• Background and Aims Abscisic acid (ABA) is a well-studied phytohormone demonstrated to be involved in sub-sets of stress responses in plants, such as iron (Fe) deficiency and phosphorus (P) deficiency in Arabidopsis. However, whether ABA is involved in P deficiency in rice has not been frequently studied. The present study was undertaken to investigate the mechanism underlying ABA-aggravated P deficiency in rice (Oryza sativa). • Results P deficiency decreased ABA accumulation rapidly (within 1 h) in the roots. Exogenous ABA negatively regulated root and shoot soluble P contents by decreasing pectin content, inhibiting P deficiency-induced increases in pectin methylesterase activity and expression of the phosphate transporter gene-OsPT6, thereby decreasing the re-utilization of P from the cell wall and its translocation to the shoot. Moreover, neither the nitric oxide (NO) donor sodium nitroprusside nor ethylene precursor 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid had any effect on ABA accumulation, and application of ABA or the ABA inhibitor fluridone also had no effect on NO production and ethylene emission. • Conclusions Under P deficiency, NO levels increase as quickly as ABA levels decrease, to inhibit both the ABAinduced reduction of pectin contents for the re-utilization of cell wall P and the ABA-induced down-regulation of OsPT6 for the translocation of P from roots to shoots. Overall, our results provide novel information indicating that the reduction of ABA under P deficiency is a very important pathway in the re-utilization of cell wall P in rice under P-deficient conditions, which should be a very effective mechanism for plant survival under P deficiency stress for common agronomic practice. Background: Timely recognition of futile recanalization might enable a prompter response and thus improve outcomes in patients receiving successful thrombectomy. This study aims to evaluate whether postoperative fibrinogen‐to‐albumin ratio (FAR) could act as an indicator of futile recanalization. Methods: This is a single‐center, retrospective analysis of patients with acute anterior circulation large‐vessel occlusion and successful thrombectomy between May 2019 and June 2022. FAR was defined as postoperative blood levels of fibrinogen divided by those of albumin, and dichotomized into high and low levels based on the Youden index. Futile recanalization was defined as patients achieving a successful recanalization with a modified Rankin Scale score of 3–6 at 90 days. Multivariable logistic regression was used to assess the association of FAR with futile recanalization. Results: A total of 255 patients were enrolled, amongst which 87 patients (34.1%) had high postoperative FAR. Futile recanalization was more prevalent among patients with high FAR compared to those with low FAR (74.7% vs. 53.0%, p =.001). After adjusting for potential confounders, high postoperative FAR was found to independently correspond with the occurrence of futile recanalization (adjusted OR 2.40, 95%CI 1.18–4.87, p =.015). This association was consistently observed regardless of prior antithrombotic therapy, treatment of intravenous thrombolysis, occlusion site, time from symptom onset to groin puncture, and reperfusion status. Conclusion: Our findings support high postoperative FAR serving as an indicator of futile recanalization in patients with anterior circulation large‐vessel occlusion and successful thrombectomy. Functionalized graphene oxide (FGO) was produced by reacting graphene oxide nanosheets with vinyl trimethoxy silane (VTMS). The results confirmed the attachment of VTMS molecules to the surface of GO sheets by Si-O-C bonding. The introduction of VTMS molecules led to an excellent dispersibility in tetrahydrofuran and to the complete exfoliation of FGO with a thickness of about 1.19 nm. Meanwhile, FGO/silicone polymer composites were prepared by solution blending method. The incorporation of 0.5 wt% of FGO in silicone polymer improved remarkably the thermal stability, tensile strength, and thermal conductivity of the silicone polymer composite, due to the homogeneous dispersion of FGO in the composites as well as to the strong interfacial adhesion with silicone polymer matrix. Tensile strength and thermal conductivity of the FGO/silicone polymer composite were increased by 95.6 and 78.3 %, respectively, with the addition of 0.5 wt% FGO. The 5 % weight loss temperature of the composite at 0.5 wt% FGO loading was detected 26.1 °C higher than that of silicone polymer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Glucuronoxylan (GX), an important component of hemicellulose in the cell wall, appears to affect aluminium (Al) sensitivity in plants. To investigate the role of GX in cell-wall-localized xylan, we examined the Arabidopsis thaliana parvus mutant in detail. This mutant lacks α-D-glucuronic acid (GlcA) side chains in GX and has greater resistance to Al stress than wild-type (WT) plants. The parvus mutant accumulated lower levels of Al in its roots and cell walls than WT despite having cell wall pectin content and pectin methylesterase (PME) activity similar to those of WT. Our results suggest that the altered properties of hemicellulose in the mutant contribute to its decreased Al accumulation. Although we observed almost no differences in hemicellulose content between parvus and WT under control conditions, less Al was retained in parvus hemicellulose than in WT. This observation is consistent with the finding that GlcA substitutions in WT GX, but not mutant GX, were increased under Al stress. Taken together, these results suggest that the modulation of GlcA levels in GX affects Al resistance by influencing the Al binding capacity of the root cell wall in Arabidopsis. Functionalized graphene (FG) was prepared in one step by treating graphene oxide (GO) successively with hexadecyltrimethoxysilane and triethylamine. The FG sheets were subsequently assembled into a thin film by vacuum extraction filtering. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy were employed to confirm the reduction and silane functionalization of GO to be simultaneously completed during the treatment. The presence of the long hexadecyl chain made the FG hydrophobic. The graphene film showed a high surface roughness, which consisted of many randomly stacked flakes, exhibiting a contact angle of up to 128.1°. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
