our holographic approach., Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures

Throughout the course of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, genetic variation has contributed to the spread and persistence of the virus. For example, various mutations have allowed SARS-CoV-2 to escape antibody neutralization or to bind more strongly to the receptors that it uses to enter human cells. Here, we compared two methods that estimate the fitness effects of viral mutations using the abundant sequence data gathered over the course of the pandemic. Both approaches are grounded in population genetics theory but with different assumptions. One approach, tQLE, features an epistatic fitness landscape and assumes that alleles are nearly in linkage equilibrium. Another approach, MPL, assumes a simple, additive fitness landscape, but allows for any level of correlation between alleles. We characterized differences in the distributions of fitness values inferred by each approach and in the ranks of fitness values that they assign to sequences across time. We find that in a large fraction of weeks the two methods are in good agreement as to their top-ranked sequences, i.e., as to which sequences observed that week are most fit. Integrated quantum light source is increasingly desirable in large-scale quantum information processing.~Despite recent remarkable advances, new material platform is constantly being explored for the fully on-chip integration of quantum light generation, active and passive manipulation, and detection. Here, for the first time, we demonstrate a gallium nitride (GaN) microring based quantum light generation in the telecom C-band, which has potential towards the monolithic integration of quantum light source.~In our demonstration, the GaN microring has a free spectral range of 330 GHz and a near-zero anomalous dispersion region of over 100 nm. The generation of energy-time entangled photon pair is demonstrated with a typical raw two-photon interference visibility of 95.5$\pm$6.5%, which is further configured to generate heralded single photon with a typical heralded second-order auto-correlation $g^{(2)}_{H}(0)$ of 0.045$\pm$0.001. Our results pave the way for developing chip-scale quantum photonic circuit.

The recent discovery of room temperature superconductivity (283 K) in carbonaceous sulfur hydride (C-S-H) has attracted lots of interests in ternary hydrogen rich materials. In this report, ternary hydride P-S-H has been synthesized through photochemical reaction from elemental sulfur (S), phosphorus (P) and molecular hydrogen (H2) at high pressures and room temperature. The Raman spectroscopy under pressure shows that H2S and PH3 compounds are synthesized after laser heating at 0.9 GPa and a ternary van der Waals compound P-S-H is synthesized with a further compression to 4.6 GPa. The P-S-H compound is probably a mixed alloy of PH3 and (H2S)2H2 with a guest-host structure similar to the C-S-H system. The ternary hydride can persist up to 35.6 GPa at least and shows two phase transitions at approximately 23.6 GPa and 32.8 GPa, respectively. The P-S-H ternary hydride in this report is a competitive candidate for new hydride superconductors with near room-temperature transitions.

We use Direct Coupling Analysis (DCA) to determine epistatic interactions between loci of variability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, segmenting genomes by month of sampling. We use full-length, high-quality genomes from the GISAID repository up to October 2021, in total over 3,500,000 genomes. We find that DCA terms are more stable over time than correlations, but nevertheless change over time as mutations disappear from the global population or reach fixation. Correlations are enriched for phylogenetic effects, and in particularly statistical dependencies at short genomic distances, while DCA brings out links at longer genomic distance. We discuss the validity of a DCA analysis under these conditions in terms of a transient Quasi-Linkage Equilibrium state.
