Hydrated electron e−(aq) reaction with the alkyl halide and aryl halide was simulated synergistically with ab initial molecular dynamics (AIMD) in this study to reveal the morphological and dynamics mechanism. An original method was developed for preparing the proper initial wavefunction guess of AIMD, in which the extra electron was curled properly in a tetrahedral cavity of four water molecules. Our results indicated that the tetrahedral structure of e−(aq) (THE*) is more stable than the prism structure e−(aq) (PHE*) from the energy aspect. The interior weak interaction in THE* is mainly between the hydroxyl group with the extra electron, while the PHE* structure stability is attributed to the weak H-H interaction. The extra electron, with a significant sigma characteristic, collapses in a cavity composed of water molecules in these two structures and has a probability of collapsing to a certain sole water, this probability is inversely proportional to the number of waters; Organic halides prefer the direct reaction with e−(aq) in a neutral or alkaline environment while the hydrogen radical would be the dominant reaction species in an acidic solution. Fluorobenzene and fluoromethane are the hardest molecules to accept the extra electron and also have the highest reaction barriers during the hydrogen radical reactions; AIMD suggested that the LUMO or higher orbitals were the e−(aq) migration destination. The transplanted electron enhanced C-halogen bond vibration before the cleavage actually occurred. The solvation of the departing halogen anions was observed in both fluorobenzene and fluoromethane AIMD, indicating it might have a significant effect on enthalpy. A deformation of fluoromethane product, the methane radical, was detected from the sp3 structure to the sp2 plane structure, resulting in larger energy differences during the reaction than aryl halides. The study provided theoretical insight into the pollutant environmental fate and placed a methodological foundation for AIMD simulation of analogous free radical reactions.

In this work, an efficient and green approach has been presented to prepare carbon quantum dots (CQDs) from watermelon juice through a microfluidic steam-based method, with a view to enabling continuous production at scale, i.e., to save time, costs, or energy as compared to conventional production using an autoclave. The evolution of the product formation through multifarious intermediates generated in different stages of the reaction process was characterized. Computational fluid dynamics simulations reveal the pressure and velocity profiles in the microchannel to exert process control. These determine the quality of the obtained CQDs by influencing the particle size transformations and manifold chemicals along the microchannel axis. The optimal reaction conditions and reaction mechanism for the synthesis of CQDs were investigated. Additionally, the synthesized CQDs demonstrated good fluorescence properties as well as a specific response to NO 2 − {\text{NO}}_{2}^{-} in both fluorescence and spectrophotometric modes, providing great potential for their application in environmental monitoring.

The compounding of surfactants with specific nanomaterials may result in a system of multi-functionalities. In this work, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were prepared by a microplasma-aided approach, where traditional chemical reductants were not required. The influence of plasma conditions and parameters on the product (e.g. composition, structure) was studied via characterization techniques like UV–Vis, SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, SAED, OES and HRTEM. Results showed that crystalline AgNPs of high purity can be directly obtained in one step, without any chemical reducing agents. Meanwhile, a gemini cationic surfactant (Tetramethylene-α,ω-bis(lauryloxyethyl dimethyl lammonium bromide)) of superior surface activity and well antibacterial property was synthesized, and then compounded with the plasma-generated AgNPs to form a nano-surfactant system. By evaluating their antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus, the synergistic effects of the compounding system were studied. It was demonstrated that AgNPs were well-dispersed in the presence of the gemini cationic surfactant, and the nano-surfactant compounding system has improved antibacterial activity as well as good stability.

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are highly toxic synthetic chemicals, which are considered the most persistent organic contaminants in the environment. Previous studies have demonstrated that hydrated electron based techniques could completely destruct these compounds. However, in the reactions, alkaline and anaerobic conditions are generally required or surfactants are involved. Herein, we developed a simple binary composite, only including PFAS and hydrated electron source chemical. The system exhibited high efficiency for the utilization of hydrated electrons to decompose PFASs. By comparing the degradation processes of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in the presence of seven indole derivatives with different chemical properties, we could conclude that the reaction efficiency was dependent on not only the yield of hydrated electrons but also the interaction between PFOA and indole derivative. Among these derivatives, indole showed the highest degradation performance due to its relatively high ability to generate hydrated electrons, and more importantly, indole could form a hydrogen bonding with PFOA to accelerate the electron transfer. Moreover, the novel composite demonstrated high reaction efficiency even with coexisting humic substance and in a wide pH range (4-10). This study would deepen our understanding of the design of hydrated electron based techniques to treat PFAS-containing wastewater.

