The Omicron variant is currently ravaging the world, raising serious concern globally. Monitoring genomic variations and determining their influence on biological features are critical for tracing its ongoing transmission and facilitating effective measures. Based on large-scale sequences from different continents, this study found that: (i) The genetic diversity of Omicron is much lower than that of the Delta variant. Still, eight deletions (Del 1–8) and 1 insertion, as well as 130 SNPs, were detected on the Omicron genomes, with two deletions (Del 3 and 4) and 38 SNPs commonly detected on all continents and exhibiting high-occurring frequencies. (ii) Four groups of tightly linked SNPs (linkage I–IV) were detected, among which linkage I, containing 38 SNPs, with 6 located in the RBD, increased its occurring frequency remarkably over time. (iii) The third codons of the Omicron shouldered the most mutation pressures, while the second codons presented the least flexibility. (iv) Four major mutants with amino acid substitutions in the RBD were detected, and further structural analysis suggested that the substitutions did not alter the viral receptor binding ability greatly. It was inferred that though the Omicron genome harbored great changes in antigenicity and remarkable ability to evade immunity, it was immune-pressure selected. The wearable human-computer interaction system based on biometric identification technology could bring a more natural and relaxed interactive experience. Two new complexes, [Co(aci)2(H2O)2]·2H2O (1) and [Zn(aci)2(H2O)2]·2H2O (2) (aciH = 4-oxo-5-methylpyrazine-2-carboxylic acid) were obtained by the reaction of corresponding metal salts and aciH, and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-Ray diffraction, and magnetic susceptibility measurement. X-Ray analysis demonstrates that two compounds both crystallize in triclinic system, space groupP-1, and contain a mononuclear complex and two lattice water molecules. Modulus-based synchronous multisplitting iteration methods were recently proposed for solving linear complementarity problems. We give a much simpler approach to prove the convergence of these iteration methods when the system matrix is an H + -matrix. Moreover, this idea can also be applied to prove the convergence of two-step modulus-based synchronous multisplitting iteration methods, which avoids the construction of the irreducible system matrix and the introduction of the infinite norm. Abstract: The AlCrFeCuCo high-entropy alloys were prepared by the laser cladding method. The microstructure and corrosion resistance property of AlCrFeCuCo high-entropy alloy were researched by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and electrochemical workstation. The results show that, under the rapid solidification small microstructure gained, the morphology of AlCrFeCuCo high entropy alloy is simple, the phase mainly compose of FCC and BCC; elements segregated in the alloys; the alloy shows excellent corrosion resistance, along with the increase of the scanning speed, alloy corrosion resistance performance shows a enhancement in the first and then weakened trend. The corrosion resistance performance of AlCrFeCuCo high-entropy alloys in 1mol/L NaCl solution is better than in 0.5mol/L H2SO4 solution. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• Etched mesocarbon microbeads (MCMBs) are used as anodes for sodium-ion batteries. • The etched MCMBs are prepared by carbonizing mixed green MCMBs and NaOH. • The etched MCMBs have interlayer space of 356 pm and more mesopores. • The etched MCMBs anode shows improved rate capability and cyclability. • Modified structure benefit the sodium transfer in etched MCMBs. NaOH-etched mesocarbon microbeads (MCMBs) are prepared by carbonizing a mixture of green MCMBs and NaOH at 650 °C, and are used as the anode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Comparing with pristine MCMBs, NaOH-etched MCMBs have more surface fissures, more bigger pores with a mean diameter of ~5.0 nm, and graphite-like crystallites with wider interlayer space (356 pm). The etched MCMBs anode displays better rate capability and cyclability. It keeps a capacity of >218 mAh g−1 at a current of 15 mA g−1 with a coulombic efficiency of >97% during 60 cycles. Using a combination of first-principles calculations, special quasi-random structures and quasi-harmonic Debye model methods, we investigated the structural properties, magnetic moments, phase stability, electronic structure, mechanical properties and thermodynamic properties of fcc and bcc FeNi 1-x Cr x disordered alloys. The results show that the volume per atom and lattice constant of fcc and bcc FeNi 1-x Cr x alloys exhibit different nonlinear decreasing trends with increasing Cr content, which can be understood by the coupling effect of the composition-dependent antiferromagnetic interaction and atomic volume. Only fcc FeNi 1-x Cr x alloys with x less than 0.25 are relatively easy to synthesize, while FeNi 1-x Cr x alloys with other compositions all have a strong tendency to phase separation. The DOS of fcc and bcc FeNi 1-x Cr x alloys gradually