This study conducted an in-depth analysis of the sediment dynamics in the lower reaches of the Changhua River and its estuary on Hainan Island. Through field collection of topographic data and sediment sampling, combined with advanced computational techniques, the study explored the transport pathways and depositional patterns of sediments. The grain size trend analysis (GSTA) method was utilized, in conjunction with the Flemming triangle diagram method, to classify the dynamic environment of the sediments. Furthermore, hydrodynamic modeling results were integrated to further analyze the transport trends of the sediments. The study revealed that the sediment types in the research area are complex, primarily consisting of gravelly sand and sandy gravel, indicating a generally coarse sedimentary environment in the region. The sediments in the lower reaches of the Changhua River generally transport towards the south and southwest (in the direction of Beili Bay). The net sediment transport directions inferred from the GSTA model are largely consistent with the Eulerian residual flow patterns, especially in the offshore area, where discrepancies are observed in the nearshore zone. The nearshore transport is influenced by the combined effects of alongshore currents, residual flows, and river inputs, while the offshore transport exhibits a shift from the northwest to southwest directions, reflecting the regional circulation patterns. In recent decades, freak waves, characterized by their unusual high amplitude, sharp crest, and concentrated energy, have attracted researchers' attention due to their potential threat to marine structures. Green-water loads caused by freak waves can be significant and may lead to local damage to the ship structures. Therefore, this paper focuses on the study of green-water loads and examines the structural responses of ship bow structures under the influence of the green-water loads caused by freak waves. Firstly, a three-dimensional numerical wave tank is established in which the superposition model is used to generate freak waves. Validations on the freak-wave generation, ship motion response and the wave loading are carried out to verify the present solvers. The simulation on the interaction between the freak wave and the ship are conducted to obtain the interaction process and green-water loads. Secondly, a finite element (FEM) model of the ship bow is built, on which the green-water loads are applied to calculate the structural responses. Finally, the displacement and stress of the deck and breakwater structures are analyzed. It is found that green water events caused by freak waves can generate enormous impact forces on the bow deck and breakwater, resulting in severe structural responses and even possible damage to the structures. Submarine piggyback pipeline is an important tool for oil and gas transport, especially, in the marginal oil field. When the scour happens in the seabed, the pipeline slides easily, which may cause the pipeline failure. The dynamic slope angle is one of the most important characteristics of the scour. In this work, the dynamic slope angles of the sandy seabed under piggyback pipelines in steady flow are investigated experimentally and numerically in detail. The physical experiments are conducted in an annular flume and the numerical simulations are carried out using a two-phase flow model which is resolved by the finite volume method (FVM). In the numerical model, the free surface is tracked by the volume of fluid (VOF), and both bed and suspended loads are considered in the scour module. Depending on the comparison and convergence analysis, the numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental results. The results indicate that the dynamic slope angle is significantly affected by the incoming flow velocity, gap-ratio, spacing-ratio and pipe diameter. With the reduction of gap-ratio and space-ratio, the upstream dynamic slope angle α increases slightly, but the downstream dynamic slope angle β decreases. With the increase of the grain Reynolds number, the angle α increases slightly, but the angle β decreases severely.
