Background: Nitraria sibirica Pall. is one of the pioneer tree species in saline–alkali areas due to its extreme salt tolerance. However, the lack of information on its genome limits the further exploration of the molecular mechanisms in N. sibirica under salt stress. Methods: In this study, we used single-molecule real-time (SMRT) technology based on the PacBio Iso-Seq platform to obtain transcriptome data from N. sibirica under salt treatment for the first time, which is helpful for our in-depth analysis of the salt tolerance and molecular characteristics of N. sibirica. Results: Our results suggested that a total of 234,508 circular consensus sequences (CCSs) with a mean read length of 2121 bp were obtained from the 19.26 Gb raw data. Furthermore, based on transcript cluster analysis, 93,713 consensus isoforms were obtained, including 92,116 high-quality isoforms. After removing redundant sequences, 49,240 non-redundant transcripts were obtained from high-quality isoforms. A total of 37,261 SSRs, 1816 LncRNAs and 47,314 CDSs, of which 40,160 carried complete ORFs, were obtained. Based on our transcriptome data, we also analyzed the coding genes of H+-PPase, and the results of both bioinformatics and functional analyses indicated that the gene prediction via full-length transcripts obtained by SMRT technology is reliable and effective. In summary, our research data obtained by SMRT technology provides more reliable and accurate information for the further analysis of the regulatory network and molecular mechanism of N. sibirica under salt stress. Plant salt tolerance relies on a coordinated functioning of different tissues and organs. Salinity tissue tolerance is one of the key traits that confer plant adaptation to saline environment. This trait implies maintenance low cytosolic Na+/K+ ratio in metabolically active cellular compartments. In this study, we used Nitraria sibirica Pall. a perennial woody halophyte species, to understand the mechanistic basis of its salinity tissue tolerance. The results showed that the growth of seedlings was stimulated by 100–200 mM NaCl treatment. The ions distribution analysis showed that the leaves act as an Na+ sink, while the plant roots possess superior K+ retention. The excessive Na+ absorbed from the soil was mainly transported to the shoot and was eventuallysequestrated into mesophyll vacuoles in the leaves. As a result, N. sibirica could keep the optimal balance of K+/Na+ at a tissue- and cell-specific level under saline condition. To enable this, N. sibirica increased both vacuolar H+-ATPase and H+-PPase enzymes activities and up-regulated the expressions of NsVHA , NsVP1 and NsNHX1 genes. Vacuolar Na+ sequestration in the leaf mesophyll, mediated by NsVHA , NsVP1 and NsNHX1 , reduced the Na+ concentration in cytosol and inhibited further K+ loss. Meanwhile, N. sibirica enhanced the Two Pore K+ expression at the transcriptional level to promote K+ efflux from vacuole into cytoplasm, assisting in maintaining cytosolic K+ homeostasis. It is concluded that the tissue tolerance traits such as vacuolar Na+ sequestration and intracellular K+ homeostasis are critical to confer adaptation of N. sibirica to soil salinity. Flexible electronics incorporating built-in thin-film semiconductors with soft substrates allow devices or systems to conform to desired shapes, creating opportunities for various novel applications. High radio-frequency (RF) power flexible devices play significant roles in flexible wireless communication and other miniaturized microwave systems in the future. However, high power operations of devices generate a massive amount of heat, and if not dissipated effectively, the excessive heat can degrade the performance of flexible active devices and even cause irreversible damage to the systems. In this work, we present a hybrid heat dissipation structure that can be used in flexible electronics where significant heat dissipation is needed. The structure was designed with finite element method-based simulations with the goal of achieving both high heat dissipation efficiency and mechanical flexibility. The structure was fabricated using a phase transition technique, greatly simplifying the fabrication process without need of handling liquid in the fabrication process, and was tested on an ultra-thin flexible AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT). The maximum power handled by the heat-managed HEMT measured from the IDS–VDS curve was 2.33 times larger than a reference HEMT without the heat dissipation structure. Versatile wood cellulose, the most prototypical abundant polymer on earth, is considered a promising natural material for the fabrication of biodegradable electronics. The development of biodegradable electronics may help alleviate the adverse environmental impact caused by the fast‐growing electronic waste (e‐waste). The focus of this review is to discuss recent major advances in biodegradable electronics with versatile wood cellulose in terms of supporting substrates and functional components. First, the biological biodegradation and structural hierarchy of versatile wood cellulose is briefly introduced, followed by highlighting three types of cellulose substrates (opaque and hazy cellulose paper, transparent and clear cellulose film, and transparent and hazy cellulose film) for biodegradable electronics. Then, recent progress and research achievements in the use of versatile wood cellulose with multiscale dimensions in biodegradable electronics as a functional component (e.g., advanced light management layer, high capacitance dielectric, and ionic conductor) or even smart materials (e.g., mechanochromic layer, humidity sensing layer, adaptable adhesive layer, and piezoelectric component) are summarized in detail. Microwave electronics have evolved from bulky waveguide and vacuum tube‐based format to smaller and lighter board‐based electronics, and then to the highly miniaturized, chip‐based solid‐state form. Spurred by the advent of high‐performance flexible inorganic single‐crystalline semiconductors, a new opportunity of technology evolution from rigid microwave electronics to flexible and/or stretchable microwave electronics has emerged. The new forms of microwave electronics are expected to provide novel functions to be achieved with advanced materials, device, and system design considerations and innovative fabrication methods. Over the last years, some microwave components, modules, and systems with operation frequency greater than