The present study aimed at integrating two expression profile datasets to identify critical genes and potential drugs in CC.Materials and methods: Expression profiles, GSE7803 and GSE9750, were integrated using bioinformatics methods, including differentially expressed genes analysis, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis, and protein–protein interaction (PPI) network construction. Subsequently, survival analysis was performed among the key genes using Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis websites. Connectivity Map (CMap) was used to query potential drugs for CC.Results: A total of 145 upregulated genes and 135 downregulated genes in CC were identified. The functional changes of these differentially expressed genes related to CC were mainly associated with cell cycle, DNA replication, p53 signaling pathway, and oocyte meiosis. A PPI network was identified by STRING with 220 nodes and 2,111 edges. Thirteen key genes were identified as the intersecting genes of the enrichment pathways and the top 20 nodes in PPI network. Survival analysis revealed that high mRNA expression of MCM2, PCNA, and RFC4 was significantly associated with longer overall survival, and the survival was significantly better in the low-expression RRM2 group. Moreover, CMap predicted nine small molecules as possible adjuvant drugs to treat CC.Conclusion: Our study found key dysregulated genes involved in CC and potential drugs to combat it, which might provide insights into CC pathogenesis and might shed light on potential CC treatments. Polymeric materials pose potential fire hazards to both humans and property because of their intrinsic flammability and the toxic smoke generated by them upon burning. Lowering the risk by relying on traditional firefighting approaches is not timely and sufficient. Herein, analogous to wearing intelligent and responsive respirators, we introduced a universal smoke-suppression and flame-retardant strategy for flammable materials by forming a shield for protection and catalytic oxidation of smoke. Incorporating ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tripotassium salt dihydrate (EDTA-K 3 ·2H 2 O) into FPUF promotes rearrangement and cross-linking into char in the condensed phase during fire exposure. Additionally, the resulting alkali metal species act as active catalysts to further oxidize smoke, enhancing fire safety performance. Taking flexible polyurethane foam (FPUF) as an example, even in the absence of traditional flame-retardant elements, this foam demonstrates a significant reduction in specific smoke density (-54%) and total smoke release (-45%) for flexible polyurethane foam (FPUF), a high limiting oxygen index of 26.1%, rapid self-extinguishing performance, and robust overall mechanical properties. Moreover, this work offers exceptional fire protection for epoxy resin and waterborne polyurethane as well. Our work provides a facile strategy inspired by the protection of a respirator for high-performance firefighting.

Background: The cuff leak test (CLT) is an important tool to assess the risk of upper airway obstruction after extubation., Research Question: Does modified CLT approach have superior ability in predicting re-intubation compared with traditional method?, Study Design and Methods: This was a prospective, multicenter, randomized control trial. The primary end point was the incidence of the need for reintubation within 48 h after extubation. The secondary end points were the actual incidence of reintubation, the incidence of post-extubation stridor (PES), and the duration of invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV), etc. RESULT: There were totally 536 patients randomized to either modified CLT group (n = 268) or control group (n = 268). The incidence of reintubation within 48 h after extubation did not differ between the groups. PES within 24 h after extubation was more frequent in the modified CLT group than in the control group (5.22% vs. 1.49%; OR 0.275 [95% CI, 0.089-0.846]; P = 0.028). The IMV duration was shorter in the modified CLT group than in the control group (137 h [74, 218] vs. 159 h [95, 252]; OR 1.001 [95% CI, 1.000-1.002], P = 0.046). In the patients with IMV duration ≥6 days, the incidence of PES was 2.95% in modified CLT group and 0.74% in the control group (OR 0.203 [95% CI, 0.042-0.975], P = 0.048)., Interpretation: Compared with the control group, the modified CLT approach might better predict PES within 24 h after extubation, especially for the patients with IMV duration longer than 6 days, but it could not help decrease the reintubation incidence and mortality., Clinicaltrials: GOV: NCT05550220, Registered 19 September 2022., (Copyright © 2025. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease closely associated with Anoikis. The objective of this work was to discover novel transcriptome-based anoikis-related biomarkers and pathways for OA progression.The microarray datasets GSE114007 and GSE89408 were downloaded using the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. A collection of genes linked to anoikis has been collected from the GeneCards database. The intersection genes of the differential anoikis-related genes (DEARGs) were identified using a Venn diagram. Infiltration analyses were used to identify and study the differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Anoikis clustering was used to identify the DEGs. By using gene clustering, two OA subgroups were formed using the DEGs. GSE152805 was used to analyse OA cartilage on a single cell level. 10 DEARGs were identified by lasso analysis, and two Anoikis subtypes were constructed. MEgreen module was found in disease WGCNA analysis, and MEturquoise module was most significant in gene clusters WGCNA. The XGB, SVM, RF, and GLM models identified five hub genes (CDH2, SHCBP1, SCG2, C10orf10, P FKFB3), and the diagnostic model built using these five genes performed well in the training and validation cohorts. analysing single-cell RNA sequencing data from GSE152805, including 25,852 cells of 6 OA cartilage.

To address the current development requirements for multifunctional cotton fabrics, a phytic acid-induced flame-retardant hydrophobic coating containing nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and silicon (Si) was grafted on the surface of cotton fabrics using a facile step-by-step immersion method. The limiting oxygen index value improved to 31.2 %, decreasing to 26.7 % after 50 laundering cycles, while the fabric remained self-extinguishing effect in the vertical flammability test and showed a water contact angle of 126.1°. Cone calorimetry test showed that the modified fabric could not be ignited at the irradiation heat flux of 35 kW/m 2 . When the irradiation heat flux was raised to 50 kW/m 2 , there was a significant decline in the peak heat release rate of the modified cotton fabric, which decreased by 43.2 % to a remarkably low value of 114.0 kW/m 2 , indicating excellent flame-retardant properties. The analysis of the flame-retardant mechanism uncovered that the modified coating exhibited a significant dual flame-retardant mechanism involving both the gaseous phase and the condensed phase. Hearing sensitivity and noise protection are mediated and determined by negative feedback of the cochlear efferent system. Type II auditory nerves (ANs) innervate outer hair cells (OHCs) in the cochlea and provide an input to this efferent control. However, little is known about underlying channel information. Here, we report that ATP-gated P2x7 receptor had a predominant expression at type II ANs and the synaptic areas under inner hair cells and OHCs with lateral and medial olivocochlear efferent nerves. Knockout (KO) of P2x7 increased hearing sensitivity with enhanced acoustic startle response (ASR), auditory brainstem response (ABR), and cochlear microphonics (CM) by increasing OHC electromotility, an active cochlear amplifier in mammals. P2x7 KO also increased susceptibility to noise. Middle level noise exposure could impair active cochlear mechanics resulting in permanent hearing loss in P2x7 KO mice. These data demonstrate that P2x7 receptors have a critical role in type II AN function and the cochlear efferent system to control hearing sensitivity; deficiency of P2x7 receptors can impair the cochlear efferent suppression leading to hearing oversensitivity and susceptibility to noise.

