Six arsenic(III)-capped 12-tungsto-2-arsenates(III) of the type [M2(AsIIIW6O25)2(AsIIIOH)x]n- (M = CrIII, 1; FeIII, 2; ScIII, 3; InIII, 4; TiIV, 5; MnII, 6) have been synthesized in aqueous medium by direct reaction of the elements using a one-pot strategy and structurally characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, single-crystal XRD, and elemental analysis. Polyanions 1-6 are comprised of two octahedrally coordinated guest metal ions M sandwiched between two {AsW6} units, resulting in a structure with C2h point-group symmetry. Polyanions 1-5 contain tri- and tetravalent metal ion guests M (M = CrIII, FeIII, ScIII, InIII, and TiIV, respectively), and they have one {AsIIIOH} group grafted on each {AsW6} unit, whereas the divalent MnII-containing derivative 6 has two such {AsIIIOH} groups grafted on each {AsW6} unit. Magnetic studies on polyanions 3-5 over the temperature range 1.8-295 K and magnetic fields of 0-7 T confirmed that they are diamagnetic. On the other hand, polyanions 1, 2, and 6 are strongly magnetic and follow the Curie-Weiss law above 30 K. The susceptibility plots of 1 and 6 exhibit broad peaks suggesting short-range antiferromagnetic ordering, while the very weak antiferromagnetic ordering of 2 is overshadowed by traces of a paramagnetic impurity. The magnetization data of 1, 2, and 6 at 1.8 K over 0-7 T were analyzed by using the Heisenberg exchange procedure. Small (negative) values of the obtained J values help in understanding the absence of long-range antiferromagnetic ordering.

Biomass as a sustainable and abundant carbon source has attracted considerable attention as a potential alternative to petroleum resources. The selective oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), a versatile platform molecule, to value-added 2,5-diformylfuran (DFF) provides an efficient pathway for biomass valorization. Herein, three discrete imidazole-functionalized polyoxometalates (POMs), HPMo8VVI4O40(VVO)2[(VIVO)(IM)4]2·nH2O·(IM)m (IM = 1-methylimidazole, n = 4, m = 8 for 1; IM = 1-ethylimidazole, n = 4, m = 9 for 2; IM = 1-propylimidazole, n = 0, m = 4 for 3), have been successfully synthesized by a facile solvothermal method and thoroughly characterized by routine techniques. Compounds 1-3 contain a bi-capped pseudo-Keggin {HPMo8V4O40(VO)2} and two imidazole-functionalized {(VO)(IM)4} groups, which, to our knowledge, represent the first examples of organic-functionalized Mo-V clusters. Compounds 1-3 as heterogeneous catalysts can effectively promote the transformation of HMF to DFF using atmospheric O2 as oxidant. Under minimally optimized conditions, 95% of HMF was converted by 1 with 95% selectivity for DFF and its catalytic activity was basically maintained after five cycles. Moreover, the important roles of the bi-capped pseudo-Keggin cluster and the functionalized V groups in the selective oxidation of HMF have been explored. According to experimental and spectroscopic results, a three-step oxidation mechanism of HMF to DFF has been proposed.

Interaction of the trilacunary 9-tungstosilicate [A-α-SiW9O34]10- with cobalt(ii), nickel(ii) and zinc(ii) ions in pH 9 aqueous medium at room temperature led to the formation of the respective M4-containing heteropolytungstates [M4(OH)3(H2O)2(α-SiW10O36.5)2]13- (M = Co2+ (1), Ni2+ (2), and Zn2+ (3)). Polyanions 1-3 were characterized in the solid state by single-crystal XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. Electrochemical studies showed that the Co2+ ions in 1 can be oxidized to Co3+ and the CVs of the WVI centers of the polyanions feature well-defined and chemically reversible reduction waves. Magnetic measurements on 1 and 2 showed paramagnetism with complex ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. A model was presented for extracting the exchange constants for the magnetic exchange interaction.

