14. The Growth Rate, Immune Status, Duodenal Development, and Cecal Microbial Diversity of 24-Day-Old Offspring of SD Rats Received Bacillus subtilis-Cu or CuSO4 During Pregnancy and Lactation Periods.

Abstract

A total of 108 pregnant and lactation SD rats were divided into six groups, daily and orally dosed with Bacillus subtilis-copper (CuBs) and CuSO4 (CuS) both at three doses equivalent to 1.5 mg (Cu deficiency), 3 mg, and 6 mg Cu per kg diet, and the effects of the Cu source and dosage on the growth rate, immune status, duodenal development, and cecal microbial diversity were examined on 24-day-old offspring rats. The six offspring rats from each group were randomly selected for measuring the body weight gain and taking blood samples, and three rats were sacrificed for taking duodenum and cecum content samples. We found CuBs increased the body weight gain, development of duodenal villi, and survival rate of the offspring; increased the IgM content and lysozyme activity in serum; reduced the intestinal permeability; and increased the abundances of Lachnospiraceae, Ruminococcaceae, and Intestinibacter in the cecal content, when compared with CuS. We also found that Cu deficiency showed detrimental effects on the body weight gain and length, the survival rate of the offspring, and the immune indices in serum, as well as the increased intestinal permeability. 18. Effects of zinc and Bacillus subtilison the reproductive performance, egg quality, nutrient digestion, intestinal morphology and serum antioxidant capacity of geese breeders

Abstract

The effects of zinc (Zn) and Bacillus subtilis(B. subtilis) on reproductive performance, egg quality, nutrient digestion, intestine morphology and antioxidant capacity were explored in geese breeders. Geese breeders (n = 120, 46-wk of age) were randomly assigned into 6 groups with 4 replicates of 5 birds each (1 male and 4 female). Breeders were fed diets with two levels of B. subtilis(2.5 × 109and 5 × 109CFU/kg) crossed with three levels of Zn (25, 45 and 65 mg/kg) for duration of 10-weeks. The results showed that the egg laying rate (P< 0.05), fertility rate (P< 0.01), hatchability rate (P< 0.05), yolk color (P< 0.05) and the retentions of crude protein (P< 0.05), ether extract (P< 0.05) and phosphorus of geese breeders were improved by dietary supplementation of 5 × 109CFU/kg B. subtilisand 25 mg or 45 mg/kg Zn. The serum T-SOD (P< 0.05) was increased by 45 mg/kg Zn supplementation. The serum T-AOC (P< 0.05) and retention of Zn (P< 0.05) were increased by 5 × 109CFU/kg B. subtilissupplementation. The birds fed with 5 × 109CFU/kg B. subtilisand 25 mg or 45 mg/kg Zn showed improved villus length (P< 0.01) and villus length/ crypt depth (P< 0.01) in both the jejunum and ileum. In conclusion, the combination of B. subtilisand Zn may have synergistic effects on these parameters, and dietary inclusion of 5 × 109CFU/kg B. subtilisand 45 mg/kg Zn is recommended for improving the reproductive performance of geese breeders.
