Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are cost-effective alternatives to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), but their low energy density remains a challenge. Current electrode designs fail to simultaneously achieve high areal loading, high active content, and superior performance. In response, this work introduces an ideal electrode structure, featuring a continuous conductive network with active particles securely trapped in the absence of binder, fabricated using a universal technique that combines electrospinning and electrospraying (co-ESP). We found that the particle size must be larger than the network's pores for optimised performance, an aspect overlooked in previous research. The free-standing co-ESP Na2V3(PO4)3 (NVP) cathodes demonstrated state-of-the-art 296 mg cm-2 areal loading with 97.5 wt.% active content, as well as remarkable rate-performance and cycling stability. Co-ESP full cells showed uncompromised energy and power densities (231.6 Wh kg-1 and 7152.6 W kg-1), leading among reported SIBs with industry-relevant areal loadings. Not everyone who enrolls in college will leave with a certificate or degree, but the number of people who drop out or take a break is much higher than experts previously believed. In December 2013, there were 29 million people with some college education but no degree. That number jumped to 36 million by December of 2018, according to a new report from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center[1]. It is imperative to understand the underlying factors contributing to student withdrawal and to assist decision-makers to identify effective strategies to prevent it. By analyzing the characteristics and educational pathways of the stopout student population, our aim is to provide actionable insights that can benefit institutions facing similar challenges. Eastern Michigan University (EMU) faces significant challenges in student retention, with approximately 55% of its undergraduate students not completing their degrees within six years. As an institution committed to student success, EMU conducted a comprehensive study of student withdrawals to understand the influencing factors. And the paper revealed a high correlation between certain factors and withdrawals, even in the early stages of university attendance. Based on these findings, we developed a predictive model that employs artificial intelligence techniques to assess the potential risk that students abandon their studies. Bismuth oxyselenide (Bi$_2$O$_2$Se), a novel quasi-2D charge-carrying semiconductor, is hailed as one of the best emerging platforms for the next generation semiconductor devices. Recent efforts on developing diverse Bi$_2$O$_2$Se heterojunctions have produced extensive potential applications in electronics and optoelectronics. In-depth understanding of the band alignment and especially interface dynamics is, however, still challenging. In this work, a comprehensive experimental investigation on the band alignment is performed by a high-resolution X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (HRXPS), and the properties of interface states are also fully discussed. The results show that the ultrathin film Bi$_2$O$_2$Se grown on SrTiO$_3$ (TiO$_2$ (001) termination) exhibits Type-I (straddling gap) band alignment with a valence band offset (VBO) of about 1.77\pm0.04 eV and conduction band offset (CBO) of about 0.68\pm0.04 eV. However, further considering the contribution of the interface states, the bands on the interface present a herringbone configuration due to sizable build-in electric fields, which is significantly different from the conventional band alignment. In this sense, our results provide an insightful guidance to the development of high-efficiency electronic and optoelectronic devices, specifically of the devices where the charge transfer is highly sensitive to interface states.

There is a hidden energy in tennis, which cannot be seen or touched. It is the force that controls the flow of the game and is present in all types of matches. This mysterious force is Momentum. This study introduces an evaluation model that synergizes the Entropy Weight Method (EWM) and Gray Relation Analysis (GRA) to quantify momentum's impact on match outcomes. Empirical validation was conducted through Mann-Whitney U and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests, which yielded p values of 0.0043 and 0.00128,respectively. These results underscore the non-random association between momentum shifts and match outcomes, highlighting the critical role of momentum in tennis. Otherwise, our investigation foucus is the creation of a predictive model that combines the advanced machine learning algorithm XGBoost with the SHAP framework. This model enables precise predictions of match swings with exceptional accuracy (0.999013 for multiple matches and 0.992738 for finals). The model's ability to identify the influence of specific factors on match dynamics,such as bilateral distance run during points, demonstrates its prowess.The model's generalizability was thoroughly evaluated using datasets from the four Grand Slam tournaments. The results demonstrate its remarkable adaptability to different match scenarios,despite minor variations in predictive accuracy. It offers strategic insights that can help players effectively respond to opponents' shifts in momentum,enhancing their competitive edge.

