Damnacanthus indicus C.F.Gaertn. is an understorey shrub widely distributed in East Asia. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of D. indicus was assembled and annotated. The chloroplast genome is 153,997 bp in total length, consisting of a large single-copy region (LSC 85,159 bp), a small single-copy region (SSC 17,584 bp) and two inverted repeat regions (25,627 bp for IRA and IRB,respectively). It contains 134 genes, including 89 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that D. indicus is sister to Mitchella repens, suggesting a close relationship of the two genera.

The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Semiaquilegia guangxiensis was assembled and the phylogenetic relationship with other species in Trib. Isopyreae was inferred in this study. The chloroplast genome is 164,047 bp in length. A typical quadripartite structure was detected, including two inverted repeats (IRs) of 29,581 bp, which are separated by a large single-copy (LSC) and a small single-copy (SSC) of 87,490 bp and 17,395 bp, respectively. Moreover, The genome comprises 132 genes, including 88 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. The overall GC content of the chloroplast genome is 38.9%. The phylogenetic analysis indicated that S. guangxiensis is most closely related to its congener S. adoxoides, and Semiaquilegia is most closely related to Aquilegia in Ranunculaceae.

Objective Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR） was used to analyze myocardial infarction tissues at different stages of pathological change to achieve the forensic pathology diagnosis of acute and old myocardial infarction. Methods FTIR spectra data of early ischemic myocardium, necrotic myocardium, and myocardial fibrous tissue in the left ventricular anterior wall of the sudden death group of atherosclerotic heart disease and the myocardium of the normal control group were collected using hematoxylin-eosin （HE） and immunohistochemistry （IHC） staining as a reference, and the data were analyzed using multivariate statistical analysis. Results The mean normalized spectra of control myocardium, early ischemic myocardium and necrotic myocardium were relatively similar, but the mean second derivative spectra were significantly different. The peak intensity of secondary structure of proteins in early ischemic myocardium was significantly higher than in other types of myocardium, and the peak intensity of the α-helix in necrotic myocardium was the lowest. The peaks of amide Ⅰ and amide Ⅱ in the mean normalized spectra of myocardial fibrous tissue significantly shifted towards higher wave numbers, the peak intensities of amide Ⅱ and amide Ⅲ were higher than those of other types of myocardium, and the peak intensities at 1 338, 1 284, 1 238 and 1 204 cm-1 in the mean second derivative spectra were significantly enhanced. Principal component analysis （PCA） and partial least square-discriminant analysis （PLS-DA） showed that FTIR could distinguish different types of myocardium. Conclusion FTIR technique has the potential to diagnose acute and old myocardial infarction, and provides a new basis for the analysis of the causes of sudden cardiac death.

Hemiboea liana, a species of Gesneriaceae new to science found in northern Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated. While sharing morphological similarities with H. chanii and H. sinovietnamica, the new species can be distinguished by a distinct combination of traits, such as its brown rounded squared hard stem and trigonous purple-light brown involucre. Detailed information is provided, including a morphological description, illustrations, diagnostic comparisons, and a molecular phylogenetic analysis placing the new species among 30 out of 44 species currently recognized in Hemiboea. Based on morphological and molecular data, Glabrella bogaoi, a new species from limestone areas in southern China, is described and illustrated here. G. bogaoi is morphologically distinct from the other species of Glabrella by its stems, which can grow up to 5-30 cm, calyx segments that are adpressed to the corolla base, and corolla outside white. It is morphologically most similar to G. mihieri. Furthermore, a phylogenetic analysis of the combined matrix of trnL-F and ITS sequences, including 4 taxa of Glabrella, has been provided. The phylogenetic analysis indicates that G. bogaoi is an independent new species. A table and a key to distinguish the new species from all other Glabrella species are also provided. Lysionotus serratus var. pterocaulis C.Y.Wu ex W.T.Wang was initially described as a variety, but was treated as an independent species L. pterocaulis (C.Y.Wu ex W.T.Wang) H.W.Li in 1991, although this status was not always retained by subsequent authors. Our observation of wild living plants demonstrated that L. pterocaulis is obviously distinguishable from L. serratus D.Don through its longitudinally angled stems with wings, yellowish to white corolla, tubular to slightly funnelform tube, and linear-lanceolate calyx lobes. Furthermore, the molecular phylogenetic analyses indicated that L. pterocaulis is not clustered with L. serratus but embedded in a different lineage. Therefore, L. pterocaulis is confirmed to be an independent species and an updated description is provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Iris calcicola Z.C.Lu, Z.P.Huang & Yan Liu, a new species of Iris sect. Lophiris was found from limestone areas of Guangxi, China. Iris calcicola is similar to Iris japonica Thunb., but differs by its inflorescence simple; flowering stems ascendent, with 2-5 branches; spathes 2, narrowly lanceolate, 2-3.8 cm long, 1-2 (3)-flowered, apex acuminate; flower segments obliquely ascending, not spreading when blooming; pedicel enveloped by spathes or subequal to spathes; outer segments elliptic, with prominent, irregular, yellow crest.
