2. Coexistence of near-EF flat band and van Hove singularity in a two-phase superconductor

Abstract

In quantum many-body systems, particularly, the ones with large near-EF density states, like flat bands or van Hove singularity (VHS), electron correlations often give rise to rich phase diagrams with multiple coexisting/competing orders occurring at similar energy scales. The recently discovered locally noncentrosymmetric heavy fermion superconductor CeRh2As2 has stimulated extensive attention due to its unusual H-T phase diagram, consisting of two-phase superconductivity, antiferromagnetic order, and possible quadrupole-density wave orders. However, despite its great importance, the near-EF electronic structure remains experimentally elusive. Here, we provide this key information by combining soft X-ray and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements and atom-resolved DFT+U calculations. With bulk-sensitive soft X-rays, we reveal quasi-2D hole- and 3D electron- pockets with a pronounced nesting feature. Most importantly, we observe a symmetry-protected fourfold VHS coexisting with the Ce 4f flat bands near the EF, which, to the best of our knowledge, has never been reported before. Such a rare coexistence is expected to lead to a large density of states at the zone edge, enhancement in electron correlations, and a large upper critical field of the odd-parity superconducting phase. Uniquely, it will also result in a new type of f-VHS hybridization that alters the order and fine electronic structure of the symmetry-protected VHS and flat bands. These peculiarities offer important dimensions for understanding the reported rich phase diagram and are discussed as an origin of superconductivity with two phases. Our findings not only provide key insights into the nature of multiple phases in CeRh$_2$As$_2$, but also open up new prospects for exploring the novelties of many-body systems with f-VHS hybridization., Comment: A version of the original submission (submitted in July)

Abstract

We report the observation for the p$_{z}$ electron band and the band inversion in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{x}$Se$_{1-x}$ with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Furthermore, we found that excess Fe (y>0) inhibits the topological band inversion in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{x}$Se$_{1-x}$, which explains the absence of Majorana zero modes in previous reports for Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{x}$Se$_{1-x}$ with excess Fe. Based on our analysis of different amounts of Te doping and excess Fe, we propose a delicate topological phase in this material. Thanks to this delicate phase, one may be able to tune the topological transition via applying lattice strain or carrier doping.

Abstract

Cloth changing person re-identification(Re-ID) can work under more complicated scenarios with higher security than normal Re-ID and biometric techniques and is therefore extremely valuable in applications. Meanwhile, higher flexibility in appearance always leads to more similar-looking confusing images, which is the weakness of the widely used retrieval methods. In this work, we shed light on how to handle these similar images. Specifically, we propose a novel retrieval-verification framework. Given an image, the retrieval module can search for similar images quickly. Our proposed verification network will then compare the input image and the candidate images by contrasting those local details and give a similarity score. An innovative ranking strategy is also introduced to take a good balance between retrieval and verification results. Comprehensive experiments are conducted to show the effectiveness of our framework and its capability in improving the state-of-the-art methods remarkably on both synthetic and realistic datasets., Comment: Accepted by Pattern Recognition

15. Relationship between Non-Pathogenic Bacteria from Eggs of Healthy Laying Ducks and Flora Structure in the Genital Tract and Cecum

Abstract

Objective: The aim was to investigate whether a bacterial flora exists in the eggs of healthy laying ducks (Ma breed), and if yes, whether the bacterial flora could be associated with those in the genital tract and cecum. Methods: Healthy laying ducks were dissected to collect genital tract and cecum tissues, as well as soft- and hard-shelled duck eggs, and cultivable bacteria were counted by plate count method, and the diversity and correlation of uncultured bacterial flora were analyzed by MiSeq high-throughput sequencing. Results: The decreasing order of the total bacterial counts in the samples was cecum > genital tract > hard-shelled egg > soft-shelled egg. The bacterial gene sequences belonged to 56 phyla and 1 319 genera. The abundance and species evenness of bacteria in the cecum and genital tract were higher. The dominant genera included Bacteroides, Megamonas and Campylobacter. Species abundance and dominant concentration were higher in soft- and hard-shell eggs. Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter accounted for 19.01% and 10.01% of the total abundance, respectively. Gene function prediction showed that all samples had high abundance of metabolic and glycolytic functions. The gram-positive and anaerobic phenotypes in the cecum and genital tract were abundant. The pathogenicity and oxidative stress of bacteria in soft and hard shell eggs were significant. The dominant bacterial genera in the four samples were overlapped, and the overlap rates of egg content with the cecum and genital tract were 13.96% and 24.35%, respectively. In addition, the phylogenetic tree analysis showed that the genera in all samples were closely related to each other and shared homology with the significantly contributing genus Bacteroides in the cecum. Conclusion: Duck eggs are not formed in a sterile environment, the bacteria residing in the cecum and reproductive tract of healthy laying ducks can infect different egg structures during its formation and become a part of the internal flora in duck eggs. These results can provide a reference for further research on the characteristics and control of non-pathogenic bacteria in egg contents.

Abstract

n‐propanol is an important pharmaceutical and pesticide intermediate. To produce n‐propanol by electrochemical reduction of CO2 is a promising way, but is largely restricted by the very low selectivity and activity. How to promote the coupling of *C1 and *C2 intermediates to form the *C3 intermediate for n‐propanol formation is challenging. Here, we propose the construction of bicontinuous structure of Cu2O/Cu electrocatalyst, which consists of ultra‐small Cu2O nanodomains, Cu nanodomains and large amounts of grain boundaries between Cu2O and Cu nanodomains. The n‐propanol current density is as high as 101.6 mA cm−2 at the applied potential of −1.1 V vs. reversible hydrogen electrode in flow cell, with the Faradaic efficiency up to 12.1 %. Moreover, the catalyst keeps relatively stable during electrochemical CO2 reduction process. Experimental studies and theoretical calculations reveal that the bicontinuous structure of Cu2O/Cu can facilitate the *CO formation, *CO‐*CO coupling and *CO‐*OCCO coupling for the final generation of n‐propanol.
