Abstract: This paper addresses the design and realization of a networked estimator, which requires further digital implementation using several subsystems. Implementation on a digital process entails finite word length effects on the coefficients' representation, and a multiple-subsystem architecture also introduces internal time delays in the information interaction. Dealing with these intrinsic defects requires finding a resilient realization. A corresponding descriptor model-based approach is thus constructed to describe the internal time delays and equivalent realizations with finite word length effects in a unifying framework, which enables simultaneous consideration of design and realization. Based on the obtained descriptor model, a stability analysis condition is deduced and a design method for the estimator is further obtained. An algorithm is also proposed for finding the optimal realization requiring the minimum word length for stabilization. Finally, a simulation with two cooperative robots is considered to illustrate the effectiveness of the results.

Abstract: International audience; Microreactor is capable of intensifying catalytic reaction processes. The fabricating of catalytic film inside microchannels for catalytic reaction remains a challenge. Here we report a facile method for in situ fabrication of layered double hydroxide (LDH) film immobilizing gold nanoparticles in capillary microreactor. Through adjusting the reaction condition of in situ hydrothermal crystallization process and flow deposition process inside microchannel, film thickness, film morphology and Au loading of Au/LDH coating can be finely controlled. Such Au/LDH film inside microchannel exhibited good performance in catalytic carbonylation of glycerol with urea. The yield of glycerol carbonate reached 31.9% at flow rate of 10 µl/min, residence time of 6.62 min and reaction temperature of 413 K under atmospheric pressure. The maximum productivity of 3.78 g∙h−1⋅g−1 was obtained at flow rate of 40 µl/min and residence time of 1.65 min under same reaction temperature and pressure. Continuously running the microreactor for 30 h proved the high stability of this catalytic film inside microchannels. This approach could be extended to fabricate other diatomic and triatomic metal LDH films immobilizing metal nanoparticles inside microchannels for heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract: DESI (Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument) is a Stage IV ground-based dark energy experiment that will study baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) and the growth of structure through redshift-space distortions with a wide-area galaxy and quasar redshift survey. To trace the underlying dark matter distribution, spectroscopic targets will be selected in four classes from imaging data. We will measure luminous red galaxies up to $z=1.0$. To probe the Universe out to even higher redshift, DESI will target bright [O II] emission line galaxies up to $z=1.7$. Quasars will be targeted both as direct tracers of the underlying dark matter distribution and, at higher redshifts ($ 2.1 < z < 3.5$), for the Ly-$\alpha$ forest absorption features in their spectra, which will be used to trace the distribution of neutral hydrogen. When moonlight prevents efficient observations of the faint targets of the baseline survey, DESI will conduct a magnitude-limited Bright Galaxy Survey comprising approximately 10 million galaxies with a median $z\approx 0.2$. In total, more than 30 million galaxy and quasar redshifts will be obtained to measure the BAO feature and determine the matter power spectrum, including redshift space distortions.

Abstract: International audience; Hausmannite is a common low valence Mn oxide mineral, with a distorted spinel structure, in surficial sediments. Although natural Mn oxides often contain various impurities of transitional metals (TMs), few studies have addressed the effect and related mechanism of TM doping on the reactivity of hausmannite with metal pollutants. Here, the reactivity of cobalt (Co) doped hausmannite with aqueous As(III) and As(V) was studied. Co doping decreased the point of zero charge of hausmannite and its adsorption capacity for As(V). Despite a reduction of the initial As(III) oxidation rate, Co-doped hausmannite could effectively oxidize As(III) to As(V), followed by the adsorption and fixation of a large amount of As(V) on the mineral surface. Arsenic K-edge EXAFS analysis of the samples after As(V) adsorption and As(III) oxidation revealed that only As(V) was adsorbed on the mineral surface, with an average As-Mn distance of 3.25–3.30 Å, indicating the formation of bidentate binuclear complexes. These results provide new insights into the interaction mechanism between TMs and low valence Mn oxides and their effect on the geochemical behaviors of metal pollutants.