As a novel and promising 2D material, bismuth oxyselenide (Bi$_2$O$_2$Se) has demonstrated significant potential to overcome existing technical barriers in various electronic device applications, due to its unique physical properties like high symmetry, adjustable electronic structure, ultra-high electron mobility. However, the rapid growth of Bi$_2$O$_2$Se films down to a few atomic layers with precise control remains a significant challenge. In this work, the growth of two-dimensional (2D) Bi$_2$O$_2$Se thin films by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method is systematically investigated. By controlling temperature, oxygen pressure, laser energy density and laser emission frequency, we successfully prepare atomically thin and flat Bi$_2$O$_2$Se (001) thin films on the (001) surface of SrTiO3. Importantly, we provide a fundamental and unique perspective toward understanding the growth process of atomically thin and flat Bi$_2$O$_2$Se films, and the growth process can be primarily summarized into four steps: i) anisotropic non-spontaneous nucleation preferentially along the step roots; ii) monolayer Bi$_2$O$_2$Se nanosheets expanding across the surrounding area, and eventually covering the entire STO substrate step; iii) vertical growth of Bi$_2$O$_2$Se monolayer in a 2D Frank-van der Merwe (FM) epitaxial growth, and iv) with a layer-by-layer 2D FM growth mode, ultimately producing an atomically flat and epitaxially aligned thin film. Moreover, the combined results of the crystallinity quality, surface morphology and the chemical states manifest the successful PLD-growth of high-quality Bi$_2$O$_2$Se films in a controllable and fast mode.

Realistic emotional voice conversion (EVC) aims to enhance emotional diversity of converted audios, making the synthesized voices more authentic and natural. To this end, we propose Emotional Intensity-aware Network (EINet), dynamically adjusting intonation and rhythm by incorporating controllable emotional intensity. To better capture nuances in emotional intensity, we go beyond mere distance measurements among acoustic features. Instead, an emotion evaluator is utilized to precisely quantify speaker's emotional state. By employing an intensity mapper, intensity pseudo-labels are obtained to bridge the gap between emotional speech intensity modeling and run-time conversion. To ensure high speech quality while retaining controllability, an emotion renderer is used for combining linguistic features smoothly with manipulated emotional features at frame level. Furthermore, we employ a duration predictor to facilitate adaptive prediction of rhythm changes condition on specifying intensity value. The emotion recognition has attracted more attention in recent decades. Although significant progress has been made in the recognition technology of the seven basic emotions, existing methods are still hard to tackle compound emotion recognition that occurred commonly in practical application. This article introduces our achievements in the 7th Field Emotion Behavior Analysis (ABAW) competition. In the competition, we selected pre trained ResNet18 and Transformer, which have been widely validated, as the basic network framework. Considering the continuity of emotions over time, we propose a time pyramid structure network for frame level emotion prediction. Furthermore. At the same time, in order to address the lack of data in composite emotion recognition, we utilized fine-grained labels from the DFEW database to construct training data for emotion categories in competitions. The availability of massive vehicle trajectory data enables the modeling of road-network constrained movement as travel-cost distributions rather than just single-valued costs, thereby capturing the inherent uncertainty of movement and enabling improved routing quality. Thus, stochastic routing has been studied extensively in the edge-centric model, where such costs are assigned to the edges in a graph representation of a road network. However, as this model still disregards important information in trajectories and fails to capture dependencies among cost distributions, a path-centric model, where costs are assigned to paths, has been proposed that captures dependencies better and provides an improved foundation for routing. Unfortunately, when applied in this model, existing routing algorithms are inefficient due to two shortcomings that we eliminate. First, when exploring candidate paths, existing algorithms only consider the costs of candidate paths from the source to intermediate vertices, while disregarding the costs of travel from the intermediate vertices to the destination, causing many non-competitive paths to be explored. We propose two heuristics for estimating the cost from an intermediate vertex to the destination, thus improving routing efficiency. Second, the edge-centric model relies on stochastic dominance-based pruning to improve efficiency. This pruning assumes that costs are independent and is therefore inapplicable in the path-centric model that takes dependencies into account. We introduce a notion of virtual path that effectively enables stochastic dominance-based pruning in the path-based model, thus further improving efficiency. Empirical studies using two real-world trajectory sets offer insight into the properties of the proposed solution, indicating that it enables efficient stochastic routing in the path-centric model.

Foundation models have become prominent in computer vision, achieving notable success in various tasks. However, their effectiveness largely depends on pre-training with extensive datasets. Applying foundation models directly to small datasets of capsule endoscopy images from scratch is challenging. Pre-training on broad, general vision datasets is crucial for successfully fine-tuning our model for specific tasks. In this work, we introduce a simplified approach called Adapt foundation models with a low-rank adaptation (LoRA) technique for easier customization. Our method, inspired by the DINOv2 foundation model, applies low-rank adaptation learning to tailor foundation models for capsule endoscopy diagnosis effectively. Unlike traditional fine-tuning methods, our strategy includes LoRA layers designed to absorb specific surgical domain knowledge. During the training process, we keep the main model (the backbone encoder) fixed and focus on optimizing the LoRA layers and the disease classification component. We tested our method on two publicly available datasets for capsule endoscopy disease classification. The results were impressive, with our model achieving 97.75% accuracy on the Kvasir-Capsule dataset and 98.81% on the Kvasirv2 dataset. Our solution demonstrates that foundation models can be adeptly adapted for capsule endoscopy diagnosis, highlighting that mere reliance on straightforward fine-tuning or pre-trained models from general computer vision tasks is inadequate for such specific applications., Comment: To appear in ICBIR 2024

