7. Reconstructing Electrically Conductive Nanofiltration Membranes with an Aniline-Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes Interlayer for Highly Effective Toxic Organic Treatment

Abstract

Conductive nanofiltration (CNF) membranes hold great promise for removing small organic pollutants from water through enhanced Donnan exclusion and electrocatalytic degradation. However, current CNF membranes face limitations in conductivity, structural stability, and nanochannel control strategies. This work addresses these challenges by introducing aniline-functionalized carbon nanotubes (NH2-CNTs) as an interlayer. NH2-CNTs enhance the dispersibility and adhesion of pristine carbon nanotubes, leading to a more conductive and stable composite nanofiltration membrane. The redesigned NH2-CNTs interlayered conductive nanofiltration (NICNF) membrane exhibits a 10-fold increase in conductivity and a high response degree (80%) with excellent cyclic stability, surpassing existing CNF membranes. The synergistic effects of enhanced Donnan exclusion, voltage switching, and electrocatalysis enable the NICNF membrane to achieve selective recovery of mixed dyes, 98.97% removal of residual wastewater toxicity, and a 5.2-fold increase in permeance compared to the commercial NF270 membrane. This research paves the way for next-generation multifunctional membranes capable of the efficient recovery and degradation of toxic organic pollutants in wastewater.

8. Dynamical fermion mass generation and exciton spectra in graphene

Abstract

The Coulomb interaction between massless Dirac fermions may induce dynamical chiral symmetry breaking by forming excitonic pairs in clean graphene, leading to semimetal-insulator transition. If the Dirac fermions have zero bare mass, an exact continuous chiral symmetry is dynamically broken and thus there are massless Goldstone excitons. If the Dirac fermions have a small bare mass, an approximate continuous chiral symmetry is dynamically broken and the resultant Goldstone type excitons become massive, which is analogous to what happens in QCD. In this paper, after solving Dyson-Schwinger gap equation in the presence of a small bare fermion mass, we found a remarkable reduction of the critical Coulomb interaction strength for excitonic pair formation and a strong enhancement of dynamical fermion mass. We then calculate the masses of Goldstone type excitons using the SVZ sum rule method and operator product expansion technique developed in QCD and find that the exciton masses are much larger than bare fermion mass but smaller than dynamical fermion mass gap. Abstract

Based on the SU (2) L ×SU(2) R × U (1) model with an U (1) family symmetry, we obtain the lepton flavor mixing matrix and research on the neutrino masses. In the model we consider, the Lagragian density which yields the Dirac masses for the leptons is U (1) family invariant, so both the mass matrix for the charge leptons and the Dirac mass matrix for the neutrinos are of the Fritzsch-type. But, generally speaking, neutrinos may have also Majorana masses. In that situation, the effective mass matrix for the light neutrinos is no longer of the Fritzsch type. We make some assumptions on the phases of the neutrino Majorana mass matrix to avoid diagonalizing the non-hermitian matrix. Then, we obtain the lepton flavor mixing matrix. The numerical calculation which is based on the lepton flavor mixing matrix shows that the model we consider may not fit the present result of the neutrino mixing experiment.
