Low latitude ionosphere experiences complex dynamical and electrodynamical processes, which make the spatiotemporal variations of the corresponding electron density complicated and therefore influence trans‐ionosphere radio communications. The monitoring of low latitude dynamical drivers, such as neutral wind and ionospheric electric field, is essential for both dynamic mechanism investigations and applications. The Sanya Incoherent Scatter Radar Tristatic System (SYISR‐TS) was proposed with the main objective of low latitude ionospheric monitoring and investigation and has been successfully developed over the past decade. The system consists of the Sanya (18.3°N, 109.6°E) trans‐receiving main station with key parameters of ∼1,600 m2 antenna aperture, >4 MW peak power, <120 K system noise temperature, and ∼46 dBi normal gain, and Danzhou (19.5°N, 109.1°E) and Wenchang (19.6°N, 110.8°E) receiving only stations with key parameters of ∼790 m2 antenna aperture, <130 K system noise temperature, and ∼43 dBi normal gain. Three stations form a quasi‐equilateral triangle at Hainan Island and use Global Navigation Satellite System satellite common view technique to achieve the time synchronization with the uncertainty of the timing and time synchronization less than 50 and 10 ns, respectively. Initial collaborative satellite tracking and ionospheric common volume experiments among three stations have confirmed the detection ability of SYISR‐TS and the feasibility of achieving its scientific goals in the future. In the ionosphere, the generation and movement of electrons and ions are jointly determined by the solar radiation, photo‐chemistry, winds and electric fields. Monitoring the density of electrons, and winds and electric fields as well, is important for understanding and predicting the status of ionosphere. Among numerous ionospheric detection methods, Incoherent Scatter Radar (ISR) plays an important role due to its profiling multiple parameters capability. In this paper, we will describe the technical details and initial experiments of the newly built Sanya Incoherent Scatter Radar Tristatic System. It is also the world first tristatic ISR system using phased array technology, which can switch the beam direction quickly therefore increase the time resolution of measurements significantly. The formation of ice on the surface of the metallic casing of high-end equipment poses a potential threat to its operational safety and stability. One important factor that contributes to bonding failure at the ice-metal interface is stress concentration. This paper aims to investigate the effect of stress concentration on the bonding failure behavior at the ice-metal interface through numerical analysis. First, the forms of bonding failure are categorized. Afterwards, the stress distribution state at the corners of the ice-metal interface is determined by the interfacial stress singularity. Finally, numerical analysis is carried out to investigate the thermal stress distribution law at the corners of the interface during the cooling process of the ice-metal bonding, so as to elucidate the induced mechanism of the interfacial stress state on the bonding failure. This study can provide some reference and guidelines for the study of bonding failure at the ice-metal interface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper is concerned with construction of efficiently encodable nonbinary quasi-cyclic LDPC codes based on finite fields. Four classes of nonbinary quasi-cyclic LDPC codes are constructed. Experimental results show that codes constructed perform well with iterative decoding using a Fast Fourier Transform based q-ary sum-product algorithm and they achieve significant coding gains over Reed-Solomon codes of the same lengths and rates decoded with either algebraic hard-decision Berlekamp-Massey algorithm or algebraic soft-decision Kotter-Vardy algorithm. This paper presents five methods for constructing nonbinary LDPC codes based on finite geometries. These methods result in five classes of nonbinary LDPC codes, one class of cyclic LDPC codes, three classes of quasi-cyclic LDPC codes and one class of structured regular LDPC codes. Experimental results show that constructed codes in these classes decoded with iterative decoding based on belief propagation perform very well over the AWGN channel and they achieve significant coding gains over Reed-Solomon codes of the same lengths and rates with either algebraic hard-decision decoding or KotterVardy algebraic soft-decision decoding at the expense of a larger decoding computational complexity. