Abstract

Porous nanosponges, percolated with a three-dimensional network of 10-nm sized ligaments, recently emerged as promising substrates for plasmon-enhanced spectroscopy and (photo-)catalysis. Experimental and theoretical work suggests surface plasmon localization in some hot-spot modes as the physical origin of their unusual optical properties, but so far the existence of such hot-spots has not been proven. Here we use scattering-type scanning near-field nano-spectroscopy on individual gold nanosponges to reveal spatially and spectrally confined modes with 10 nanometer localization lengths by mapping the local optical density of states. High quality factors of individual hot-spots of more than 40 are demonstrated. A statistical analysis of near-field intensity fluctuations unveils plasmonics in the strong localization regime. The observed field localization and enhancement make such nanosponges an appealing platform for a variety of applications ranging from nonlinear optics to strong-coupling physics., Comment: 23 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Nano Letters

5. A new broadband, interferometric scanning near-field spectroscopy technique for probing the time-domain response of single nanoparticles

Abstract

Metallische, halbleitende und dielektrische Nanopartikel sind hervorragende Werkzeuge zur Lokalisierung von Licht auf der Nanoskala. Ihre optischen Formresonanzen begrenzen Licht in bestimmten lokalisierten Moden und in spektralen Bereichen. Oft sind die Lebensdauern der optischen Resonanzen dieser Partikel so kurz, im Bereich von wenigen Femtosekunden, dass direkte zeitaufgelöste Messungen ihrer lokalisierten optischen Nahfelder äußerst schwierig sind. Wir verwenden einem optischen Rasternahfeldmikroskop (sSNOM) in Kombination mit spektraler Interferometrie einzelne MAPbI3-Perowskit-Nanopartikel analysieren. Aufgrund einer Kopplung von Exzitonen an die Mie-Resonanzen der Partikel erwartet man deutliche Fano-Resonanzen in den optischen Spektren der Partikel. Erbringen wir durch die Messung von Amplitude und Phase des lokalen optischen Feldes der Partikel mit hoher räumlicher und spektraler Phase einen direkten Nachweis für diese Fano-Resonanzen.

15. Surface‐Energy‐Driven Growth of ZnO Hexagonal Microtube Optical Resonators.

Abstract

A distinct “split and recoalescence” growth mechanism of tubular ZnO micro/nanostructures is observed for the first time. On the basis of experimental growth studies and first‐principles calculations, it is proposed that H2/H2O vapor, added to the traditional carbothermal reduction process, changes the intrinsic surface energy of ZnO crystal, which affects the ZnO crystal growth mode and subsequently controls the geometry of ZnO micro/nanotubes. It is shown that these tubular ZnO micro/nanostructures exhibit regular hexagonal cross sections and smooth outer and inner surfaces. Optical studies of ZnO micro/nanotubes reveal characteristic coherent intensity modulations of their emission spectra which reflect the excitation of either whispering gallery modes or wave‐guided modes. The specific type of mode can be selected by controlling the microtube geometry, specifically by its wall thickness to diameter ratio, as demonstrated both experimentally by photoluminescence spectroscopy, and theoretically by finite‐element‐method simulations.
