16. Effects of tourmaline on growth of three kinds of microorganisms

Abstract

Tourmaline is a kind of widespread minerals and has been used in many fields of society. Owing to the special electric properties, tourmaline can destroy the hydrogen bond between water molecules. The growth of microorganism may be affected with addition of tourmaline; therefore the effects of tourmaline on three different kinds of microorganisms were studied using microcalorimetric method. The kinetic parameters of growth process were obtained through the thermogenic curves. The results show that high concentration tourmaline inhibited the growth of prokaryotic cells (the growth rate constant of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus decreased 68.77 and 35.25% at tourmaline concentration of 160 g/L), while promoted eukaryotic cell (the growth rate constant of Candida albicans increased 40.73% at tourmaline concentration of 160 g/L). However, the low concentration tourmaline had complex effects on growth of the studied microorganisms.Key words: Microcalorimetric, water cluster, growth rate, inhibitory ratio.

23. Screening of Aureobasidium pullulans OF-01 and its application in tobacco flavor.

Abstract

Using discarded tobacco leaves as raw materials, through aroma-bacterial screening and aroma components extracting, tobacco endogenous derived flavor was prepared and comparison was made on chemical components and sensory with tobacco leaf extract. Result indicated that: 1) 11 pure aroma-bacteria and 2 pure aroma-yeast were screened from 65 aroma-bacteria and 17 aroma-yeast. An Aureobasidium pullulans OF-01 was gotten by the style character evaluation eventually, and used for tobacco leaf flavor preparation; 2) A tobacco derived flavor was prepared by OF-01 strains through fermenting extracting, and concentrating. By comparison of the tobacco water extract, acids (586.18%), phenols (235.04%), and the alcoholes aldehydes (308.12%) in tobacco derived flavor promote greatly, and the quantities of scholar ketone, 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, and benzaldehyde incense increased over 1000%; 3) The tobacco derived flavor could increase armor, smooth smoke, reduce irritation, hide offensive and improve the effects of cigarette smoking. 25. Negative Capacitance in BaTiO3/BiFeO3Bilayer Capacitors

Abstract

Negative capacitances provide an approach to reduce heat generations in field-effect transistors during the switch processes, which contributes to further miniaturization of the conventional integrated circuits. Although there are many studies about negative capacitances using ferroelectric materials, the direct observation of stable ferroelectric negative capacitances has rarely been reported. Here, we put forward a dc bias assistant model in bilayer capacitors, where one ferroelectric layer with large dielectric constant and the other ferroelectric layer with small dielectric constant are needed. Negative capacitances can be obtained when external dc bias electric fields are larger than a critical value. Based on the model, BaTiO3/BiFeO3bilayer capacitors are chosen as study objects, and negative capacitances are observed directly. Additionally, the upward self-polarization effect in the ferroelectric layer reduces the critical electric field, which may provide a method for realizing zero and/or small dc bias assistant negative capacitances.