We have discovered five bismuth(III)-containing polyoxopalladates (POPs) which were fully characterized by solution and solid-state physicochemical techniques: the cube-shaped [BiPd12O32(AsPh)8]5- (BiPd12AsL), [BiPd12O32(AsC6H4N3)8]5- (BiPd12AsLN), and [BiPd12O32(AsC6H4COO)8]13- (BiPd12AsLC) as well as the star-shaped [BiPd15O40(PO)10H6]11- (BiPd15P) and [BiPd15O40(PPh)10]7- (BiPd15PL), respectively. The organically modified capping groups phenylarsonate, p-azidophenylarsonate, and p-carboxyphenylarsonate were chosen as the azido (-N3) and carboxyl (-COOH) groups open up opportunities to covalently conjugate (via click reaction, amide coupling, etc.) with targeting vectors. The synthesis of p-azidophenylarsonate is reported here for the first time. The effects of the BiIII template and the organoarsonate vs -posphonate capping groups on the resulting POP shape (cube vs star) are discussed. The 209Bi NMR (I = 9/2) spectra of BiPd12AsL, BiPd12AsLN, and BiPd12AsLC revealed narrow peaks (ν1/2 ∼ 200 Hz) at 5470 ppm with a longitudinal relaxation time in the millisecond range (at 8.46 T). The absence of a quadrupolar relaxation contribution could be attributed to the allocation of BiIII in the highly symmetrical cuboid POP host cage. Similar peaks were absent in the 209Bi-NMR spectra of the star-shaped POPs BiPd15P and BiPd15PL due to the less symmetric coordination environment around the central BiIII ion. Further, 205/206Bi-radiolabeled POPs have been synthesized by incorporating a 205/206BiIII ion in the center of the POP structures. Carrier-free 205/206Bi radioisotopes (as surrogates of α-emitting 213Bi) were incorporated into the POP host-cage for the preparation of 205/206BiPd12AsL, 205/206BiPd12AsLN, 205/206BiPd12AsLC, and 205/206BiPd15PL, respectively. The radiometal incorporation was complete (>99% radiochemical yield) in 10 min according to radio-thin-layer chromatography. The 205/206BiPd12AsL polyanion was purified by solid-phase extraction. The incubation in rat serum showed the formation of a 205/206BiPd12AsL-protein aggregate.

Recently, the hydrolysis of nerve agents by Lewis acid catalysts has attracted considerable attention. The development of molecular catalysts, such as polyoxometalates (POMs) with Lewis acidic sites, is helpful to improve degradation efficiency and understand the catalytic mechanism at a molecular level. Herein, two novel Keggin-type POMs, namely, mono-Sc-substituted K4[Sc(H2O)PW11O39]·22H2O·2(CH3COOK) (1) and di-Sc-substituted Na7[Sc2(CH3COO)2PW10O38]·10H2O·2CH3COONa (2), have been successfully synthesized and thoroughly characterized by routine techniques. To our knowledge, 1 and 2 represent the first example of discrete Sc-substituted Keggin clusters. Compared with the reported Sc-containing POMs, 1 and 2 exhibit relatively good solubility and stability in aqueous solution, as evidenced by 31P nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The two Sc-substituted POMs can effectively catalyze the hydrolytic decontamination of dimethyl 4-nitrophenyl phosphate (DMNP), a nerve agent simulant, at near-neutral pH. Notably, the catalytic performance of 2 (conversion: 97%) is much better than that of 1 (conversion: 28%). It is found that the different coordination environment of Sc is the key factor to impact their activity. Mechanistic studies including the control experiments and spectroscopy analysis (13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry) show that under the turnover conditions the coordinated acetate dissociates from 2 and the exposed coordinatively unsaturated Sc center is more active than the water-coordinated Sc in 1 for binding with DMNP.

Three novel scandium-containing heteropolytungstates [Sc3(H2O)3NO3(PW9O34)2]10−(1a), [Sc8(H2O)2(GeW9O34)2(GeW6O26)2]12−(2a) and [Sc11(W6O10)2(OH)2(H2O)16(BiW9O33)6]27−(3a) were synthesized by reactions of ScIII ions with trilacunary Keggin precursors, [A-α-XW9O34]in−(X=P, Ge, in=9, 10) or [B-α-BiW9O33]9−, in NaOAc/HOAc buffer solution under conventional synthetic condition, respectively. All the three compounds were characterized by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction(XRD), Fourier transform-infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy ul-traviolet-visible(UV-Vis) spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The aqueous solution stability of the sandwich polyanion [Sc3(H2O)3NO3(PW9O34)2]10− was also verified by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry(ESI-MS) due to its good solubility in water.

