1. Intermittent QPO properties of MAXI J1820+070 revealed by Insight-HXMT

Abstract

We investigate the dynamical properties of low frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) observed from the black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070 during the early part of its 2018 outburst, when the system was in a bright hard state. To this aim, we use a series of observations from the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope Insight-HXMT, and apply a wavelet decomposition (weighted wavelet Z-transforms) to the X-ray light-curve. We find that the QPO phenomenon is intermittent within each individual observation, with some sub-intervals where the oscillation is strongly detected (high root-mean-square amplitude) and others where it is weak or absent. The average life time of individual QPO segments is ~ 5 oscillation cycles, with a 3 sigma tail up to ~ 20 cycles. There is no substantial difference between the energy spectra during intervals with strong and weak/absent QPOs. We discuss two possible reasons for the intermittent QPO strength, within the precessing jet model previously proposed for MAXI J1820+070. In the rigid precession model, intermittent QPOs are predicted to occur with a coherence Q ~ a few when the disk alignment time-scale is only a few times the precession time-scale. Alternatively, we suggest that changes in oscillation amplitude can be caused by changes in the jet speed. We discuss a possible reason for the intermittent QPO strength, within the precessing jet model previously proposed for MAXI J1820+070: we suggest that changes in oscillation amplitude are caused by changes in the jet speed. We argue that a misaligned, precessing jet scenario is also consistent with other recent observational findings that suggest an oscillation of the Compton reflection component in phase with the QPOs., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

We use the anticorrelation between the equivalent width (EW) of the C\,\textsc{iv} 1549 {\AA} emission line and the continuum luminosity in the quasars rest frame (Baldwin effect) to measure their luminosity distance as well as estimate cosmological parameters. We obtain a sample of 471 Type I quasars with the UV/optical spectra and EW (C\,\textsc{iv}) measurements in the redshift range of $2.3< z< 7.1$ including 25 objects at $5 < z < 7.1$, which can be used to investigate the C\,\textsc{iv} Baldwin effect and determine cosmological luminosity distance. The relation $EW(C\,\textsc{iv}) \propto {(\lambda {L_\lambda })^\gamma }$ can be applied to check the inverse correlation between the C\,\textsc{iv} EW and ${L_\lambda }$ of quasars and give their distance, and the data suggest that the EW of C\,\textsc{iv} is inversely correlated with continuum monochromatic luminosities. On the other hand, we also consider dividing the Type I quasars sample into various redshift bins, which can be used to check if the C\,\textsc{iv} EW-luminosity relation depends on the redshift. Finally, we apply a combination of Type I quasars and SNIa Pantheon to test the property of dark energy concerning whether or not its density deviates from the constant, and give the statistical results.

Abstract

Based on the Chinese historical sunspots drawings, a data set consisting of the scanned images and all their digitized parameters from 1925 to 2015 have been constructed. In this paper, we briefly describe the developmental history of sunspots drawings in China. This paper describes the preliminary processing processes that strat from the initial data (inputing to the scanning equipment) to the parameters extraction, and finally summarizes the general features of this dataset. It is the first systematic project in Chinese solar-physics community that the historical observation of sunspots drawings were digitized. Our data set fills in an almost ninety years historical gap, which span 60 degrees from east to west and 50 degrees from north to south and have no continuous and detailed digital sunspot observation information. As a complementary to other sunspots observation in the world, our dataset provided abundant information to the long term solar cycles solar activity research., Comment: 40pages,m10 figures, 9 tables

Abstract

Higher-order mode locking has been proposed to reduce the thermal noise limit of reference cavities. By locking a laser to the HG02 mode of a 10-cm long all ULE cavity, and measure its performance with the three-cornered-hat method among three independently stabilized lasers, we demonstrate a thermal noise limited performance of a fractional frequency instability of 4.9E-16. The results match the theoretical models with higher-order optical modes. The achieved laser instability improves the all ULE short cavity results to a new low level., Comment: 12pages, 4figures

