22. Highly solvent-dependent naphthalene diimide-based fluorescent polymer sensors for detecting p-xylene.

Abstract

P-xylene (PX), as one of xylenes, is a kind of very important chemical raw material. It is generally fabricated using methanol (MeOH) and toluene (TOL), and serves as a useful intermediary. However, it is difficult to use a simple and convenient tool to distinguish it from TOL and MeOH. Herein, we reported a simple naphthalene diimide-based polycaprolactone polymer (NDI-PCL) as a high-sensitive fluorescent sensor for xylene detection from MeOH and TOL. NDI-PCL was synthesized via ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone. NDI-PCL showed a remarkable fluorescence change from blue to green and yellow because of the formation of charge transfer (CT) interaction between naphthalene diimide (NDI) and aromatic solvents. NDI-PCL was successfully applied as the high-sensitive sensor for discriminating binary solvent mixtures such as PX in TOL, MeOH in PX, and MeOH in TOL, and their limit of detection (LOD) were as low as 19 ppm, 16 ppm and 9 ppm. Abstract

In recent years, photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors have attracted much attention due to their inherent advantages, such as ease of operation, high sensitivity, and structural diversity. Compared with conventional PEC detection methods, self‐illuminated PEC sensors do not require an external light source, which makes them more attractive in terms of instrument miniaturization and simplified operation. Chemiluminescence (CL), a straightforward and efficient excitation source, can be harnessed for PEC sensors. In this review, we provide a summary on the recently reported chemiluminescence‐driven PEC sensors. Initially, we briefly describe the current chemiluminescent systems employed in PEC sensors, including luminol and peroxyoxalate CL systems. Subsequently, the CL‐exciting modes and the design strategies for self‐excited PEC sensors are explored. The subsequent sections of the paper predominantly focus on discussing the applications of such PEC sensors in the detection of various target analytes. 42. Deep-Red Emissive Fluorescent Probe for Sensitive Detection of Cysteine in Milk and Living Cells.

Abstract

Cysteine (Cys) is a critical biologically active sulfhydryl molecule that plays essential roles in anti-oxidation and maintains protein structure and function. In addition, Cys is also a vital nutrient in many foods. Therefore, the detection of Cys is highly required for food quality control and revealing the biological functions of Cys. Herein, we presented an effective fluorescent probe (denoted as DDP-C) for sensing Cys. The probe can produce a swift off–on fluorescence response to Cys and two other significant biothiols (homocysteine and glutathione) with emission in the deep-red to the near-infrared region (600–700 nm). The probe has a large Stokes shift (140 nm), as well as high selectivity and sensitivity. The linear range for Cys detection is 0.5–20 μM, and the detection limit is 37 nM. DDP-C can also realize the quantitative determination of Cys in milk samples and imaging of intracellular biothiols. Therefore, the probe can serve as a powerful tool for Cys sensing.