As a novel alternative to traditional perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), hexafluoroproplyene oxide trimer acid (HFPO-TA) has been detected worldwide in surface water. Moreover, recent researches have demonstrated that HFPO-TA has stronger bioaccumulation potential and higher hepatotoxicity than PFOA. To treat these contaminants e.g. PFOA and PFOS, some photochemical techniques by adding exogenous substances had been reported. However, there is still no report for the behavior of HFPO-TA itself under direct UV irradiation. The current study investigated the photo-transformation of HFPO-TA under UV irradiation in aqueous solution. After 72 hr photoreaction, 75% degradation ratio and 25% defluorination ratio were achieved under ambient condition. Reducing active species, i.e., hydrated electrons and active hydrogen atoms, generated from water splitting played dominant roles in degradation of HFPO-TA, which was confirmed by different effects of reaction atmospheres and quenching experiments. A possible degradation pathway was proposed based on the products identification and theoretical calculations. In general, HFPO-TA would be transformed into shorter-chain PFASs, including hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA), perfluoropropionic acid (PFA) and trifluoroacetate (TFA). This research provides basic information for HFPO-TA photodegradation process and is essential to develop novel remediation techniques for HFPO-TA and other alternatives with similar structures.

Urban greenspace provides essential benefits and often depends on its distribution and spatial relationship with residents. Many cities set ambitious goals to increase the coverage of greenspace. In addition, to increase the total amount of greenspace, spatial patterns of greenspace supply and demand also need to be taken into account to make sure its ecosystem services can reach the residents. While previous research has examined greenspace distribution, its association with various ecosystem services, and its spatial relationship with residents’ socioeconomic characteristics, relatively few studies have considered the spatial pattern of greenspace demand to assess its supply change over time. To fill this gap, we evaluated the greenspace change of Beijing between 2005 and 2015 using 2.5 m and 0.5 m high resolution remote sensing images. We first identified all of the greenspace changes, then evaluated the improvement of greenspace that was accessible to residents, and finally, we examined whether such improvement met different levels of demand estimated by neighborhood population, age structure, and economic status. The results showed a net increase of 1472 ha (7.8%) from 2005 to 2015. On average, percent greenspace within 500 m of the neighborhood boundary increased from 21% to 24%. Areas with low greenspace supply had a significantly higher increase. The standard deviation reduced from 8% to 7%, which indicated a smaller disparity of accessible greenspace. However, results showed that greenspace increase had little variation among neighborhoods with different demand levels. Our findings indicated that the greening efforts improved spatial distribution and reduced inequality in accessibility but failed to address different demand levels among neighborhoods. Furthermore, we identified neighborhoods with low supply/high demand and that lost greenspace between 2005–2015. These neighborhoods need to be given attention in future greening projects.

Microplastics are emerging contaminants that are increasingly detected in soil environment, but their impact on soil microbiota and related biogeochemical processes remains poorly understood. In particular, the mechanisms involved (e.g., the role of chemical additives) are still elusive. In this study, we found that plasticizer-containing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) microplastics at 0.5% (w/w) significantly increased soil NH4+-N content and decreased NO3--N content by up to 91%, and shaped soil microbiota into a microbial system with more nitrogen-fixing microorganisms (as indicated by nifDHK gene abundance), urea decomposers (ureABC genes and urease activity) and nitrate reducers (nasA, NR, NIT-6 and napAB genes), and less nitrifiers (amoC gene and potential nitrification rate). Exposure to plasticizer alone had a similar effect on soil nitrogen parameters but microplastics of pure PVC polymer (either granule or film) had little effect over 60 days, indicating that phthalate plasticizer released from microplastics was the main driver of effects observed. Furthermore, a direct link between phthalate plasticizer, microbial taxonomic changes and altered nitrogen metabolism was established by the isolation of phthalate-degrading bacteria involved in nitrogen cycling. This study highlights the importance of chemical additives in determining the interplay of microplastics with microbes and nutrient cycling, which needs to be considered in future studies.