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, finite fields were successfully used to construct linear block codes, especially cyclic codes, with large minimum distances for hard-decision algebraic decoding, such as Bose--Chaudhuri--Hocquenghem (BCH) and Reed--Solomon (RS) codes. This paper shows that finite fields can also be successfully used to construct algebraic low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for iterative soft-decision decoding. Methods of construction are presented. LDPC codes constructed by these methods are quasi-cyclic (QC) and they perform very well over the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), binary random, and burst erasure channels with iterative decoding in terms of bit-error probability, block-error probability, error-floor, and rate of decoding convergence, collectively. Particularly, they have low error floors. Since the codes are QC, they can be encoded using simple shift registers with linear complexity. This paper is concerned with construction of quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes for three different types of channels: the additive white Gaussian noise, the binary random erasure, and the binary burst erasure channels. Two algebraic methods for systematic construction of QC-LDPC codes are presented. Codes constructed perform well over all three types of channels. Quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes form an important subclass of LDPC codes. These codes have encoding advantage over other types of LDPC codes. This paper addresses the issue of efficient encoding of QC-LDPC codes. Two methods are presented to find the generator matrices of QC-LDPC codes in systematic-circulant (SC)form from their parity-check matrices, given in circulant form. Based on the SC form of the generator matrix of a QC-LDPC code, various types of encoding circuits using simple shift registers are devised. It is shown that the encoding complexity of a QC-LDPC code is linearly proportional to the number of parity bits of the code for serial encoding, and to the length of the code for high-speed parallel encoding. This paper presents a superposition method for constructing low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. Several classes of structured LDPC codes are constructed. Codes in these classes perform well with iterative decoding, and their Tanner graphs have girth at least six. Since its recognition as an impact structure 60 years ago, no volcanics were anticipated in the circular depression of the 14.8 Ma old Nördlinger Ries. Here, we describe for the first time a volcanic ash‐derived clinoptilolite‐heulandite‐buddingtonite bed within the 330 m thick Miocene lacustrine crater fill. Zircon U‐Pb ages of 14.20 ± 0.08 Ma point to the source of the volcanic ash in the Pannonian Basin, 760 km east of the Ries. The diagenetically derived zeolite‐feldspar bed occurs in laminated claystones of the Ries soda‐lake stage and represents the first unequivocal stratigraphic marker bed in this basin, traceable from marginal surface outcrops to 218 m below surface in the crater center. These relationships demonstrate a deeply bowl‐shaped geometry of crater fill sediments, not explainable by sediment compaction and corresponding stratigraphic backstripping alone. Since most of the claystones formed at shallow water depths, the bowl‐shaped geometry must reflect 134 +23/−49 m of sagging of the crater floor. We attribute the sagging to compaction and closure of the dilatant macro‐porosity of the deeply fractured and brecciated crater floor during basin sedimentation and loading, a process that lasted for more than 0.6 Myr. As a result, the outcrop pattern of the lithostratigraphic crater‐fill units in its present erosional plane forms a concentric pattern. Recognition of this volcanic ash stratigraphic marker in the Ries crater provides insights into the temporal and stratigraphic relationships of crater formation and subsidence that have implications for impact‐hosted lakes on Earth and Mars. Radiometric age and trace element characteristics of this ash layer are identical to that of a volcanic field in Hungary, so that the ash reflects a volcanic eruption 760 km east of the Ries basin. Recognition of this ash layer enables its use as a marker bed. The ash layer can be traced from surface outcrops to 218 m depth in drillings. This indicates that the strata are significantly inclined toward the crater center. Calculations of sediment compaction by further sediment load and burial only partially explain the observed deeply bowl‐shaped geometry. We attribute the additional sagging to the subsidence of the crater floor substrate, formed of rocks highly shattered by the impact event. Both effects cause a concentric pattern of outcropping strata in the partially eroded crater fill. The presence of the ash layer and its use to help disentangle the source and timing of subsidence (due to compaction of lake sediments, and closure of deeper, impact‐induced fractures), has important implications for lakes formed in impact craters on Earth and Mars.