We have synthesized and structurally characterized three tetra-(p-tolyl)antimony(III)-containing heteropolytungstates, [{(p-tolyl)SbIII}4(A-α-XW9O34)2]n- [X = PV (1-P), AsV (1-As), or GeIV (1-Ge)], in aqueous solution using conventional, one-pot procedures. The polyanions 1-P, 1-As, and 1-Ge were fully characterized in the solid state and in solution and were shown to be soluble and stable in aqueous medium at pH 7. Biological studies demonstrated that all three polyanions possess significant antibacterial and antitumor activities. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of 1-P, 1-As, and 1-Ge were determined against four kinds of bacteria, including the two pathogenic bacteria strains, Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Vibrio vulnificus. The three novel polyanions also showed high cytotoxic potency in the human cell lines A549 (non-small cell lung cancer), CH1/PA-1 (ovarian teratocarcinoma), and SW480 (colon carcinoma).

Upon simple UV-visible irradiation, a viologen-based coordination polymer was transformed to a highly stable radical, protected against quenching by a densely packed structure. The photo-generated radical exhibited a remarkable near-infrared (NIR) photothermal effect with good recyclability and high conversion efficiency. To our knowledge, this is the first example of a crystalline viologen-based coordination polymer that functions as a NIR photothermal material by forming stable radicals.

The first two examples of polyoxopalladates(II) (POPs) containing tetravalent metal ion guests, [MO8Pd12(PO4)8]12- (M = SnIV, PbIV), have been prepared and structurally characterized in the solid state, solution, and gas phase. The interactions of the metal ion guests and the palladium-oxo shell were studied by theoretical calculations. The POPs were shown to possess anticancer activity by causing oxidative stress inducing caspase activation and consecutive apoptosis of leukemic cells.

We have used discrete polyoxopalladates(II) (POPs) of the MPd12X8 nanocube- and Pd15X10 nanostar-types (M = central metal ion, X = capping group) as molecular precursors (diameter ca. 1 nm) for the formation of supported (SBA-15) metallic nanoparticles. These materials proved to be highly active in the hydrogenation of o-xylene. The characterization of such hydrogenation catalysts revealed that the average size of the resulting alloy particles is quite uniform with diameters ranging from 1 to 3 nm (indicating little to no agglomeration). The central transition-metal ion M n+ (MnII, FeIII, CoII, NiII, CuII, ZnII, PdII) in the POP structure and also the nature of the capping group (AsO43-, SeO32-, PO43-, phenyl-AsO32-) influence the resulting catalytic performance.

In order to develop an efficient and environmental friendly approach for epoxidation of soybean oil (SO), a series of hetero-catalysts, titanium silicalite-1 (TS-1) with different Si/Ti ratio (TS-1-x, x = 40, 70, 80), mesoporous TS-1-40 (MTS-1-40) and anatase TiO2, were prepared under controlled conditions. These different catalysts were characterized by various characterization methods like XRD, IR, UV–Vis, TGA, ICP, SEM, TEM and N2-adsorption, respectively, and the catalytic reaction experiments of the SO epoxidation were studied systematically using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as clean oxidant over the different catalysts. The results reveal that the TS-1-x catalysts exhibit higher epoxidation catalytic activity and less consumption of H2O2 than anatase TiO2, and the number of framework Ti sites in TS-1 structure played a very important role in their catalytic performance of the epoxidation reaction, which is attributed to the unique nature and coordination geometry of the Ti sites in TS-1 framework. Furthermore, the reusability and regeneration behaviors of TS-1-40 catalyst were also studied.

