5. Focal shift of silicon microlens in mid-infrared regime

Abstract

In this study, rigorous numerical calculation was utilized to characterize the focal properties of mid-infrared silicon microlens with the size about tens of micrometers. It is found that the focal shift phenomenon also exists in mid-infrared regime, which behaves differently from that of visual and near-infrared wavelength. Focal properties of silicon microlens were also measured experimentally, showing well coherence with simulation results. Our results provide systemic understanding of focal shift in mid-infrared regime, at that wavelength special consideration should be paid in micro-nano optics, especially with the integration between infrared optical system and other devices., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, research article

7. Phenomenological study on correlation between flow harmonics and mean transverse momentum in nuclear collisions

Abstract

To assess the properties of the quark-gluon plasma formed in nuclear collisions, the Pearson correlation coefficient between flow harmonics and mean transverse momentum, $\rho\left(v_{n}^{2},\left[p_{\mathrm{T}}\right]\right)$, reflecting the overlapped geometry of colliding atomic nuclei, is measured. $\rho\left(v_{2}^{2},\left[p_{\mathrm{T}}\right]\right)$ was found to be particularly sensitive to the quadrupole deformation of the nuclei. We study the influence of the nuclear quadrupole deformation on $\rho\left(v_{n}^{2},\left[p_{\mathrm{T}}\right]\right)$ in $\rm{Au+Au}$ and $\rm{U+U}$ collisions at RHIC energy using $\rm{AMPT}$ transport model, and show that the $\rho\left(v_{2}^{2},\left[p_{\mathrm{T}}\right]\right)$ is reduced by the prolate deformation $\beta_2$ and turns to change sign in ultra-central collisions (UCC).

13. Laser Superdiffraction Optical Needle Direct Writing Lithography Method for Single‐Exposure Fabrication of High‐Aspect‐Ratio Microstructures.

Abstract

In this paper, a laser superdiffraction optical needle direct writing lithography method for single‐exposure fabrication of high‐aspect‐ratio microstructures (HARMs) is proposed. The principles of 3/4 circular image focusing and lithography exposure are theoretically analyzed, and the experimental setup is built. Experiments show that the linear interval and focusing accuracy of this method can reach 60 and 0.1 µm, respectively. Compared with the circular image focusing method, this method can determine the direction of defocus through the opening direction of the 3/4 circular spot. In addition, an optical needle with a resolution of 0.308 µm, a depth of focus of 1.836 µm, and an aspect ratio of 5.9538 is achieved by tightly focusing a radially polarized beam modulated by an annular amplitude type modulator with an annular factor of 0.7. Using this optical needle as the direct writing head, the HARM with a line width of 0.22 µm, a depth of 1.76 µm, and an aspect ratio of 8 is obtained experimentally by adjusting the photolithographic process parameters in combination with the focus detection curve. This method has the advantages of high fabrication efficiency, super diffraction resolution and high‐aspect‐ratio, which provides a new research idea for the fabrication of HARMs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MIN WANG, MAYR, G., JIANGYONG ZHANG & Zhonghe Zhou, December 2012. Two new skeletons of the enigmatic, rail-like avian taxon SongziaHou, 1990 (Songziidae) from the early Eocene of China. Alcheringa 36, 487–499. ISSN 0311-5518.We describe two nearly complete articulated skeletons of a new species of Songziidae Hou, 1990 from the early Eocene of Central China. The specimens provide new anatomical information on this poorly known avian taxon. Songziids were considered most closely related to Rallidae in the original description, but as yet no convincing evidence has been put forth concerning their affinities. Phylogenetic analyses based on two previously published data sets combining data from the new fossils did not provide conclusive evidence concerning the affinities of songziids. Whereas one analysis supported rallid affinities, the other resulted in a clade including Songziidae, Messelornithidae, Rallidae and Heliornithidae. Apart from the proportionally much longer legs, the osteology of Songziais, however, more similar to that of the contemporary Messelornithidae than to Rallidae.