Predicting student performance under varying data distributions is a challenging task. This study proposes a method to improve prediction accuracy by employing transfer learning techniques on the dataset with varying distributions. Using datasets from mathematics and Portuguese language courses, the model was trained and evaluated to enhance its generalization ability and prediction accuracy. The datasets used in this study were sourced from Kaggle, comprising a variety of attributes such as demographic details, social factors, and academic performance. The methodology involves using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) combined with transfer learning, where some layer weights were progressively frozen, and the remaining layers were fine-tuned. Experimental results demonstrated that this approach excels in reducing Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Error (MAE), while improving the coefficient of determination (R2). The model was initially trained on a subset with a larger sample size and subsequently fine-tuned on another subset. This method effectively facilitated knowledge transfer, enhancing model performance on tasks with limited data. The results demonstrate that freezing more layers improves performance for complex and noisy data, whereas freezing fewer layers is more effective for simpler and larger datasets. This study highlights the potential of transfer learning in predicting student performance and suggests future research to explore domain adaptation techniques for unlabeled datasets.

Developing efficient quantum computing algorithms is crucial for addressing computationally challenging problems across various fields. In this paper, we introduce a novel quantum XZ24 algorithm, designed for efficiently computing the eigen-energy spectra of any quantum systems. The algorithm employs an auxiliary qubit as a control qubit to execute a pair of time-reversing real-time evolutions of Hamiltonian $\hat{H}$ on the target qubits. The reference state wavefunction $|\phi_0 \rangle$ is stored in target qubits. When the control qubit (i.e., the auxiliary qubit) is in the 0 (1) state, the $e^{-i\hat{H}t/2} (e^{i\hat{H}t/2})$ evolution operator is applied. By combining Hadamard gates and phase gates on the auxiliary qubit, information about $\langle \psi_0 | \cos(\hat{H}t) | \psi_0 \rangle$ can be obtained from the output auxiliary qubit state. Theoretically, applying the Fourier transformation to the $\langle \psi_0 | \cos(\hat{H}t) | \psi_0 \rangle$ signal can resolve the eigen-energies of the Hamiltonian in the spectrum. We provide theoretical analysis and numerical simulations of the algorithm, demonstrating its advantages in computational efficiency and accuracy. Compared to existing quantum methods, the new algorithm stands out for its remarkably low measurement cost. For quantum systems of any complexity, only a single auxiliary qubit needs to be measured, resulting in a measurement complexity of $O(1)$. Moreover, this method can simultaneously obtain multiple eigen-energies, dependent on the reference state. Enrollment projection is a critical aspect of university management, guiding decisions related to resource allocation and revenue forecasting. However, despite its importance, there remains a lack of transparency regarding the methodologies utilized by many institutions. This paper presents an innovative approach to enrollment projection using Markov Chain modeling, drawing upon a case study conducted at Eastern Michigan University (EMU). Markov Chain modeling emerges as a promising approach for enrollment projection, offering precise predictions based on historical trends. This paper outlines the implementation of Enhanced Markov Chain modeling at EMU, detailing the methodology used to compute transition probabilities and evaluate model performance. Despite challenges posed by external uncertainties such as the COVID-19 pandemic, Markov Chain modeling has demonstrated impressive accuracy, with an average difference of less than 1 percent between predicted and actual enrollments. The paper concludes with a discussion of future directions and opportunities for collaboration among institutions.