Bio-based aerogels, which are poised as compelling thermal insulators, demand intricate synthesis procedures and have limited durability under harsh conditions. The integration of smart stimuli-response transitions in biomass aerogels holds promise as a solution, yet remains a challenge. Here, we introduce a pioneering strategy that employs reversible-gel-assisted ambient-pressure drying without organic solvents to craft multifunctional bio-based aerogels. By exploiting the thermally reversible gelling propensity of select biomasses, we anchor emulsified bubbles within cross-linked hydrogels, circumventing surface tension issues during mild drying. The resultant aerogels feature a robust porous matrix that is imbued with stable bubbles, yielding low thermal conductivity, high flame retardancy and robust resistance to diverse rigors. This innovative approach facilitates a paradigm shift in intelligent fire protection in which aerogels transition from robust to flexible in response to water stimuli, effectively shielding against thermal hazards and external forces. Flexible polyurethane foam (FPUF) is a ubiquitous material utilized in furniture cushions, mattresses, and various technical applications. Despite the widespread use, FPUF faces challenges in maintaining long-lasting flame retardancy and aging resistance, particularly in harsh environments, while retaining mechanical robustness. Here, we present a novel approach to address these issues by enhancing FPUF through multiple free-radical-trapping and hydrogen-bonding mechanisms. A hindered amine phosphorus-containing polyol (DTAP) was designed and chemically introduced into FPUF. The distinctive synergy between hindered amine and phosphorus-containing structures enables the formation of multiple hydrogen bonds with urethane, while also effectively capturing free radicals across a broad temperature spectrum. As a result, incorporating only 5.1 wt% of DTAP led to the material successfully passing vertical burning tests and witnessing notable enhancements in tensile strength, elongation at break, and tear strength. Even after enduring accelerated thermal aging for 168 hours, the foam maintained exceptional flame retardancy and mechanical properties. This study offers novel insights into material enhancement, simultaneously achieving outstanding long-lasting flame retardancy, toughness, and anti-aging performance.

With the drying and warming of the climate and irrational grazing, various types of grasslands in Inner Mongolia have been degraded to different degrees, and different management modes will inevitably affect the plant diversity and vegetation carbon stock of soil grasslands. To clarify the changes and influencing factors of plant diversity and carbon stock in different types of grasslands under different management modes, plant species composition, aboveground biomass, and vegetation carbon were analyzed based on 18 sentinel monitoring stations across three different types of grasslands in Inner Mongolia. The results showed that grazing increased the dominance of typical grassland and desert grassland, whereas meadow grassland decreased, and the evenness index and Shannon Wiener diversity index increased less in meadow grassland and desert grassland. Grazing decreased graminaceous biomass in meadow grassland and typical grassland, whereas it increased in desert grassland. Above-ground vegetation and below-ground root carbon stocks were much higher than those in grazing areas, 1.5 and 1.2 higher, respectively, but vegetation carbon stocks in long-term grazing sites were significantly lower than those in short-term grazing. Further, the structural equations showed that the effects of geographic location, climatic factors, and soil factors on the biomass and vegetation carbon stocks of the three grassland types differed significantly. The results can provide a reference for the ecologically sustainable development of grassland and the optimization of management mode.

Objective: To analyze the correlation between serum fibronectin 3 (Ficolin-3) levels and early severe bleeding in newly diagnosed acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) patients., Methods: A total of 125 patients with newly diagnosed APL admitted to Shanxi Bethune Hospital from January 2020 to August 2023 were selected. All patients were given all-trans retinoic acid+arsenic for induction therapy. The severe bleeding events within 30 days of induction therapy (assessed by WHO bleeding score, grade 0, grade 1 and grade 2 were no bleeding or mild bleeding, grade 3 and grade 4 were severe or fatal bleeding) were used as observation endpoints. The serum Ficolin-3 levels was dected by ELISA method, baseline data and other laboratory indicators were counted, and the correlation between serum Ficolin-3 levels and early severe bleeding in newly diagnosed APL patients was analyzed., Results: 23 out of 125 APL patients experienced early severe bleeding during induction therapy, including 13 cases of grade 3 bleeding and 10 cases of grade 4 bleeding. There were 102 cases of non-serious bleeding, including 30 cases of grade 0, 24 cases of grade 1 bleeding, and 48 cases of grade 2 bleeding. The proportion of serum promyelocytes, white blood cell count, and D-D level in the severe bleeding group were significantly higher than those in the non severe bleeding group ( P < 0.05), while the levels of PLT and FIB were significantly lower than those in the non-serious bleeding group ( P < 0.05). The serum Ficolin-3 levels in the severe bleeding group were significantly lower than those in the non severe bleeding group before treatment, days of treatment, 14 days of treatment, and 30 days of treatment ( P < 0.05). Confirmed by point two column correlation, serum Ficolin-3 levels were negatively correlated with early severe bleeding in newly diagnosed APL patients before treatment, 7 days, 14 days, and 30 days after treatment ( r values were -0.485, -0.397, -0.304, and -0.183, respectively). The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) graph of the subjects was drawn, and the results showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of serum Ficolin-3 levels before treatment and at 7 and 14 days after treatment for predicting early severe bleeding in newly diagnosed APL patients was greater than 0.7, all of which had certain predictive efficacy, and the serum Ficolin-3 level before treatment had the best predictive efficacy., Conclusion: The serum Ficolin-3 levels in newly diagnosed APL patients are associated with early severe bleeding, and the serum Ficolin-3 levels before treatment have a significant advantage in predicting early severe bleeding in newly diagnosed APL patients.