or equal to 1 GHz in the flexible/stretchable form factors are demonstrated. These demonstrations have alluded to the prospects of the new stage of microwave electronics evolution. Herein, a comprehensive review of the microwave/flexible microwave electronics that are demonstrated up to date is provided. An introduction to the need of flexible/stretchable microwave electronics emphasizes the motivation and potential influences of this new growing field. This review also highlights important developments in transistors, diodes, various passives, antennas, circuits, and system demonstrations, all in flexible or stretchable forms. Remorins (REMs) play an important role in the ability of plants to adapt to adverse environments. PeREM6.5, a protein of the REM family in Populus euphratica (salt-resistant poplar), was induced by NaCl stress in callus, roots and leaves. We cloned the full-length PeREM6.5 from P. euphratica and transformed it into Escherichia coli and Arabidopsis thaliana. PeREM6.5 recombinant protein significantly increased the H+-ATPase hydrolytic activity and H+ transport activity in P. euphratica plasma membrane (PM) vesicles. Yeast two-hybrid assay showed that P. euphratica REM6.5 interacted with RPM1-interacting protein 4 (PeRIN4). Notably, the PeREM6.5-induced increase in PM H+-ATPase activity was enhanced by PeRIN4 recombinant protein. Overexpression of PeREM6.5 in Arabidopsis significantly improved salt tolerance in transgenic plants in terms of survival rate, root growth, electrolyte leakage and malondialdehyde content. Arabidopsis plants overexpressing PeREM6.5 retained high PM H+-ATPase activity in both in vivo and in vitro assays. PeREM6.5- transgenic plants had reduced accumulation of Na+ due to the Na+ extrusion promoted by the H+-ATPases. Moreover, the H+ pumps caused hyperpolarization of the PM, which reduced the K+ loss mediated by the depolarization-activated channels in the PM of salinized roots. Therefore, we conclude that PeREM6.5 regulated H+-ATPase activity in the PM, thus enhancing the plant capacity to maintain ionic homeostasis under salinity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previous studies have indicated that nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) has an important role in the pathogenesis of epilepsy. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the expression of microRNA (miRNA)‑146a, phosphorylated (p)‑P65/P65, B‑cell lymphoma‑2(Bcl‑2)/Bcl‑2‑associated X protein (Bax) and pro‑inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)‑6, IL‑1β and tumor necrosis factor (TNF‑α) in the brain tissue of rats with epilepsy. Sprague‑Dawley rats were used to establish the epilepsy model using the lithium‑pilocarpine method. The expression of miR‑146a, pro‑inflammatory cytokines, P‑glycoprotein (P‑gp), Bcl‑2/Bax and p‑P65/P65 were assessed by reverse transcription‑semi‑quantitative polymerase chain reaction, enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assay and western blotting, respectively. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was used to determine the pathology of epilepsy. The current findings revealed that the expression of miR‑146a was greater in the model group compared with the control group, and that the expression of miR‑146a reached a maximum at 7 days post‑treatment. The expression levels of IL‑1β, IL‑6 and TNF‑α were significantly reduced in the miR‑146a antagonist group when compared with the model group. Additionally, the expression levels of P‑gp and p‑P65/P65 were significantly reduced following the addition of the miR‑146a antagonist, whereas the expression levels of Bcl‑2/Bax significantly increased under the same conditions. Electronic systems built on flexible plastic films and stretchable rubber sheets have attracted new applications in many emerging fields. Integration of high-speed electronics such as microwave power amplifiers and switches can extend the applications even further with wireless capabilities. As such, flexible and stretchable microwave electronics represent opportunities for future electronics where remote capabilities are desired. Here, we review advances in numerous types of microelectronic devices used for fast, flexible, and stretchable electronic devices, as well as flexible and stretchable passive elements and circuitries. We first introduce the challenges associated with design and fabrication, and the characteristics required for high-frequency operation of the devices on foreign substrates. Second, we review the recent efforts that were made utilizing different types of high-performance semiconductors, which are ideal for high-speed flexible and stretchable electronics, such as silicon, compound semiconductors, and 1-D and 2-D materials. Third, passive electronic components fabricated on such substrates, including inductors, capacitors, and transmission lines, are reviewed. Finally, we discuss the flexible and stretchable microwave electronics at the circuit level and review the recent advances in making numerous types of flexible and stretchable microwave circuits for diverse applications. Abstract: This paper is keeping with the topic of two papers which treated dynamic reliability problems and were presented in previous conferences. Its aim is to confirm the potentialities of a method which combines the high modeling ability of the piecewise deterministic processes and the great computing power inherent to the Monte Carlo simulation. This method is now applied to a simplified but realistic offshore oil production system which is a hybrid system combining continuous-time and discrete-time dynamics. Abstract: We present a numerical method to compute an optimal maintenance date for the test case of the heated hold-up tank. The system consists of a tank containing a fluid whose level is controlled by three components: two inlet pumps and one outlet valve. A thermal power source heats up the fluid. The failure rates of the components depends on the temperature, the position of the three components monitors the liquid level in the tank and the liquid level determines the temperature. Therefore, this system can be modeled by a hybrid process where the discrete (components) and continuous (level, temperature) parts interact in a closed loop. We model the system by a piecewise deterministic Markov process, propose and implement a numerical method to compute the optimal maintenance date to repair the components before the total failure of the system. The modification of BT ceramic