Abstract: International audience; The genesis of the alkaline basalts in French Massif Central (FMC) has drawn extensive attention as a representative of the Circum-Mediterranean anorogenic Cenozoic igneous province. However, the origin of these basalts is still under debated. To shed new light on this issue, we studied the origin of the Ray-Pic alkaline basalts in southeast FMC, which carried abundant fresh peridotite xenoliths. In addition to the major- and trace-element, Sr-Nd-Pb isotope composition of bulk rock, we focused on the oxygen isotope composition, H2O content and crystallization temperature of the Ray-Pic basalts. Compared with normal MORB, the Ray-Pic basalts have the relatively high δ18O values of the clinopyroxene (cpx) phenocrysts (6.41 - 8.44 ‰), high water contents (0.96 - 2.49 wt.%), but similar crystallization temperature of olivine phenocrysts (~ 1200 ℃). The differences of the Sr-Nd-Pb-O isotope composition and the H2O content between the Ray-Pic basalts and peridotite xenoliths conflicted with an amp-rich metasomatized lithospheric mantle source. Instead, the relatively high δ18O values of cpx phenocrysts, high Ni content and Fe/Mn ratios of early crystalized olivine phenocrysts indicated that the recycled oceanic crust was involved in the mantle source of Ray-Pic basalts. Seismic tomography identified the presence of a plume-like low-velocity domain in the upper mantle beneath the FMC and a remnant oceanic slab in the mantle transition zone (MTZ) beneath the western-central Europe [1, 2]. Therefore, the high-water content in the mantle source (> 1000 ppm, wt) and the normal crystallization temperature of Ray-Pic basalts suggest that a wet mantle plume with the component of a recycled oceanic crust originating from the MTZ is involved. Therefore, we proposed that the wet mantle plume in upper mantle probably account for genesis of the alkaline basalts with HIMU feature in the FMC and even the western-central Europe.References:[1] Chevrot, S. et al. Abstract: We describe mock data-sets generated to simulate the high-redshift quasar sample in Data Release 11 (DR11) of the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). The mock spectra contain Ly{\alpha} forest correlations useful for studying the 3D correlation function including Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO). They also include astrophysical effects such as quasar continuum diversity and high-density absorbers, instrumental effects such as noise and spectral resolution, as well as imperfections introduced by the SDSS pipeline treatment of the raw data. The Ly{\alpha} forest BAO analysis of the BOSS collaboration, described in Delubac et al. 2014, has used these mock data-sets to develop and cross-check analysis procedures prior to performing the BAO analysis on real data, and for continued systematic cross checks. Tests presented here show that the simulations reproduce sufficiently well important characteristics of real spectra. Abstract: International audience; This paper deals with the state feedback Hinf control problem for linear time-invariant discrete-time singular systems. Relied on the use of auxiliary matrices and a positive scalar, a novel necessary and sufficient condition for the bounded real lemma is derived for discrete-time singular systems. The characterization is reduced to a strict linear matrix inequality (LMI) when the scalar is fixed, and the resulting LMI is non- conservative as long as the scalar is chosen sufficiently large. Moreover, the result is further expanded to Hinf controller design, and a numerically efficient and reliable design procedure is given. Since no particular restriction is imposed on the auxiliary matrices, the proposed result outperforms the existing methods in the literature. Numerical examples are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the present result.

The problem arises then of managing the virtual network functions, that is, to decide where to instantiate the functions and how to route the demands to reach them. While it arises in an application field, the Virtual Network Function placement and routing problem combines location and routing aspects in an interesting, challenging problem. In this paper, we propose several ILP-based heuristics and compare them on a dataset that includes instances with different sizes, network topologies, and service capacity. The heuristics prove effective in tackling even large size instances, with up to 50 nodes and more than 80 arcs.

Abstract: The electromigration (EM) damage is becoming a severe problem in the printed flexible electronics as the printed circuits are fabricated thinner and thinner due to the development of printing technology. In this work, the EM behavior of printed silver wires was investigated by EM experiments and numerical simulations. The EM tests showed that voids are generated in the cathode area and hillocks are formed in the anode area for a wire with a small length. However, with the increase of wire length, hillocks tend to occur on the two sides of the silver wire middle part. The results of numerical simulations based on the atomic flux divergence (AFD) method revealed that the formation of the hillocks on the printed wire is caused by not only the mechanism of electron wind but also the strong temperature gradient along the wire length and width direction. Also, it can be concluded that the temperature gradient induced by Joule heating plays a more important role than electron wind in the atomic migration of the printed silver wire subjected to a high current density. The influence of the printed silver wire size on the EM behavior was also analyzed by numerical simulation, and the results demonstrated that the printed silver wires with a larger length and a smaller width-to-thickness ratio are more likely to develop hillocks on the two sides of silver wire middle part while subjected to a high current density.