Polyurethane (PU) foams, pivotal in modern life, face challenges suh as fire hazards and environmental waste burdens. The current reliance of PU on potentially ecotoxic halogen-/phosphorus-based flame retardants impedes large-scale material recycling. Here, our demonstrated controllable catalytic cracking strategy, using cesium salts, enables self-evolving recycling of flame-retardant PU. The incorporation of cesium citrates facilitates efficient urethane bond cleavage at low temperatures (160 °C), promoting effective recycling, while encouraging pyrolytic rearrangement of isocyanates into char at high temperatures (300 °C) for enhanced PU fire safety. Even in the absence of halogen/phosphorus components, this foam exhibits a substantial increase in ignition time (+258.8%) and a significant reduction in total smoke release (-79%). This flame-retardant foam can be easily recycled into high-quality polyol under mild conditions, 60 °C lower than that for the pure foam. Notably, the trace amounts of cesium gathered in recycled polyols stimulate the regenerated PU to undergo self-evolution, improving both flame-retardancy and mechanical properties. Our controllable catalytic cracking strategy paves the way for the self-evolutionary recycling of high-performance firefighting materials.

Passive radiant cooling is a potentially sustainable thermal management strategy amid escalating global climate change. However, petrochemical-derived cooling materials often face efficiency challenges owing to the absorption of sunlight. We present an intrinsic photoluminescent biomass aerogel, which has a visible light reflectance exceeding 100%, that yields a large cooling effect. We discovered that DNA and gelatin aggregation into an ordered layered aerogel achieves a solar-weighted reflectance of 104.0% in visible light regions through fluorescence and phosphorescence. The cooling effect can reduce ambient temperatures by 16.0°C under high solar irradiance. In addition, the aerogel, efficiently produced at scale through water-welding, displays high reparability, recyclability, and biodegradability, completing an environmentally conscious life cycle. This biomass photoluminescence material is another tool for designing next-generation sustainable cooling materials.

Atmospheric drying method for fabricating aerogels is considered the most promising way for casting aerogels on a large scale. However, the organic solvent exchange, remaining environmental pollution risk, is a crucial step in mitigating the impact of surface tension during the atmospheric drying process, especially for wet gel formed through the alkoxy-derived sol-gel process, such as melamine-formaldehyde resin (MF) aerogel. Herein, a tough polymer-assisted in situ polymerization was proposed to fabricate MF resin aerogel with a combination of mechanical toughness and strength, enabling it to withstand the capillary force during water evaporation. The monolithic MF resin aerogel through the sol-gel method can be directly prepared without additional network strengthening or organic solvent exchange. The resulting MF resin aerogel exhibits a homogeneous as well as hierarchical structure with macropores and mesopores (~6 μm and ~5 nm), high compressive modulus of 31.8 MPa, self-extinguishing property, and high-temperature thermal insulation with 97 % heat decrease for butane flame combustion. Noise can induce hearing loss. In particularly, noise can induce cochlear synapse degeneration leading to hidden hearing loss, which is the most common type of hearing disorders in the clinic. Currently, there is no pharmacological treatment, particularly, no post-exposure (i.e., therapeutic) treatment available in the clinic. Here, we report that systematic administration of K + channel blockers before or after noise exposure could significantly attenuate NIHL and synapse degeneration. After systematic administration of a general K-channel blocker tetraethylammonium (TEA), the elevation of auditory brainstem response (ABR) thresholds after noise-exposure significantly reduced, and the active cochlear mechanics significantly improved. The therapeutic effect was further improved as the post-exposure administration time extending to 3 days. BK channel is a predominant K + channel in the inner hair cells. Systematic administration of a BK channel blocker GAL-021 after noise exposure also ameliorated hearing loss and improved hearing behavioral responses tested by acoustic startle response (ASR). Finally, both TEA and GAL-021 significantly attenuated noise-induced ribbon synapse degeneration. These data demonstrate that K + -channel blockers can prevent and treat NIHL and cochlear synapse degeneration. Our finding may aid in developing therapeutic strategies for post-exposure treatment of NIHL and synapse degeneration., Significance Statement: Noise is a common deafness factor affecting more 100 million people in the United States. So far, there is no pharmacological treatment available. We show here that administration of K + channel blockers after noise exposure could attenuate noise-induced hearing loss and synapse degeneration, and improved behavioral responses. This is the first time to real the K + channel blockers that could treat noise-induced hearing loss and cochlear synaptopathy after noise exposure.

Here, a novel multifunctional coating containing bio-based phytic acid (PA), L-glutamic acid (L-Glu), and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) is constructed by a simple soaking strategy, giving cotton fabrics excellent flame retardancy, washability, and antibacterial properties. The coating layer on the cotton surface was prepared via the electrostatic and hydrogen bonding between PA and L-Glu, accompanied by the interface polymerization between PA, L-Glu, and TMC. Among them, the limiting oxygen index value of the treated cotton fabrics (C 2 and C 2 -TMC) was as high as 40 %. During the vertical flammability test, both C 2 and C 2 -TMC cotton showed self-extinguished behavior with a short damaged length (≤50 mm). Remarkably, the LOI of C 2 -TMC sustained a high value (30 %) even after 300 laundering cycles, maintaining its self-extinguishing behavior in the vertical combustion test. Additionally, in the cone calorimetry test, peak heat release rate and total heat release of treated cotton were lower than control cotton. Surprisingly, after 30 or 60 laundering cycles, the C 2 -TMC cotton exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans due to the continuous exposure of PA and L-Glu. We report the picosecond spin current generation from the interface between a heavy metal and a vicinal antiferromagnet insulator Cr&#95;{2}O&#95;{3} by laser pulses at room temperature and zero magnetic field. It is converted into a detectable terahertz emission in the heavy metal via the inverse spin Hall effect. The vicinal interfaces are apparently the source of the picosecond spin current, as evidenced by the proportional terahertz signals to the vicinal angle. We attribute the origin of the spin current to the transient magnetic moment generated by an interfacial nonlinear magnetic-dipole difference-frequency generation. We propose a model based on the in-plane inversion symmetry breaking to quantitatively explain the terahertz intensity with respect to the angles of the laser polarization and the film azimuth. Our work opens new opportunities in antiferromagnetic and ultrafast spintronics by considering symmetry breaking.

