Introduction: Studies in recent years have shown that high uric acid causes harm to the human body, which has become a serious public health problem. Elevated serum uric acid has been shown to be associated with obesity, but the relationship between BMI and uric acid (UA) remains controversial. Although the association between BMI and UA has been well studied, the effect of phosphorus levels in vivo on this association remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the relationship between BMI and serum uric acid and the effect of phosphorus on the relationship between the two. Research design and methods: The present study analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) continuous 2007–2018 cycle. We included 10786 participants aged 20 years and over. Multivariable linear regression was performed to assess the association between BMI and serum uric acid. phosphorus was stratified into low phosphorus (<3.3 mg/dl), middle phosphorus (3.3–3.9 mg/dl) and high phosphorus (>3.9 mg/dl). Correction of the effect of phosphorus was assessed by testing the interaction between BMI and UA in multivariate linear regression. Results: In this cross-sectional study, we found that BMI was positively associated with UA in the female population but not significantly in the male population or in the total population. In multiple regression analysis, UA was 0.51 higher in the highest female BMI group than in the lowest group (p = 0.0001). The relationship between BMI and UA differed significantly by gender under the influence of phosphorus, with men and women in Model II having a greater elevation of UA in men than in women within most groups. (BMI >30, phosphorus >3.9 mg/dl, β:0.83 95% CI: 0.43, 1.23 vs β: 0.79 95% CI: 0.30, 1.29). In addition, phosphorus significantly altered the positive association between BMI and UA in most models. Conclusion: Our results indicate significant associations between BMI and uric acid in women, with higher BMI values likely to be associated with a higher risk of hyperuricemia, suggesting that uric acid levels in obese people should be closely monitored in clinical practice. Introduction: Although the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and vitamin C has been well studied, the effects of dietary potassium intake on this relationship are still unclear. Thus, this study aimed to determine the effects of dietary potassium intake on the association between vitamin C and NAFLD. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional learn about with 9443 contributors the usage of 2007–2018 NHANES data. The variety and widespread of coronavirus in natural reservoir animals is likely to cause epidemics via interspecific transmission, which has attracted much attention due to frequent coronavirus epidemics in recent decades. Birds are natural reservoir of various viruses, but the existence of coronaviruses in wild birds in central China has been barely studied. Some bird coronaviruses belong to the genus of Deltacoronavirus. To explore the diversity of bird deltacoronaviruses in central China, we tested faecal samples from 415 wild birds in Hunan Province, China. By RT‐PCR detection, we identified eight samples positive for deltacoronaviruses which were all from common magpies, and in four of them, we successfully amplified complete deltacoronavirus genomes distinct from currently known deltacoronavirus, indicating four novel deltacoronavirus stains (HNU1‐1, HNU1‐2, HNU2 and HNU3). Comparative analysis on the four genomic sequences showed that these novel magpie deltacoronaviruses shared three different S genes among which the S genes of HNU1‐1 and HNU1‐2 showed 93.8% amino acid (aa) identity to that of thrush coronavirus HKU12, HNU2 S showed 71.9% aa identity to that of White‐eye coronavirus HKU16, and HNU3 S showed 72.4% aa identity to that of sparrow coronavirus HKU17. Recombination analysis showed that frequent recombination events of the S genes occurred among these deltacoronavirus strains. Two novel putative cleavage sites separating the non‐structural proteins in the HNU coronaviruses were found. Bayesian phylogeographic analysis showed that the south coast of China might be a potential origin of bird deltacoronaviruses existing in inland China. In summary, these results suggest that common magpie in China carries diverse deltacoronaviruses with novel genomic features, indicating an important source of environmental coronaviruses closed to human communities, which may provide key information for prevention and control of future coronavirus epidemics. The present study was performed to investigate the effect of resveratrol ( trans-3,4′,5-trihydroxystilbene) present as a natural phytoalexin in grapes, peanuts, and red wine on oral squamous cancer cell lines, SCC-VII, SCC-25, and YD-38. MTS assay and flow cytometry, respectively, were used for the analysis of inhibition of cell proliferation and apoptosis. Western blot analysis was performed to examine the effect of resveratrol on the expression of proteins associated with cell cycle regulation. The results revealed a concentration- and time-dependent inhibition of proliferation in all the three tested cell lines on treatment with resveratrol. The IC of resveratrol for SCC-VII, SCC-25, and YD-38 cell lines was found to be 0.5, 0.7, and 1.0 μg/ml, respectively, after 48-h treatment. Examination of the cell cycle analysis showed that resveratrol treatment induced cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase and enhanced the expression of phospho-cdc2 (Tyr 15), cyclin A2, and cyclin B1 in the oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells. It also caused a marked increase in the percentage of apoptotic cells as revealed by the fluorescence-activated cell sorting analysis. Thus, resveratrol exhibits inhibitory effect on the proliferation of OSCC oral cancer cells through the induction of apoptosis and G2/M phase cell cycle arrest. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Professor YANG Jun 's clinical experience of acupuncture and moxibustion for oculomotor paralysis is summarized. Professor YANG Jun pays attention to disease differentiation and syndrome differentiation in the treatment of this disease. According to the characteristics of oculomotor paralysis, "early diagnosis and seeking treatment from the source" is advocated. According to the etiology and pathogenesis, professor YANG divides oculomotor paralysis into three types: the syndrome of wind-evil attacking collaterals, the syndrome of spleen-stomach weakness and the syndrome of qi -deficiency and blood-stasis. As such, the acupoints are selected according to syndrome differentiation, and several different acupuncture methods (pricking needling at eyelids, penetrating needling and lifting eyelids and contralateral- balance needling on the healthy side) are adopted to improve the symptoms of oculomotor paralysis. It is also suggested to use the combination of scalp acupuncture and electroacupuncture to achieve the best dose-effect state. Moreover, local stimulation around the eyes is important to achieve the effects of " qi reaching affected area".

