We report an experimental study on the behaviour of femtosecond Gaussian and vortex laser pulses during filamentation in turbulent water. The transverse and longitudinal wandering, intensity, and spectral broadening of the filamentation are evaluated. The results show that the filamentation of femtosecond vortex pulses is less affected by water turbulence than that of Gaussian pulses. Furthermore, the filamentation is less affected when the turbulence is located close or within the filamentation region, in contrast to the self-focusing region. The half-life of 97Zr, used for the calculation of thermal/epithermal neutron flux ratio in k0-NAA, is re-determined using three measurement systems with different pulse processing principles. The result of 16.755±0.013 hours clarifies the discrepancy between two widely used literature values, 16.744±0.011 and 16.90±0.05 hours. Different dead-time correction methods used on various measurement systems are evaluated. Factors influencing precise measurement of relative peak counting rates are discussed in time-series measurements over a dynamic range of 1000-fold radioactive intensities (10 half-lives). In this study, we aim to evaluate the efficiency and safety of traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. A total of eight online databases were searched to collect studies published up to February 2019. Study quality of each included article was evaluated by the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses were conducted based on the Cochrane systematic review method by using the RevMan 5.3 software. Traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage was the main therapy in experimental group. Interventions in control groups include western medicine, oral traditional Chinese medicine, other symptomatic treatment of western medicine, and blank control. Primary outcomes in this study include sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV), motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV), total effective rate, and neuropathic syndrome score. Finally, 31 trials involving 3284 participants were included. The results of systematic reviews and meta-analyses showed that traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage was significantly better compared with the control groups in terms of the total effective rate, SNCV, MNCV, and neuropathic syndrome score. No case of adverse effect was reported. These findings show that traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage may be safer and more effective for the treatment of DPN. However, due to the low methodological quality, further research with randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of higher quality is required to prove its efficacy and better evidence for clinical treatment. We experimentally generate a third harmonic (TH) vector optical field in deep ultraviolet wavelength range using femtosecond vector laser beams. The generated TH beams are characterized by analyzing the Stokes parameters with different input laser energies. The results show that the TH predominantly preserves the vector polarization distribution of the fundamental frequency beam. Moreover, the intensity profile of the TH exhibits a multiple-ring structure. A hybrid polarization pattern is observed in the TH, where the ellipticity is influenced by the input laser energy. Our work provides an effective and straightforward method for producing TH vector optical fields, which may facilitate potential applications such as micro/nanofabrication and super-resolution microscopy.

Purpose: To compare the merits and limitations of hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and methyl violet staining for displaying ghost cells from vitreous or aqueous humor., Methods: A specimen containing ghost cells was adjusted to five different concentrations: (12 x 10(4), 10 x 10(4), 8 x 10(4), 6 x 10(4) and 4 x 10(4) cells/ml) and subjected to smearing and methyl violet and HE staining. The staining results were observed by light microscopy., Results: The ghost cells were readily observed at a cell density of > 8 x 10(4) cells/ml with methyl violet staining, but only a few cells were occasionally seen at lower cell densities. In contrast, ghost cells were seen at all cell densities with HE staining., Conclusion: Methyl violet staining is more rapid and simpler for the identification of ghost cells, but its staining color more readily fades, the slides cannot be stored, and it is only effective at a cell density of > 8 x 10(4) cells/ml. In contrast, HE staining is more time-consuming but it can display cell morphology and distinguish cell components more explicitly and slides can be permanently stored. HE staining has advantages over methyl violet staining in detecting the ghost cells when the concentration is < 8 x 10(4) cells/ml.
