V606 Centauri (V606 Cen) is an early B-type close binary with an orbital period of 1.4950935\,d and the complete light curves are very difficult to be observed on the ground. By analyzing the unbroken and continuous light curve obtained by TESS, we found that it is a marginal contact binary with a very low fill-out factor of about 2\%. The O-C diagram of V606 Cen is constructed for the first time based on the 118.8-years eclipse times. It is found that the O-C diagram shows a downward parabolic change together with a cyclic oscillation with an amplitude of 0.0544\, d and a period of 88.8\, yr. The downward parabolic variation reveals a linear period decrease at a rate of $dP/dt = -2.06 \times{10^{-7}} d \cdot yr^{-1}$ that can be explained by the mass transfer from the more massive component to the less massive one. Both the marginal contact configuration and the continuous period decrease suggest that V606 Cen is a newly formed contact binary via Case A mass transfer. Meanwhile, the cyclic change in the O-C diagram can be explained by the Light-Travel Time Effect via the presence of a third body. The lowest mass of the tertiary companion is determined as M$_{3}$ = 4.51($\pm0.38$)M$_{\odot}$ that is orbiting around the central eclipsing binary in a nearly circular orbit (e=0.32). All the results indicate that V606 Cen is a newly formed massive contact binary and just reaches the contact configuration during the mass transfer in a hierarchical triple system.

About 3196 EA-type binaries (EAs) were observed by LAMOST by June 16, 2017 and their spectral types were derived. Meanwhile stellar atmospheric parameters of 2020 EAs were determined. In the paper, those EAs are catalogued and their physical properties and evolutionary states are investigated. The period distribution of EAs suggests that the period limit of tidal locking for the close binaries is about 6 days. It is found that the metallicity of EAs is higher than that of EWs indicating that EAs are generally younger than EWs and they are the progenitors of EWs. The metallicities of long-period EWs (0.4 < P < 1 days) are the same as those of EAs with the same periods, while their values of Log (g) are usually smaller than those of EAs. These support the evolutionary process that EAs evolve into long-period EWs through the combination of angular momentum loss (AML) via magnetic braking and case A mass transfer. For short-period EWs, their metallicities are lower than those of EAs, while their gravitational accelerations are higher. These reveal that they may be formed from cool short-period EAs through AML via magnetic braking with little mass transfer. For some EWs with high metallicities, they may be contaminated by material from the evolution of unseen neutron stars and black holes or they have third bodies that may help them to form rapidly through a short timescale of pre-contact evolution. 1SWASP\,J162117.36$+$441254.2 was originally classified as an EW-type binary with a period of 0.20785\,days. However, it was detected to have undergone a stellar outburst on June 3, 2016. Although the system was latter classified as a cataclysmic variable (CV) and the event was attributed as a dwarf-nova outburst, the physical reason is still unknown. This binary has been monitored photometrically since April 19, 2016 and many light curves were obtained before, during and after the outburst. Those light and color curves observed before the outburst indicate that the system is a special CV. The white dwarf is not accreting material from the secondary and there are no accretion disks surrounding the white dwarf. By comparing the light curves obtained from April 19 to September 14, 2016, it was found that magnetic activity of the secondary is associated with the outburst. We show strong evidence that the $L_1$ region on the secondary was heavily spotted before and after the outburst and thus quench the mass transfer, while the outburst is produced by a sudden mass accretion of the white dwarf. These results suggest that J162117 is a good astrophysical laboratory to study stellar magnetic activity and its influences on CV mass transfer and mass accretion., Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Numerous EWs were discovered by several deep photometric survey and there are about 40785 EW-type binary systems listed in the international variable star index (VSX) by March 13, 2017. 7938 of them were observed by LAMOST by November 30, 2016 and their spectral types were given. Stellar atmospheric parameters of 5363 EW-type binary stars were determined based on good spectroscopic observations. In the paper, those EWs were catalogued and their properties are analyzed. The distributions of the orbital period (P), the effect temperature (T), the gravitational acceleration (Log(g)), the metallicity ([Fe/H]) and the radial velocity (RV) are presented for those observed EW-type systems. It is shown that about 80.6\% sample stars have metallicity below zero indicating that EW-type systems are old stellar population. This is in agreement with the the conclusion that the EW binaries are formed from moderately close binaries through angular momentum loss via magnetic braking that takes a few hundred million to a few billion years. The unusual high metallicities of a few percent of EWs may be caused by contaminating of material from the evolution of unseen neutron stars and black holes in the systems. The correlations between the orbital period and the effect temperature, the gravitational acceleration and the metallicity are presented and their scatters are mainly caused by (i) the presence of the third bodies and (ii) the wrong determined periods sometimes. It is shown that some EW contain evolved component stars and the physical properties of EWs are mainly depending on their orbital periods. It is found that the extremely short-period EWs may be older than their long-period cousins because they have lower metallicities. This reveals that they have a longer timescale of pre-contact evolution and their formation and evolution are mainly driven by angular momentum loss via magnetic braking., Comment: 20 pages, 16 figures; Accepted for publication in Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics (RAA)