particles was achieved using hydrogen peroxide and vinyltriethoxysilane, resulting in the production of core–shell-structured nano-materials (VTS@BT). Upon initiation, moderately cross-linked XL-VTS@BT/PVDF composites were prepared by reacting them with modified polyvinylidene fluoride (MDPVDF). As the amount of VTS@BT increased, the dielectric constant of the composite material increased from 7.89 to 19.1, while the dielectric loss increased only slightly from 0.058 to 0.075. Furthermore, as the filling amount of VTS@BT increased, the grain size gradually increased, the nucleation rate decreased, and the addition of crosslinking agents caused a minor transformation of the β-crystalline phase to the α-crystalline phase. The moderate cross-linking improved the breakdown strength and energy storage density of the composite material, with a cross-linked structure composite material at 10wt% addition achieving an energy storage density of 10.36 J/cm3 at an electric field strength of 340MV/m, which was nearly a 57% increase in energy storage density compared to PVDF. 14-3-3 proteins are widely distributed in eukaryotic cells and play an important role in plant growth, development, and stress tolerance. This study revealed nine 14-3-3 genes from the genome of Nitraria sibirica Pall., a halophyte with strong salt tolerance. The physicochemical properties, multiple sequence alignment, gene structure and motif analysis, and chromosomal distributions were analyzed, and phylogenetic analysis, cis-regulatory elements analysis, and gene transcription and expression analysis of Ns14-3-3s were conducted. The results revealed that the Ns14-3-3 gene family consists of nine members, which are divided into two groups: ε (four members) and non-ε (five members). These members are acidic hydrophilic proteins. The genes are distributed randomly on chromosomes, and the number of introns varies widely among the two groups. However, all genes have similar conserved domains and three-dimensional protein structures. The main differences are found at the N-terminus and C-terminus. The promoter region of Ns14-3-3s contains multiple cis-acting elements related to light, plant hormones, and abiotic stress responses. Transcriptional profiling and gene expression pattern analysis revealed that Ns14-3-3s were expressed in all tissues, although with varying patterns. Under salt stress conditions, Ns14-3-3 1a, Ns14-3-3 1b, Ns14-3-3 5a, and Ns14-3-3 7a showed significant changes in gene expression. Ns14-3-3 1a expression decreased in all tissues, Ns14-3-3 7a expression decreased by 60% to 71% in roots, and Ns14-3-3 1b expression increased by 209% to 251% in stems. The most significant change was observed in Ns14-3-3 5a, with its expression in stems increasing by 213% to 681%. The yeast two-hybrid experiments demonstrated that Ns14-3-3 5a interacts with NsVP1 (vacuolar H+-pyrophosphatase). This result indicates that Ns14-3-3 5a may respond to salt stress by promoting ionic vacuole compartmentalization in stems and leaves through interactions with NsVP1. In addition, N. sibirica has a high number of stems, allowing it to compartmentalize more ions through its stem and leaf. Sodium chloride (NaCl) induced expression of a jacalin-related mannose-binding lectin (JRL) gene in leaves, roots, and callus cultures of Populus euphratica (salt-resistant poplar). To explore the mechanism of the PeJRL in salinity tolerance, the full length of PeJRL was cloned from P. euphratica and was transformed into Arabidopsis. PeJRL was localized to the cytoplasm in mesophyll cells. Overexpression of PeJRL in Arabidopsis significantly improved the salt tolerance of transgenic plants, in terms of seed germination, root growth, and electrolyte leakage during seedling establishment. Under NaCl stress, transgenic plants retained K+ and limited the accumulation of Na+. PeJRL-transgenic lines increased Na+ extrusion, which was associated with the upward regulation of SOS1, AHA1, and AHA2 genes encoding plasma membrane Na+/proton (H+) antiporter and H+-pumps. The activated H+-ATPases in PeJRL-overexpressed plants restricted the channel-mediated loss of K+ that was activated by NaCl-induced depolarization. Under salt stress, PeJRL–transgenic Arabidopsis maintained reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis by activating the antioxidant enzymes and reducing the production of O2− through downregulation of NADPH oxidases. Of note, the PeJRL-transgenic Arabidopsis repressed abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis, thus reducing the ABA-elicited ROS production and the oxidative damage during the period of salt stress. CDPKs (Ca2+-Dependent Protein Kinases) are very important regulators in plant response to abiotic stress. The molecular regulatory mechanism of CDPKs involved in salt stress tolerance remains unclear, although some CDPKs have been identified in salt-stress signaling. Here, we investigated the function of an Arabidopsis CDPK, CPK12, in salt-stress signaling. The CPK12-RNA interference (RNAi) mutant was much more sensitive to salt stress than the wild-type plant GL1 in terms of seedling growth. Under NaCl treatment, Na+ levels in the roots of CPK12-RNAi plants increased and were higher than levels in GL1 plants. In addition, the level of salt-elicited H2O2 production was higher in CPK12-RNAi mutants than in wild-type GL1 plants after NaCl treatment. We investigated two types of threading dislocations in high Al-composition Al0.55Ga0.45N/AlN multiple quantum well (MQW) structures grown on AlN substrate for electrically injected deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The surface morphology and defects electrical characteristics of the MQW LED structures were examined via conductive atomic force microscopy (CAFM). We found that the disparity between photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) spectra in terms of light emission output and wavelength shift are attributed to the existence of the surface hillocks, especially to the ones that have open-core dislocations. The open-core dislocations form current leakage paths through their defect states and the composition inhomogeneity (i.e., Ga rich) at the dislocation sites are responsible for the light emission at longer wavelengths. The rapid development of mobile intelligence and wearable computing promotes the rise of quantified-self. Users quantify themselves and realize self-tracking and self-cognition through the connection between mobile phone terminals and wearable