Objective: To compare the temporomandibular joint space and condylar position on transcranial projections between the patients with anterior disc displacement (ADD) and the healthy controls. To investigate the diagnostic value of the condylar position for the ADD patients., Methods: 120 joints of 120 ADD patients and 30 joints of healthy adults, who were taken transcranial projections, were included in this study. The transcranial projections were scanned with precise scanning apparatus and saved as joint photographic group image. The joint spaces were measured with the software of Auto CAD. Two different quantitative methods of joint space measurement, ZHANG Zhen-kang's method and Kamelchuk's method, were used based on the transcranial projections. The ln(P/A) values were calculated (P:width of the posterior joint space; A: width of the anterior joint space). Concentric position of the condyle was defined if ln(P/A) value was between -0.25 and +0.25. If ln(P/A) was larger than +0.25, the condylar position was defined as anteriorly eccentric. Posteriorly eccentric position was indicated when ln(P/A) value was lower than -0.25. The results were compared and software SPSS 12.0 was used for statistical analysis., Results: The results of the two linear measurement methods demonstrated that the superior and posterior joint spaces of the ADD patients were narrower than those of the healthy controls significantly (P < 0.05), while the anterior joint spaces of the ADD patients had no significant differences with those of the controls (P > 0.05). In addition, there were significant differences in ln(P/A) values of joint spaces between the patients with ADD patients and the controls (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: Posterior position of the condyle could be a sign of existence of ADD, but ADD could not be diagnosed only by the posterior condyle position showed on the transcranial projections because of the variation of the condylar position.

Objective: To evaluate the application of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the detection of dental root fractures and to analyse the demographic profile of these fractures., Methods: The study group comprised 398 teeth that were examined by CBCT for determining whether they had a root fracture. Patient characteristics were recorded, and the location, fractured roots, fracture types and three-dimensional images of the related skeletal structures were analysed. Two experienced oral radiologists independently analysed each case and reached a consensus, and the diagnosis was graded in one of the following three categories: fracture definitely present (FDP), fracture probably present (FPP) and no visible fracture (NVF)., Results: Among these teeth, 155 (39.0%) were diagnosed as FDP, 14 (3.5%) as FPP and 229 (57.5%) as NVF in the consensus reading. During follow-up, all teeth diagnosed as FDP and 4 of the 14 teeth diagnosed as FPP were intra-operatively demonstrated to be fractured. In FDP cases, 60.0% of the patients were aged from 50 to 69 years. In total, 107 FDP teeth were non-endodontically treated, and the remaining were endodontically treated with (n = 16) or without (n = 32) crown placement. The maxillary and mandibular molars were most frequently affected (81.9%). The fractured roots were mostly palatal (65.7%) in maxillary molars and mesial (84.2%) in mandibular molars. The fractures were characterised as vertical (n = 84), horizontal (n = 34), oblique (n = 5) and complicated (n = 32) fractures., Conclusion: The application of CBCT is valuable for the diagnosis of root fracture.