Abstract: International audience; The present work uncovers the geochemical control on the nature (tunnel size) of the tectomanganates formed from layered precursors, and thus provides insights into the formation of Mn oxides in natural environments. Large tunnel sizes are favored under circum-neutral conditions, whereas low pH conditions favor the formation of tectomanganates with smaller tunnel sizes. Both the increased proportions of Mn(III) in vernadite/birnessite layers resulting from low pH conditions and the subsequent enhancement of Mn(III) disproportionation during subsequent transformation contribute to the formation of tectomanganates with smaller tunnel sizes. The fate of foreign elements during the phyllomanganate-to-tectomanganate mineral transformation is another important aspect of this mineral transformation, together with the impact of these elements on the transformation. Layered and tunnel Mn oxides have indeed a pivotal influence on the geochemical cycling of transition metals, including Co, that possess a strong affinity for these mineral species. The present experimental work shows that the formation of todorokite (3 × 3 tunnel size), hollandite (2 × 2), or nsutite (intergrown 1 × 1 and 1 × 2 fragments) is essentially unaffected by limited Co-enrichment (≤5 at.%) of the initial phyllomanganate structure. Higher Co contents reduce the content of Jahn-Teller distorted Mn(III) octahedra in layered precursor and hamper the phyllomanaganate-to-tectomanganate transformation. Finally, Co is retained in the structure of todorokite and hollandite during their formation under circum-neutral conditions whereas part (∼20%) of the Co present in layered precursors is expelled out of the framework and/or sorbed to nsutite formed under acidic conditions. This effect is induced by the reduced stability of Co(III) octahedra when the relative proportion of corner-sharing linkages increases. In turn, this effect influences Co structural incorporation in different Mn oxides and its potential release to solution.

Abstract: International audience; Existing traditional and ConvNet-based methods for light field depth estimation mainly work on the narrow-baseline scenario. This paper explores the feasibility and capability of ConvNets to estimate depth in another promising scenario: wide-baseline light fields. Due to the deficiency of training samples, a large-scale and diverse synthetic wide-baseline dataset with labelled data is introduced for depth prediction tasks. Considering the practical goal for real-world applications, we design an end-to-end trained lightweight convolutional network to infer depths from light fields, called LLF-Net. The proposed LLF-Net is built by incorporating a cost volume which allows variable angular light field inputs and an attention module that enables to recover details at occlusion areas. Evaluations are made on the synthetic and real-world wide-baseline light fields, and experimental results show that the proposed network achieves the best performance when compared to recent state-of-the-art methods. We also evaluate our LLF-Net on narrow-baseline datasets, and it consequently improves the performance of previous methods.

Abstract: International audience; The intrinsic compression framework that uses the void index for normalizing the virgin compression of reconstituted clays has been widely applied for academic and practical purposes. Past studies have shown that the data of void index are scattered when the stress is out of the range from 100 to 1000 kPa. In this study, the key cause responsible for the scatter problem in the existing intrinsic compression framework is identified. A united void index is introduced for normalizing the compression curves of reconstituted clays over a wide stress range starting from the remoulded yield stress to 1000 kPa. The normalized unique line is termed the unified normalized compression line (UNCL). Its constitutive equation is established in terms of the united void index versus the effective vertical stress. The uniqueness of the UNCL is validated based on independent data from the literature and the data from the research team. It is suggested that the UNCL should be directly measured from the virgin compression. In the case without conducting consolidation tests, the correlations between the intrinsic parameters in the UNCL’s equation and two physical parameters are proposed for indirectly determining the UNCL. The accuracy of the empirical correlations is investigated via the comparisons between the calculated intrinsic parameters and the measurements.

