Abstract

This paper reports on the NTIRE 2023 Quality Assessment of Video Enhancement Challenge, which will be held in conjunction with the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement Workshop (NTIRE) at CVPR 2023. This challenge is to address a major challenge in the field of video processing, namely, video quality assessment (VQA) for enhanced videos. The challenge uses the VQA Dataset for Perceptual Video Enhancement (VDPVE), which has a total of 1211 enhanced videos, including 600 videos with color, brightness, and contrast enhancements, 310 videos with deblurring, and 301 deshaked videos. The challenge has a total of 167 registered participants. 61 participating teams submitted their prediction results during the development phase, with a total of 3168 submissions. A total of 176 submissions were submitted by 37 participating teams during the final testing phase. Finally, 19 participating teams submitted their models and fact sheets, and detailed the methods they used. Some methods have achieved better results than baseline methods, and the winning methods have demonstrated superior prediction performance.

伴皮质下梗死和白质脑病的常染色体显性遗传性脑动脉病（cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy，CADASIL）是NOTCH3基因突变所致的遗传性脑小血管病，主要病变血管为颅内小动脉，累及大脑皮质和颅内大/中动脉的报道较罕见，目前缺乏特效治疗方法。本文报道1例大脑中动脉急性闭塞成功接受血管内治疗的CADASIL病例，并结合文献进行讨论，旨在引起临床医师对CADASIL可累及大脑皮质和颅内大/中动脉的重视。 Abstract: Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is a hereditary cerebral small vessel disease caused by mutations in the NOTCH3 gene. The main vascular pathological changes in CADASIL are intracranial small arteries, with rare reports of involvement in the cerebral cortex and intracranial large/middle arteries. There is currently a lack of specific treatment for CADASIL. This paper reported a case of CADASIL patient who successfully received endovascular treatment for acute occlusion of middle cerebral artery, and discussed the literature with the aim of raising clinical awareness of the potential involvement of CADASIL in the cerebral cortex and intracranial large/middle arteries.

Abstract

This paper summarizes the results of the first Monocular Depth Estimation Challenge (MDEC) organized at WACV2023. This challenge evaluated the progress of self-supervised monocular depth estimation on the challenging SYNS-Patches dataset. The challenge was organized on CodaLab and received submissions from 4 valid teams. Participants were provided a devkit containing updated reference implementations for 16 State-of-the-Art algorithms and 4 novel techniques. The threshold for acceptance for novel techniques was to outperform every one of the 16 SotA baselines. All participants outperformed the baseline in traditional metrics such as MAE or AbsRel. However, pointcloud reconstruction metrics were challenging to improve upon. We found predictions were characterized by interpolation artefacts at object boundaries and errors in relative object positioning. We hope this challenge is a valuable contribution to the community and encourage authors to participate in future editions., Comment: WACV-Workshops 2023

Abstract

Bound states of solitons (molecules) occur in various settings, playing an important role in the operation of fiber lasers, optical emulations, encoding, and communications. Soliton interactions are generally related to breathing dynamics in nonlinear dissipative systems, maintaining potential applications in spectroscopy. In the present work, dichromatic breather molecules (DBMs) are created in a synchronized mode-locked fiber laser. Real-time delay-shifting interference spectra are measured to display the temporal evolution of the DBMs, that cannot be observed by means of the usual real-time spectroscopy. As a result, robust out-of-phase vibrations are found as a typical intrinsic mode of DBMs. The same bound states are produced numerically in the framework of a model combining equations for the population inversion in the mode-locked laser and XPM-coupled complex Ginzburg-Landau equations for amplitudes of the optical fields in the fiber segments of the laser cavity. The results demonstrate that the Q-switching instability induces the onset of breathing oscillations. Abstract

In this work, we introduce Gradient Siamese Network (GSN) for image quality assessment. The proposed method is skilled in capturing the gradient features between distorted images and reference images in full-reference image quality assessment(IQA) task. We utilize Central Differential Convolution to obtain both semantic features and detail difference hidden in image pair. Furthermore, spatial attention guides the network to concentrate on regions related to image detail. For the low-level, mid-level and high-level features extracted by the network, we innovatively design a multi-level fusion method to improve the efficiency of feature utilization. In addition to the common mean square error supervision, we further consider the relative distance among batch samples and successfully apply KL divergence loss to the image quality assessment task. We experimented the proposed algorithm GSN on several publicly available datasets and proved its superior performance. Abstract

The exploration of security applications of quantum cryptography for industrial control systems is a key research effort aimed at enhancing the security of industrial control systems through quantum cryptography. In this paper, we study the security threats faced by industrial control systems, including network attacks, data leakage, and system tampering, and propose to utilize quantum key distribution and quantum invisible state transfer algorithms to ensure the secure transmission of industrial control system data. The simulation test environment of the upper and lower computers of the industrial control system is built. The quantum encryption and decryption algorithms are deployed in the embedded environment and PCs to test the effectiveness of quantum cryptography to enhance the advanced encryption standard key scheme. The experimental results show that the quantum cryptography technology successfully realizes the encryption and decryption of data, and the total time consumed in the whole process is less than 61.8 seconds, which meets the requirements of a real-time industrial control system. Therefore, quantum cryptography is suitable for protecting field-level data in industrial control systems.

Abstract

Monodentate organophosphorus ligands have been used for the extraction of the uranyl ion (UO22+) for over half a century and have exhibited exceptional extractability and selectivity toward the uranyl ion due to the presence of the phosphoryl group (O═P). Tributyl phosphate (TBP) is the extractant of the world-renowned PUREX process, which selectively recovers uranium from spent nuclear fuel. Trialkyl phosphine oxide (TRPO) shows extractability toward the uranyl ion that far exceeds that for other metal ions, and it has been used in the TRPO process. To date, however, the mechanism of the high affinity of the phosphoryl group for UO22+ remains elusive. We herein investigate the bonding covalency in a series of complexes of UO22+ with TRPO by oxygen K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in combination with density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Four TRPO ligands with different R substituents are examined in this work, for which both the ligands and their uranyl complexes are crystallized and investigated. The study of the electronic structure of the TRPO ligands reveals that the two TRPO molecules, irrespective of their substituents, can engage in σ- and π-type interactions with U 5f and 6d orbitals in the UO2Cl2(TRPO)2 complexes. Although both the axial (Oyl) and equatorial (Oeq) oxygen atoms in the UO2Cl2(TRPO)2 complexes contribute to the X-ray absorption, the first pre-edge feature in the O K-edge XAS with a small intensity is exclusively contributed by Oeq and is assigned to the transition from Oeq 1s orbitals to the unoccupied molecular orbitals of 1b1u + 1b2u + 1b3u symmetries resulting from the σ- and π-type mixing between U 5f and Oeq 2p orbitals. The small intensity in the experimental spectra is consistent with the small amount of Oeq 2p character in these orbitals for the four UO2Cl2(TRPO)2 complexes as obtained by Mulliken population analysis. The DFT calculations demonstrate that the U 6d orbitals are also involved in the U-TRPO bonding interactions in the UO2Cl2(TRPO)2 complexes. The covalent bonding interactions between TRPO and UO22+, especially the contributions from U 5f orbitals, while appearing to be small, are sufficiently responsible for the exceptional extractability and selectivity of monodentate organophosphorus ligands for the uranyl ion. Our results provide valuable insight into the fundamental actinide chemistry and are expected to directly guide actinide separation schemes needed for the development of advanced nuclear fuel cycle technologies.
