AbstractSubcutaneous (SC) rituximab has demonstrated advantages over intravenous (IV) administration; however, insufficient data exist on its use with cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisone (R-CHOP) in Chinese patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This multicenter, phase II, randomized, controlled study was conducted across China between February 2021 and October 2022. Fifty adult patients with previously untreated CD20-positive DLBCL were randomized to receive one cycle of IV rituximab and seven cycles of SC rituximab (RSC-CHOP; n = 26), or eight cycles of IV rituximab (RIV-CHOP; n = 24), combined with six or eight cycles of CHOP. Geometric mean ratio of trough rituximab serum concentration of SC to that of IV rituximab (Ctrough,SC/Ctrough,IV) at cycle 7 was 1.52 (90% CI: 1.28–1.79), demonstrating non-inferiority of Ctrough,SC. The complete response rate was similar in both treatment arms. SC rituximab is a viable option in Chinese patients with untreated CD20-positive DLBCL, potentially reducing administration burden (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT04660799). Background: Disease progression within 24 months (POD24) significantly impacts overall survival (OS) in patients with follicular lymphoma (FL). This study aimed to develop a robust predictive model, FLIPI-C, using a machine learning approach to identify FL patients at high risk of POD24. Methods: A cohort of 1,938 FL patients (FL1-3a) from seventeen centers nationwide in China was randomly divided into training and internal validation sets (2:1 ratio). XGBoost was utilized to construct the POD24-predicting model, which was internally validated in the validation set and externally validated in the GALLIUM cohort. Key predictors of POD24 included lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) > ULN, low hemoglobin (Hb), elevated beta-2 microglobulin (β2-MG), maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), and lymph node involvement. The FLIPI-C model assigned 2 points to LMR and 1 point to each of the other variables. Results: The FLIPI-C model demonstrated superior accuracy (AUC) for predicting POD24 and 3-year overall survival (OS) in both the internal (AUC POD24: 0.764, OS: 0.700) and external validation cohorts (AUC POD24: 0.703, OS: 0.653), compared to existing models (FLIPI, FLIPI-2, PRIMA-PI, FLEX). Decision curve analysis confirmed the superior net benefits of FLIPI-C. Conclusions: Developed using a machine learning approach, the FLIPI-C model offers superior predictive accuracy and utilizes simple, widely available markers. Non-High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol to High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Ratio (NHHR) is a significant indicator of atherosclerosis. However, its association with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) remains unclear. This study aims to explore the relationship between NHHR and the prevalence of DKD among the U.S. adults using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 1999 to 2020. Participants were selected based on the stringent inclusion and exclusion criteria. We utilized single-factor analysis, multivariate logistic regression, and smooth curve fitting to investigate the relationship between NHHR and DKD. Our study included 8,329 diabetic individuals, who were categorized into DKD and non-DKD groups based on the presence or absence of kidney damage. A significant difference in NHHR was observed between these groups. After adjusting for potential confounders, we found that NHHR was positively associated with the prevalence of DKD. Specifically, each one-unit increase in NHHR corresponded to a 6% rise in the prevalence of DKD, with this association remaining significant across stratified NHHR values. Threshold effect analysis revealed an inflection point at an NHHR of 1.75, beyond this point, each unit increase in NHHR was associated with a 7% increase in the prevalence of DKD. Subgroup analysis confirmed the robustness of these findings. Background: The aging global population is increasing the attention to cognitive decline in older individuals. Objective: This study sought to examine the potential link between the neutrophil percentage-to-albumin ratio (NPAR) and cognitive function. Methods: We analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011–2014 using multivariate logistic regression and smooth curve fitting, to investigate the correlation between NPAR and cognitive performance. Restricted cubic spline analysis assessed the linear relationship with high-risk cognitive dysfunction, while piecewise linear regression identified thresholds. Subgroup analyses confirmed the consistency and reliability of our findings. Results: Our study included data from 2759 individuals aged >60 years. NPAR showed a significant correlation with Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease (CERAD) word learning score, CERAD delayed recall score, total z-score and a high risk of cognitive dysfunction. Furthermore, there were statistically significant trends in the changes in CERAD word learning, digit symbol substitution test, and CERAD delayed recall scores as the NPAR quartile increased, these trends were inverted U-shaped. When the NPAR exceeded 14.57, there was a positive association with the likelihood of a high risk of cognitive impairment. The link between NPAR and cognitive performance was notably stronger in individuals with moderate body mass index and those aged 73–80 years. With the rapid advancements in nutrition and dietary management, infant formulas for special medical purposes (IFSMPs) have been developed to cater to the unique nutraceutical requirements of infants with specific medical