Abstract: International audience; Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have achieved great success in computer vision applications. However, due to the high requirements for computation power and memory usage, most state-of-the-art CNNs are difficult to deploy on resource-constrained mobile devices. Although many typical lightweight neural networks have been proposed in the industry, such as MobileNetV2, which reduce the amount of parameters and calculations, they still have a lot of redundancy. Furthermore, few papers consider the use of deep learning models to implement image retrieval on terminals, so we propose a new offline retrieval framework based on lightweight neural network models, called Offline Mobile Content-Based Image Retrieval (OMCBIR). In this framework, we focus on the feature extraction of the model, by introducing pointwise group convolution and channel shuffle into the bottleneck block, reconstructing the network structure, and introducing the convolutional attention module, we propose an extremely lightweight small network-Attention-based Lightweight Network (ALNet). Compared to MobileNetV2, ALNet obtains a higher mAP on each dataset in OMCBIR when the model parameters are reduced by more than 62% and the model size is reduced by more than 63%. Extensive experiments conducted on five public datasets provide a trade-off between retrieval performance and model size of different algorithms, which proves the efficiency of the proposed OMCBIR.

Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. High ionic conductivity in low-cost semiconductor oxides is essential to develop electrochemical energy devices for practical applications. These materials exhibit fast protonic or oxygen-ion transport in oxide materials by structural doping, but their application to solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) has remained a significant challenge. In this work, we have successfully synthesized nanostructured monoclinic WO3 through three steps: co-precipitation, hydrothermal, and dry freezing methods. The resulting WO3 exhibited good ionic conductivity of 6.12 × 10−2 S cm−1 and reached an excellent power density of 418 mW cm−2 at 550◦C using as an electrolyte in SOFC. To achieve such a high ionic conductivity and fuel cell performance without any doping contents was surprising, as there should not be any possibility of oxygen vacancies through the bulk structure for the ionic transport. Therefore, laterally we found that the surface layer of WO3 is reduced to oxygen-deficient when exposed to a reducing atmosphere and form WO3−δ/WO3 heterostructure, which reveals a unique ionic transport mechanism. Different microscopic and spectroscopic methods such as HR-TEM, SEM, EIS, Raman, UV-visible, XPS, and ESR spectroscopy were applied to investigate the structural, morphological, and electrochemical properties of WO3 electrolyte. The structural stability of the WO3 is explained by less dispersion between the valence and conduction bands of WO3−δ/WO3, which in turn could prevent current leakage in the fuel cell that is essential to reach high performance. This work provides some new insights for designing high-ion conducting electrolyte materials for energy storage and conversion devices.

Abstract: Plants employ two different types of immune receptors, cell surface pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) and intracellular nucleotide-binding and leucine-rich repeat-containing proteins (NLRs), to cope with pathogen invasion. Both immune receptors often share similar downstream components and responses but it remains unknown whether a PRR and an NLR assemble into the same protein complex or two distinct receptor complexes. We have previously found that the small GTPase OsRac1 plays key roles in the signaling of OsCERK1, a PRR for fungal chitin, and of Pit, an NLR for rice blast fungus, and associates directly and indirectly with both of these immune receptors. In this study, using biochemical and bioimaging approaches, we revealed that OsRac1 formed two distinct receptor complexes with OsCERK1 and with Pit. Supporting this result, OsCERK1 and Pit utilized different transport systems for anchorage to the plasma membrane (PM). Activation of OsCERK1 and Pit led to OsRac1 activation and, concomitantly, OsRac1 shifted from a small to a large protein complex fraction. We also found that the chaperone Hsp90 contributed to the proper transport of Pit to the PM and the immune induction of Pit. These findings illuminate how the PRR OsCERK1 and the NLR Pit orchestrate rice immunity through the small GTPase OsRac1.

Abstract: International audience; The effect of different crystal phases, i.e. spinel phase (CuMn2O4) and amorphous phase (Cu0.2MnOx), was explored in Cu-Mn catalytic ozonation of toluene. The toluene removal efficiency followed the order of Cu0.2MnOx (91.2%) ˃ CuMn2O4 (74.5%) ˃ commercial catalyst Cu0.3MnOx (70.3%) in 130 min, and the higher CO2 yield (67.6%) could be also observed using Cu0.2MnOx. In order to investigate the effect of phases on the toluene degradation pathway, the intermediates and byproducts were identified by DRIFTS, GC-MS, and TOF-SIMS. No obvious difference was observed in the distribution of byproducts, except for the quantities, suggesting the discrepancy of oxidation rate. On the other hand, the catalysts were characterized before and after the ozonation process by TEM, BET, XPS, XRD, EPR, TGA, and TPR. It was proposed that for amorphous catalysts, the oxygen vacancy (Vo) helped the chemisorption of toluene, and adjacent Mn reacted as the main active site for the ozonation process. While, the redox pair of Cu+/Mn4+ and Cu2+/(Mn3+, Mn2+) in the spinel phase plays an important role in the generation of oxygen vacancies for O3 decomposition.