Abstract

Phosphorus (P) cycle plays a vital role in maintaining the structure and function of wetland ecosystems. However, research knowledge on high-altitude wetland ecosystems is very poor. In the present study, plant communities, soil P fractions and other properties and their transformation were investigated under the influence of four types of degradation categories, namely non-, light-, medium-, and severe degraded (ND, LD, MD, and SD, respectively) wetlands of Tibetan Plateau. The degradation of wetlands causes succession in the plant communities from wet to dry mesophytic communities, significantly reducing plant coverage and biomasses. As a result, soil water content (SWC), soil organic carbon (SOC), and soil total nitrogen (TN) contents decrease with increasing degradation. Plant P accumulation usually showed a decreasing trend with increasing levels of degradation. Soil total P, available P, inorganic P, Labile inorganic P, P mineralization rate, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) concentration increased from non-degradation to light degradation and then declined until severe degradation. The redundancy analysis (RDA) ranking further revealed that labile organic P is the main source of soil available P and soil ALP play important role in P transformation. These results suggest that there prevails a nonlinear change on soil P pool and turnover rate to wetland degradation degree. The study thus provides a mechanistic understanding of alpine wetland degradation driven soil P dynamics and cycling, which would facilitate the restoration of nutrient-based degraded wetlands. Abstract

The Global Consortium for the Classification of Fungi and fungus-like taxa is an international initiative of more than 550 mycologists to develop an electronic structure for the classification of these organisms. The members of the Consortium originate from 55 countries/regions worldwide, from a wide range of disciplines, and include senior, mid-career and early-career mycologists and plant pathologists. The Consortium will publish a biannual update of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa, to act as an international scheme for other scientists. Notes on all newly published taxa at or above the level of species will be prepared and published online on the Outline of Fungi website (https://www.outlineoffungi.org/), and these will be finally published in the biannual edition of the Outline of Fungi and fungus-like taxa. Comments on recent important taxonomic opinions on controversial topics will be included in the biannual outline. For example, 'to promote a more stable taxonomy in Fusarium given the divergences over its generic delimitation', or 'are there too many genera in the Boletales?' and even more importantly, 'what should be done with the tremendously diverse 'dark fungal taxa?' There are undeniable differences in mycologists' perceptions and opinions regarding species classification as well as the establishment of new species. Given the pluralistic nature of fungal taxonomy and its implications for species concepts and the nature of species, this consortium aims to provide a platform to better refine and stabilise fungal classification, taking into consideration views from different parties. In the future, a confidential voting system will be set up to gauge the opinions of all mycologists in the Consortium on important topics. 13. Global 3‐D Distributions of O+ and H+ Ions in the Inner Magnetosphere Reconstructed by Voxel Tomography From TWINS ENA Images During a Large Magnetic Storm.

Abstract

Using improved voxel tomography method for energetic neutral atom (ENA) emission, global 3‐D distributions of O+ and H+ ions in the inner magnetosphere are reconstructed from ENA images remotely sensed by the Two Wide‐angle Imaging Neutral‐atom Spectrometers (TWINS) mission during 15 July 2012 magnetic storm. The compositions of ENA‐O and ‐H are separated by statistical fitting based on start‐pulse‐height distributions. The errors in iterative inversions range from 0.12 to 0.28 at 16 and 32 keV. The reconstructed ion flux intensities at different storm phases match well with independent satellite in situ measurements. It is found that: (a) Responding to a pulse jump of solar wind dynamic pressure along with a northward reversal of IMF Bz during the initial phase, H+ ion fluxes enhanced greatly on outer dipole L‐shell of 6.5–8.0 in pre‐midnight off equator. Ts‐05 model tracing and pitch angles distribution of line‐of‐sights for ENA imaging suggest these be likely attributed to nearly field‐aligned earthward plasma flow from plasma‐sheet boundary layer region. Meanwhile, the trapped ring current (RC) ion fluxes peak at L ∼ 5 in the pre‐midnight equatorial region, decreasing with increasing latitude. (b) During the storm maximum the equatorial O+ fluxes have two separated peaks. The main one appeared in dusk at L ∼ 4, while the minor one in the pre‐dawn appeared at very low L ∼ 2.75 where the flux ratio O+/(O++H+) reached 60%. (c) The O+ flux fractions over equator exhibit prominent dusk‐dawn asymmetry, reversing from dusk quadrant prevailing before the main phase to dawn ascendant during the storm maximum. Abstract

