ATP plays a crucial role in cell energy supply, so the quantification of intracellular ATP levels is particularly important for understanding many physio-pathological processes. The intracellular quantification of this non-electroactive molecule can be realized using aptamer-modified nanoelectrodes, but is hindered by the limited quantity of modification and electroactive tags on the nanosized electrodes. Herein, we developed a simple but effective electrochemical signal amplification strategy for intracellular ATP detection, which replaces the regular ATP aptamer-linked ferrocene monomer with a polymer, thus greatly magnifying the amounts of electrochemical reporters linked to one chain of the aptamer and enhancing the signals. This ferrocene polymer–ATP aptamer was further immobilized onto Au nanowire electrodes (SiC@C@Au NWEs) to achieve accurate quantification of intracellular ATP in single cells, presenting high electrochemical signal output and high specificity. This work not only provides a powerful tool for quantifying intracellular ATP but also offers a simple and versatile strategy for electrochemical signal amplification in the detection of broader non-electroactive molecules involved in different kinds of intracellular physiological processes. An underwater shooting method with a novel barrel structure featuring spiral grooves is designed by opening multiple spiral grooves on the gun barrel's tail inner wall, and the combustion-gas flows are guided to create multiple gas jets that are sprayed into the barrel to form a gas curtain for water drainage. A three-dimensional unsteady multiphase mathematical model was created, and the correctness of the numerical model established was verified by comparing it with the experimental results of underwater gun gas curtain drainage visualization. On this basis, the influence of different spiral grooves on the evolution process of gas jet and liquid and the drainage effects were simulated. The results indicate that the phase change happens in close proximity to the gas–liquid boundary; nonetheless, the volume percentage of vapor generated by phase change during gas–liquid interaction is less than 1%. The more grooves there are, the greater the maximum pressure at each moment inside the fully filled circular tube; the temperature at the front end of the circular tube becomes higher. When the number of grooves is increased from 4 to 6, the drainage completion time is shortened by 29.7%, the amount of gas in the circular barrel increased by 5.2%, and the drainage rate is significantly increased. However, as the amount of grooves increased from 6 to 8, the gas volume fraction and drainage rate in the tube only increased slightly. Airborne nanoplastics can enter alveolar cells and trigger intracellular oxidative stress primarily. Herein, taking advantage of the high electrochemical resolution of SiC@Pt nanoelectrodes, we achieved the quantitative discrimination of the major ROS/RNS within A549 cells, disclosed the sources of their precursors, and observed that the NO (RNS precursor) level significantly increased, whereas O2˙− (ROS precursor) remained relatively stable during the nanoplastics exposure. This establishes that iNOS or mitochondrion-targeted treatment may be a preventive or therapeutic strategy for nanoplastic-induced lung injury. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After successful pilot projects, Zhejiang Province, China, decided to systematically scale-up health promoting schools (HPS) over the entire province of 47 million. This study describes the interventions and self-reported changes in attitudes, knowledge and behavior during the first phase of scaling-up. Group interviews were conducted with a sample of 191 participants (school administrators, teachers, students and parents) from nine schools with a total of [image omitted]15200 students. Grounded theory guided data analysis. Schools implemented all HPS components (school health policy, physical school environment, psychosocial school environment, health education, health services, nutrition services, counseling/mental health, physical exercise, health promotion for staff and outreach to families and communities), adapted to local circumstances. Participants reported a range of changes in attitudes (paying more attention to health, attaining better "psychological quality" and confidence, forming friendships between teachers and students and feeling more relaxed), knowledge and concepts (increasing knowledge about various health issues, developing a broader concept of health and gaining better understanding about the HPS concept) and behavior (actively participating, increasing physical activity, improving sanitary habits, reducing or quitting smoking, eating more nutritiously, increasing safety behavior, sustaining less injuries and improving parent-child communication). This qualitative study shows the feasibility and efficacy of implementing HPS in Zhejiang Province, China. (Contains 4 figures.)
