1. Active Support of Inverters for Improving Short-Term Voltage Security in 100% IBRsPenetrated Power Systems

Abstract

Due to the energy crisis and environmental pollution, the installed capacity of inverter-based resources (IBRs) in power grids is rapidly increasing, and grid-following control (GFL) is the most prevalent at present. Meanwhile, grid-forming control-based (GFM) devices have been installed in the grid to provide active support for frequency and voltage. In the future GFL devices combined with GFM will be promising, especially in power systems with high penetration or 100% IBRs. When a short-circuit fault occurs in the grid, the controlled current source characteristic of the GFL devices leads to insufficient dynamic voltage support (DVS), while the GFM devices usually reduce the internal voltage to limit the current. Thus, deep voltage sags and undesired disconnections of IBRs may occur. Moreover, due to the dispersed locations and the control strategies' diversity of IBRs, the voltage support of different devices may not be fully coordinated, which is not conducive to short-term voltage security (STVS). To address this issue, a control scheme based on the simulation of transient characteristics of synchronous machines (SMs) is proposed. Then, a new fault ride-through strategy (FRT) is proposed based on the characteristic differences between GFL and GFM devices, and an optimization model of multi-device control parameters is formulated to meet the short-term voltage security constraints (SVSCs) and device capacity constraints. Finally, a fast solution method based on analytical modeling is proposed for the model. Test results based on the doublegenerator-one-load system, the IEEE 14-bus system, and other systems of different sizes show that the proposed method can effectively enhance the active support capability of GFL and GFM to the grid voltage, and avoid the large-scale disconnection of IBRs, Comment: 10 pages, 13 figures

3. Short-Term Voltage Security Constrained UC to Prevent Trip Faults in High Wind Power Penetrated Power Systems

Abstract

For high wind power-penetrated power systems, the multiple renewable energy station short-circuit ratio (MRSCR) is often insufficient due to weak grid structures. Additionally, transient voltage sag/overvoltage issues may cause trip faults of wind turbines (WTs). Due to the time delay in WTs' controllers, it is difficult for WTs alone to meet the reactive power demands in different stages of the transient process. Some synchronous machines (SMs) must be retained through unit commitment (UC) scheduling to improve MRSCR and prevent trip faults of WTs. The MRSCR and short-term voltage security constrained-UC model is a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem with differential algebraic equations (DAEs) and symbolic matrix inversion, which is intractable to solve. Based on the dynamic characteristics of different devices, the original model is simplified as a general MINLP model without DAEs. Then, generalized Benders decomposition is applied to improve the solution efficiency. The relaxed MRSCR constraints are formulated in the master problem to improve the convergence, and the precise MRSCR constraints are formulated in the subproblems to consider the impact of voltage profiles. 20. The Effect of a Caffeine and Nicotine Combination on Nicotine Withdrawal Syndrome in Mice.

Abstract

Nicotine dependence is an important cause of excessive exposure to tobacco combustion compounds in most smokers. Nicotine replacement therapy is the main method to treat nicotine dependence, but it still has its shortcomings, such as the inability to mitigate withdrawal effects and limited applicability. It has been hypothesized that a combination of low-dose nicotine and caffeine could achieve the same psychological stimulation effect as a high dose of nicotine without causing nicotine withdrawal effects. To establish a model of nicotine dependence, male C57BL/6J mice were subcutaneously injected four times a day with nicotine (2 mg/kg) for 15 days and fed with water containing nicotine at the same time. They were randomly divided into four groups. After 24 h of withdrawal, different groups were injected with saline, nicotine (0.25 mg/kg or 0.1 mg/kg), or nicotine (0.1 mg/kg) and caffeine (20 mg/kg). Behavioral and physiological changes were evaluated by an assessment of physical signs, open field tests, elevated plus maze experiments, forced swimming tests, hot plate tests, and new-object-recognition tests. The changes in dopamine release in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and ventral tegmental area (VTA) in the midbrain were analyzed using ELISA. The results showed that a combination of caffeine and nicotine could effectively relieve nicotine withdrawal syndrome, increase movement ability and pain thresholds, reduce anxiety and depression, enhance memory and cognitive ability, and increase the level of dopamine release in the PFC and VTA. Thus, caffeine combined with nicotine has potential as a stable and effective treatment option to help humans with smoking cessation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

45. Satellite Unsupervised Anomaly Detection Based on Deconvolution-Reconstructed Temporal Convolutional Autoencoder

Abstract

Anomaly detection for orbiting satellites has become a paramount research focus in the aerospace domain. Data-driven methodologies, employing high-dimensional telemetry data, have exhibited significant potential for timely anomaly detection without the need for pre-existing models or rules. In this paper, we introduce a novel satellite anomaly detection method, the Deconvolution-reconstructed Temporal Convolutional Autoencoder (DRTCAE), which utilizes preprocessed telemetry data. The DRTCAE consists of a convolutional encoder and a deconvolutional decoder, each leveraging the parallelism of stacked Advanced Dilated Causal Convolutional (ADCC) blocks. This innovative architecture facilitates efficient multi-scale nonlinear transformations, which are crucial for extracting time-dependent features from various telemetry data sources and enabling accurate anomaly detection. Through extensive experiments with telemetry data from the Zhuhai-1 OVS3A satellite and an unspecified GEO satellite, our findings demonstrate that the DRTCAE-based approach outperforms traditional multivariate regression techniques. In conclusion, our results underscore the DRTCAE as an exceptionally proficient method for detecting anomalies in orbiting satellites, thereby contributing to the improvement of overall reliability and safety in space missions.

46. Satellite Early Anomaly Detection Using an Advanced Transformer Architecture for Non-Stationary Telemetry Data

Abstract

Data-driven methodologies are indispensable for early satellite anomaly detection. However, their effectiveness in capturing temporal dependencies within non-stationary telemetry data is still not ideal. In the field of satellite anomaly detection using reconstruction theory, this limitation can make it unclear whether the distribution shifts of reconstruction errors are caused by inadequate training or the actual emergence of real anomalies. To address these challenges, we propose the Seasonal Decomposition Cross Attention Transformer (SDCA-Former), a new Transformer architecture specifically designed to effectively extract temporal dependencies in non-stationary satellite telemetry data, thereby enabling more precise early warning of satellite anomalies. Firstly, building upon the foundational architecture of the Vanilla Transformer, the SDCA-Former integrates a series of enhancements, including the Temporal Convolutional Network-based Position Encoding (TCNPE), Encoder architecture refinements, and the Decoder utilizing SDCA modules. Secondly, we developed a comprehensive satellite anomaly detection framework centered on the SDCA-Former, including technical components such as telemetry data feature engineering, anomaly scoring, and determination of anomaly thresholds. Lastly, we verified the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method on a dataset composed of telemetry data from a Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellite. Notably, our approach achieved an early warning for anomalies up to four months in advance.