Semiconductor heterojunctions with fast photogenerated carrier transfer have great potential for environmental remediation. However, most of the semiconductor heterojunctions reported so far are surface lipophobic and have low affinity for most lipophilic organic pollutants. Herein, we developed a facile hydrothermal method coupled with a self-assembly strategy to synthesize a novel MoCdS3 photocatalyst modified by hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (HDTMA) surfactant (HDTMA-MoCdS3). Detailed characterizations, including SEM-EDS, HRTEM, XRD, FTIR, XPS, Raman spectroscopy and optical contact angle, were carried out to confirm the structure and surface properties of the crystalline heterojunction. Further photoelectrochemical tests proved the superior performance of HDTMA-MoCdS3 for separation of photogenerated carriers compared to bulk CdS and MoS2. Bisphenol A and methyl orange were chosen as the model pollutants to investigate the capture performance and further photocatalytic ability of HDTMA-MoCdS3. By synergistic effect of rapid adsorption of pollutants and high capacity for photogenerated carrier transfer, the HDTMA-MoCdS3 composites exhibit outstanding activity and stability for photodegradation of organic contaminants.

In recent years, great efforts have been made to understand the capacity of microplastics to adsorb environmental pollutants; however, relatively little is known about the ability of microplastics to release inherent additives into peripheral environments. In this study, we investigated the leaching behavior of phthalate plasticizer from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) microplastics, in aqueous solutions relevant to aquatic and soil environments. It was found that plastic properties, such as particle size, plasticizer content and aging of plastics had a great effect on the leaching of dibutyl phthalate (DnBP). Phthalate release was generally higher in smaller particles and particles with higher phthalate content. Whereas, plastic aging caused by solar irradiation could either enhance phthalate release by increasing plastic hydrophilicity or decrease the leaching by reducing readily available fractions of phthalate. Regarding environmental factors, solution pH (3–9) and ionic strength (0–0.2 M NaCl) were found to have minor effect on phthalate release, while fulvic acid (0–200 mg/L) greatly promoted the release by improving phthalate solubility and solution-plastic affinity. Interestingly, we found that more DnBP was leached out when fulvic acid and NaCl coexisted, and the results from dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy analyzes suggested that the leaching of other fulvic acid-like additives might have played a role. These findings would be helpful for predicting the potential of microplastics to release toxic additives under different environmental conditions.

Brown carbon (BrC) is the important component of aerosol with strong UV–visible absorbance. However, the formation of BrC is still elusive. Inorganic anions, e.g., Cl−, NO3− and SO42−, exist ubiquitously in the atmosphere, while their effects on the formation of BrC are poorly understood. In this study, we have systematically investigated the effects of pH (1, 2 and 3), inorganic anion (Cl−, NO3− and SO42−) and ionic strength (0.1, 0.5 and 1.0 M) on BrC generation process by measuring the optical, aggregation and product properties. Our results clearly show that the three factors strongly affect the BrC formation by influencing the oxidation activity and the complexation capability of different Fe(III) species. Marcus theory was used in this research to calculate the oxidation activity of different Fe(III) species. Among all the species of Fe(III), FeOH2+ is the most reactive form in the BrC formation reaction. Furthermore, the aggregation process of BrC was also studied, which is affected by different anions due to their different concentration and hydrability, and SO42− exhibits the highest efficiency to induce the aggregation of BrC. This study will deepen our understanding about the natural formation of BrC under environmentally relevant conditions, and be beneficial for controlling the production of atmospheric particulates and the subsequent health effects.

Perfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) is a class of anionic surfactants with superior stability in the environment. Due to the harmful health effect, PFASs have been listed as the priority controlled pollutants. Our recent study had developed a cationic surfactant induced ternary self-assembled micelle system to effectively degrade PFASs. In this study, using perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) as the model pollutant, we further investigated the effects of different variables on the degradation processes. According to the results of laser flash photolysis and dynamic light scattering, the degradation of PFOA was positively correlated with the chain length of the surfactants. While for double-chain surfactant, the steric effect might hinder the reaction. Our results also indicated that in the presence of high concentration of NaCl, the electrostatic attraction between Cl− and the positively charged micelle made the micelle structure loose and thus slightly reduced the degradation efficiency. Similarly, the presence of NOM could also affect the degradation process via regulating the micelle structure. Furthermore, the optimal degradation efficiency for PFOA was obtained at neutral pH by the compromise of hydrated electron yield and self-assembled micelle structure. This composite showed good adaptability under ambient conditions and would have great potential for treatment of industrial PFAS containing wastewater, e.g., in the ternary micelle system, 18.95 mg L−1 PFOA could be completely degraded within 8 h without any pretreatments.

