Abstract

In this study, we developed a simple and sensitive colorimetric sensing method for the detection of UO22+, which was built to release MB from the molybdenum disulfide with a phosphate group (MoS2-PO4) gated mesoporous silica nanoparticles functionalized phosphate group (MSN-PO4) with UO22+chelating. In the presence of UO22+, MoS2-PO4can be effectively adsorbed onto the surface of MSN-PO4based on the coordination chemistry for strong affinity between the P–O bond and UO22+. The adsorbed MoS2-PO4was then utilized as an ideal gate material to control the release of signal molecules (MB) entrapped within the pores of MSN-PO4, resulting in a detectable decrease in the absorption peak at 663 nm. This colorimetric sensing demonstrated the advantages of simplicity and easy manipulation and exhibited a linear response to the concentration of UO22+within the range of 0.02–0.2 μM. The detection limit of UO22+was determined to be 0.85 nM, which was lower than the limit (130 nmol L−1) set by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Furthermore, the proposed colorimetric sensing method has been utilized to determine UO22+in samples of Xiangjiang River and tap water, and a high recovery rate was achieved. This method shows promising potential in preventing and controlling environmental pollution.

36. Near-Infrared-Driven β‑NaYF4:Yb,Tm,Gd/Ni-MOF Nanocomposites for Efficient Sterilization and Degradation of Organic Contaminants.

Abstract

The β-NaYF4:Yb,Tm,Gd/Ni-MOF (UCNR/Ni-MOF, UNM) nanocomposites were successfully synthesized via a simple two-step hydrothermal method. Excited by a 980 nm laser, UCNRs produce ultraviolet and visible light, activating the Ni-MOF and generating a significant quantity of electron/hole pairs (e–/h+). These e–/h+ pairs can then react with O2 and H2O to create reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can be used for antibacterial purposes. Characterization techniques including transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were utilized to analyze the structure, optical properties, composition, and morphology of the UNM nanocomposites. The photocatalytic performance of UNM was evaluated by testing its ability to kill E. coli and S. aureus as well as degrade rhodamine B (RhB) under 980 nm near-infrared light irradiation (1.0 W/cm2). After 18 min of reaction, the bactericidal rates against E. coli and S. aureus were observed to be roughly 100 and 99.99%, respectively. Similarly, ∼98.49% of RhB was degraded within 180 min. Free radical capture experiments were conducted to further investigate the mechanism of UNM photocatalysis. The main active species involved were determined to be ·O2– and h+. In addition, UNM was able to retain ∼86.25% of its degradation rate toward RhB after four cycles of cycling experiments, which demonstrated its good stability. Therefore, this study provides a potential strategy to eliminate bacteria and degrade hazardous pollutants in order to mitigate environmental pollution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Folic acid (FA) is one of the essential vitamins for the growth and reproduction of human cells, and it is of great significance to detect FA in real time. In this study, we designed double-stranded DNA (dsDNA)-templated copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) as a nanoprobe for rapid, highly sensitive and selective detection of FA via the inner filter effect (IFE). The dsDNA-CuNCs nanoprobe with strong stability could be prepared facilely in only 5 min at room temperature and testing could be completed in 12.5 min. This method exhibited a satisfactory linear response to FA in the concentration range of 1.25–50.00 μM and a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.34 μM. The dsDNA-CuNCs sensing probe exhibited excellent selectivity and was successfully applied in serum and tablets for FA detection with recoveries of 97.87% to 105.41%. This fluorescence method provides a straightforward label-free biosensor platform for rapid detection of FA, indicating great potential in biological applications for point-of-care testing. Abstract

A simple dual-signal assay that combined colorimetric and fluorometric strategy for uric acid (UA) rapid detection was designed based on the versatility of facile synthesized MnO2nanosheet. The oxidization of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) and the fluorescence quenching of quantum dots (QDs) occurred simultaneously in the presence of MnO2nanosheet. UA could decompose MnO2nanosheet into Mn2+, resulting in the fluorescence recovery of QDs, along with the fading of the blue color of ox TMB. Based on the principles above, the detection of UA could be realized by the change of the dual signals (colorimetric and fluorometric). The linear range of the colorimetric mode was 5–60 μmol L−1, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 2.65 μmol L−1; the linear range of the fluorescence mode was wide at 5–120 μmol L−1, and the LOD could be as low as 1.33 μmol L−1. The method was successfully used for analyzing UA levels in human serum samples, indicating that this new dual-signal method could be applied in clinical diagnosis.