Sympoventuriaceae (Venturiales, Dothideomycetes) comprises genera including saprophytes, endophytes, plant pathogens, as well as important animal or human opportunistic pathogens with diverse ecologies and wide geographical distributions. Although the taxonomy of Sympoventuriaceae has been well studied, generic boundaries within the family remain poorly resolved due to the lack of type materials and molecular data. To address this issue and establish a more stable and reliable classification system in Sympoventuriaceae, we performed multilocus phylogenetic analyses using sequence data of seven genes (SSU, ITS, LSU, act1, tub2, tef1 and rpb2) with increased taxon sampling and morphological analysis. The molecular data combined with detailed morphological studies of 143 taxa resolved 22 genera within the family, including one new genus, eight new species, five new combinations and one new name. Finally, we further investigated the evolutionary history of Sympoventuriaceae by reconstructing patterns of lifestyle diversification, indicating the ancestral state to be saprophytic, with transitions to endophytic, animal or human opportunistic and plant pathogens. Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between bone quality in terms of metabolism, homeostasis of elements, bone mineral density (BMD), and microstructure and keel-bone fractures in laying hens (Gallus gallus domesticus). One hundred and twenty 17 week old Lohmann White laying hens with normal keel bones were individually housed in furnished cages for 25 weeks. Birds were then euthanased and dissected to assess keel-bone status at 42 weeks. Serum and keel-bone samples from normal keel (NK) and fractured keel (FK) hens were collected to determine the previously mentioned bone quality parameters. The results showed FK hens to have higher levels of the components of osteocalcin, greater alkaline phosphatase activity in serum and keel bones, and greater tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) activity in keel bones, compared to NK hens. Additionally, FK hens also had higher concentrations of Li, B, K, Cu, As, Se, Sn, Hg, and Pb, but lower concentrations of Na, P, and Ca. Moreover, FK hens showed decreased bone microstructural parameters including bone volume/tissue volume, trabecular number, degree of anisotropy, connectivity density, and BMD, but increased trabecular separation. Meanwhile, no differences were detected in serum TRAP activity, trabecular thickness, bone surface, or bone surface/bone volume. Results showed laying hens with keel-bone fractures to have differences in bone metabolism, elements of home-ostasis, bone microstructure parameters, and BMD. Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To explore the underlying mechanism of ncRNA (MIR22HG) in thyroid papillary carcinomas. PATIENTS AND METHODS: 40 pairs of thyroid papillary carcinomas tissues and adjacent normal tissues were collected from patients of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University, who underwent oral surgery. qRT-PCR was applied to detect the expression of MIR22HG, miR-24- 3p and p27kip1 in tissues and cells. Western blot was used to measure the protein level of p27kip1 in tissues and cells. Kaplan-Meier plot was used to analyze the overall survival rates in thyroid papillary carcinomas. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation relationship among MIR22HG, miR-24-3p and p27kip1 expression. Flow cytometric assay was applied to measure cell apoptosis. Transwell assay was used to assess cell migration and invasion abilities. Luciferase reporter assay was applied to verify the molecular relationships among MIR22HG, miR-24-3p and p27kip1 in thyroid papillary carcinomas. RESULTS: L ncRNA M IR22HG a nd p 27kip e xpressed low while miR-24-3p expressed high in thyroid papillary carcinomas and cells. Overexpression of MIR22HG inhibited cell proliferation, migration and invasion, whereas promoted cell apoptosis in thyroid papillary carcinomas cells. However, these effects were reversed by upregulation of miR-24-3p. Further exploration showed that the promoted effects of miR-24- 3p mimics on thyroid papillary carcinomas cells were suppressed by enhancing p27kip1 expression. Meanwhile, MIR22HG induced p27kip1 expression by binding miR-24-3p in thyroid papillary carcinomas. CONCLUSIONS: MIR22HG inhibited cell growth through modulating p27kip1 by decreasing miR-24-3p expression in thyroid papillary carcinomas, providing a new modulate mechanism and therapeutic targets in thyroid papillary carcinomas. 46. A Field Study of Factors that Affect Acid-Volatile Sulfide Concentrations.

Abstract

The spatial variability of acid-volatile sulfide (AVS) and its influential factors were studied through regression analysis to explain the spatial distribution of AVS and to predict the variability of metal availability under changing conditions simply and effectively. The AVS equation is used to derive oxidation-reduction potential (Eh), sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), organic carbon (OC), and total sulfur (TS). The relationships of these variables with AVS were then analyzed. Moreover, their effect on AVS was quantified through linear regression (LR) and principal component regression (PCR). These two regression equations were analyzed using a histogram of residual values and by comparing mean relative error (MRE) and root-mean-square error (RMSE) values. LR (Model 1) and PCR (Model 2) models were established as well. The MRE and RMSE values in the PCR model were 21.9 and 25.9%, respectively. In terms of these values, the PCR model is more accurate than the LR model. Furthermore, its predictive results were more reasonable. In conclusion, the PCR model can be used to predict the AVS concentrations based on the OC, Eh, SRB, and TS values. This model simplifies and facilitates the evaluation of metal toxicity under field conditions and can thus be used to manage sediments contaminated with metals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
