The D0-0 mixing at Belle in different modes with corresponding methods is reported in this paper, there is a clear evidence for non-zero y D0 mixing parameter, and the measurement of D0 mixing parameter x is still a challenge. CP violation in the decays is not observed. Branching fractions of other charm decays are presented.

Primary vertex reconstruction is crucial to estimate the beam profile in collision experiments. We study the principle of an iterative process, called the Kalman filter method, and apply it to primary vertex reconstruction at BESIII. A Newton procedure to find the zero point of the distance function's gradient is used for primary vertex finding in 3-dimensional space. Results are obtained based on raw data at BESIII.

This paper presents a study on `hard' and `soft' interactions in p (pp) collisions using a phenomenological model of HIJING, the jet-cone reconstruction method is employed to select the `hard' and `soft' event sub-samples from minimum bias events. It is found that the HIJING model can reproduce the energy scaling behaviour of mean transverse momentum ( ) distributions of charged hadrons versus multiplicity (Nch) in `soft' events. From the PYTHIA simulation comparing with the HIJING model, the enhancement of the kaon and proton yields from `hard' interactions comparing with `soft' interactions is observed to be due to the mini-jets effect. These mechanisms responsible for the increase of charged hadron's are different in `soft' and `hard' interactions.

The radiation damage characteristics of three types of plastic scintillators, BC-408, EJ-200 and BC-404, are experimentally studied. The results show that after irradiation, the light yield and light transmission of these scintillators decrease and the shapes of the excitation and emission spectra remain unchanged. Recovery of light yield is not observed after weak irradiation.

A time-of-flight (TOF) detector system based on plastic scintillators will be used in the Beijing spectrometer III (BSE-III) at Beijing Electron Positron Collider. In this note the result of a detailed Monte Carlo simulation for single TOF scintillator modules, based on GEANT4, is presented. The intrinsic time resolution is obtained. Also given is a comparison of two kinds of plastic scintillation material—BC404 and BC408 of different thicknesses, coupling mode with PMT and geometry. These simulation results could serve as an important guide for the BES-III TOF design.

Superoxide dismutase (SOD, EC 1.15.1.1) plays an important antioxidant defense role in skins exposed to oxygen. We studied the inhibitory effects of Al3+ on the activity and conformation of manganese-containing SOD (Mn-SOD). Mn-SOD was significantly inactivated by Al3+ in a dose-dependent manner. The kinetic studies showed that Al3+ inactivated Mn-SOD follows the first-order reaction. Al3+ increased the degree of secondary structure of Mn-SOD and also disrupted the tertiary structure of Mn-SOD, which directly resulted in enzyme inactivation. We further simulated the docking between Mn-SOD and Al3+ (binding energy for Dock 6.3: −14.07 kcal/mol) and suggested that ASP152 and GLU157 residues were predicted to interact with Al3+, which are not located in the Mn-contained active site. Our results provide insight into the inactivation of Mn-SOD during unfolding in the presence of Al3+ and allow us to describe a ligand binding via inhibition kinetics combined with the computational prediction.
