Charge-changing cross section ($\sigma_{\text{cc}}$) measurements via the transmission method have made important progress recently aiming to determine the charge radii of exotic nuclei. In this work, we report a new $\sigma_{\text{cc}}$ measurement of 304(9) MeV/nucleon $^{28}$Si on carbon at the second Radioactive Ion Beam Line in Lanzhou (RIBLL2) and describe the data analysis procedure in detail. This procedure is essential to evaluate the systematic uncertainty in the transmission method. The determined $\sigma_{\mathrm{cc}}$ of 1125(11) mb is found to be consistent with the existing data at similar energies. Based on luminosity contributions, we develop a spectroscopic modelling method to derive atmospheric parameters of component stars in binary systems. The method is designed for those spectra of binaries which show double-lined features due to the radial velocities differences between the component stars. We first derive the orbital parameters and the stellar radii by solving the light and radial velocity curves. Then the luminosity contributions in different phases can be calculated. The synthesised double-lined spectra model is constructed by superposing theoretical single-star spectra according to the luminosity contributions. Finally, we derive the atmospheric parameters of each component star by the model fitting method. For multi-epoch double-lined spectra observed by the Large sky Area Multi-Object Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Medium Resolution Survey ($R \sim 7500$), our method gives robust results for detached eclipsing binary systems observed in different orbital phases. We developed a convolutional neural network (CNN) model to distinguish the double-lined spectroscopic binaries (SB2s) from others based on single exposure medium-resolution spectra ($R\sim 7,500$). The training set consists of a large set of mock spectra of single stars and binaries synthesized based on the MIST stellar evolutionary model and ATLAS9 atmospheric model. Our model reaches a novel theoretic false positive rate by adding a proper penalty on the negative sample (e.g., 0.12\% and 0.16\% for the blue/red arm when the penalty parameter $\Lambda=16$). Tests show that the performance is as expected and favors FGK-type Main-sequence binaries with high mass ratio ($q \geq 0.7$) and large radial velocity separation ($\Delta v \geq 50\,\mathrm{km\,s^{-1}}$). Although the real false positive rate can not be estimated reliably, validating on eclipsing binaries identified from Kepler light curves indicates that our model predicts low binary probabilities at eclipsing phases (0, 0.5, and 1.0) as expected. The color-magnitude diagram also helps illustrate its feasibility and capability of identifying FGK MS binaries from spectra. We conclude that this model is reasonably reliable and can provide an automatic approach to identify SB2s with period $\lesssim 10$ days. This work yields a catalog of binary probabilities for over 5 million spectra of 1 million sources from the LAMOST medium-resolution survey (MRS), and a catalog of 2198 SB2 candidates whose physical properties will be analyzed in our following-up paper. Based on Kepler data, we present the results of a search for white-light flares on 1049 close binaries. We identify 234 flare binaries, on which 6818 flares are detected. We compare the flare-binary fraction in different binary morphologies ("detachedness"). The result shows that the fractions in over-contact and ellipsoidal binaries are approximately 10-20 percent lower than those in detached and semi-detached systems. We calculate the binary flares activity level (AL) of all the flare binaries, and discuss its variations along the orbital period (P_orb) and rotation period (P_rot, calculated for only detached binaries). We find that AL increases with decreasing P_orb or P_rot up to the critical values at P_orb near 3 days or P_rot near 1.5 days, thereafter, the AL starts decreasing no matter how fast the stars rotate. We examine the flaring rate as a function of orbital phase in 2 eclipsing binaries on which a large number of flares are detected. It appears that there is no correlation between flaring rate and orbital phase in these 2 binaries. In contrast, when we examine the function with 203 flares on 20 non-eclipse ellipsoidal binaries, bimodal distribution of amplitude weighted flare numbers shows up at orbital phase 0.25 and 0.75. Such variation could be larger than what is expected from the cross-section modification.

In this paper, a grid of the binary evolution models are calculated for the study of blue straggler (BS) population in intermediate age ($\log Age$=7.85-8.95) star clusters. The BS formation via mass transfer and merging is studied systematically using our models. Both Case A and B close binary evolutionary tracks are calculated in a large range of parameters. The results show that BSs formed via Case B are generally bluer and even more luminous than those produced by Case A. Furthermore, the larger range in orbital separations of Case B models provide a probability of producing more BSs than Case A. Based on the grid of models, several Monte-Carlo simulations of BS populations in the clusters in the age range are carried out. The results show that BSs formed via different channels populate different areas in color magnitude diagram(CMD). The locations of BSs in CMD for a number of clusters are compared to our simulations as well. In order to investigate the influence of mass transfer efficiency in the models and simulations, a set of models are also calculated by implementing a constant mass transfer efficiency, $\beta$=0.5 during Roche lobe overflow (Case A binary evolution excluded). The result shows BSs can be formed via mass transfer at any given age in both cases. However, the distributions of the BS populations on CMD are different., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables

We report the results of a time-series CCD photometric survey of variable stars in the field of the open cluster NGC 2126. In about one square degree field covering the cluster, a total number of 21 variable candidates are detected during this survey, of which 16 are newly found. The periods, classifications and spectral types of 14 newly discovered variables are discussed, which consist of six eclipsing binaries systems, three pulsating variable stars, three long period variables, one RS CVn star, and one W UMa or $\delta$ Scuti star. In addition, there are two variable candidates, the properties of which cannot be determined in this paper. By a method based on fitting spectral energy distributions(SEDs) of stars with theoretical ones, the membership probabilities and the fundamental parameters of this cluster are determined. As a result, five variables are probably members of NGC 2126. The fundamental parameters of the this cluster are determined as: the metallicity to be 0.008 $Z_\odot$, the age $\log(t)$= 8.95, the distance modulus $(m-M)_{0}$= 10.34 and the reddening value $E(B-V)$=0.55 mag., Comment: 12 pages, accepted for publication in RAA