computing devices. The characteristics of immersive quantified information design in the convergence mode of mobile intelligence and wearable computing attract many users to immerse into it. Based on the stimulus-body-response (S-O-R) model, this paper constructs an influence mechanism model that affects the immersive experience of quantified-self and adopts empirical research methods. This paper analyzes the influence of the information platform and content characteristics (interaction, ease of use, usefulness, entertainment) of the convergence of mobile intelligence and wearable computing on users' immersive experience of quantified-self and the moderating effect of privacy concern and potential affordance on immersive experience and continuous participation. The results show that interaction, ease of use, usefulness, and entertainment all have a significant impact on users' quantified-self immersive experience, and the influence is in the order of usefulness>ease of use>entertainment>interaction. Potential affordance and privacy concerns play a significant role in regulating the state of immersion and continuous participation. The conclusion of this study not only analyzes the influencing factors of users' immersive experience of quantified-self from the characteristics of the convergence of mobile intelligence and wearable computing but also analyzes the relationship between users' immersive experience of quantified-self and continuous participation from the perspective of potential affordance and privacy concerns. It provides opinions and suggestions for the interaction design and user information management of the convergence of mobile intelligence and wearable computing and has practical reference significance for related enterprises to improve user stickiness. Foam materials are widely used in packaging and buildings for thermal insulation, sound absorption, shock absorption, and other functions. They are dominated by petroleum‐based plastics, most of which, however, are not biodegradable nor fire‐proofing, leading to severe plastic pollution and safety concerns. Here, a fire‐proofing, thermally insulating, recyclable 3D graphite‐cellulose nanofiber (G‐CNF) foam fabricated from resource‐abundant graphite and cellulose is reported. A freeze‐drying‐free and scalable ionic crosslinking method is developed to fabricate Cu2+ ionic crosslinked G‐CNF (Cu‐G‐CNF) foam with a low energy consumption and cost. Moreover, the direct foam formation strategy enables local foam manufacturing to fulfil the local demand. The ionic crosslinked G‐CNF foam demonstrates excellent water stability (the foam can maintain mechanical robustness even in wet state and recover after being dried in air without deformation), fire resistance (41.7 kW m−2 vs 214.3 kW m−2 in the peak value of heat release rate) and a low thermal conductivity (0.05 W/(mK)), without compromising the recyclability, degradability, and mechanical performance of the composite foam. Grassland aboveground biomass (AGB) is an important indicator for studying the change in grassland ecological quality and carbon cycle. The rapid development of high-resolution remote sensing and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) provides a new opportunity for accurate estimation of grassland AGB on the plot scale. In this study, the mountain grassland was taken as the research object. Using UAV Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data and multispectral satellite images, the influence of topographic correction methods on AGB estimation was compared and a series of LiDAR metrics and vegetation indices were extracted. On this basis, a comprehensive indicator, the vegetation index-height-intensity model (VHI), was proposed to estimate AGB quickly. The results show that: (1) Among the four topographic correction methods, the Teillet regression has the best effect, and can effectively improve the accuracy of AGB estimation in mountain grassland. The correlation between corrected ratio vegetation index and AGB was the highest (correlation coefficient: 0.682). (2) Among the height and intensity metrics, median height and max intensity yielded the higher accuracy in estimating AGB, with Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 322 g/m2 and 333 g/m2, respectively. (3) The VHI integrated spectrum and LiDAR information, and its accuracy for AGB estimation for mountain grassland, was obviously better than other indicators, with an RMSE of 272 g/m2. We also found that the accuracy of VHI in univariate models was comparable to that of complex multivariate models such as stepwise regression, support vector machine, and random forest. This study provides a new approach for estimating grassland AGB with multi-source data. As a simple and effective indicator, VHI has shown strong application potential for grassland AGB estimating in mountainous areas, and can be further applied to grassland carbon cycle research and fine management. Results: In this study, a total of 10 candidate reference genes were selected from the transcriptome of N. sibirica, and their expression stability in leaves and roots under different treatment conditions (salt, alkali, drought, cold, heat and ABA) was evaluated with the geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, comparative ΔCt and RefFinder programs. The results showed that the expression stability of the candidate reference genes was dependent on the tissue and experimental conditions tested. ACT7 combined with R3H, GAPDH, TUB or His were the most stable reference genes in the salt- or alkali-treated leaves, salt-treated roots and drought-treated roots, respectively; R3H and GAPDH were the most suitable combination for drought-treated leaves, heat-treated root samples and ABA-treated leaves; DIM1 and His maintained stable expression in roots under alkali stress; and TUB combined with R3H was stable in ABA-treated roots. TBCB and GAPDH exhibited stable expression in heat-treated leaves; TBCB, R3H, and ERF3A were stable in cold-treated leaves; and the three most stable reference genes for cold-treated roots were TBCB, ACT11 and DIM1. The reliability of the selected reference genes was further confirmed by evaluating the expression patterns of the NsP5CS gene under the six treatment conditions. Conclusion: This study provides a theoretical reference for N. sibirica gene expression standardization and quantification under various abiotic stress conditions and will help to reveal the molecular mechanisms that confer