1. Essential normality of quotient modules vs. Hilbert-Schmidtness of submodules in $H^2(\mathbb D^2)$

Abstract

In the present paper, we prove that all the quotient modules in $H^2(\mathbb D^2)$, associated to the finitely generated submodules containing a distinguished homogenous polynomial, are essentially normal, which is the first result on the essential normality of non-algebraic quotient modules in $H^2(\mathbb D^2)$. Moreover, we obtain the equivalence of the essential normality of a quotient module and the Hilbert-Schmidtness of its associated submodule in $H^2(\mathbb D^2)$, in the case that the submodule contains a distinguished homogenous polynomial. As an application, we prove that each finitely generated submodule containing a polynomial is Hilbert-Schmidt, which partially gives an affirmative answer to the conjecture of Yang \cite{Ya3}.

8. Dynamics of a droplet in shear flow by smoothed particle hydrodynamics

Abstract

We employ a multi-phase smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method to study droplet dynamics in shear flow. With an extensive range of Reynolds number, capillary number, wall confinement, and density/viscosity ratio between the droplet and the matrix fluid, we are able to investigate systematically the droplet dynamics such as deformation and breakup. We conduct the majority of the simulations in two dimensions due to economical computations, while perform a few representative simulations in three dimensions to corroborate the former. Comparison between current results and those in literature indicates that the SPH method adopted has an excellent accuracy and is capable of simulating scenarios with large density or/and viscosity ratios. We generate slices of phase diagram in five dimensions, scopes of which are unprecedented. Based on the phase diagram, critical capillary numbers can be identified on the boundary of different states. As a realistic application, we perform simulations with actual parameters of water droplet in air flow to predict the critical conditions of breakup, which is crucial in the context of atomization., Comment: 33 pages, 20 figures

Abstract

We introduce a Grassmannian structure for a class of quotient Hilbert modules and attack the polydisc version of Arveson-Douglas conjecture associated to distinguished varieties. More interestingly, we obtain an operator-theoretic characterization of distinguished varieties in the bidisk in terms of essential normality of the quotient modules. As an application, we study the K-homology of the boundary of distinguished variety.

27. Stereotactic body radiation therapy in patients with centrally located hepatocellular carcinoma: A retrospective, single-arm, multi-center study

Abstract

Centrally located hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is difficult to be radically resected due to its special location close to major hepatic vessels. Thus, we aimed to assess whether stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) can be an effective and safe approach for centrally located HCC. This retrospective study included 172 patients with centrally located HCC who were treated with SBRT. Overall survival (OS) was analyzed as the primary endpoint. Rates of progression-free survival (PFS), local control, intrahepatic relapse, extrahepatic metastasis and toxicities were analyzed as secondary endpoints. The OS rates of 1-, 3-, and 5-year were 97.7%, 86.7%, and 76.3%, respectively. The PFS/local control rates of 1-, 3-, and 5-year were 94.1%/98.2%, 76.8%/94.9%, and 59.3%/92.3%, respectively. The cumulative incidence of intrahepatic relapse/extrahepatic metastases of 1-, 3-, and 5-year were 3.7%/2.9%, 25.0%/7.4%, and 33.3%/9.8%, respectively. Both univariate and multivariate analyses revealed that patients received BED10 at 100 Gy or more had better OS. Radiation-related adverse events were mild to moderate according to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, and no toxicities over grade 3 were observed. Patients with centrally located HCC in our cohort who received SBRT had similar OS and PFS rates compared to those reported in literatures who received surgery with neoadjuvant or adjuvant intensity-modulated radiation therapy. These results indicate that SBRT is an effective and well-tolerated method for patients with centrally located HCC, suggesting that it may serve as a reasonable alternative treatment for these kind of patients.

39. Therapeutic effects of two types of interbody fusions on degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis in the elderly based on spinal pelvic anatomy and lumbar spondylolisthesis mechanics

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) and minimally invasive transforminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) on degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DLS) in the elderly based on spinal pelvic anatomy and lumbar spondylolisthesis mechanics. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 122 elderly patients with DLS who underwent surgical treatment in Cangzhou Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine from April 2020 to March 2022. Fifty-nine patients who received OLIF surgery were as OLIF group, while 63 patients who received MIS-TLIF surgery were as MIS-TLIF group. The clinical data of operation, pre-operation, immediately after operation and 12 months after operation were collected from two groups of patients, including the spondylolisthesis parameters ［intervertebral height (DH), local kyphosis angle (SK), lumbar spondylolisthesis rate (SP), spondylolisthesis angle (SA)］, lumbar pelvic anatomical parameters ［L1 distance between the center of the vertebral body and the perpendicular line of the sacrum (LASD), lumbar lordosis angle (LL), sacral inclination angle (SS), pelvic inclination angle (PT) and pelvic incidence angle (PI)］. Visual Analogue Scale for Pain (VAS) score and the Oswestry Dysfunction Index (ODI) were used to assesse pain perception and lumbar function. Results: Compared with the MIS-TLIF group, the OLIF group had shorter operative time, hospital stay and incision length, less intraoperative bleeding and postoperative drainage flow (P＜0.01). In immediate period and 1 year after surgery compared to preoperative levels, both groups of patients showed an increase in DH, a decrease in SK, SP and SA (P0.05); the VAS score and ODI decreased significantly (P＜0.05). At the same time point after surgery, the OLIF group had a larger DH and a smaller SK compared with the MIS-TLIF group (P＜0.01), and there was no significant difference in other mechanical parameters of spondylolisthesis， lumbar pelvic anatomy parameters, VAS score and ODI between the two groups (P＞0.05). Conclusion: OLIF and MIS-TLIF have good improvement effects on the spine pelvic anatomy, mechanical parameters of lumbar spondylolisthesis, pain degree, and lumbar function in elderly patients with DLS, and the effects are similar, but when using OLIF, the operation time, hospitalization time, and incision length are shorter, and the intraoperative blood loss and postoperative drainage are less, which has obvious advantages.