The inherent flammability of most polymeric materials poses a significant fire hazard, leading to substantial property damage and loss of life. A universal flame-retardant protective coating is considered as a promising strategy to mitigate such risks; however, simultaneously achieving high transparency of the coatings remains a great challenge. Here, inspired by the moth eye effect, we designed a nanoporous structure into a protective coating that leverages a hydrophilic-hydrophobic interactive assembly facilitated by phosphoric acid protonated amino siloxane. The coating demonstrates robust adhesion to a diverse range of substrates, including but not limited to fabrics, foams, paper, and wood. As expected, its moth-eye-inspired nanoporous structure conferred a high visible light transparency of >97% and water vapor transmittance of 96%. The synergistic effect among phosphorus (P), nitrogen (N), and silicon (Si) largely enhanced the char-forming ability and restricted the decomposition of the coated substrates, which successfully endowed the coating with high fire-fighting performance. More importantly, for both flexible and rigid substrates, the coated samples all possessed great mechanical properties. This work provides a new insight for the design of protective coatings, particularly focusing on achieving high transparency.

Polymeric materials, rich in carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen elements, present substantial fire hazards to both human life and property due to their intrinsic flammability. Overcoming this challenge in the absence of any flame-retardant elements is a daunting task. Herein, we introduce an innovative strategy employing catalytic polymer auto-pyrolysis before combustion to proactively release CO 2 , akin to possessing responsive CO 2 fire extinguishing mechanisms. We demonstrate that potassium salts with strong nucleophilicity (such as potassium formate/malate) can transform conventional polyurethane foam into materials with fire safety through rearrangement. This transformation results in the rapid generation of a substantial volume of CO 2 , occurring before the onset of intense decomposition, effectively extinguishing fires. The inclusion of just 1.05 wt% potassium formate can significantly raise the limiting oxygen index of polyurethane foam to 26.5%, increase the time to ignition by 927%, and tremendously reduce smoke toxicity by 95%. The successful application of various potassium salts, combined with a comprehensive examination of the underlying mechanisms, underscores the viability of this strategy. Smart and dynamic electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials possess a remarkable capacity to modify their EMI shielding abilities, rendering them invaluable in various civil and military applications. However, the present response mechanism of switch-type EMI shielding materials is slightly restricted, as it primarily depends on continuous pressure induction, thereby resulting in concerns regarding their durability and reliability. Herein, for the first time, we demonstrate a novel method for achieving solvent-responsive, reversible switching, and robust EMI shielding capabilities using a controlled proton-reservoir ordered gel. The gel contains polyaniline (PANI) and sodium alginate (SA). Initially, SA acts as a proton reservoir for PANI in an aqueous system, enhancing the doping level of PANI and improving its electrical conductivity. Additionally, PANI and SA chains respond to diverse polar solvents, such as water, acetonitrile, ethanol, n -hexane, and air, inducing distinct conformations that affect the degree of PANI conjugation and electron migration along the chains. This process is reversible and non-destructive to the polymer chain, ensuring the effective and uncompromised performance of the EMI shielding switch. We can achieve precise and reversible tuning (on/off) of EMI shielding with different effectiveness levels by manipulating the solvents within the framework. This work opens a new solvent-stimuli avenue for the development of EMI shielding materials with reliable and intelligent on/off switching capabilities.