moves to the shallower energy level with the increase of Cr content, which makes TDOS narrow. As the Cr content increases, the hardness and rigidity of fcc FeNi 1-x Cr x (x = 0, 0.125, and 0.25) alloys gradually increase, while the toughness, ductility and compression resistance gradually weaken. Increasing Cr content is beneficial to reduce the volumetric thermal expansion coefficient of fcc FeNi 1-x Cr x (x = 0, 0.125, and 0.25) alloys, which also can decrease Debye temperature and weaken interaction between atoms. • A modified sulfate diffusion model in concrete is developed. • Sulfate attack has a significant influence on mechanical properties of concrete. • A real constitutive model which relates to sulfate ion content is proposed. • Derivation of the real constitutive model is based on a parallel system of layered concrete. Sulfate attack is one of the most common factors responsible for the performance deterioration of concrete exposed to aggressive environment. The transport of sulfate in concrete is a gradual process causing a gradient sulfate attack in concrete. Nominal stress-strain relationship which is directly based on the whole cross-sectional area is not applicable in practical engineering because of its dependence on geometrical dimensions. In this paper, a method is developed to obtain a real constitutive model for sulfate-attacked concrete. To investigate the transport behavior of sulfate ion in concrete, 16 cubic specimens were immersed in 10% sodium sulfate solution for eight immersion durations. Based on the development of sulfate ion content distribution, a modified diffusion model was developed to simulate the transport of sulfate ion in concrete. To clarify the effects of sulfate attack on mechanical properties of concrete, 24 prism specimens were immersed in 10% sodium sulfate solution, and another 24 specimens were immersed in pure water as control group to compensate the influence of further hydration. Based on the sulfate ion content distribution and nominal stress-strain curve for concrete in different immersion durations, real stress-strain curves of concrete with different sulfate ion contents were obtained by an innovative method. After analyzing the effects of sulfate ion content on the mechanical properties of concrete, a real constitutive model was proposed, which can well predict the structural performance of sulfate-attacked concrete members. The formation of segregated structure in conductive polymer composites reveals great superiority in gaining improved electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance. Nevertheless, the restricted processing method and seriously deteriorated mechanical properties hamper the practical applications of such segregated composites. Herein, we demonstrate simultaneously improved EMI shielding and mechanical performance in a segregated carbon nanotube/polypropylene (CNT/PP) composite, via a facile and eco-friendly method composed by pre-coating, melt mixing, and injection molding. The segregated CNT/PP composite containing only 3.5 wt% CNT exhibits an average EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 32 dB, which shows 130% and 30% improvements in comparison to 14 dB for the CNT/PP composite prepared by conventionally injection molding and 25 dB for the CNT/PP composite prepared by compression molding. Our segregated CNT/PP composite also attains a high elongation at break (EB) of 78%, about 4 and 17 times higher than 16% for the conventionally injection molded one and 4% for the compression molded one, with comparable tensile strength and Young's modulus. This work provides a feasible approach to guide the scaled preparation of segregated composites with satisfactory EMI shielding and mechanical performance. Objective To evaluate the accuracy and safety of freehand pedicle screw placement in surgical correction for thoracolumbar kyphosis caused by ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Methods We retrospectively reviewed 266 consecutive patients with AS who underwent osteotomy for kyphosis correction with freehand screw insertion from January 1998 to April 2015 at our institution. A total of 2314 pedicle screws in 158 patients with AS with postoperative computed tomography scans were included in the study. Postoperative computed tomography was performed to classify accuracy of screws, using the established Gertbein classification (grade 0: no perforation, grade 1: perforation <2 mm, grade 2: perforation between 2 and 4 mm, and grade 3: perforation >4 mm). Patients were divided into 2 groups according to coronal Cobb angle: group A ( n = 21, Cobb angle ≥10°), group B ( n = 137, Cobb angle <10°). Results Among the 2314 pedicle screws, 2168 pedicle screw placements were categorized as grade 0, 71 were grade 1, 51 were grade 2, and 24 were grade 3. Breaches occurred more frequently in L1–S1 than the thoracic spine (7.1% and 5.4%, respectively). T5 (25.0%) and S1 (17.7%) experienced the greatest breach rate, whereas T8, L1, and L3 had the lowest breach rate. The breach rate of group A was greater than that of group B (7.9% vs. 6.1%). None of the breaches resulted in