The first V Rc Ic bands light curves of MQ UMa are presented and analyzed using the Wilson-Devinney (W-D) program. It is discovered that MQ UMa is an A-subtype contact binary with a high fill-out (f=82 %) and a low mass ratio (q = 0:195), which indicates that it is in the late evolutionary stage of latetype tidal-locked binary stars. The mass of the primary and secondary stars are estimated and the evolutionary status of the two components are placed in the H-R diagram. The W-D solutions also indicates that MQ UMa may be a triple system with an F5V type additional component. A sample of sixteen high fillout, low mass ratio overcontact binaries are collected and their possible evolution scenarios are discussed. Using the five times of light minimum recently observed together with those collected from literatures, the authors find that the observedcalculate (O-C) curve exhibits a cyclic period variation. The cyclic period change also reveals the presence of a tertiary component, which may play an important role in the formation and evolution of this binary system by drawing angular momentum from the central system., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures

We report here the discovery of an optical flare observed in R band from the red-dwarf eclipsing binary CU Cnc whose component stars are at the upper boundary of full convection (M1=0.43 and M2=0.4M0, M0 is the solar mass). The amplitude of the flare is the largest among those detected in R band (~0.52mag) and the duration time is about 73 minutes. As those observed on the Sun, quasi-periodic oscillations were seen during and after the flare. Three more R-band flares were found by follow up monitoring. In total, this binary was monitored photometrically by using R filter for 79.9 hours, which reveals a R-band flare rate about 0.05 flares per hour. These detections together with other strong chromospheric and coronal activities, i.e., very strong H_alpha and H_beta emission features and an EUV and X-ray source, indicate that it has very strong magnetic activity. Therefore, the apparent faintness (~1.4 magnitude in V) of CU Cnc compared with other single red dwarfs of the same mass can be plausibly explained by the high coverage of the dark spots., Comment: It will be published in MNRAS

Using the precise times of mid-egress of the eclipsing polar HU Aqr, we discovered that this polar is orbited by two or more giant planets. The two planets detected so far have masses of at least 5.9 and 4.5\,M_{Jup}. Their respective distances from the polar are 3.6 AU and 5.4 AU with periods of 6.54 and 11.96 years, respectively. The observed rate of period decrease derived from the downward parabolic change in O-C curve is a factor 15 larger than the value expected for gravitational radiation. This indicates that it may be only a part of a long-period cyclic variation, revealing the presence of one more planet. It is interesting to note that the two detected circumbinary planets follow the Titus-Bode law of solar planets with n=5 and 6. Density dependent parametrization models of the nucleon-meson effective couplings, including the isovector scalar \delta-field, are applied to asymmetric nuclear matter. The nuclear equation of state and the neutron star properties are studied in an effective Lagrangian density approach, using the relativistic mean field hadron theory. It is known that the introduction of a \delta-meson in the constant coupling scheme leads to an increase of the symmetry energy at high density and so to larger neutron star masses, in a pure nucleon-lepton scheme. We use here a more microscopic density dependent model of the nucleon-meson couplings to study the properties of neutron star matter and to re-examine the \delta-field effects in asymmetric nuclear matter. Our calculations show that, due to the increase of the effective \delta coupling at high density, with density dependent couplings the neutron star masses in fact can be even reduced., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