Efficient electrocatalysts capable of operating continuously at industrial ampere-level current densities are crucial for large-scale applications of electrocatalytic water decomposition for hydrogen production. However, long-term industrial overall water splitting using a single electrocatalyst remains a major challenge. Here, bimetallic polyphthalocyanine (FeCoPPc)-anchored Ru nanoclusters, an innovative electrocatalyst comprising the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) active Ru and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) active FeCoPPc, engineered for efficient overall water splitting are demonstrated. By density functional theory calculations and systematic experiments, the electrocatalytic coenhancement effect resulting from unique charge redistribution, which synergistically boosts the HER activity of Ru and the OER activity of FeCoPPc by optimizing the adsorption energy of intermediates, is unveiled. As a result, even at a large current density of 2.0 A cm -2 , the catalyst exhibits low overpotentials of 220 and 308 mV, respectively, for HER and OER. It exhibits excellent stability, requiring only 1.88 V of cell voltage to achieve a current density of 2.0 A cm -2 in a 6.0 m KOH electrolyte at 70 °C, with a remarkable operational stability of over 100 h. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), mainly comprising ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, is a group of gradually progressive diseases bringing significant mental anguish and imposes serious economic burdens. Interplay of genetic, environmental, and immunological factors have been implicated in its pathogenesis. Nutrients, as crucial environmental determinants, mainly encompassing carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and micronutrients, are closely related to the pathogenesis and development of IBD. Nutrition is essential for maintaining the dynamic balance of intestinal eco-environments to ensure intestinal barrier and immune homeostasis, while this balance can be disrupted easily by maladjusted nutrition. Research has firmly established that nutrition has the potential to shape the composition and function of gut microbiota to affect the disease course. Unhealthy diet and eating disorders lead to gut microbiota dysbiosis and further destroy the function of intestinal barrier such as the disruption of membrane integrity and increased permeability, thereby triggering intestinal inflammation. Notably, appropriate nutritional interventions, such as the Mediterranean diet, can positively modulate intestinal microecology, which may provide a promising strategy for future IBD prevention. In this review, we provide insights into the interplay between nutrition and gut microbiota and its effects on IBD and present some previously overlooked lines of evidence regarding the role of derived metabolites in IBD processes, such as trimethylamine N-oxide and imidazole propionate. Rational design and facile synthesis of efficient environmentally friendly all-inorganic lead-free halide perovskite catalysts are of great significance in photocatalytic CO 2 reduction. Aiming at photogenerated charge carrier separation and CO 2 reaction dynamics, in this paper, a CsCuCl 3 /Cu nanocrystals (NCs) heterojunction catalyst is designed and synthesized via a simple acid-etching solution process by using Cu 2 O as the sacrificed template. Due to the disproportionation reaction of Cu 2 O induced by concentrated hydrochloric acid, Cu NCs can be deposited onto the surface of CsCuCl 3 microcrystals directly and tightly. As revealed by photoelectrochemical analysis, in situ Fourier transform infrared spectra, etc., the Cu NCs contribute a lot to extracting photoelectrons of CsCuCl 3 to improve the charge separation efficiency, regulating the CO 2 adsorption and activation, and also stabilizing the reaction intermediates. Therefore, CsCuCl 3 /Cu heterojunction exhibits a total electron consumption rate of 58.77 µmol g -1 h -1 , which is 2.9-fold of that of single CsCuCl 3 . Moreover, high CH 4 selectivity of up to 92.7% is achieved, which is much higher than that of CsCuCl 3 (50.4%) and most lead-free halide perovskite-based catalysts. A novel approach for improving the flame retardancy, smoke suppression and mechanical properties of epoxy resins (EPs) has been proposed by incorporating functionalized hollow mesoporous silica microcapsules (SHP) loaded with phosphorous silane flame retardants (SCA) and coated with polydopamine (PDA) and transition metals. The proposed approach involves a multi-level structure that combines several mechanisms to enhance the flame-retardant properties of EP. The physical barrier provided by silica serves to impede heat and mass transfer during combustion, while the catalytic carbonization effect of phosphorus and transition metals promotes the formation of a protective char layer, which acts as a barrier to further flame propagation. Incorporating a low loading amount of 3 wt% SHP into the epoxy matrix resulted in EP/SHP-3 composites with significantly improved flame retardancy, as evidenced by a limiting oxygen index of 31.5% and a V-1 rating, in contrast to the values obtained for unmodified EP, which were 23.8% and no rating, respectively. In addition, cone calorimeter test (CCT) results indicated that the total heat release, peak heat release rate and total smoke production of EP/SHP-3 decreased by 18.2%, 25.2% and 18.4%, respectively. Moreover, the improved interfacial compatibility facilitated by polydopamine assists in the dispersion and compatibility of the SHP with the epoxy matrix, leading to better mechanical properties. Herein, the addition of 1 wt% SHP to EP significantly improved its mechanical performance, with a 16.7% increase in tensile strength and a 19.2% increase in impact strength. Ultrathin 2D porous carbon-based materials offer numerous fascinating electrical, catalytic, and mechanical properties, which hold great promise in various applications. However, it remains a formidable challenge to fabricate these materials with tunable morphology and composition by a simple synthesis strategy. Here, a facile one-step self-flowering method without purification and harsh conditions is reported for large-scale fabrication of high-quality ultrathin (≈1.5 nm) N-doped porous carbon nanosheets (NPC) and their composites. It is demonstrated that the layered tannic/oxamide (TA/oxamide) hybrid is spontaneously blown, exfoliated, bloomed, in situ pore-formed, and aromatized during pyrolysis to form flower-like aggregated NPC. This universal one-step self-flowering system is compatible with various precursors to construct multiscale NPC-based composites (Ru@NPC, ZnO@NPC, MoS 2 @NPC, Co@NPC, rGO@NPC, etc.). Notably, the programmable architecture enables NPC-based materials with excellent multifunctional performances, such as microwave absorption and hydrogen evolution. Depression exists with high prevalence and heavy disease burden. Stress events play a key role in the occurrence of depression, but the pathological mechanism has not been fully clarified by reason of the complexity and heterogeneity. In recent years, neuroinflammation as a pathological mechanism of depression has received extensive attention. The activated microglia is regarded as the marker of neuroinflammation, which is an important link of stress-induced depression. Stress might induce microglia activation through pattern recognition receptors(PRR), intestinal flora, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA) axis, and other pathways. Cross-talk between impaired microglia function and neurobiological factors such as inflammatory cytokines, serotonin metabolism, and neuroplasticity may lead to depression. At present, a large number of studies have proved that traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) plays an anti-depressive role by inhibiting microglia activation, which may be potential treatment strategies for depressive disorder. This paper reviewed the research progress of stress-induced microglia activation in depression and summarized the mechanism of TCM against depression with regard to microglia, hoping to provide experimental evidence and consideration for TCM against depression through microglia.

Heterostructure engineering has emerged as a promising approach for creating high-performance microwave absorption materials in various applications such as advanced communications, portable devices, and military fields. However, achieving strong electromagnetic wave attenuation, good impedance matching, and low density in a single heterostructure remains a significant challenge. Herein, a unique structural design strategy that employs a hollow structure coupled with gradient hierarchical heterostructures to achieve high-performance microwave absorption is proposed. MoS 2 nanosheets are uniformly grown onto the double-layered Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene@rGO hollow microspheres through self-assembly and sacrificial template techniques. Notably, the gradient hierarchical heterostructures, comprising a MoS 2 impedance matching layer, a reduced graphene oxide (rGO) lossy layer, and a Ti 3 C 2 T x MXene reflective layer, have demonstrated significant improvements in impedance matching and attenuation capabilities. Additionally, the incorporation of a hollow structure can further improve microwave absorption while reducing the overall composite density. The distinctive gradient hollow heterostructures enable Ti 3 C 2 T x @rGO@MoS 2 hollow microspheres with exceptional microwave absorption properties. The reflection loss value reaches as strong as -54.2 dB at a thin thickness of 1.8 mm, and the effective absorption bandwidth covers the whole Ku-band, up to 6.04 GHz. This work provides an exquisite perspective on heterostructure engineering design for developing next-generation microwave absorbers.

