6. Size Effect on Order-Disorder Transition Kinetics of FePt Nanoparticles

Abstract

The kinetics of order-disorder transition of FePt nanoparticles during high temperature annealing is theoretically investigated. A model is developed to address the influence of large surface to volume ratio of nanoparticles on both the thermodynamic and kinetic aspect of the ordering process; specifically, the nucleation and growth of L10 ordered domain within disordered nanoparticles. The size- and shape-dependence of transition kinetics are quantitatively addressed by a revised Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation that included corrections for deviations caused by the domination of surface nucleation in nanoscale systems and the non-negligible size of the ordered nuclei. Calculation results based on the model suggested that smaller nanoparticles are kinetically more active but thermodynamically less transformable. The major obstacle in obtaining completely ordered nanoparticles is the elimination of antiphase boundaries. The results also quantitatively confirmed the existence of a size-limit in ordering, beyond which, inducing order-disorder transitions through annealing is impossible. 10. Effects of governor vessel electroacupuncture on oxidative stress in rats with post-stroke limb spasm based on the glutathione antioxidant system.

Abstract

To evaluate the mechanism of governor vessel electroacupuncture in rats with post-stroke limb spasm by observing the changes of glutathione antioxidant system-related factors. Methods A total of 60 SD rats were randomly divided into the normal group (n=12), sham operation group (n=12) and modeling group (n=36). The middle cerebral artery obstruction model was prepared by thread approach method in the modeling group, and 24 rats with successful modeling were randomly divided into the model group and the electroacupuncture group, with 12 rats in each group. At the 3rd day after modeling, the electroacupuncture group was treated with electroacupuncture at three acupoints of the governor vessel, namely, "Dazhui" (GV14), "Jizhong" (GV6) and " Houhui" (anteromedial of the transverse process of the sixth lumbar vertebra), for 30 min each time, once a day for 7 days. The neurological function of rats was assessed by Zea Longa neurological deficit score. The muscle tension of rats was detected by modified Ashworth dystonia rating and electrophysiological tracing method. The brain tissue water content was measured by the dry-wet weight method. The volume of cerebral infarction of rats was measured by the TTC staining method. The contents of glutathione(GSH), catalase(CAT), oxidized glutathione(GSSG), superoxide dismutase(SOD), and malondialdehyde(MDA) in the cortex of rats were detected by colorimetry. The protein and mRNA expressions of glutathione reductase(GR), glutamate cysteine ligase(GCL)C, GCLM, and glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4) in the cortex of rats were measured by Western blotting and real-time PCR, respectively. Results Compared with rats in the normal and sham operation groups, the Zea Longa neurological deficit score, modified Ashworth dystonia rating, the volume of cerebral infarction, brain tissue water content, and GSSG and MDA contents in cortex were increased in the model group, the tension signal value and the proteins and mRNA expressions of GR, GCLC, GCLM, and GPX4 in cortex were decreased, and the contents of GSH, CAT, and SOD in cortex were decreased(P<0.05). Compared with the model group, the Zea Longa neurological deficit score, modified Ashworth dystonia rating, the volume of cerebral infarction, brain tissue water content, and GSSG and MDA contents in cortex were decreased in the electroacupuncture group, the tension signal value and the proteins and mRNA expressions of GR, GCLC, GCLM, and GPX4 in cortex were increased, and the contents of GSH, CAT, and SOD in cortex were increased(P<0.05). Conclusion Governor vessel electroacupuncture can improve the severity of post-stroke limb spasm in rats, and its mechanism may be related to the regulation of glutathione antioxidant system in cerebral cortex. 11. Aging-Aware LTPO DTCO for Large-Scale Integrated Circuit-Driven Flexible Intelligent Sensing System

Abstract

The near-sensor paradigm is widely used in the artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) and other emerging applications that require high-performance digital circuits to perform embedded control and signal-processing calculations. This work presents a low-temperature polycrystalline silicon and oxide (LTPO) CMOS-based large-scale integrated circuit (IC) design approach to the flexible sensing and processing system via a unified high-accuracy compact model for LTPO thin-film transistors (TFTs), realizing circuit simulations and reliability evaluations. Grounded in multiple-trapping and releasing theory, the compact model is developed for both low-temperature poly-Si (LTPS) and indium-gallium-zinc oxide (IGZO) TFTs, with an error of much less than $100~\mu \text{V}$ for surface potential. This study delves into the significant aging effect of the positive bias temperature instabilities (PBTI) in IGZO TFTs using calibrated multivariable kinetic equations. The findings suggest that this approach has the potential to enhance the compact integration of sensing and processing systems through the use of advanced LTPO technology ( $\sim 6~\mu \text{m}$ ). Furthermore, LTPO-CMOS-TFTs are used to implement digital circuits, achieving energy efficiency that is $3\times $ higher than the state-of-the-art flexible processors. Compared with widely used pseudo-CMOS logic, complementary logic achieves the improvements of energy consumption and speed by the factors of 122.7 and 3.19, respectively.

27. Template-Guided Assembly of Silk Fibroin on Cellulose Nanofibers for Robust Nanostructures with Ultrafast Water Transport

Abstract

The construction of multilength scaled hierarchical nanostructures from diverse natural components is critical in the progress toward all-natural nanocomposites with structural robustness and versatile added functionalities. Here, we report a spontaneous formation of peculiar “shish kebab” nanostructures with the periodic arrangement of silk fibroin domains along straight segments of cellulose nanofibers. We suggest that the formation of these shish kebab nanostructures is facilitated by the preferential organization of heterogeneous (β-sheets and amorphous silk) domains along the cellulose nanofiber driven by modulated axial distribution of crystalline planes, hydrogen bonding, and hydrophobic interactions as suggested by all-atom molecular dynamic simulations. Such shish kebab nanostructures enable the ultrathin membrane to possess open, transparent, mechanically robust interlocked networks with high mechanical performance with up to 30 GPa in stiffness and 260 MPa in strength. These nanoporous robust membranes allow for the extremely high water flux, up to 3.5 × 104L h–1m–2bar–1combined with high rejection rate for various organic molecules, capability of capturing heavy metal ions and their further reduction into metal nanoparticles for added SERS detection capability and catalytic functionalities.

Abstract

Abstract: Silver vanadium oxide (SVO, Ag0.33V2O5) was synthesized in solid-state reactions from silver nitrite (AgNO3) and the sol–gel prepared vanadyl citrate (VO(C6H6O7)). The formation mechanism of Ag0.33V2O5 was elucidated by thermal gravimetric analysis (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) methods. The formation of Ag0.33V2O5 went through two step decomposition and combination processes. The morphology and the crystallinity of the calcination products were largely temperature dependent. The electrochemical performance of Ag0.33V2O5 cathode material was superior to many other silver vanadium oxides, which were attributed to their nanosized particles and the good structural reversibility upon cycling.