conditions or physiological features. However, there are various challenges in effectively preserving and maximizing the health benefits of the specific nutraceuticals incorporated in IFSMPs. This review provides an overview of the nutritional compositions of various IFSMPs and highlights the challenges associated with the effective supplementation of specific nutraceuticals for infants. In addition, it emphasizes the promising potential of emulsion delivery systems, which possess both encapsulation and delivery features, to significantly improve the solubility, stability, oral acceptance, and bioavailability (BA) of nutraceutical bioactives. Based on this information, this work proposes detailed strategies for designing and developing model IFSMP emulsions to enhance the BA of specially required nutraceuticals. Key areas covered include emulsion stabilization, selective release mechanisms, and effective absorption of nutraceuticals. By following these proposals, researchers and industry professionals can design and optimize emulsion‐based IFSMPs with enhanced health benefits. This review not only outlines the developmental states of IFSMP formulations but also identifies future research directions aimed at improving the physiological health benefits of IFSMPs. Obesity is a common public health issue worldwide, and its negative impact on lung function has garnered widespread attention. This study sought to investigate the possible association between a new obesity metric, the weight-adjusted waist index (WWI), and lung functions, providing a basis for the monitoring and protection of lung functions. We conducted a cross-sectional evaluation, analyzing data from adults in the U.S. gathered through the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2007 to 2012. To explore the correlation between WWIs and lung functions, we utilized a multivariate logistic regression model with appropriate weighting to ensure accuracy. Smooth curve fitting also helped to confirm the linear nature of this relationship. Subgroup analyses were conducted to confirm the uniformity and dependability of the results. Our study included data from 13,805 adults in the United States. Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that, in the fully adjusted model, higher WWIs were negatively correlated with forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1), FEV1/FVC, peak expiratory flow rate (PEF), and forced expiratory flow rate (FEF) 25%-75% (β = -0.63; 95% confidence interval [CI] [-0.71, -0.55]; β = -0.55; 95% CI [-0.62, -0.48]; β = -0.02; 95% CI [-0.03, -0.01]; β = -1.44; 95% CI [-1.65, -1.23]; β = -0.52; 95% CI [-0.65, -0.39], respectively). Additionally, when analyzing the WWI as a categorical variable, a significant downward trend in the FVC, FEV1, PEF, and FEF 25%-75% was observed from Q2 to Q4 as the WWI increased (trend P < 0.05). Subgroup analysis showed stronger associations between WWI and lung functions, particularly among younger, non-Hispanic white, male participants, and current smokers. The application of probiotics in functional foods has gained significant interest due to their various beneficial effects to human when consumed in adequate amounts. However, the low survivability of probiotics subjected to adverse environmental conditions during processing, storage and gastrointestinal passage limited their commercial applications. Double emulsion microbial encapsulation is a promising approach to provide probiotic living cells with a full protection to resist adverse environmental conditions. Based on numerous cases of double emulsions applied for probiotic encapsulation, this report reviews various factors influencing the encapsulation yield and viability of probiotics, including emulsification methods, emulsifier selection, effect of probiotics, and modification of emulsification technique, also the targeted release mechanisms of these double emulsions triggered by various manners. This information can be useful to optimize the formulation and emulsification technique of double emulsion in order to improve the use efficacy and beneficial effects of probiotics in different commercial products. Peripheral nerve injury has seriously affected patient’s health and life. Schwann cells play an important role in peripheral nerve regeneration. However, the effect of the current tissue engineered scaffolds for promoting Schwann cells growth is still not as good as that of autologous graft. In this study, new developed three-dimensional gellan gum/starch (GG/ST) scaffolds with various printing gap for Schwann cells growth were prepared by 3D printing technology. Various physiochemical characterizations of the printed scaffolds were performed including morphology, rheological behavior, swelling ratio, and degradation behavior. The cytotoxicity and biocompatibility of the scaffolds were evaluated using L929 fibroblasts and RSC96 Schwann cells, respectively. The results displayed that the GG/ST scaffold exhibited a porous network structure. The cross-sectional pore density of the hydrogel had a tendency to increase with the ascending printing gap. The swelling rate and degradation rate of the hydrogel gradually increased and eventually reached an equilibrium state. The rheological test results showed that the scaffolds had good printability. MTT cytotoxicity test and CCK-8 cell proliferation test displayed that the scaffold was nontoxic, and Schwann cells could grow well on the scaffold after 5 days of culture, whereas the number of cells on the scaffold with the printing gap of 3 mm was the largest. These results indicated that the GG/ST scaffold prepared by 3D printing technology may have a potential application in peripheral nerve regeneration.