stress tolerance to N. sibirica. TBCB and GAPDH exhibited stable expression in heat-treated leaves; TBCB, R3H, and ERF3A were stable in cold-treated leaves; and the three most stable reference genes for cold-treated roots were TBCB, ACT11 and DIM1. The reliability of the selected reference genes was further confirmed by evaluating the expression patterns of the NsP5CS gene under the six treatment conditions. Phospholipase Dα (PLDα), which produces signaling molecules phosphatidic acid (PA), has been shown to play a critical role in plants adapting to salt environments. However, it is unclear whether phospholipase Dδ (PLDδ) can mediate the salt response in higher plants. PePLDδ was isolated from salt-resistant Populus euphratica and transferred to Arabidopsis thaliana to testify the salt tolerance of transgenic plants. The NaCl treatment (130 mM) reduced the root growth and whole-plant fresh weight of wild-type (WT) A. thaliana, vector controls (VC) and PePLDδ-overexpressed lines, although a less pronounced effect was observed in transgenic plants. Under salt treatment, PePLDδ-transgenic Arabidopsis exhibited lower electrolyte leakage, malondialdehyde content and H2O2 levels than WT and VC, resulting from the activated antioxidant enzymes and upregulated transcripts of genes encoding superoxide dismutase, ascorbic acid peroxidase and peroxidase. In addition, PePLDδ-overexpressed plants increased the transcription of genes encoding the plasma membrane Na+/H+ antiporter (AtSOS1) and H+-ATPase (AtAHA2), which enabled transgenic plants to proceed with Na+ extrusion and reduce K+ loss under salinity. The capacity to regulate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and K+/Na+ homeostasis was associated with the abundance of specific PA species in plants overexpressing PePLDδ. PePLDδ-transgenic plants retained a typically higher abundance of PA species, 34:2 (16:0–18:2), 34:3 (16:0–18:3), 36:4 (18:2–18:2), 36:5 (18:2–18:3) and 36:6 (18:3–18:3), under control and saline conditions. It is noteworthy that PA species 34:2 (16:0–18:2), 34:3 (16:0–18:3), 36:4 (18:2–18:2) and 36:5 (18:2–18:3) markedly increased in response to NaCl in transgenic plants. Abstract: Geometric moment invariants are widely used in many fields of image analysis and pattern recognition since their first introduction by Hu in 1962. A few years ago, Flusser has proved how to find the independent and complete set of geometric moment invariants corresponding to a given order. On the other hand, the properties of orthogonal moments show that they can be recognized as useful tools for image representation and reconstruction. Therefore, derivation of invariants from orthogonal moments becomes an interesting subject and some results have been reported in literature. In this paper, we propose to use a family of orthogonal moments, called Gaussian–Hermite moments and defined with Hermite polynomials, for deriving their corresponding invariants. The rotation invariants of Gaussian–Hermite moments can be achieved algebraically according to a property of Hermite polynomials. This approach is definitely different from the conventional methods which derive orthogonal moment invariants either by image normalization or by an expression as a linear combination of the invariants of geometric moments. One significant conclusion drawn is that the rotation invariants of Gaussian–Hermite moments have the identical forms to those of geometric moments. This coincidence is also proved mathematically in the appendix of the paper. Moreover, the translation invariants could be easily constructed by translating the coordinate origin to the image centroid. The invariants of Gaussian–Hermite moments both to rotation and to translation are accomplished by the combination of these two kinds of invariants. Their rotational and translational invariance is evaluated by a set of transformed gray-level images. The numeric stabilities of the proposed invariant descriptors are also discussed under both noise-free and noisy conditions. The computational complexity and time for implementing such invariants are analyzed as well. In addition to this, the better performance of the Gaussian–Hermite invariants is experimentally demonstrated by pattern matching in comparison with geometric moment invariants. Based on the Helmholtz decomposition of the transverse shear strain, Brezzi and Fortin in [7] introduced a three-stage algorithm for approximating the Reissner-Mindlin plate model with clamped boundary conditions and established uniform error estimates in the plate thickness. The first and third stages involve approximating two simple Poisson equations and the second stage approximates a perturbed Stokes equation. Instead of using the mixed finite element method which is subject to the ‘infsup’ condition, we consider a least-squares finite element approximation to such a perturbed Stokes equation. By introducing a new independent vector variable and associated div equation, we are able to establish the ellipticity and continuity of the homogeneous least-squares functional in an H1 product norm appropriately weighted by the thickness. This immediately yields optimal discretization error estimates for finite element spaces in this norm which are uniform in the thickness. We show that the resulting algebraic equations can be uniformly well preconditioned by well-known techniques in the thickness. The Reissner-Mindlin model with pure traction boundary condition is also studied. Achieving ecological conservation and governance based on ecosystem services (ESs) can balance regional ecological protection and development, which is of great significance for sustainable development. Existing research has mainly focused on the extraction of priority ecological conservation areas, thereby neglecting to consider the classification and management of ecological engineering areas. To improve regional ecological governance, we combine ESs and dust movement trajectory, using the Beijing-Tianjin Sandstorm Source Control Project (BTSSCP) as the research object to generate watersheds' ecological governance zones. Six ESs were assessed to determine ecological zones. Trajectory simulation of dust movement, using the Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (HYSPLIT) model and potential source contribution function, was used to determined zones affected by dust. By combining these two aspects, five main ecological governance clusters were identified. We found that: (1) the area with low ESs in the