Epoxy resins (EPs) are known for their durability, strength, and adhesive properties, which make them a versatile and popular material for use in a variety of applications, including chemical anticorrosion, small electronic devices, etc. However, EP is highly flammable due to its chemical nature. In this study, phosphorus-containing organic-inorganic hybrid flame retardant (APOP) was synthesized by introducing 9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10‑phosphaphenathrene (DOPO) into cage-like octaminopropyl silsesquioxane (OA-POSS) via Schiff base reaction. The improved flame retardancy of EP was achieved by combining the physical barrier of inorganic Si-O-Si with the flame-retardant capability of phosphaphenanthrene. EP composites containing 3 wt% APOP passed the V-1 rating with a value of LOI of 30.1% and showed an apparent reduction in smoke release. Additionally, the combination of the inorganic structure and the flexible aliphatic segment in the hybrid flame retardant provides EP with molecular reinforcement, while the abundance of amino groups facilitates a good interface compatibility and outstanding transparency. Accordingly, EP containing 3 wt% APOP increased in tensile strength, impact strength, and flexural strength by 66.0 %, 78.6 %, and 32.3 %, respectively. The EP/APOP composites had a bending angle lower than 90°, and their successful transition to a tough material highlights the potential of this innovative combination of the inorganic structure and the flexible aliphatic segment. In addition, the relevant flame-retardant mechanism revealed that the APOP promoted the formation of a hybrid char layer containing P/N/Si for EP and produced phosphorus-containing fragments during combustion, showing flame-retardant effects in both condensed and vapor phases. Background: Erythrocyte alloantibodies are mainly produced after immune stimulation, such as blood transfusion, pregnancy, and transplantation, and are the leading causes of severe hemolytic transfusion reactions and difficulty in blood grouping and matching. Therefore, antibody screening is critical to prevent and improve red cell alloantibodies. Routine tube assay is the primary detection method of antibody screening. Recently, erythrocyte-magnetized technology (EMT) has been increasingly used in clinical practice. This study intends to probe the application and efficacy of the conventional tube and EMT in red blood cell alloantibody titration to provide a reference for clinical blood transfusion., Aim: To investigate the application value of conventional tube and EMT in red blood cell alloantibody titration and enhance the safety of blood transfusion practice., Methods: A total of 1298 blood samples were harvested from blood donors at the Department of Blood Transfusion of our hospital from March 2021 to December 2022. A 5 mL blood sample was collected in tubing, which was then cut, and the whole blood was put into a test tube for centrifugation to separate the serum. Different red blood cell blood group antibody titers were simultaneously detected using the tube polybrene test, tube antiglobulin test (AGT), and EMT screening irregular antibody methods to determine the best test method., Results: Simultaneous detection was performed through the tube polybrene test, tube AGT and EMT screening irregular antibodies. It was discovered that the EMT screening irregular antibody method could detect all immunoglobulin G (IgG) and immunoglobulin M (IgM) irregular antibodies, and the results of manual tube AGT were satisfactory, but the operation time was lengthy, and the equipment had a large footprint. The EMT screening irregular antibody assay was also conducted to determine its activity against type O Rh (D) red blood cells, and the outcomes were satisfactory. Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a subtype of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) of mature B-cells characterized by translocation, which is typically due to excess expression of Cyclin D1. Although with the progress in our knowledge of the causes for MCL and available treatments for MCL, this cancer is still incurable. Age, male gender, rapid advancement, significant nodal involvement, elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase level, and prognostic indications including increased expression of Ki-67 and presence of TP53 mutation, are symbols of poor outcome. Advanced immunotherapy using chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells is advantageous for patients suffering from B-cell malignancies and MCL. Targeting B-cell antigens on the cell surface is a feasible approach in re-occurring (R/R) MCL because of significant responses obtained in other B-cell cancers. USFDA has approved brexucabtagene autoleucel (Tecartus, KTE-X19), a novel CAR T-cell therapy to be used in patients with MCL who have not responded to previous treatments or have relapsed. The FDA approved this new treatment depending on the outcomes of the ZUMA-2 clinical trial. Serious adverse reactions, moderate anti-tumor activity, allergen withdrawal, antigen escape, limited tumor infiltration, and trafficking are major barriers to successful CAR T-cell therapy. Introduction: Breast milk is recognised as the best natural food for neonates, but many women experience postpartum hypogalactia (PH). Randomised trials have found that acupuncture exert therapeutic effect on women with PH. However, systematic reviews on the efficacy and safety of acupuncture are still lacking; therefore, this systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for PH., Methods and Analysis: Six English databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, EBSCO, Scopus, and Web of Science) and four Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wan-Fang, Chinese Biomedical Literature and Chinese Scientific Journal) will be systematically searched from their establishment to 1 September 2022. Randomised controlled trials of the efficacy of acupuncture for PH will be reviewed. The study selection, data extraction and research quality evaluation will be conducted independently by two reviewers. The primary outcome is the change in serum prolactin level from baseline to the end of treatment. Secondary results include milk secretion volume, total effectiveness rate, degree of mammary fullness, rate of exclusive breast feeding, and adverse events. A meta-analysis will be performed using RevMan V.5.4 statistical software. Otherwise, a descriptive analysis will be conducted. Objective: To evaluate the effect of wrist-ankle acupuncture (WAA) in pain and functional recovery after total knee arthroplasty (TKA)., Methods: From June to September 2020, 94 participants were included from the Second Hospital of Tangshan and randomly assigned to the WAA group (47 cases) and the sham WAA group (47 cases) by a random number table, receiving real or sham WAA treatment, respectively. The primary outcome measure involved the visual analogue scale (VAS) scores at rest and in motion. The secondary outcomes involved the range of motion (ROM) of the knee joints, straight-leg raising time, postoperative weight-bearing time, sufentanil consumption within 48 h of patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) pump, length of hospital stay, and postoperative complications., Results: The VAS scores on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th postoperative days at rest and in motion was significantly lower in the WAA group than that of the sham WAA group (P<0.01). The ROM on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd PODs was significantly higher in the WAA group than that of the sham WAA group (P<0.01). In comparison to the sham WAA group, the sufentanil consumption within 48 h of PCA pump was significantly less in the WAA group (156.3 ± 12.2 µg vs. 128.8 ± 9.8 µg, P<0.01). There was no significant difference in active straight-leg raising time, postoperative weight-bearing time, length of hospital stay, and postoperative complications between the two groups (P>0.05)., Conclusions: WAA could alleviate post-TKA pain, improve knee joint function, and reduce the sufentanil consumption within 48 h of PCA pump. Gap junction gene GJB2 (Cx26) mutations cause >50% of nonsyndromic hearing loss. Its recessive hetero-mutation carriers, who have no deafness, occupy ~10 to 20% of the general population. Here, we report an unexpected finding that these heterozygote carriers have hearing oversensitivity, and active cochlear amplification increased. Mouse models show that Cx26 hetero-deletion reduced endocochlear potential generation in the cochlear lateral wall and caused outer hair cell electromotor protein prestin compensatively up-regulated to increase active cochlear amplification and hearing sensitivity. The increase of active cochlear amplification also increased sensitivity to noise; exposure to daily-level noise could cause Cx26 +/- mice permanent hearing threshold shift, leading to hearing loss. This study demonstrates that Cx26 recessive heterozygous mutations are not "harmless" for hearing as previously considered and can cause hyperacusis-like hearing oversensitivity. The data also indicate that GJB2 hetero-mutation carriers are vulnerable to noise and should avoid noise exposure in daily life.