Abstract: International audience; With the wide use of visual sensors in the Internet of Things (IoT) in the past decade, huge amount of images are captured in people's daily lives, which makes the traditional deep learning-based image retrieval frameworks meeting some challenges. For one, most of them need a large amount of annotated training data, which is expensive. Moreover, machines still lack human intelligence, as illustrated by the fact that they pay less attention to the interesting regions that humans generally focus on when search images. Hence, this paper proposes a novel unsupervised framework that focuses on the instance object in the image, and integrates human intelligence into the deep learningbased image retrieval. This framework is called adversarial instance-level image retrieval (AILIR). We incorporate adversarial training and an attention mechanism into this framework that consider human intelligence with artificial intelligence. The generator and discriminator are redesigned to guarantee that the generator retrieves similar images while the discriminator selects unmatched images and creates an adversarial reward for the generator. A minimax game is conducted by the adversarial reward retrieval mechanism until the discriminator is unable to judge whether the image sequence retrieved matches the query. Comparison and ablation experiments on four benchmark datasets prove that the proposed adversarial training framework indeed improves instance retrieval and outperforms the state-ofthe-art methods focused on instance retrieval.

Abstract: International audience; Cross-modal retrieval has drawn much attention in recent years due to the diversity and the quantity of information data that exploded with the popularity of mobile devices and social media. Extracting relevant information efficiently from large-scale multi-modal data is becoming a crucial problem of information retrieval. Cross-modal retrieval aims to retrieve relevant information across different modalities. In this paper, we highlight key points of recent cross-modal retrieval approaches based on deep-learning, especially in the image-text retrieval context, and classify them into four categories according to different embedding methods. Evaluations of state-of-the-art cross-modal retrieval methods on two benchmark datasets are shown at the end of this paper.

Abstract: Marine sponges of the genus Stelletta are well known as rich sources of diverse and complex biologically relevant natural products, including alkaloids, terpenoids, peptides, lipids, and steroids. Some of these metabolites, with novel structures and promising biological activities, have attracted a lot of attention from chemists seeking to perform their total synthesis in parallel to intensive biological studies towards new drug leads. Abstract: Botvinik-Nezer, Rotem et al., Data analysis workflows in many scientific domains have become increasingly complex and flexible. Here we assess the effect of this flexibility on the results of functional magnetic resonance imaging by asking 70 independent teams to analyse the same dataset, testing the same 9 ex-ante hypotheses. The flexibility of analytical approaches is exemplified by the fact that no two teams chose identical workflows to analyse the data. This flexibility resulted in sizeable variation in the results of hypothesis tests, even for teams whose statistical maps were highly correlated at intermediate stages of the analysis pipeline. Variation in reported results was related to several aspects of analysis methodology. Notably, a meta-analytical approach that aggregated information across teams yielded a significant consensus in activated regions. Furthermore, prediction markets of researchers in the field revealed an overestimation of the likelihood of significant findings, even by researchers with direct knowledge of the dataset. Our findings show that analytical flexibility can have substantial effects on scientific conclusions, and identify factors that may be related to variability in the analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging. The results emphasize the importance of validating and sharing complex analysis workflows, and demonstrate the need for performing and reporting multiple analyses of the same data. Abstract: Concentrating light technology is used to improve photoreduction of CO2 to CH4 reaction on semiconductor catalysts such as TiO2. The catalysts were prepared by anodization method and characterized by XRD, SEM, XPS and photoillumiation. The results showed that the CH4 yield rate could be raised from 0.70 μmol g−1 h−1 to 20.67 μmol g−1 h−1 under concentrating light, and it could be further increased to 28.49 μmol g−1 h−1 after pretreatment in the air. It is inferred that the concentrating light increases CO2 conversion not only by heightening light intensity, but also by improving the surface properties of the catalyst.