northwest of the BTSSCP suffered from severe dust impacts; (2) slight dust-affected zones were mainly distributed in the eastern of the BTSSCP, and in the area, ESs gradually decreased from south to north; (3) ESs in the region was primarily influenced by natural factors and the influencing factors of ESs vary among different zones. These findings will not only contribute to the overall planning and governance of the BTSSCP, but can offer general guidance for the formulation of targeted ecological protection and restoration measures in other areas. Efficient delivery of hydrophilic drugs, nucleic acids, proteins, and any combination thereof is essential for various biomedical applications. Herein, we report a straightforward, yet versatile approach to efficiently encapsulate and deliver various hydrophilic payloads using a pH-responsive silica–metal–organic framework hybrid nanoparticle (SMOF NP) consisting of both silica and zeolitic imidazole framework (ZIF). This unique SMOF NP offers a high loading content and efficiency, excellent stability, and robust intracellular delivery of a variety of payloads, including hydrophilic small molecule drugs (e.g., doxorubicin hydrochloride), nucleic acids (e.g., DNA and mRNA), and genome-editing machineries (e.g., Cas9-sgRNA ribonucleoprotein (RNP), and RNP together with donor DNA (e.g., RNP + ssODN)). The superior drug delivery/gene transfection/genome-editing efficiencies of the SMOF NP are attributed to its pH-controlled release and endosomal escape capabilities due to the proton sponge effect enabled by the imidazole moieties in the SMOF NPs. Moreover, the surface of the SMOF NP can be easily customized (e.g., PEGylation and ligand conjugation) via various functional groups incorporated into the silica component. There is a growing body of evidence that abscisic acid (ABA) and the phytochrome-interacting factor (PIF) family of transcription factors interact in light signaling, the regulation of plant growth development, and adaptation to environmental stimuli. In this study, we investigate the role that PIFs play in the regulation of ABA signaling in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings grown under long-day conditions. We showed that PIFs positively regulate ABA signaling in post-germination seedling growth. We analyzed the DNA-binding sites for PIF3 and PIF5 by DNA-affinity purification sequencing (DAP-seq) genome-wide. The DAP-seq data showed that G-box motif is the direct binding site of PIF3 and PIF5, and a number of ABA responsive genes are potential targets of PIFs, including PYL3 , PYL6 , PYL12 , SnRK2.2 , CPK4 , CPK6 , ABI5 , ABF3 , and KIN1. Background: In adults, the anastomosis between carotid and vertebrobasilar arteries is usually the posterior communicating artery, sometimes the primitive trigeminal artery. In this case, the basilar artery fed the internal carotid artery through the pontine-to-tentorial artery anastomosis after severe stenosis from traumatic carotid dissection.Case Presentation: A 32-year-old female was diagnosed with ischemic stroke caused by traumatic carotid artery dissection. Aspirin (100 mg/day) and clopidogrel (75 mg/day) were prescribed. Digital subtraction angiography performed 6 days after stroke onset showed a dissection in the cervical segment of left internal carotid artery with severe local stenosis, and a collateral pathway from BA to the cavernous segment of internal carotid artery through the lateral pontine and tentorial artery. Without interventional therapy, clinical symptoms improved significantly within 10 days after onset. At 3-month follow-up, left common carotid artery angiography showed the stenosis had been significantly improved with a residual aneurysm. There was no collateral pathway between carotid-vertebrobasilar arteries, and a residual small artery originated from the posterior vertical segment of cavernous internal carotid artery. The small artery was clearly visualized by 3-dimensional rotational angiography and identified the tentorial artery.Conclusion: To the author's knowledge, this is the first report of a collateral pathway between carotid vertebrobasilar arteries through the pontine-to-tentorial artery anastomosis. Meanwhile, tentorial artery origination directly from the cavernous segment of internal carotid artery is rare and easily mistaken for persistent primitive trigeminal artery. 3-dimensional rotational angiography can provide sensitive and accurate diagnostic assessment of the small artery, and may be a useful tool for screening of abnormal small arteries. Plasma membrane proton pumps play a crucial role in maintaining ionic homeostasis in salt-resistant Populus euphratica under saline conditions. High levels of NaCl (200 mM) induced PeHA1 expression in P. euphratica roots and leaves. We isolated a 2022 bp promoter fragment upstream of the translational start of PeHA1 from P. euphratica. The promoter–reporter construct PeHA1-pro :: GUS was transferred to tobacco plants, demonstrating that β-glucuronidase activities increased in root, leaf, and stem tissues under salt stress. DNA affinity purification sequencing revealed that PeWRKY1 protein targeted the PeHA1 gene. We assessed the salt-induced transcriptional response of PeWRKY1 and its interaction with PeHA1 in P. euphratica. PeWRKY1 binding to the PeHA1 W-box in the promoter region was verified by a yeast one-hybrid assay, EMSA, luciferase reporter assay, and virus-induced gene silencing. Transgenic tobacco plants overexpressing PeWRKY1 had improved expression of NtHA4 , which has a cis -acting W-box in the regulatory region, and improved H+ pumping activity in both in vivo and in vitro assays. We conclude that salt stress up-regulated PeHA1 transcription due to the binding of PeWRKY1 to the W-box in the promoter region of PeHA1. Late spontaneous recanalization (SR) of an occluded internal carotid artery (ICA) has been rarely reported and the prognosis of affected patients remains elusive. In the present study, the incidence of late SR of atherosclerotic occlusion of the ICA and associated outcomes were assessed in a single center. A total of 36 patients with ICA occlusion, who underwent carotid artery stenting or vertebral artery stenting in arteries other than the occluded ICA, were prospectively included and followed up for ≥18 months. SR was diagnosed by color Doppler ultrasound imaging. The incidence of late SR, the functional outcome and the incidence of adverse cardiovascular events in these patients were evaluated. During