With the proliferation of GPS-equipped edge devices, huge trajectory data is generated and accumulated in various domains, motivating a variety of urban applications. Due to the limited acquisition capabilities of edge devices, a lot of trajectories are recorded at a low sampling rate, which may lead to the effectiveness drop of urban applications. We aim to recover a high-sampled trajectory based on the low-sampled trajectory in free space, i.e., without road network information, to enhance the usability of trajectory data and support urban applications more effectively. Recent proposals targeting trajectory recovery often assume that trajectories are available at a central location, which fail to handle the decentralized trajectories and hurt privacy. To bridge the gap between decentralized training and trajectory recovery, we propose a lightweight framework, LightTR, for federated trajectory recovery based on a client-server architecture, while keeping the data decentralized and private in each client/platform center (e.g., each data center of a company). Specifically, considering the limited processing capabilities of edge devices, LightTR encompasses a light local trajectory embedding module that offers improved computational efficiency without compromising its feature extraction capabilities. LightTR also features a meta-knowledge enhanced local-global training scheme to reduce communication costs between the server and clients and thus further offer efficiency improvement. We study the insulated conductivity problem which involves two adjacent convex insulators embedded in a bounded domain. It is known that the gradient of solutions may blow up as the distance between the two inclusions tends to zero. However, the sharpness of the blow up rate for general convex insulator case in dimension $n\geq3$ has remained open. The novelty of this paper is that we answer this problem affirmatively by establishing a pointwise upper bound of the gradient for general convex insulators, along with a corresponding lower bound that achieves optimal blow up rates. These rates are associated with the first nonzero eigenvalue of an elliptic operator determined by the geometry of insulators. The widespread deployment of wireless and mobile devices results in a proliferation of spatio-temporal data that is used in applications, e.g., traffic prediction, human mobility mining, and air quality prediction, where spatio-temporal prediction is often essential to enable safety, predictability, or reliability. Many recent proposals that target deep learning for spatio-temporal prediction suffer from so-called catastrophic forgetting, where previously learned knowledge is entirely forgotten when new data arrives. Such proposals may experience deteriorating prediction performance when applied in settings where data streams into the system. To enable spatio-temporal prediction on streaming data, we propose a unified replay-based continuous learning framework. The framework includes a replay buffer of previously learned samples that are fused with training data using a spatio-temporal mixup mechanism in order to preserve historical knowledge effectively, thus avoiding catastrophic forgetting. To enable holistic representation preservation, the framework also integrates a general spatio-temporal autoencoder with a carefully designed spatio-temporal simple siamese (STSimSiam) network that aims to ensure prediction accuracy and avoid holistic feature loss by means of mutual information maximization. The framework further encompasses five spatio-temporal data augmentation methods to enhance the performance of STSimSiam. With a high-loss resonator supplying the non-Hermiticity, we study the Energy level degeneracy and quantum state evolution in tunable coupling superconducting quantum circuit. The qubit's effective energy level and damping rate can be continually tuned in superconducting circuit, and the positions and numbers of level degenerate points are controllable. The efficient of quantum state exchange and the asymmetry of quantum state evolution can be tuned with non-hermitian and nonreciprocal coupling between two qubits. We develop a general framework for studying the spin alignment $\rho_{00}$ for flavorless vector mesons by using the gauge/gravity duality. Focusing on the dilepton production through vector meson decay, we derive the relation between production rates at each spin channel and meson's spectral function, which can be evaluated by holographic models for a strongly coupled system. As examples, we study $\rho_{00}$ for $J/\psi$ and $\phi$ mesons, induced by the relative motion to a thermal background, within the soft-wall model. We show that $\rho_{00}$ in the helicity frame for $J/\psi$ and $\phi$ mesons have positive and negative deviations from 1/3 at $T=150$ MeV, respectively, which consequently leads to different properties for their global spin alignments., Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures

We study the mass spectra and spin alignment of vector meson $J/\psi$ in a thermal magnetized background using a generalized theoretical framework based on gauge/gravity duality. Utilizing a soft wall model for the QGP background and a massive vector field for the $J/\psi$ meson, we delve into the meson's spectral function and spin parameters $(\lambda_{\theta},\, \lambda_\varphi,\,\lambda_{\theta\varphi})$ for different cases, assessing their response to variations in magnetic field strength, momentum, and temperature. We initially examine scenarios where a meson's momentum aligns parallel to the magnetic field in helicity frame. Our results reveal a magnetic field-induced positive $\lambda_\theta^\text{H}$ for low meson momentum, transitioning to negative with increased momentum. As a comparison, we also study the case of momentum perpendicular to the magnetic field and find the direction of magnetic field does not affect the qualitative behavior for the $eB$-dependence of $\lambda_\theta^\text{H}$. Moreover, we apply our model to real heavy-ion collisions for three different spin quantization directions. Cyber-physical system sensors emit multivariate time series (MTS) that monitor physical system processes. Such time series generally capture unknown numbers of states, each with a different duration, that correspond to specific conditions, e.g., "walking" or "running" in human-activity monitoring. Unsupervised identification of such states facilitates storage and processing in subsequent data analyses, as well as enhances result interpretability. Existing state-detection proposals face three challenges. First, they introduce substantial computational overhead, rendering them impractical in resourceconstrained or streaming settings. Second, although state-of-the-art (SOTA) proposals employ contrastive learning for representation, insufficient attention to false negatives hampers model convergence and accuracy. Third, SOTA proposals predominantly only emphasize offline non-streaming deployment, we highlight an urgent need to optimize online streaming scenarios. We propose E2Usd that enables efficient-yet-accurate unsupervised MTS state detection. E2Usd exploits a Fast Fourier Transform-based Time Series Compressor (fftCompress) and a Decomposed Dual-view Embedding Module (ddEM) that together encode input MTSs at low computational overhead. Additionally, we propose a False Negative Cancellation Contrastive Learning method (fnccLearning) to counteract the effects of false negatives and to achieve more cluster-friendly embedding spaces. To reduce computational overhead further in streaming settings, we introduce Adaptive Threshold Detection (adaTD). Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), because of its emergent abilities, has empowered various fields, one typical of which is large language models (LLMs). One of the typical application fields of Generative AI is large language models (LLMs), and the natural language understanding capability of LLM is dramatically improved when compared with conventional AI-based methods. The natural language understanding capability has always been a barrier to the intent recognition performance of the Knowledge-Based-Question-and-Answer (KBQA) system, which arises from linguistic diversity and the newly appeared intent. Conventional AI-based methods for intent recognition can be divided into semantic parsing-based and model-based approaches. However, both of the methods suffer from limited resources in intent recognition. To address this issue, we propose a novel KBQA system based on a Large Language Model(LLM) and BERT (LB-KBQA). With the help of generative AI, our proposed method could detect newly appeared intent and acquire new knowledge. In experiments on financial domain question answering, our model has demonstrated superior effectiveness.

We investigate a square-lattice architecture of superconducting transmon qubits with inter-qubit interactions mediated by inductive couplers. Therein, the inductive couling between the qubit and couplers is suggested to be designed into the gradiometer form to intigimate the flux noise orginating from the environment. Via periodically modulating the couplers,the Abelian gauge potential, termed effective magnetic flux, can be synthesized artificially, making the system an excellent platform for simulating two-dimensional topological physics. In the simplest two-dimensional model, the double (or three-leg) ladder, the staggered vortex-Meissner phase transition different from that in the two-leg ladder can be found in the single-particle ground state as the effective magnetic flux varies. Besides, the large coupling ratio between the interleg and intraleg coupling strengths also makes the chiral current resemble squeezed sinusoidal functions. If the row number is further increased, the topological band structure anticipated at massive rows begins to occur even for a relatively small number of rows (ten or so for the considered parameters). This heralds a small circuit scale to observe the topological band. The edge state in the band gap is determined by the topological Chern number and can be calculated through integrating the Berry curvature with respect to the first Brillouin zone. Besides, we present a systematic method on how to measure the topological band structure based on time- and space-domain Frourier transformation of the wave function after properly excited. The result offers an avenue for simulating two-dimensional topological physics on the state-of-the-art superconducting quantum chips.

Cross-corpus speech emotion recognition (SER) aims to transfer emotional knowledge from a labeled source corpus to an unlabeled corpus. However, prior methods require access to source data during adaptation, which is unattainable in real-life scenarios due to data privacy protection concerns. This paper tackles a more practical task, namely source-free cross-corpus SER, where a pre-trained source model is adapted to the target domain without access to source data. To address the problem, we propose a novel method called emotion-aware contrastive adaptation network (ECAN). The core idea is to capture local neighborhood information between samples while considering the global class-level adaptation. Specifically, we propose a nearest neighbor contrastive learning to promote local emotion consistency among features of highly similar samples. Furthermore, relying solely on nearest neighborhoods may lead to ambiguous boundaries between clusters. Thus, we incorporate supervised contrastive learning to encourage greater separation between clusters representing different emotions, thereby facilitating improved class-level adaptation. Swin-Transformer has demonstrated remarkable success in computer vision by leveraging its hierarchical feature representation based on Transformer. In speech signals, emotional information is distributed across different scales of speech features, e.\,g., word, phrase, and utterance. Drawing above inspiration, this paper presents a hierarchical speech Transformer with shifted windows to aggregate multi-scale emotion features for speech emotion recognition (SER), called Speech Swin-Transformer. Specifically, we first divide the speech spectrogram into segment-level patches in the time domain, composed of multiple frame patches. These segment-level patches are then encoded using a stack of Swin blocks, in which a local window Transformer is utilized to explore local inter-frame emotional information across frame patches of each segment patch. After that, we also design a shifted window Transformer to compensate for patch correlations near the boundaries of segment patches. Finally, we employ a patch merging operation to aggregate segment-level emotional features for hierarchical speech representation by expanding the receptive field of Transformer from frame-level to segment-level.