Objective: To investigate the distribution of irregular blood group antibodies in patients with malignant tumors, and to analyze the relationship between it and efficacy of blood transfusion in patients., Methods: 5 600 patients with malignant tumors treated in Shanxi Bethune Hospital from January 2019 to December 2021 were selected as the research subjects. All patients received blood transfusion, and cross matching test was conducted before blood transfusion, irregular antibody results of patients were tested; the irregular distribution of blood group antibodies was observed, and the relationship between it and efficacy of blood transfusion in patients was analyzed., Results: Among 5 600 patients with malignant tumors, 96 cases were positive for irregular antibody, and the positive rate was 1.71%; the main blood group systems involved in the irregular antibody positive of 96 patients with malignant tumors were RH, MNSs and Duffy system, among which Rh blood group was the most common, and the proportion of anti-E was the highest; among the malignant tumor patients with positive blood group irregular antibody, the proportion of female was higher than that of male; the proportion of patients aged >60 years was the highest, followed by patients aged >40 and ≤50 years, and the proportion of patients aged 18-30 years was the lowest; the patients with positive blood group irregular antibody were mainly in blood system (including lymphoma), digestive system, reproductive and urinary system; the positive rate of irregular antibody of patients in the ineffective group was higher than that of patients in the effective group, the difference was statistically significant ( P <0.05). Logistic regression analysis results showed that, irregular antibody positive was a risk factor for ineffective blood transfusion in patients with malignant tumor (OR>1, P <0.05)., Conclusion: The irregular blood group antibody positive of patients with malignant tumor are mostly female, and the proportion of patients aged >60 is the highest, which is mainly distributed in malignant tumors of blood system, digestive system and urogenital system, and the positive blood group irregular antibody is related to the efficacy of blood transfusion in patients.

With the high integration of electronic products in our daily life, high-performance epoxy resins (EP) with excellent flame retardancy, smoke suppression, and mechanical strength are highly desired for applications. In this study, copper organophosphate nanosheets were evenly grown on the surface of graphene oxide (GO) via a self-assembly process based on coordination bonding and electrostatic interactions. The resultant nanohybrid endowed EP with satisfactory flame retardant effect and improved mechanical properties. Incorporating functionalized nanosheets of merely 1 wt% loading, the impact strength of the EP nanocomposites improved by 147% when compared to 1% EP-GO. Additionally, the nanosheets inhibited the smoke and heat release of EP, and the limiting oxygen value of EP-EGOPC reached ∼29%. The mechanism analysis verified that the existence of organophosphate and copper-containing components associated with the physical barrier of GO promoted the hybrid aromatization of the char layer, thereby improving the fire safety of epoxy matrix. Nano flame retardants, as one of the key flame retardants in recent years, have been limited by poor efficiency and weak compatibility. In this study, we propose an interfacial hollow engineering strategy to tackle this problem by assembling P-phytic acid into the hollow cavity of mesoporous SiO 2 grafted with a polydopamine transition metal. In this design, the grafted polydopamine-metal coatings on the hybrids can greatly improve their interface compatibility with the polymer matrix, while the loaded phytic acid in the cavity contributes to enhance flame retardancy. Consequently, the resultant hierarchical P-loaded nanohybrids show both high flame retardancy and mechanical reinforcement for the polymer. Taking epoxy resin (EP, a typical thermosetting resin used in large quantities) as a representative, at only 1 wt% loading of the nanohybrids, the impact strength of the nanocomposites improved by 35.7% compared to pure EP. Remarkably, the hybrids can simultaneously endow EP with high flame retardancy (low heat release rate) and satisfactory smoke inhibition. Additionally, the flame-retardant mechanism analysis confirmed that the nanohybrid had a better catalytic carbonization effect on promoting the highly graphitized carbon layer, thereby suppressing the fire hazard of epoxy resins. Recyclable/reversible adhesives have attracted growing attention for sustainability and intelligence but suffer from low adhesion strength and poor durability in complex conditions. Here, we demonstrate an aromatic siloxane adhesive that exploits stimuli-responsive reversible assembly driven by π-π stacking, allowing for elimination and activation of interfacial interactions via infiltration-volatilization of ethanol. The robust cohesive energy from water-insensitive siloxane assembly enables durable strong adhesion (3.5 MPa shear strength on glasses) on diverse surfaces. Long-term adhesion performances are realized in underwater, salt, and acid/alkali solutions (pH 1-14) and at low/high temperatures (-10-90°C). With reversible assembly/disassembly, the adhesive is closed-loop recycled (~100%) and reused over 100 times without adhesion loss. Furthermore, the adhesive has unique combinations of high transparency (~98% in the visible light region of 400-800 nm) and flame retardancy. The experiments and theoretical calculations reveal the corresponding mechanism at the molecular level. This π-π stacking-driven siloxane assembly strategy opens up an avenue for high-performance adhesives with circular life and multifunctional integration.