the follow-up, three patients had late SR of the occluded ICA (8.3%). All patients had vascular events prior to the confirmation of late SR of the ICA. Subsequent to SR, the patients were clinically stable with preserved functional ability, based on the Modified Rankin Scale. Of these patients, one suffered from re-occlusion of the recanalized ICA without presenting with any novel significant symptoms. In conclusion, patients with late SR of the ICA appear to have preserved functional ability and favorable clinical outcomes. Immune interventions consisting in repeated injections are broadly used as they are thought to improve the quantity and the quality of the immune response. However, they also raise several questions that remain unanswered, in particular the number of injections to make or the delay to respect between different injections to achieve this goal. Practical and financial considerations add constraints to these questions, especially in the framework of human studies. We specifically focus here on the use of interleukin-7 (IL-7) injections in HIV-infected patients under antiretroviral treatment, but still unable to restore normal levels of CD4+ T lymphocytes. Clinical trials have already shown that repeated cycles of injections of IL-7 could help maintaining CD4+ T lymphocytes levels over the limit of 500 cells/μL, by affecting proliferation and survival of CD4+ T cells. We then aim at answering the question: how to maintain a patients level of CD4+ T lymphocytes by using a minimum number of injections (i.e., optimizing the strategy of injections)? Based on mechanistic models that were previously developed for the dynamics of CD4+ T lymphocytes in this context, we model the process by a piecewise deterministic Markov model. We then address the question by using some recently established theory on impulse control problem in order to develop a numerical tool determining the optimal strategy. Results are obtained on a reduced model, as a proof of concept: the method allows to define an optimal strategy for a given patient. Changed land use patterns are the most direct manifestation of ecological engineering implemented by humans, being among the driving factors for changes in ecosystem services (ESs). However, different ecological engineering governance measures can lead to different changes in land use, resulting in corresponding changes to ESs and ecosystem service value (ESV), yet these changes is the content that needs to be clarified. In this study, four kinds of ESs, namely water yield, soil conservation, carbon storage and water purification, were quantified in part region of the Beijing-Tianjin Sandstorm Source Control Project (BTSSCP). In addition, eight scenarios were simulated according to the land use change caused by engineering management measures, and the ESs and ESV ensuing under these differing scenarios quantified accordingly. The results show that the main land use types in the study area from 2000 to 2020 were cropland and forestland, while during this period land use change mainly consisted of the expansion of grassland (+466.79 km2) and loss of cropland (−2095.27 km2). For different engineering management measures, protective governance will play a greater role in improving ESs than restoration governance. Protecting the existing governance outcomes from degrading can maintain a water yield of 36.85 × 108 m3, soil conservation of 73.72 × 106 t, carbon storage of 89.01 × 106 t, the purified water nitrogen content of 1.21 × 106 t, with the total ESV maintained at 54.237 billion yuan. Moreover, the high-investment counties clearly engage in ecological restoration that provides high ESV. Yet, there are still some counties with high project investment where the gains in ESV are low, such as Luanping county and Pingquan county. Therefore, it should be reasonably distributed based on the existing governance results in the next round of project investment allocation. In the past 20 years, engineering governance measures have significantly improved the ESs in the region. Nevertheless, looking ahead, it remains necessary to strengthen the emphasis on protecting governance outcomes. Stretchable electrical interconnects based on serpentines combined with elastic materials are utilized in various classes of wearable electronics. However, such interconnects are primarily for direct current or low-frequency signals and incompatible with microwave electronics that enable wireless communication. In this paper, design and fabrication procedures are described for stretchable transmission line capable of delivering microwave signals. The stretchable transmission line has twisted-pair design integrated into thin-film serpentine microstructure to minimize electromagnetic interference, such that the line's performance is minimally affected by the environment in close proximity, allowing its use in thin-film bioelectronics, such as the epidermal electronic system. Detailed analysis, simulations, and experimental results show that the stretchable transmission line has negligible changes in performance when stretched and is operable on skin through suppressed radiated emission achieved with the twisted-pair geometry. Furthermore, stretchable microwave low-pass filter and band-stop filter are demonstrated using the twisted-pair structure to show the feasibility of the transmission lines as stretchable passive components. These concepts form the basic elements used in the design of stretchable microwave components, circuits, and subsystems performing important radio frequency functionalities, which can apply to many types of stretchable bioelectronics for radio transmitters and receivers. Poplar species increase expressions of transcription factors to deal with salt environments. We assessed the salt-induced transcriptional responses of heat-shock transcription factor (HSF) and WRKY1 in Populus euphratica , and their roles in salt tolerance. High NaCl (200 mM) induced PeHSF and PeWRKY1 expressions in P. euphratica , with a rapid rise in roots than in leaves. Moreover, the salt-elicited PeHSF reached its peak level 6 h earlier than PeWRKY1 in leaves. PeWRKY1 was down-regulated in salinized P. euphratica when PeHSF was silenced by tobacco rattle virus-based gene silencing. Subcellular assays in onion epidermal cells and Arabidopsis protoplasts revealed that PeHSF and PeWRKY1 were restricted to the nucleus. Transgenic tobacco plants overexpressing PeWRKY1 showed improved salt tolerance in terms of survival