Knowledge of the influence of microplastics on soil microbiome and nutrients is important for understanding the ecological consequences of microplastic pollution in terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, we investigated whether polyvinyl chloride (PVC) microplastic pollution at environmentally relevant concentrations would affect soil bacterial community and available nitrogen/phosphorus content. The results showed that although PVC microplastics at 0.1% and 1% levels did not have a significant effect on overall bacterial community diversity and composition in soil over the course of 35 days, a number of bacterial genera were significantly reduced or enriched by the presence of microplastics. Potentially due to their effect on certain functional groups, microplastics caused a significant change in soil available P content. It is noteworthy that, depending on soil type, pollution level and plasticizer presence, contrasting effects of microplastics may be observed. Further research is definitely warranted to gain a clearer picture of the threats posed by microplastic pollution in soil environments.

Recently, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have received great attention from both academia and the industry due to their persistence and health risks. Here, we developed a simple ternary self-assembled micelle composite, consisting of a photosensitive substance (indole acetic acid, IAA), cationic surfactant (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide), and contaminant (PFAS). Owing to the rapid hydrated electron transfer from IAA to the PFAS in the micelle, the PFAS degradation and defluorination were greatly enhanced even under ambient conditions. After 2.5 h UV irradiation, the perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) concentration decreased from 10 mg L-1 to ∼60 ng L-1, which is below the drinking water health advisory level of the United States Environmental Protection Agency for the combined concentration of PFOA and perfluorooctane sulfonate (70 ng L-1). Meanwhile, the dissolved organic carbon content of the reaction solution was also reduced to ∼3 mg L-1 due to the quick settlement and automatic separation of the micelle. Furthermore, the newly developed composite was also adaptable to a wide pH range (pH 4-8), attributing to the barrier created by the ternary micelle system. This novel self-assembly method is expected to directly treat industrial PFAS-containing wastewater or PFAS-enriched concentrates derived from adsorption processes. The conceptually new advanced reduction technique represents a major breakthrough toward PFAS rapid destruction and efficient usage of hydrated electrons and might also shed light on other environmental applications.

In this study, a new photo-aging pathway in the aquatic environments and the underlying transformation mechanism were described for polyvinyl chloride microplastic (PVC-MP). Our results indicated that the photo-aging of PVC-MP was strongly dependent on particle size and the aging reaction could be facilitated in the presence of low-molecular-weight organic acid (LMWOA) and LMWOA-Fe(III) complex under simulated and natural sunlight irradiation and ambient conditions. The hydroxyl radical (OH•) generated from the photolysis of LMWOA or its ferric complexes played a dominant role in enhancing PVC-MP degradation. In situ Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectroscopic techniques and theoretical calculations further confirmed that C-Cl bond cleavage and formation of polyene and carbonyl underwent on the PVC-MP surface, especially in the presence of LMWOA and LMWOA-Fe(III). Moreover, PVC-MP surface oxidation also led to the increase of the specific surface area and affinity towards water as indicated by the results of scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller tests and contact angles for water, which would further enhance the adsorption of polar contaminants on PVC-MP and thus increase the health risk of PVC-MP on aquatic organisms.

The overuse of ciprofloxacin (CIP), causing serious environment pollution, has drawn great attentions. To provide alternative solution to this problem, we synthesized a snow-like BiVO4 with rich oxygen vacancy by adjusting the amounts of cetyltrimethyl ammonia bromide (CTAB) surfactant. Various characterizations were performed to investigate the morphology and surface properties of the synthesized BiVO4. Interestingly, both the morphology and the amount of oxygen vacancy were related to the concentration of additional CTAB, and the most oxygen vacancies were generated when specific amount of CTAB (molar ratio of CTAB to Bi3+ of 0.2) was introduced. Photoluminescence and photoelectrochemical tests demonstrated that the presence of oxygen vacancy significantly enhanced the separation efficiency of photo-generated carriers in BiVO4. Subsequently, CIP photodegradation was significantly enhanced in the presence of snow-like BiVO4. Both quenching experiments and EPR tests demonstrated that photogenerated holes and •O2− were the main active species contributing to CIP degradation. Furthermore, CIP transformation pathway was proposed based on the identified transformation products. Our study developed a novel method to synthesize a BiVO4 material with snow-like morphology and abundant oxygen vacancy by simply varying the amount of surfactant. This study would shed light on designing the next generation photocatalyst with the assistant of surfactant to control the surface properties.