Abstract: International audience; Hausmannite is a common low-valence manganese oxide mineral with a distorted spinel structure in surficial sediments. Although natural Mn oxides often contain various transition metal (TM) impurities, few studies have addressed the substitution mechanisms of TMs, such as cobalt (Co), with hausmannite and induced changes in the mineral physicochemical properties. In this study, Co-doped hausmannites with final Co/Mn molar ratios of 0.05 and 0.11 were synthesized and characterized by wet chemical analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformed infrared spectra (FTIR), high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (XAFS). Co-doped samples have larger crystallite sizes and smaller specific surface areas than those of the hausmannite without Co. The Co cations exist in a mixed-valence of +3 and + 2. Powder XRD and acid dissolution experiments indicate that Co incorporates into the mineral structures, and increases the mineral structural stability. Co K-edge extended X-ray adsorption fine structure (EXAFS) analysis demonstrates that Co likely substitutes for lattice Mn(III). After aging at room temperature for three years, 14.1 ± 1.9% of pure hausmannite is transformed to manganite while only 2.6 ± 0.7% of manganite appears in the aged Co-doped sample with an initial Co/Mn molar ratio of 0.10. These results provide new insights into the incorporation mechanisms of TMs into low valence Mn oxides, and thestability of these minerals in natural environments.

Abstract: International audience; A series of one-dimensional incremental load consolidation–hydraulic conductivity tests was performed on reconstituted clays. Based on these tests, together with the test data compiled from the literature, the quantitative interrelation between the variation of hydraulic conductivity in the vertical direction with void ratio and the compression behaviour is established. It is found that the hydraulic conductivity in the vertical direction can be expressed as a function of void index, initial void ratio and void ratio at the liquid limit. The effects of initial void ratio and void index on hydraulic conductivity in the vertical direction for a given clay with a given void ratio at the liquid limit can be comprehensively attributed to the effect of void ratio on hydraulic conductivity in the vertical direction. These two findings introduce the point that the hydraulic conductivity in the vertical direction is a function of void ratio and void ratio at the liquid limit. Empirical equations are proposed to determine the hydraulic conductivity in the vertical direction using void ratio and void ratio at the liquid limit or using effective vertical stress, initial void ratio and void ratio at the liquid limit. These two empirical equations are correlated based on the concept of intrinsic compression.

Colloidal glass is solid soft matter that consists of two intertwined phases: a random packed particle network and a fluid solvent. By dispersing charged rod-like cellulose nanoparticles into a water-ethylene glycol cosolvent, here we demonstrate a new kind of colloidal glass with a high liquid crystalline order, namely, two general superstructures with nematic and cholesteric packing states are preserved and jammed inside the glass matrix. During the glass formation process, structural arrest and phase transition occur simultaneously at high particle concentrations, yielding solid-like behavior as well as a frozen liquid crystal texture that is because of caging of the charged colloids through neighboring long-ranged repulsive interactions.

Abstract: Rapid development in the different computer science fields during the recent decades has facilitated the creation of new applications in the area of dynamic simulation of plant development. Among these new applications, simulation of trees swaying in the wind is of great importance, as those computer graphics related areas, e.g., computer games, tree cultivation and forest management simulations, help a lot in revealing the mechanisms of tree dynamics under wind load. However, it is a big challenge to balance the effect of visualization in real time and calculation efficiency for any simulation algorithm. A physics-based algorithm to simulate tree dynamics under wind load was proposed in this study. A mechanistic model simulating the bending of a cantilever beam was used within the algorithm to simulate deformation of stems, and the algorithm was integrated with a landscape model in which different types of trees were constructed with an L-system-based formalism. Simulation results show that realistic dynamic effects can be achieved with reasonably high computational efficiency.

Abstract: International audience; Single-crystals of unsubstituted [1]Benzothieno[3,2-b][1]-benzothiophene (BTBT) were prepared by physical vapor transport deposition (VTP). The packing structure and morphology of the crystals were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), polarized optical microscopy (POM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The charge transport properties of BTBT single-crystals were also investigated via bottom contact/bottom gate (BC/BG) organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) on both SiO2 and n-octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) treated surfaces. A maximum hole mobility value of 0.032 cm2V−1s−1 was measured on the OTS substrate. In addition, single-crystal OFETs with ion gel top gate (TG) configuration were also investigated for low voltage operation. This work represents the first investigation of charge carrier mobility of a simple BTBT in transistor configuration and highlights the essential role of the BTBT substitution in charge transport properties.