rate, root growth, photosynthesis, and ion fluxes. We further isolated an 1182-bp promoter fragment upstream of the translational start of PeWRKY1 from P. euphratica . Promoter sequence analysis revealed that PeWRKY1 harbours four tandem repeats of heat shock element (HSE) in the upstream regulatory region. Yeast one-hybrid assay showed that PeHSF directly binds the cis -acting HSE. To determine whether the HSE cluster was important for salt-induced PeWRKY1 expression, the promoter–reporter construct PeWRKY1–pro :: GUS was transferred to tobacco plants. β-glucuronidase activities increased in root, leaf, and stem tissues under salt stress. Therefore, we conclude that salinity increased PeHSF transcription in P. euphratica , and that PeHSF binds the cis -acting HSE of the PeWRKY1 promoter, thus activating PeWRKY1 expression. Cadmium (Cd2+) pollution occurring in salt-affected soils has become an increasing environmental concern in the world. Fast-growing poplars have been widely utilized for phytoremediation of soil contaminating heavy metals (HMs). However, the woody Cd2+-hyperaccumulator, Populus × canescens, is relatively salt-sensitive and therefore cannot be directly used to remediate HMs from salt-affected soils. The aim of the present study was to testify whether colonization of P. × canescens with ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi, a strategy known to enhance salt tolerance, provides an opportunity for affordable remediation of Cd2+-polluted saline soils. Ectomycorrhization with Paxillus involutus strains facilitated Cd2+ enrichment in P. × canescens upon CdCl2 exposures (50 μM, 30 min to 24 h). The fungus-stimulated Cd2+ in roots was significantly restricted by inhibitors of plasmalemma H+-ATPases and Ca2+-permeable channels (CaPCs), but stimulated by an activator of plasmalemma H+-ATPases. NaCl (100 mM) lowered the transient and steady-state Cd2+ influx in roots and fungal mycelia. Noteworthy, P. involutus colonization partly reverted the salt suppression of Cd2+ uptake in poplar roots. EM fungus colonization upregulated transcription of plasmalemma H+-ATPases (PcHA4, 8, 11) and annexins (PcANN1, 2, 4), which might mediate Cd2+ conductance through CaPCs. EM roots retained relatively highly expressed PcHAs and PcANNs, thus facilitating Cd2+ enrichment under co-occurring stress of cadmium and salinity. Stomatal regulation is crucial to reduce water consumption under drought conditions. Extracellular ATP (eATP) serves as a signaling agent in stomatal regulation; however, it is less known whether the eATP mediation of stomatal aperture is linked to apyrases (APYs), the principal enzymes that control the concentration of eATP. To clarify the role of APYs in stomatal control, PeAPY1 and PeAPY2 were isolated from Populus euphratica and transferred into Arabidopsis. Compared with the wild-type Arabidopsis and loss-of-function mutants (Atapy1 and Atapy2), PeAPY1- and PeAPY2-transgenic plants decreased stomatal aperture under mannitol treatment (200 mM, 2 h) and reduced water loss during air exposure (90 min). The role of apyrase in stomatal regulation resulted from its control in eATP-regulated stomatal movements and increased stomatal sensitivity to ABA. The bi-phasic dose-responses to applied nucleotides, i.e., the low ATP (0.3–1.0 mM)-promoted opening and high ATP (>2.0 mM)-promoted closure, were both restricted by P. euphratica apyrases. It is noteworthy that eATP at a low concentration (0.3 mM) counteracted ABA action in the regulation of stomatal aperture, while overexpression of PeAPY1 or PeAPY2 effectively diminished eATP promotion in opening, and consequently enhanced ABA action in closure. Phytoremediation offers a great potential for affordable remediation of heavy metal (HM)−polluted soil and water. Screening and identifying candidate genes related to HM uptake and transport is prerequisite for improvement of phytoremediation by genetic engineering. Using the cadmium (Cd)−hypersensitive Populus euphratica , an annexin encoding gene facilitating Cd enrichment was identified in this study. With a 12 h exposure to CdCl 2 (50–100 μM), P. euphratica cells down-regulated transcripts of annexin1 (PeANN1). PeANN1 was homologue to Arabidopsis annexin1 (AtANN1) and localized mainly to the plasma membrane (PM) and cytosol. Compared with wild type and Atann1 mutant, PeANN1 overexpression in Arabidopsis resulted in a more pronounced decline in survival rate and root length after a long-term Cd stress (10 d, 50 μM), due to a higher cadmium accumulation in roots. PeANN1 −transgenic roots exhibited enhanced influx conductance of Cd2+ under cadmium shock (30 min, 50 μM) and short-term stress (12 h, 50 μM). Noteworthy, the PeANN1-facilitated Cd2+ influx was significantly inhibited by a calcium-permeable channel (CaPC) inhibitor (GdCl 3) but was promoted by 1 mM H 2 O 2 , indicating that Cd2+ entered root cells via radical-activated CaPCs in the PM. This work aimed at investigating the interactive effects of salt-signaling molecules, i.e., ethylene, extracellular ATP (eATP), H2O2, and cytosolic Ca2+ ([Ca2+]cyt), on the regulation of K+/Na+ homeostasis in Arabidopsisthaliana. The presence of eATP shortened Col-0 hypocotyl length under no-salt conditions. Moreover, eATP decreased relative electrolyte leakage and lengthened root length significantly in salt-treated Col-0 plants but had no obvious effects on the ethylene-insensitive mutants etr1-1 and ein3-1eil1-1. Steady-state ionic flux kinetics showed that exogenous 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC, an ethylene precursor) and eATP-Na2 (an eATP donor) significantly increased Na+ extrusion and suppressed K+ loss during short-term NaCl treatment. Moreover, ACC remarkably raised the fluorescence intensity of salt-elicited H2O2 and cytosolic Ca2+. Our qPCR data revealed that during 12 h of NaCl stress, application of ACC increased the expression of AtSOS1 and AtAHA1, which encode the plasma membrane (PM) Na+/H+ antiporters (SOS1) and H+-ATPase (H+ pumps), respectively. In addition, eATP markedly increased the transcription of AtEIN3, AtEIL1, and AtETR1, and ACC treatment of Col-0 roots under NaCl stress conditions caused upregulation of AtRbohF and AtSOS2/3, which directly contribute to the H2O2 and Ca2+ signaling pathways, respectively. Briefly, ethylene was triggered by eATP, a novel upstream signaling component, which then activated and strengthened the H2O2 and Ca2+ signaling pathways to maintain K+/Na+ homeostasis under salinity.