This study examined the electrochemical (EC) reduction of iodinated contrast media (ICM) exemplified by iopamidol and diatrizoate. The method of rotating ring-disc electrode (RRDE) was used to elucidate rates and mechanisms of the EC reactions of the selected ICMs. Experiments were carried at varying hydrodynamic conditions, concentrations of iopamidol, diatrizoate, natural organic matter (NOM) and model compounds (resorcinol, catechol, guaiacol) which were used to examine interactions between products of the EC reduction of ICMs and halogenation-active species. The data showed that iopamidol and diatrizoate were EC-reduced at potentials -0.45 V vs. s.c.e. In the range of potentials -0.65 to -0.85 V their reduction was mass transfer-controlled. The presence of NOM and model compounds did not affect the EC reduction of iopamidol and diatrizoate but active iodine species formed as a result of the EC-induced transformations of these ICMs reacted readily with NOM and model compounds. These data provide more insight into the nature of generation of iodine-containing by-products in the case of reductive degradation of ICMs.

Herein, we developed a self-assembled micelle system to decompose/defluorinate HFPO-TA (an alternative perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs)) under ambient conditions by using three hydroxyphenylacetic acids (2-HPA, 3-HPA, 4-HPA) as hydrated electron precursors under UV irradiation, and using cationic surfactant cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) to construct the micelle structure. The formed HPAs/CTAB/HFPO-TA micelles were well characterized. All the three micelle systems could efficient destruct HFPO-TA, while 2-HPA/CTAB/HFPO-TA self-assembled micelle showed the best stability under a wide pH range from 4 to 10 attributing to its tighter micelle structure and lower surface charge density. A portable capacitive sensor was designed to assess frying oil degradation by measuring the changes in electrical capacitance. An interdigital electrode (IDE) was designed to be implemented as the testing probe (as IDEs are resistive to parasitic capacitance), together with an adjacent capacitive chip Pcap01 and a further microprocessor STM32, which were used as the data-processing elements. Experimental results demonstrated that viscosity could be a useful frying oil quality indicator, and also proved a preliminary correlation between IDE capacitance and oils&rsquo, total polar materials. This implies that IDE capacitance could be a suitable metric for conveniently assessing frying oil degradation. The designed capacitance sensor is light in weight, cost effective, and has excellent potential for simple, inexpensive, on-the-spot testing of the current quality of frying oil.

Porous carbon are excellent electrode materials for energy-storage devices. Here, we present a facile in-situ reduction method to improve the electrochemical performance of carbon materials by gold nanoparticles. The prepared porous carbon microspheres decorated with gold-nanoparticle had a 3D honeycomb-like structure with a high specific surface area of about 1635 m2 g−1, confirmed by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. The electrochemical performance of as-synthesized porous carbon microspheres was exemplified as electrode materials for supercapacitor with a high specific capacitance of 440 F g−1 at a current density of 0.5 A g−1, and excellent cycling stability with a capacitance retention of 100% after 2000 cycles at 10 A g−1 in 6 M KOH electrolyte. Our method opened a new direction for the gold-nanoparticle-decorated synthesis of porous carbon microspheres and could be further applied to synthesize porous carbon microspheres with various nanoparticle decorations for numerous applications as energy storage devices, enhanced absorption materials, and catalytical sites.

The transformation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) during various disinfection processes has raised great concerns due to the generation of carcinogenic disinfection by-products (DBPs). Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation is an effective method for drinking water disinfection, during which DOM undergoes changes in functional groups and molecular weight. In this study, the spectrophotometric titration and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) determination were employed to investigate the changes in oxygenated groups and weight-averaged molecular weight (Mw) of two typical DOM during UV irradiation. The differential absorbance spectra (DAS) of DOM could be deconvoluted into six Gaussian bands. The change of relative band intensity was attributed to the change of oxygenated groups (carboxylic and phenolic groups), which was confirmed by combining DAS data and revised Non-Ideal Competitive Adsorption -Donnan model. The GPC result demonstrated that the Mw of DOM decreased after UV disinfection. Moreover, a linear correlation between Mw and the intensity of deconvoluted Gaussian band from DAS was established, which might be served as an alternative approach to estimate Mw and predict the hydrophobicity and DBPs formation potential of DOM in drinking water treatment and monitoring.