either neurologic deficits or vascular complications. In this paper, a measurement system is proposed for the measurement of the complex permeability of magnetic thin film Fe66Co17B16Si1 in the temperature range of −50 °C to 100 °C. Based on the transmission line theory, a shorted air microstrip line is designed for the high-precision measurement of the thin film. The magnetic film Fe66Co17B16Si1 with the thickness of 240 nm is measured in the frequency range of 0.05–12 GHz at the different temperatures. Abstract: TiO2/Co thin films were prepared on glass substrates under thermal non-equilibrium condition by alternately sputtering very thin TiO2 and Co layers for 60 periods. Microstructure and composition analyses by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy and electron energy-loss spectroscopy indicated that the Co element was incorporated into TiO2 to form the Ti1− x Co x O2 magnetic semiconductors. Abstract Macrophage-mediated inflammatory responses occur throughout all stages of atherosclerosis. DNA methylation is one of the critical epigenetic mechanisms and is associated with the development of atherosclerosis. The underlying mechanism of epigenetic regulation of macrophage inflammation (M1 activation) remains unclear. Here we aim to study the role of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) in modulating macrophage inflammation and atherosclerosis. DNMT1 expression is up-regulated in THP-1-derived macrophages upon treatment with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). Overexpression of DNMT1 promotes the LPS- and IFN-γ-induced M1 activation whereas inhibition of DNMT1 attenuates it. Consistently, DNMT1 expression is elevated in macrophages in atherosclerotic plaques from human and mouse specimens; compared with the Dnmt1wild-type, myeloid Dnmt1 deficiency in mice in an Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) knockout background or receiving AAV-PSCK9 injection and carotid partial ligation results in ameliorated atheroma formation and suppressed plaque inflammation. The promoter regions of atheroprotective Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) are hypermethylated in M1- activated macrophages. DNMT1 down-regulates the expression of KLF4, probably through catalyzing DNA methylation of the promoter regions of KLF4. Gain- and loss-of function study of KLF4 indicates that the DNMT1-mediated macrophage M1 activation is dependent on KLF4. Our data demonstrate a proatherogenic role for DNMT1 as a defining factor in macrophage inflammation both in vitro and in vivo. DNMT1 promotes macrophage M1 activation by suppressing KLF4 expression. Abstract Community detection is an important problem for understanding the structure and function of complex networks and has attracted a lot of attention in recent decades. Most community detection algorithms only focus on the topology of networks. However, there is still much valuable information hidden in the networks, such as the attributes or content of the nodes and the useful prior information. Obviously, taking full advantage of these resources can improve the effectiveness of community detection. In this paper, we present a semi-supervised community detection framework named SCDAN (Semi-supervised Community Detection in Attribute Networks), in which a non-negative matrix factorization model is utilized to effectively integrate network topology, node attributes and individual labels simultaneously. The comparative experiments on real-world networks show that SCDAN significantly improves the performance of community detection and provides semantic interpretation of communities. A simplified approach for the nonlinear analysis of the load-displacement response of a single pile is presented using the load-transfer approach. In the present method, a hyperbolic model is adopted to simulate the load-displacement response of both the pile base and the shaft. Using the Mindlin displacement solution of the elastic half-space, the pile end settlement induced by the skin friction of pile is calculated. Based on the present analytical method, a highly effective iterative computer program is developed for the analysis of the response of a single pile. The validity of the present method is then demonstrated with the results of the load tests carried on instrumented piles. The calculated results indicate that at all loading levels, the proposed method is generally in good agreement with the well-documented field test results and the calculated results derived from other approaches. It is noted the pile head displacement obtained from the present approach increases with increasing failure ratio of skin friction and end resistance at the same loading level. It is also observed that the influence of the failure ratio of skin friction to the pile head displacement is slightly larger than the influence of the pile end resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cells perceive the physical cues such as perturbations of extracellular matrix (ECM) stiffness, and translate these stimuli into biochemical signals controlling various aspects of cell behavior, which contribute to the physiological and pathological processes of multiple organs. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that during arterial stiffening, vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) sense the increase of ECM stiffness, which modulates the cellular phenotype through the regulation in DNA methyltransferases 1 (DNMT1) expression. Moreover, we hypothesized that the mechanisms involve intrinsic stiffening and deficiency in contractility of vascular SMCs. Substrate stiffening was mimicked in vitro with polyacrylamide gels. A contractile-to-synthetic phenotypic transition was induced by substrate stiffening in vascular SMCs through the down-regulation of DNMT1 expression. DNMT1 repression was also observed in the tunica media of mice aortas in an acute aortic injury model and a chronic kidney failure model, as well as in the tunica intima of human carotid arteries with calcified atherosclerotic lesions. DNMT1 inhibition facilitates arterial stiffening in vivo and promotes osteogenic transdifferentiation, calcification and cellular stiffening of vascular SMCs in vitro . These effects may be attributable, at least in part, to the role of DNMT1 in regulating the promoter activities of Transgelin (SM22α) and α-smooth muscle actin (SMA) and the functional contractility of SMCs. We conclude that DNMT1 is a critical regulator that negatively regulates arterial stiffening via maintaining the contractile phenotype of vascular SMCs. This research may facilitate elucidation of the complex crosstalk between vascular SMCs and their surrounding matrix in healthy and in pathological conditions and provide new insights into the implications for potential targeting of the phenotypic regulatory mechanisms in material-related therapeutic applications. Purpose: To evaluate whether acetabular orientation (abduction and anteversion) can be restored by lumbar pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients with thoracolumbar kyphosis.Materials and Methods: A total of 33 consecutive AS patients with thoracolumbar kyphosis undergoing one-level lumbar PSO were retrospectively reviewed. Radiographical measurements included sagittal vertical axis, global kyphosis, thoracic kyphosis, local kyphosis, lumbar lordosis, pelvic incidence, sacral slope, and pelvic tilt. Acetabular abduction and anteversion were measured on CT scans of the pelvis before and after lumbar PSO. The preoperative and postoperative parameters were compared by the paired samples t test. Pearson's correlation analysis was conducted to determine the correlations between the changes in acetabular abduction and anteversion and the changes in sagittal spinopelvic parameters.Results: After lumbar PSO, sagittal vertical axis, global kyphosis, and pelvic tilt were corrected from 15.7 ± 6.7 cm, 66.8° ± 17.5°, and 38.6° ± 9.0° to 2.9 ± 4.9 cm, 21.3° ± 8.2°, and 23.2° ± 8.2°, respectively (p < 0.001). Of note, acetabular abduction and anteversion decreased from 59.6° ± 4.6° to 31.4° ± 6.5° before surgery to 51.4° ± 6.5° and 20.2° ± 4.4° after surgery, respectively (p < 0.001). Moreover, the changes in acetabular abduction and anteversion were observed significantly correlated with the change in pelvic tilt (r = 0.527, p = 0.002; r = 0.586, p < 0.001).Conclusion: Abnormal acetabular abduction and anteversion could be corrected by lumbar PSO in AS patients with thoracolumbar kyphosis. Consequently, a relatively normal acetabular orientation could be achieved after lumbar PSO, which might decrease the potential risk of dislocation in AS patients with spine and hip deformities requiring subsequent THR surgery. The Al 2 CrFeCo x CuNiTi high-entropy alloy coatings were prepared by laser cladding on Q235 steel surface. The microstructure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy with spectroscopy (SEM/EDS). Electrochemical workstation was used to test the corrosion resistance of Al 2 CrFeCo x CuNiTi high-entropy alloy coatings and Q235 steel in H 2 SO 4 and HCl solutions. Experimental results show that the coating and its substrate are well combined. The cladding zone is mainly composed of equiaxed grains, as well as “cat foot shaped” grains and “snowflake” grains distributed in the matrix grains. Cracks appear in the coatings due to thermal stress. The corrosion resistance of Al 2 Co x CrCuFeNiTi coatings is excellent in H 2 SO 4 and HCl solutions, which can be attributed to three factors: the formability of Co element, passivation film formed on the alloy surface and the microstructure of the alloy. Increasing Co content can lead to an enhancement of the corrosion resistance of high-entropy alloy coatings in 0.5 mol/L HCl solution. Cyclic polarization curve shows no pitting corrosion in the 0.5 mol/L H 2 SO 4 solution for the Co 2.0 high-entropy alloy coating, but slight pitting corrosion in 0.5 mol/L HCl solution for the Co 0.5 high-entropy alloy coating due to the Cl − in the medium. An AlCrFeNiCuTi six principal elements equimolar alloy was prepared by powder metallurgy. The microstructure, hardness, corrosion resistance and compression strength of the alloy were investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy with spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), X-ray diffraction, micro/Vickers hardness tester, electrochemical workstation and material testing machine. Experimental results show that the AlCrFeNiCuTi alloy was mainly composed of petal-like microstructure, in which petal edge and center are filled with fine and coarse particles respectively. Copper is enriched in intergranular regions, which improves the plasticity of the alloy. The microhardness is 522 HV and the compressive strength is 1474 MPa. Compared with 304 stainless steel, the corrosion current density of AlCrFeNiCuTi alloy is reduced by two orders of magnitude, and the corrosion potential is more “positive”. Circular polarization curve indicates that there is no pitting in 0.5 mol/L H 2 SO 4 solution, and the Titanium element provides guarantee for excellent corrosion resistance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel sheet-pile groin structure consisting of row piles and a tied sheet has been introduced to resist the impact of tidal bores in recent years. However, the dynamic responses of the structure under tidal bore loads have not been carefully studied before. This paper proposed an analytical solution for the dynamic responses of a sheet-pile groin subjected to transient lateral excitation. To take the flexural and longitudinal vibrations into consideration, the piles and the sheet are modeled by Timoshenko beam (TB) theory and a one-dimensional rod, respectively. The soil around the piles is simulated by the dynamic Winkler foundation model. The excitation is considered by a lateral concentrated point load acting on the front pile. On this basis, the governing equations are constructed in the time domain and solved in the frequency domain, while the time-domain responses are obtained using the inverse Fourier transform. The accuracy of the presented analytical solution is validated by comparison with the results obtained from finite element method (FEM) simulation. The effects of the properties of the sheet, piles and soil on the dynamic responses are investigated through a comprehensive parametric study. • Dynamic responses of the sheet-pile groin subjected to a transient lateral excitation are developed. • The mathematical model takes the flexural and longitudinal vibrations into consideration to simulate the sheet-pile groin. • Velocity responses of the sheet-pile groin in time and frequency domain depend on the stiffness of the sheet-pile. • The higher shear wave velocity of the soil corresponds to a greater resonance frequency. Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding composites are inevitably damaged in the long-term usage which would affect the regular operation of the devices. Hence, the demand for materials with healable and reliable EMI shielding performance has increased. Here, a flexible conductive composite owning both self–healing and EMI shielding functions is facilely developed, with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as conductive filler and dynamically crosslinked polyurethane bearing Diels–Alder bonds (PUDA) as polymer matrix. The PUDA/CNT composite shows a high EMI shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of 30.7 dB at 5.0 wt% CNT loading in the range of X-band (8.2–12.4 GHz). And the EMI SE can recover from 16.8 dB for damaged state to 29.8 dB after three times cut/healing cycles, revealing excellent EMI SE retention of 97.1%. The PUDA/CNT composite also exhibits healable tensile properties with an elongation at break up to 571% ± 31% at 2.0 wt% CNT content and self-healing efficiency of 89.2% after the repeatable healing. This work demonstrates a healable EMI shielding composite, which ensures the reliability and long-time use under harsh conditions. A correction considering the effects of atmospheric temperature, pressure, and Mie contamination must be performed for wind retrieval from a Rayleigh Doppler lidar (RDL), since the so-called Rayleigh response is directly related to the convolution of the optical transmission of the frequency discriminator and the Rayleigh–Brillouin spectrum of the molecular backscattering. Thus, real-time and on-site profiles of atmospheric pressure, temperature, and aerosols should be provided as inputs to the wind retrieval. Firstly, temperature profiles under 35 km and above the altitude are retrieved, respectively, from a high spectral resolution lidar (HSRL) and a Rayleigh integration lidar (RIL) incorporating to the RDL. Secondly, the pressure profile is taken from the European Center for Medium range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) analysis, while radiosonde data are not available. Thirdly, the Klett–Fernald algorithms are adopted to estimate the Mie and Rayleigh components in the atmospheric backscattering. After that, the backscattering ratio is finally determined in a nonlinear fitting of the transmission of the atmospheric backscattering through the Fabry–Perot interferometer (FPI) to a proposed model. In the validation experiments, wind profiles from the lidar show good agreement with the radiosonde in the overlapping altitude.