Chemically protected sodium butyrate (CSB) is a new kind of sodium butyrate. Our previous study found that 1,000 mg/kg of CSB had the potential capacity of improving growth performance and promoting early development of small intestine in broilers. This study aimed to investigate the effect of long-term antibiotics or CSB supplementation for intestinal microflora dynamical regulation in broilers. One hundred ninety-two 1-day-old Arbor Acres male broilers were randomly allocated into 3 dietary treatment (8 replicates per treatment) and fed with a basal diet (CON), a diet supplemented with the antibiotics (enramycin, 8 mg/kg and aureomycin, 100 mg/kg) (ANT), or a diet supplemented with 1,000 mg/kg of CSB, respectively. Results showed that dietary supplementation of CSB or ANT treatment elevated the weight gain and feed conversion ratio (FCR; P < 0.05), as compared with control (CON) group. Additionally, CON, CSB, or ANT administration dynamically altered the gut microbiota composition as time goes on. The increased presence of potential pathogens, such as Romboutsia and Shuttleworthia, and decreased beneficial bacteria such as Alistipes, Akkermansia, and Bacteroides were verified in new gut homeostasis reshaped by long-term antibiotics treatment, which has adverse effects on intestinal development and health of broilers. Conversely, CSB supplementation could dynamically enhance the relative abundance of Bacteroides, and decrease Romboutsia and Shuttleworthia in new microflora, which has positive effects on intestinal bacteria of broilers compared with CON group. Meanwhile, CSB supplementation was significantly increased the concentration of propionic acid and total short chain fatty acids (total SCFA; P < 0.05) in comparison with CON and ANT groups. Moreover, CSB treatment significantly increased anti-inflammatory and antioxidative capacities (P < 0.05) of broilers compared with ANT group. Taken together, we revealed characteristic structural changes of gut microbiota throughout long-term CSB or ANT supplementation in broilers, which provided a basic data for evaluating the mechanism of action affecting intestinal health by CSB or ANT administration and CSB as an alternative to antibiotics in the broilers industry., (Copyright © 2022 The Authors. Spin angular momentum transfer in magnetic bilayers offers the possibility of ultrafast and low-loss operation for next-generation spintronic devices. We report the field- and temperature- dependent measurements on the magnetization precessions in Co 2 FeAl/(Ga,Mn)As by time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect. Analysis of the effective Gilbert damping and phase shift indicates a clear signature of an enhanced dynamic exchange coupling between the two ferromagnetic (FM) layers due to the reinforced spin pumping at resonance. Most organic polymeric materials have high flammability, for which the large amounts of smoke, toxic gases, heat, and melt drips produced during their burning cause immeasurable damages to human life and property every year. Despite some desirable results having been achieved by conventional flame-retardant methods, their application is encountering more and more difficulties with the ever-increasing high flame-retardant requirements such as high flame-retardant efficiency, great persistence, low release of heat, smoke, and toxic gases, and more importantly not deteriorating or even enhancing the overall properties of polymers. Under such condition, some advanced flame-retardant methods have been developed in the past years based on "all-in-one" intumescence, nanotechnology, in situ reinforcement, intrinsic char formation, plasma treatment, biomimetic coatings, etc., which have provided potential solutions to the dilemma of conventional flame-retardant methods. This review briefly outlines the development, application, and problems of conventional flame-retardant methods, including bulk-additive, bulk-copolymerization, and surface treatment, and focuses on the raise, development, and potential application of advanced flame-retardant methods. In view of the toxicity of the Pb element, exploring eco-friendly Pb-free halide perovskites with excellent photoelectric properties is of great research and practical application significance. Herein, copper-based halide perovskite CsCuCl 3 and the corresponding Br - -substituted sample (CsCuCl 2 Br) are designed and explored as the catalysts for photocatalytic CO 2 reduction for the first time. A facile antisolvent recrystallization process with pre-prepared single crystals as the precursor is employed to controllably synthesize CsCuCl 3 and CsCuCl 2 Br microcrystals (MCs). The electronic structure and charge transfer property analysis by theoretical and experimental investigation reveal that CsCuCl 3 possesses a satisfying bandgap (1.92 eV) and conduction band minimum (CBM) to harvest the sunlight and drive the conversion of CO 2 to CH 4 and CO. The Br - substitution can not only narrow the bandgap but also facilitate the transportation of charge carriers. Thus, a total electron consumption rate of 44.71 μmol g -1 h -1 is achieved for CsCuCl 2 Br MCs, which is much better than that of same-sized CsPbBr 3 microcrystals or even better than many perovskite nanocrystal photocatalysts. This study suggests that Cu-based perovskites can serve as promising candidates for artificial photosynthesis or other photocatalytic applications, which may propose a new thought to construct lead-free, low-cost photocatalysts.

To compare the different actions of the two representative transition metal cations of Co 2+ and Ni 2+ in layered double hydroxides (LDHs), CoAl-LDH and NiAl-LDH intercalated with CO 3 2- were synthesized, and the chemical structures, microstructures, and surface areas thereof were successfully characterized. Then, the two LDHs were utilized as flame retardants and smoke suppressants for silicone foam (SiF). The densities, flame retardancy, smoke suppression, thermal stabilities, and compressive strengths of the two SiF/LDHs nanocomposites were investigated. The introduction of LDHs slightly decreased the density of SiF due to the catalytic actions of Co and Ni during the foaming process of SiF. With respect to the flame retardancy, the addition of only 1 phr of either CoAl-LDH or NiAl-LDH could effectively improve the limiting oxygen index of SiF from 28.7 to 29.6%. Based on the results of vertical flame testing and a cone calorimeter test, the flame retardancy and fire safety of the SiF were effectively enhanced by the incorporation of LDHs. In addition, owing to the good catalytic action and large specific surface area (NiAl-LDH: 174.57 m 2 g -1 ; CoAl-LDH: 51.47 m 2 g -1 ), NiAl-LDH revealed higher efficiencies of flame retardancy and smoke suppression than those of CoAl-LDH. According to the results of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Co and Ni participated in the formation of protective char layers, which inhibited the release of SiO 2 into the gas phase. Finally, the influences on the thermal decomposition and compressive strength for SiF resulting from the addition of LDHs are discussed.

Frequent oil spills have caused severe environmental and ecological damage. Effective cleanup has become a complex challenge owing to the poor flowability of viscous crude oils. The current method of solar heating to reduce the viscosity of heavy oil is only suitable during sunny days, while the use of Joule heating is limited by the risk of direct exposure to high-voltage electricity. Herein, we demonstrate a noncontact electromagnetic induction and solar dual-heating sponge for the quick, safe, and energy-saving cleanup of ultrahigh-viscosity heavy oil. The resulting sponge with magnetic, conductive, and hydrophobic properties can be rapidly heated to absorb heavy oil under alternating magnetic fields, solar irradiation, or both of these conditions. By constructing theoretical models and fitting the actual data, an in-depth analysis of induction and solar heating processes is carried out. The sponge has excellent resilience and stability, indicating its reusability, fast and continuous adsorption (16.17 g in 10 s), and large capacity (75-81 g/g, the highest value ever) for soft asphalt (a highly viscous crude oil). This work provides a new noncontact dual-heating strategy for heavy oil cleanup, in which absorbents use induction heating during an emergency and then switch to partial or full solar heating to save energy in sunny conditions. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATION: Heavy oils stranded on the beach or floating on water can kill underwater plants by blocking sunlight, or trap water birds and other animals. Heavy oil also contains aromatic substances that are toxic to aquatic organisms. Although oil spills near shallow water cannot be cleaned up by fences or other machinery, an oil adsorbent can deal with this problem. However, common adsorbents cannot effectively absorb high-viscosity oils, such as heavy oil.
