1. Risk Scenario Generation for Autonomous Driving Systems based on Causal Bayesian Networks

Abstract

Advancements in Autonomous Driving Systems (ADS) have brought significant benefits, but also raised concerns regarding their safety. Virtual tests are common practices to ensure the safety of ADS because they are more efficient and safer compared to field operational tests. However, capturing the complex dynamics of real-world driving environments and effectively generating risk scenarios for testing is challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel paradigm shift towards utilizing Causal Bayesian Networks (CBN) for scenario generation in ADS. The CBN is built and validated using Maryland accident data, providing a deeper insight into the myriad factors influencing autonomous driving behaviors. Based on the constructed CBN, we propose an algorithm that significantly enhances the process of risk scenario generation, leading to more effective and safer ADS. An end-to-end testing framework for ADS is established utilizing the CARLA simulator. Through experiments, we successfully generated 89 high-risk scenarios from 5 seed scenarios, outperforming baseline methods in terms of time and iterations required., Comment: 10 pages

Abstract

Intelligent Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS) represent a specialized form of Cyber-Physical System (CPS) that incorporates intelligent components, notably Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL), to undertake multifaceted tasks encompassing perception, decision-making, and control. The utilization of DRL for decision-making facilitates dynamic interaction with the environment, generating control actions aimed at maximizing cumulative rewards. Nevertheless, the inherent uncertainty of the operational environment and the intricate nature of ICPS necessitate exploration within complex and dynamic state spaces during the learning phase. DRL confronts challenges in terms of efficiency, generalization capabilities, and data scarcity during decision-making process. In response to these challenges, we propose an innovative abstract modeling approach grounded in spatial-temporal value semantics, capturing the evolution in the distribution of semantic value across time and space. A semantics-based abstraction is introduced to construct an abstract Markov Decision Process (MDP) for the DRL learning process. Furthermore, optimization techniques for abstraction are delineated, aiming to refine the abstract model and mitigate semantic gaps between abstract and concrete states. The efficacy of the abstract modeling is assessed through the evaluation and analysis of the abstract MDP model using PRISM. Abstract

Pucheng district is a part of the Wuyi Mountain polymetallic metallogenic belt, which is constituted by Archean-Proterozoic metamorphic basements and Mesozoic volcanic-sedimentary covers. Uranium deposits are formed as volcanic-hosted and structural controls. In this study, the hybrid data-driven methods of logistic regression (LR) and weights of evidence (WofE) were applied for the mineral potential mapping of uranium in the Pucheng district. Evidential layers such as volcanic stratum, structure, igneous rock, alteration and radioactive anomaly were used in the mineral prospectivity analyses. The results show that the data-driven methods can not only measure the relative importance of each type of geological feature in uranium controls but also delineate prospective grounds for uranium exploration. The receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve and under the ROC curve (AUC) were applied to measure the performance of the prospectivity models. The data-driven models are highly capable of mapping uranium prospectivity because AUC is close to 1. The results show that more than 90% of the known uranium deposits occur in regions with high probability. LR performs a little better than WofE in this area. Background Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a signaling phospholipid involved in pathophysiologic progression of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) through its roles in endothelial barrier function and immune modulation. We hypothesized that decreased serum S1P level is associated with the clinical outcomes of ARDS and polymorphisms in the S1P gene are associated with serum S1P levels. Methods This multicenter prospective study includes ARDS patients and healthy blood donors as controls. Serum S1P levels were quantified using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) becomes a global pandemic in 2020. Early identification of severe ill patients is a top priority for clinicians. We aimed to describe clinical features and risk factors of severe-critically ill patients with COVID-19 in Jiangsu Province. This multi-centered retrospective study collected the information of 631 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized at 28 authorized hospitals in Jiangsu province from January 23, 2019 to March 13, 2020. A total of 583 adult patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 were enrolled for final analysis, including 84 severe-critically ill patients and 499 mild-moderate patients. Median age of the severe-critically ill patients was 57.0 years old (interquartile range, 49.0–65.8), and 50 (59.5%) were males. Multisystemic laboratory abnormalities were observed on admission for severe-critically ill patients. These patients showed more noticeable radiologic abnormalities and more coexisting health issues as compared to the mild-moderate patients. Most of the severe-critically ill COVID-19 patients became deteriorated in 2 weeks after diagnosis. Age, D-dimer, and lymphocytes were independently associated with the progression of severe-critically illness. Older age, higher D-dimer levels and less lymphocyte counts on admission are potential risk factors for COVID-19 patients to develop into severe and critically illness.

Abstract

Hyperlenses based on metamaterials can be applied to subwavelength imaging in the lightwave band. In this letter, we demonstrate both through simulations and experimentally verified results that our proposed half-cylindrical shaped hyperlens can be used for super-resolution microwave focusing in a TE mode. Based on split ring resonators, the hyperlens satisfies a hyperbolic dispersion relationship. Simulations demonstrate that the focused spot size and position are insensitive to the rotation angle of the hyperlens around its geometric center. Experimental results show that a focused spot size 1/3 of the vacuum wavelength is achieved in the microwave band.