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are a class of highly persistent contaminants with high bioaccumulation and toxicity. Our previous studies showed that perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) can be completely defluorinated under UV irradiation in organo-montmorillonite/indole acetic acid (IAA) system. However, there is still lack of information for the degradation mechanism and the test for wastewater treatment. Here, we systematically investigated the defluorination reaction in the presence of different organo-montmorillonites and found that the degradation process was apparently controlled by the configuration of surfactants. In hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium (HDTMA)-modified montmorillonite, HDTMA exists as a tilt conformation and isolated clay interlayer from the aqueous solution, protecting hydrated electrons generated by photo-irradiation of IAA from quenching by oxygen. Defluorination hydrogenation process was the dominant degradation pathway. While in poly-4-vinylpyridine-co-styrene (PVPcoS)-modified montmorillonite, due to the multiple charges of PVPcoS, a flat conformation parallel to clay surface was expected. Hydroxyl radicals, which were generated by the reaction of hydrated electrons with oxygen molecules diffused into clay interlayer, are also involved in the degradation process. Our results further demonstrate that mixture modified montmorillonite could combine the advantages of both modifications, thus showing superior reactivity even for actual industrial wastewater without any pretreatment. The low survival of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) makes the treatment of this disease one of the most challenging task in modern medicine. Here, by mining a large-scale cancer genome atlas data set of pancreatic cancer tissues, we identified 21 long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) that significantly associated with overall survival in patients with PDAC (P < .01). Further analysis revealed that 8 lncRNAs turned out to be independently correlated with patients' overall survival, and the risk score could be calculated based on their expression. To obtain a better predicting power, we integrated lncRNA data with a total of 410 differently expressed messenger RNAs (mRNAs) screened from PDAC and normal tissues in gene expression omnibus (GEO) database. The integration resulted in a much better panel including 8 lncRNAs (RP3.470B24.5, CTA.941F9.9, RP11.557H15.3, LINC00960, AP000479.1, LINC00635, LINC00636, and AC073133.1) and 8 mRNAs (DHRS9, ONECUT1, OR8D4, MT1M, TCN1, MMP9, DPYSL3, and TTN) to predict prognosis. A functional evaluation showed that these lncRNAs might play roles in pancreatic secretion, cell adhesion, and proteolysis. Using normal and pancreatic cancer cell lines, we confirmed that a majority of identified lncRNAs and mRNAs showed altered expressions in pancreatic cancer cells. Especially, LINC01589, LINC00960, TCN1, and MT1M showed a profoundly increased expression in pancreatic cancer cells, which suggests their potentially important role in pancreatic cancer. The results of our work indicate that lncRNAs have vital roles in PADC and provide new insights to integrate multiple kinds of markers in clinical practices.

The hierarchically porous carbons derived from corn straw with a certain graphitization degree are synthesized through a simple two-step method involving hydrothermal carbonization and KOH activation. The pore structure and electrochemical performance of the hierarchically porous carbons are closely related to the mass ratio of hydrothermal carbon vs. KOH. Hierarchically porous carbon-1 (mass ratio of hydrothermal carbon vs. KOH is 1:1) presents an optimal specific capacitance of 285 F g−1 at a current density of 0.5 A g−1 and an excellent cycling stability with a high capacitance retention of 91.3% after 2000 charge/discharge cycles. These qualities are superior to those of other bio-based carbon materials because hierarchically porous carbon-1 exhibits a rich pore structure and a large specific surface area (1229 m2 g−1). Moreover, symmetric supercapacitor studies show the good capacitance and excellent stability and rate capability of hierarchically porous carbon-1. The results indicate that a proper activation ratio contributes to a satisfactory electrochemical performance and that corn straw-derived hierarchically porous carbons are promising candidates as electrode materials for supercapacitors.

The amino modification montmorillonite was prepared using the cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide as modifier by the microwave irradiation and common heating method. According to the analysis of infrared spectra, scanning electron microscope and specific surface area, it is found that the larger amount of amino modifier has entered effectively into the layer of montmorillonite under the condition of microwave irradiation, so it has the bigger pore size, the smaller particle, more obvious layered structure and the thinner layer thickness. At the same time, according to the capture example of carbon dioxide, it is found that the capture amount of microwave amino modification montmorillonite is the biggest, and it is 150 mg/g.
