Abstract

Considering the harsh environment of the port, automated straddle carriers, characterized by their large size, tall frame, and high center of gravity, may experience instability during steering and transportation due to inaccurate state estimation. Thus, this paper explores state estimation techniques for automated straddle carriers utilizing smart sensors which are capable of data measurement and processing. First, using the steering principles and lateral characteristics of automated straddle carriers, a dynamic linear model is established based on Newton's second law of motion. Then, in order to enhance the reliability and flexibility of state estimation, a distributed smart sensor network structure is introduced. In addition, considering the challenge of unknown-but-bounded noise and the precision demands of the considered automated straddle carrier, a modified distributed set-membership estimation algorithm is proposed and is derived sufficient conditions for the existence of the estimation set for the considered automated straddle carriers. 26. Ellipsoidal Set-Membership Filtering for Discrete-Time Linear Time-Varying Systems

Abstract

This article studies set-membership estimation for discrete-time linear time-varying systems with unknown-but-bounded uncertainties. An ellipsoidal set-membership filtering method with a new estimator is proposed. Based on the S-procedure, the proposed set-membership filtering is formulated as an optimization problem in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Moreover, it is shown that the optimal ellipsoids estimated by two existing set-membership filtering approaches are equivalent to the optimal estimation results obtained by two special cases of the proposed method, respectively. The proposed estimator has more design parameters which can be effectively optimized to improve the estimation accuracy. Simulation results are given to show the performance of the proposed method.

45. A Longitudinal Content Analysis on the Media Images of Left-behind Children in China

Abstract

Based on the media framing theory, this study adopted the content analysis to examine the media images of the left-behind children in rural Mainland China. The study sampled the news reports in the national party newspaper Guangming Daily, the local party newspaper Sichuan Daily, and the metropolis newspaper Southern Metropolis Daily from 2006 to 2015. The study analyzed the numbers and themes of the reports, the categories of the represented images, the represented ways of caring. It detected the media frames about left-behind children and subtle differences among the three newspapers. The study found that the three newspapers mainly focused on the theme of caring for left-behind children. The most frequently represented images were the favor-receiving left-behind children. The reasons why Chinese rural children were left behind were rarely mentioned and analyzed.

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the state estimation problem for an automatic guided vehicle (AGV). A novel set-membership filtering (SMF) scheme is presented to solve the state estimation problem in the trajectory tracking process of the AGV under the unknown-but-bounded (UBB) process and measurement noises. Different from some existing traditional filtering methods, such as Kalman filtering method and H ∞ filtering method, the proposed SMF scheme is developed to provide state estimation sets rather than state estimation points for the system states to effectively deal with UBB noises and reduce the requirement of the sensor precision. Then, in order to obtain the state estimation ellipsoids containing the true states, a set-membership estimation algorithm is designed based on the AGV physical model and S-procedure technique. Finally, comparison examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed SMF scheme for an AGV state estimation problem in the present of the UBB noises. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