Lanthanide (Ln)-containing polyoxometalates (POMs) have attracted particular attention owing to their structural diversity and potential applications in luminescence, magnetism, and catalysis. Herein three types of Ln-containing tungstotellurates(VI) (Ln = Dy3+, Ho3+, Er3+, Tm3+, Yb3+, and Lu3+), dimeric (DMAH)n[H22−n{Ln(H2O)3[TeW17O61]}2]·mH2O (abbreviated as {Ln2Te2W34}; DMAH+ = dimethylammonium), mono-substituted (DMAH)7Na2{H2Ln(H2O)4[TeW17O61]}·mH2O (abbreviated as {LnTeW17}), and three-dimensional (3D) inorganic frameworks (DMAH)n{H3−nLn(H2O)4[TeW6O24]}·mH2O (abbreviated as {LnTeW6}), have been synthesized by using simple metal salts and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other routine techniques. Interestingly, the assembly of these POMs is pH dependent. Using the same starting materials, {Ln2Te2W34} were obtained at pH 1.7, where two Dawson-like monovacant [TeW17O61]14− are linked by two Ln3+ ions; mono-substituted Dawson-like {LnTeW17} were isolated at pH 1.9, and 3D inorganic framework {LnTeW6} based on Anderson-type [TeW6O24]6− were formed at pH 2.3. It was also found that the assembly of Ln-containing POMs depends on the type of Ln3+ ions. The three types of POMs can be prepared by using Ln3+ ions with a relatively smaller ionic radius, such as Tb3+-Lu3+, while the use of Ln3+ ions (La3+-Eu3+) results in the formation of precipitation or {TeW18O62} clusters. Furthermore, three {LnTeW6} (Ln = Tb3+, Er3+, Lu3+) were used as Lewis acid catalysts for the cyanosilylation of benzaldehydes, and their catalytic activity decreases with the decrease of Ln3+ ionic radius, giving the order: {TbTeW6} > {ErTeW6} > {LuTeW6}. Notably, {TbTeW6} is stable to leaching and can be reused for five cycles without a significant loss of its activity.

We report the synthesis and characterization of two discrete vanadoniobates, H6Cs4Na5K7[V5Nb23O80]·28H2O (1) and H6Cs4Na5K8[V6Nb23O81]·34H2O (2), based on a brand new {Nb23} and a 5/6-nuclear polyoxovanadate cap. The two vanadoniobates as heterogeneous catalysts can effectively promote the oxidative decontamination of sulfur mustard simulants.

We report the syntheses and structures of two new copper(II)-containing tungstotellurates(VI) Na12[TeVI2W8O38Cu2(H2O)2]·7H2O (Te2W8Cu2) and Na6[TeVIW6O24Cu(NH2CH2CO2)2]·6H2O (TeW6Cu). The two compounds were synthesized by a simple one-pot method and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), powder XRD, FT-IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis in the solid state. Furthermore, their catalytic properties for the selective oxidation of thioethers were also studied systematically. The catalytic experiment results indicate that the tungstotellurate(VI) Te2W8Cu2 is an effective heterogeneous catalyst for the selective oxidation of thioethers to sulfoxides or sulfones by an H2O2 oxidant at room temperature. Under the ambient conditions, Te2W8Cu2 can convert 99% of methyl(phenyl)sulfane to sulfoxides or sulfones with 96% or 99% selectivity, respectively, and the utilization rate of H2O2 is up to 80%. Furthermore, Te2W8Cu2 as a heterogeneous catalyst is stable in the reaction and could be reused at least five cycles with conserved activity.

The palladium(II)-containing 40-tungsto-4-arsenate(III) [Pd2Na2KAs4W40O140(H2O)](21-) (1a) was synthesized by reaction of PdSO4 with the cryptate heteropolyanion [As4W40O140](28-) in potassium acetate buffer. The title compound was characterized by single-crystal XRD, IR, TGA, and elemental analysis.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with long-term stability and reversible high water uptake properties can be ideal candidates for water harvesting and indoor humidity control. Now, a mesoporous and highly stable MOF, BIT-66 is presented that has indoor humidity control capability and a photocatalytic bacteriostatic effect. BIT-66 (V3 (O)3 (H2 O)(BTB)2 ), possesses prominent moisture tunability in the range of 45-60 % RH and a water uptake and working capacity of 71 and 55 wt %, respectively, showing good recyclability and excellent performance in water adsorption-desorption cycles. Importantly, this MOF demonstrates a unique photocatalytic bacteriostatic behavior under visible light, which can effectively ameliorate the bacteria and/or mold breeding problem in water adsorbing materials.

