With the continuing progress in space exploration, a new and perplexing condition related to spaceflight ocular syndrome has emerged in the past four decades. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has named this condition “spaceflight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome” (SANS). This article gives an overview of the current research about SANS and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) by analyzing the existing publications on PubMed and CNKI and reports from NASA about SANS, summarizing the potential pathogenesis of SANS and physical interventions for treating SANS, and discussing the feasibility of treating SANS with TCM. Due to the unique characteristics of the space environment, it is infeasible to conduct large-scale human studies of SANS. SANS may be the result of the interaction of multiple factors, including inflammation and fluid displacement in the optic nerve sheath and cerebrospinal fluid. We should pay attention to SANS. Visual function is not only related to the health of astronauts but also closely related to space operations. TCM has antioxidative stress and antiapoptotic effects and is widely used for optic nerve diseases. TCM has great potential to prevent SANS.

Yinshan Mountains stands on the southern edge of the Inner Mongolia Plateau, which stretches 1 200 km from east to west and 50 to 100 km from north to south. The rich and varied topographic environment of the Yinshan Mountains has created a variety of vegetation floras, which also makes the species of medicinal plant resources in this area unevenly distributed. Therefore, studying the spatial distribution difference of medicinal plant resources among various banners, counties, and districts in the Yinshan area is of great significance to formulate the protection policy and promote the industry development of medicinal plant. This study is based on the fourth national survey of traditional Chinese medicine resources in Inner Mongolia, regarding the results of the third national survey of traditional Chinese medicine resources. The species of medicinal plant resources in the Yinshan area around 31 banners, counties and districts were counted in detail. Then, using exploratory spatial data analysis(ESDA), trend surface analysis, spatial autocorrelation, geographical detector and other geostatistical analysis methods to analyze the differences in the spatial distribution of medicinal plant resources of the Yinshan area in Inner Mongolia. After discussing and analyzing the experimental results to account for the reasons for the overall trend of change and the degree of aggregation, the author further put forward relevant constructive suggestions. The results show that the areas with the most abundant and concentrated distribution of medicinal plant resources in the Yinshan area are located in Guyang county, Shiguai District of Baotou city, Tutou right banner, and Tuoketuo county; the higher richness and concentrated distribution of medicinal plant resources is in Wulate front banner, Wulate middle banner, Wulate back banner; areas with relatively low abundance and concentrated distribution of medicinal plant resources located in Qingshan district of Baotou city, Saihan district and Yuquan district of Hohhot city; areas with the lowest abundance and concentrated distribution of medicinal plant resources are located in Xincheng district and Huimin district of Hohhot city. It can be concluded that the horizontal distribution difference of multiple ecological factors, the special wetland environment of the river, the vertical difference of elevation, the farmland and other factors have an important influence on the richness of the medicinal plant resources species.

Viral reservoirs of HIV-1 are a major obstacle for curing AIDS. The novel animal models that can be directly infected with HIV-1 will contribute to develop effective strategies for eradicating infections. Here, we inoculated 4 northern pig-tailed macaques (NPM) with the HIV-1 strain HIV-1NL4.3 and monitored the infection for approximately 3 years (150 weeks). The HIV-1-infected NPMs showed transient viremia for about 10 weeks after infection. However, cell-associated proviral DNA and viral RNA persisted in the peripheral blood and lymphoid organs for about 3 years. Moreover, replication-competent HIV-1 could be successfully recovered from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) during long-term infection. The numbers of resting CD4+ T cells in HIV-1 infected NPMs harboring proviruses fell within a range of 2- to 3-log10 per million cells, and these proviruses could be reactivated both ex vivo and in vivo in response to co-stimulation with the latency-reversing agents JQ1 and prostratin. Our results suggested that NPMs can be infected with HIV-1 and a long-term viral reservoir was formed in NPMs, which might serve as a potential model for HIV-1 reservoir research.

An investigation of the copolymerization of allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) with methyl acrylate (MA) was performed in the presence of benzyl imidazole-1-carbodithioate (BICDT) on the thermal initiation condition. Results showed that the process has good characteristics of living free radical polymerization, i.e. the molecular weight of the obtained polymer increases linearly with monomer conversion, molecular weight distribution is very narrow, and a linear relationship between ln([M]0/[M]) and polymerization time is found. The copolymer structure containing epoxy groups was demonstrated from the 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectrum. It was found that the content of AGE in the copolymer increases with the increase in monomer conversion and molar faction of the AGE in the monomer feed. However, the polymerization could slow down when the fraction of AGE increases in the monomer feed. Taking advantage of living polymerization character, functional block copolymers PSt-b-P (MA-co-AGE) were prepared in the presence of PSt RAFT agent.

NiAl/Al2O3 composite were synthesized by thermite reaction of nickel oxide and aluminum powder mixtures. The phase, the microstructure of the composite, as well as the thermite reaction mechanism, were investigated by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) combined with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The experimental results show that the thermite reaction leads to the interpenetrating network structure of NiAl/Al2O3 at 1223K for 60 min and the chemical reaction apparent activation energy is Eap=166.960±13.496 kJ·mol−1 in the NiO/Al system.

The structural evolution of nanostructured ?-Ni-28Fe alloy (n-Ni-Fe) (grain size d~30?nm), synthesized by the mechno-chemical method, was investigated by using the internal friction technique combined with differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in the temperature range from 300?K to 670?K. An internal friction peak with typical characteristics of the first-order phase transition was observed in the vicinity of 620?K, which corresponds to a broad exothermic process revealed by using DSC. These results can be explained as the structural changes from the disordering to the ordering transition in the n-Ni-Fe sample.