Angle resolved photoemission experiments by Kanigel, et al (cond-mat/0605499) [Nature Physics 2, 447 (2006)] have made a remarkable observation that low energy electronic excitations in the normal state of underdoped cuprate superconductors exist on open ``Fermi arcs'' instead of a closed Fermi surface. These arcs shrink upon cooling, with the arc length appearing to extrapolate to nodal points at zero temperature. We show that this striking non-Fermi liquid behavior could result from the underdoped normal state above Tc lying in the vicinity of a quantum phase transition between a d-wave superconductor and a correlated insulating phase., Comment: 4+ pages, 4 eps figures (significantly revised draft including spectral function plots - submitted to PRB)

In this paper, we report a systematic study of the heaviest nuclei within the relativistic mean field (RMF) model. By comparing our results with those of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov method (HFB) and the finite range droplet model (FRDM), the stability and the shape of the heaviest nuclei are discussed. The theoretical predictions as well as the existing experimental data indicate that the experimentally synthesized superheavy nuclei are in between the fission stability line, the line connecting the nucleus with maximum binding energy per nucleon in each isotopic chain, and the $\beta$-stability line, the line connecting the nucleus with maximum binding energy per nucleon in each isobaric chain. It is shown that both the fission stability line and the $\beta$-stability line tend to be more proton rich in the superheavy region. Configuration-constrained calculations of potential-energy surfaces in even-even superheavy nuclei reveal systematically the existence at low excitation energies of multi-quasiparticle states with deformed axially symmetric shapes and large angular momenta. These results indicate the prevalence of long-lived, multi-quasiparticle isomers. In a quantal system, the ground state is usually more stable than the excited states. In contrast, in superheavy nuclei the multi-qausiparticle excitations decrease the probability for both fission and $\alpha$ decay, implying enhanced stability. Hence, the systematic occurrence of multi-qausiparticle isomers may become crucial for future production and study of even heavier nuclei. The three dimensional Total Routhian Surface (TRS) calculations are carried out for 64 nuclei between $70\leq A\leq 90$ to find triaxial superdeformed nuclei. The octupole strengths of $\beta$-stable nucleus $^{208}_{82}Pb_{126}$, a neutron skin nucleus $^{60}_{20}Ca_{40}$ and a neutron drip line nucleus $^{28}_{8}O_{20}$ are studied by using the self-consistent Hartree-Fock calculation plus the random phase approximation (RPA) with Skyrme interaction. The collective properties of low-lying excitations are analyzed by using particle-vibration coupling. The results show that the lowest isoscalar states above threshold in $^{60}_{20}Ca_{40}$ and $^{28}_{8}O_{20}$ are the superpositions of collective excitations and unperturbed transitions from bound state to nonresonance states. For these three nuclei, both the low-lying isoscalar states and giant isoscalar resonance carry isovector strength. The ratio B(IV)/B(IS) is checked. It is found that, for $^{208}_{82}Pb_{126}$, the ratios are equal to $(\frac{N-Z}{A})^2$ in good accuracy, while for $^{60}_{20}Ca_{40}$ and $^{28}_{8}O_{20}$, the ratios are much larger than $(\frac{N-Z}{A})^2$. This results from the excess neutrons with small binding energies in $^{60}_{20}Ca_{40}$ and $^{28}_{8}O_{20}$., Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures

Based on the quark propagator in the instanton dilute liquid approximation, we calculate analytically the quark condensate $<\bar{q}q>$, the mixed quark gluon condensate $g_{s}<\bar{q}G_{\mu\nu}\sigma^{\mu\nu}q>$ and the four quark condensate $<\bar{q} \Gamma q\bar{q} \Gamma q>$ at the mean field level in the framework of global color symmetry model. The numerical calculation shows that the values of these condensates are compatible with the ranges determined by other nonperturbative approaches. The mass spectra and binding radii of heavy quark bound states are studied on the basis of the reduced Bethe-Salpeter equation.