Objective: To investigate the condyle position in the fossa and obtain the reference ranges of Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) space of 50 healthy adults (100 joints) by using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)., Methods: Fifty healthy adults (100 joints) were selected and undergone CBCT examination in the intercuspal position. Five different methods of joint space measurement were used based on the joint sagittal middle layer of CBCT images and the results were analysed statistically., Results: The reference ranges of TMJ space of CBCT images by using five measurement methods were obtained. The results of the linear measurement methods demonstrated that there were no significant differences between anterior and posterior spaces (Z0.05),no significant differences between the two side joint spaces including anterior, posterior and superior spaces (t0.05 ),and also no significant differences in ln (P/A) values between two side joints (t0.05)., Conclusion: All the results of the five measurement methods showed that the condyle was located in the center of the fossa with a variation in the healthy adults in intercuspal position.The CBCT image of the sagittal middle layer of the joint could show the joint space accurately and has an important value in the research related to the changes of TMJ space.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical use of cone beam dental CT in the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis., Methods: Forty-eight cases diagnosed as temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis (OA) and disk displacement with or without reduction accompanied by OA changes were included, and a total of 96 joints received both trans-pharyngeal radiography and cone beam CT (CBCT) examination. The detectable rate for OA radiographic changes was compared between the two examinations., Results: The radiographic appearances of osteoarthrotic condyle included six types: loss of the lamina dura density of condyle surface (type I), destructive and erosive bone changes (type II), flattening of the articular surface (type III), sclerosis (type IV), osteophytes (type V), and false cyst change (type VI). The detectable ratio of CBCT for all types of osteoarthrosis was 65.63%, 37.50%, 27.08%, 31.25%, 28.13%, 1.04%, respectively, and the detectable ratio of trans-pharyngeal radiographs was 52.08%, 19.79%, 32.29%, 23.96%, 12.50%, 2.08% respectively. Intraobserver and interobserver reproducibility for type I and type II was in good agreement with both the trans-pharyngeal radiographs and CBCT, Kappa > 0.60., Conclusions: CBCT had higher detectable rates for pathological changes of osteoarthrosis, and could show the exact location, size, and the types of pathological changes. CBCT may be used as a measure in evaluating disease severity and progression, and in clinical trials of disease treatment.

Objective: Osteoarthritic lesions of Temporomandibular joint(TMJ) were assessed by dental cone beam computed tomography(CBCT), and compared with conventional radiographic technology., Methods: The study was conducted retrospectively on 511 joints of 350 patients, who had undergone dental CBCT, panoramic radiography, transcranial projection and transpharygeal projection of TMJ. The results were compared and the accuracy with CBCT was assessed. The types of osseous condylar abnormalities were observed., Results: (1) The occurrence of osteoarthritis in male and female were 59.04% and 69.66%, respectively, with no significant difference. (2) Compared with CBCT, panoramic radiography, transpharygeal projection examination showed no significant difference, with the accuracy being 90.64% and 94.10%, respectively; However, transcranial projection indicated a significant difference in comparison with CBCT and the accuracy was 86.97%. (3) A higher occurrence of osteoarthritic lesions of the condyle was sclerosis (39.86%). Bony proliferation or osteophyte (28.18%) and ill-defined cortical bone (18.90%) were followed., Conclusion: Cone beam CT, which reproduces multiple images including axial, coronal and sagittal planes of the joint, provides a complete radiographic investigation of the bony components of the TMJ. It is one of the best choices of imaging diagnosis of TMJ osteoarthritis. Panoramic radiography and transpharygeal projection examination are also good choices for showing osseous condylar abnormalities in the clinic, but transcranial projection examination is inferior.

Objective: To investigate the frequency, sex differences and location of impacted maxillary canine in orthodontic patients., Methods: Two hundred and fifteen patients (77 males and 138 females) with maxillary canine impaction were included in the study. The experimental group was gathered from the Department of Orthodontics, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology. CT scan images were evaluated. Chi-square test was used in the analysis., Results: The prevalence of maxillary canine impaction among Chinese orthodontic patients was 2.05%. The ratio between male and female was 1.8:1 and the ratio between buccal and palatal location was 2.1:1. Surgical exposure and orthodontic alignment had been predominant in such conditions. There was significant deference in the treatment between palatally impacted canine and buccally impacted one. More palatally impacted canines were extracted than buccally impacted ones., Conclusions: There was significant difference in the treatment of maxillary canine impaction. More buccally impacted canines were found in Chinese patients, especially in female patients.

Sigma and pi polarized absorption spectra of Tm:YVO4 crystal have been measured at room temperature. Considering the difference of the sigma and pi polarized absorption spectra and the changing of the refractive index with different wavelengths, we calculate the intensity parameters of Tm3+ in crystal YVO4 which are omega 2 = 1.9416 x 10(-20) (cm2), omega 4 = 0.1568 x 10(-20) (cm2), omega 6 = 0.3963 x 10(-20) (cm2) by Judd-Ofelt theory. The spectra characteristic parameters, such as radiative transition rates, luminescence branching ratio, total radiative lifetime and integral cross-section are also calculated. The results show that the spontaneous rate of the transition 1D2-->3F4 is much higher than that of the transition 1D2 to other levels.
