Primary ectopic meningioma of the middle ear is relatively rare in clinical practice. It is often difficult to distinguish it from chronic otitis media or otitis media with effusion due to its similar and atypical clinical symptoms. We report a case of epithelial tympanic ectopic meningioma with the main complaints of otalgia, aural fullness, and hearing loss. It was accidentally discovered during tympanotomy due to the symptoms of recurring refractory secretory otitis media. This article briefly reviews the relevant literature in recent years, summarizes the characteristics of primary ectopic tympanic meningioma with intact tympanic membrane, and emphasizes the diagnosis and treatment strategy of the middle ear mass. This article critically examines the reduction mechanisms and energy transfer processes between trivalent europium ions (Eu3+) and divalent europium ions (Eu2+) in materials synthesized in an air atmosphere. It also encompasses various materials and conditions, including a critical analysis of the reduction mechanism and energy transfer between Eu3+ and Eu2+ in Eu-doped materials. Specific investigations include exploring the reduction process in BaMgSiO4:Eu, focusing on factors influencing the reaction. The article also covers low-temperature self-reduction, addressing conditions and mechanisms such as the charge compensation model and laser-induced reduction. Additionally, it explores the influence of charge compensation on luminescent properties, emphasizing enhancements in red emission. Investigations into the role of oxygen vacancies in the reduction of Eu3+ and their implications on material properties are presented. This article further digs into abnormal reduction processes and the formation of defect centers in Eu3+-doped pollucite, proposing a substitution defect model for the self-reduction of europium ions in silicate Ba(Eu)MgSiO4 phosphors. Unusual reduction phenomena, such as reduction via boiling water in Yb2Si2O7:Eu3+ phosphors, and reductions in various glass systems, including porous glass, ZnO–B2O3–P2O5 glasses, aluminoborosilicate glasses, europium-doped Li2B4O7 glass, and aluminosilicate oxyfluoride glass (AOG), are also thoroughly examined. Dizziness is an atypical symptom of the nervous system. Many neurological disorders can manifest as dizziness. When patients have multiple neurological disorders, the most obvious diagnosis is often considered, and diseases that are potentially more deadly are overlooked. Here, we report the case of a man aged in his early 50s with dizziness who was found to have four neurological disorders. A series of treatments failed to resolve the condition. A review of this case highlights that when a patient’s symptoms are not typical, a comprehensive examination and evaluation is required to determine the etiology, and imaging may reveal further minor problems.

The reactions of the tungsten trisulfido complex of hydridotris(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)borate (Tp*) [[Et.sub.4]N][Tp*W[S.sub.3]] with 3 equiv CuCl in CH[Cl.sub.3] has yielded a tetranuclear anionic cluster. The third order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of these complexes are examined in solution under the femtosecond degenerate four-wave mixing method.

The new oxonitridosilicates Ln4−xSr2+xSi5N12−xOx (Ln = La, Ce) were synthesized by high temperature solid-state reactions. The crystal structures were solved and refined from both single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction data. These oxonitridosilicate compounds crystallize in the monoclinic space group P21/n (no. 14) and exhibit a double-layer structure made up of corner-sharing Si(O/N)4 tetrahedra. When excited with near-UV and blue light, the Pr3+ doped La2.31Sr3.69Si5N10.31O1.69 phosphor shows a narrow-band red emission peaking at 625 nm with a full width at half-maximum of 40 nm. We report a novel narrow-band blue emitting phosphor Sr7.92Mg7Si9N22:0.08Eu2+. The crystal structure of Sr8Mg7Si9N22 is composed of corner-sharing and edge-sharing [SiN4] tetrahedra and distorted square-pyramid [MgN5] polyhedra. Under 350 nm excitation, Eu2+ doped Sr8Mg7Si9N22 emits narrow-band blue light with maximum intensity at 450 nm and a fwhm of 38 nm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Purpose Micro RNAs have recently been shown to regulate the downstream bioprocesses of intracerebral hemorrhage. The aim of this study was to investigate whether mi RNAs can be used as biomarkers to predict secondary hematoma enlargement ( HE) in patients with ICH. Methods Consecutively, 79 ICH patients admitted within 6 h of symptom onset and 30 healthy individuals were enrolled in this study. Whole-genome mi RNA expression profiles were generated in 32 patients ( HE/non- HE: 14/18). Representative differentially expressed mi RNAs were measured in all cases ( HE/non- HE: 30/49) and normal controls (n = 30) by real-time PCR. Results Thirty mi RNAs showed differential expressions in the plasma samples from patients with HE as compared with the non- HE controls. Compared to the hierarchical cluster analysis with all probes on microarray, all patients were separated into two main branches with only four exceptions by 30 differentially expressed mi RNAs, improving the overall accuracy from 47.62 to 77.78% in the HE and 72.73 to 100% in the non- HE group. Further support vector machine ( SVM) test can discriminate the two groups with 100% accuracy with 10 differentially expressed mi RNAs. Conclusions We demonstrated that multiple mi RNAs are differentially expressed in the plasma of ICH patients with or without HE and may serve as circulating biomarkers for predicting HE after ICH. Compared to normal pulverized coal combustion (PC) fly ash, the SO3 content of circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) ash/slag is higher (exceeding 10% or more by weight), which tends to make a negative impact on the volume stability of the gel system, limiting the utilization of CFBC ash/slag as construction materials. In this study, the varieties of sulfur minerals in CFBC ash/slag were investigated by X-ray diffraction and chemical analysis. In addition, the distribution of sulfur minerals was also studied using sieving test, density separation test, SEM and EDS. The results show that the sulfur content in CFBC ash/slag exists mainly as II -anhydrite. The distribution of sulphur in CFBC ash/slag is non-uniform and most sulphur is presented in the denser particles with smaller diameter or higher density. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
