Abstract

The original state-dependent fractional stress-dilatancy (FSD) equation for soils is developed based on the critical state lines (CSLs) with linear form. However, experimental evidences showed that the CSLs of soil in the $p^{\prime}$–$q$ and $e$–$p^{\prime}$ planes could be both nonlinear as well due to significant material degradation. This note aims to propose a unified FSD equation for soils with arbitrary types of CSLs. Detailed derivations are provided. To validate the proposed FSD equation, a series of triaxial test results of ballast and rockfill are simulated.

Abstract

Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Models (DDPMs) have gained great attention in adversarial purification. Current diffusion-based works focus on designing effective condition-guided mechanisms while ignoring a fundamental problem, i.e., the original DDPM sampling is intended for stable generation, which may not be the optimal solution for adversarial purification. Inspired by the stability of the Denoising Diffusion Implicit Model (DDIM), we propose an opposite sampling scheme called random sampling. In brief, random sampling will sample from a random noisy space during each diffusion process, while DDPM and DDIM sampling will continuously sample from the adjacent or original noisy space. Thus, random sampling obtains more randomness and achieves stronger robustness against adversarial attacks. Correspondingly, we also introduce a novel mediator conditional guidance to guarantee the consistency of the prediction under the purified image and clean image input. To expand awareness of guided diffusion purification, we conduct a detailed evaluation with different sampling methods and our random sampling achieves an impressive improvement in multiple settings. Leveraging mediator-guided random sampling, we also establish a baseline method named DiffAP, which significantly outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) approaches in performance and defensive stability. Remarkably, under strong attack, our DiffAP even achieves a more than 20% robustness advantage with 10$\times$ sampling acceleration.

Abstract

To address the issue of insufficient grid inertia support caused by the large-scale integration of renewable energy， a synchronous condenser model of a flywheel energy storage system， along with a control scheme， is developed based on permanent magnet variable frequency speed regulation. This model integrates a flywheel energy storage system with permanent magnet variable frequency speed regulation on the rotor of the synchronous condenser. By utilizing the kinetic energy of the flywheel， the inertia power response capability of the synchronous condenser is enhanced without altering its grid connection method or rapid excitation capability. Both the electromagnetic and mechanical models of the permanent magnet speed-regulated motor and the synchronous condenser of the flywheel energy storage system are constructed. Additionally， a dual-channel coupled power output model that includes the synchronous condenser and the frequency converter is established. Based on this， the paper proposes a power control strategy for synchronous condenser frequency regulation of the flywheel energy storage system using permanent magnet variable frequency speed regulation. Simulations under typical application scenarios have verified the feasibility and effectiveness of this strategy.

Abstract

BackgroundThe brain-gut-microbiota axis plays a crucial role in the bidirectional interactions between the brain and the gut. Soluble epoxide hydrolase (coded by the Ephx2 gene) plays an important role in inflammation, which has been implicated in stress-related depression. Ephx2 knock-out (KO) mice exposed to chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) did not show depression-like behaviors, indicating stress resilience. Here we examined whether the brain-gut-microbiota axis influences the resilience in Ephx2 KO mice.MethodsEffects of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from CSDS-susceptible (or control) mice in wild-type (WT) mice and Ephx2 KO mice treated with an antibiotic cocktail (ABX) were investigated. Behavioral, biochemical tests and 16S ribosome RNA analysis were performed.ResultsFMT from CSDS-susceptible mice produced anhedonia-like behavior in ABX-treated WT and Ephx2 KO mice. The 16S ribosome RNA analysis showed that Faecalibaculum rodentium (F. rodentium) may be responsible for the observed anhedonia-like behavior following FMT from CSDS-susceptible mice. Ingestion of F. rodentium for 14 days produced depression- and anhedonia-like behaviors, higher blood levels of interleukin-6, and reduced expression of synaptic proteins in the prefrontal cortex of ABX-treated Ephx2 KO mice. Furthermore, subdiaphragmatic vagotomy blocked the development of these behavioral abnormalities after ingestion of F. rodentium.LimitationsDetailed mechanisms are unclear.ConclusionsThese findings suggest that F. rodentium might contribute to the conversion of resilient Ephx2 KO mice into KO mice with depression-like phenotypes. The brain-gut-microbiota axis via the subdiaphragmatic vagus nerve plays a crucial role in susceptibility and resilience to stress.