Here we report on the synthesis and structural characterization of the dithallium(III)-containing 30-tungsto -4-phosphate [Tl2Na2(H2O)2{P2W15O56}2]16- (1) by a multitude of solid-state and solution techniques. Polyanion 1 comprises two octahedrally coordinated Tl3+ ions sandwiched between two trilacunary {P2W15} Wells-Dawson fragments and represents only the second structurally characterized, discrete thallium-containing polyoxometalate to date. The two outer positions of the central rhombus are occupied by sodium ions. The title polyanion is solution-stable as shown by 31P and 203/205Tl NMR. This was also supported by Tl NMR spectra simulations including several spin systems of isotopologues with half-spin nuclei (203Tl, 205Tl, 31P, 183W). 23Na NMR showed a time-averaged signal of the Na+ counter cations and the structurally bonded Na+ ions. 203/205Tl NMR spectra also showed a minor signal tentatively attributed to the trithallium-containing derivative [Tl3Na(H2O)2(P2W15O56)2]14-, which could also be identified in the solid state by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The bioactivity of polyanion 1 was also tested against bacteria and Leishmania.

An ionic crystal assembled by PNb12O40(VO)6 and tris(1,2-diaminopropane)cobalt complexes was hydrothermally isolated and structurally characterized by routine methods. The compound exhibits three-dimensional channels with a pore size of 3.68 A × 2.30 A and composed of hydrophilic oxygen atoms of polyanions and hydrophobic −CH3 groups of 1,2-diaminopropane ligands. With increasing vapor pressure, the compound shows preferable adsorption toward water over alcohols, and a gate-opening behavior was deduced from the water adsorption isotherm.

An efficacious approach to improve the catalytic performance of titanium silicalite-1 (TS-1) catalysts in epoxidation of allyl chloride with hydrogen peroxide has been developed. A series of modified TS-1 catalysts were prepared by corroding the classic TS-1 catalyst with different concentrations of tetrapropyl ammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) under controlled conditions. The resultant catalyst samples were characterized by XRD, ICP, N 2 -adsorption, FT-IR, UV–vis, SEM and TEM. The catalytic activity of the modified TS-1 catalysts is significantly improved, which could be attributed to the increase of the mesopore volume and pore diameter and decrease of the diffusion limitation but without obvious changes of the framework structure, framework Ti content, the outer surface shape and crystal size of the modified TS-1. Furthermore, the kinetics of the epoxidation of allyl chloride over TS-1-0.05 catalyst was also systematically studied, the apparent orders of reaction with respect to H 2 O 2 and allyl chloride are 0.68 and 0.62, respectively, and the activation energy of the epoxidation reaction on the TS-1-0.05 catalyst is 57.4 kJ mol −1 .

A novel double-anion complex, H13[(CH3)4N]12[PNb12O40(VVO)2⋅(VIV4O12)2]⋅22 H2O (1), based on bicapped polyoxoniobate and tetranuclear polyoxovanadate was synthesized, characterized by routine techniques and used in the catalytic decontamination of chemical warfare agents. Under mild conditions, 1 catalyzes both hydrolysis of the nerve agent simulant, diethyl cyanophosphonate (DECP) and selective oxidation of the sulfur mustard simulant, 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfide (CEES). In the oxidative decontamination system 100 % CEES was transformed selectively to nontoxic 2-chloroethyl ethyl sulfoxide and vinyl ethyl sulfoxide using nearly stoichiometric 3 % aqueous H2O2 with a turnover frequency (TOF) of 16 000 h−1. Importantly, the catalytic activity is maintained even after ten recycles and CEES is completely decontaminated in 3 mins without formation of the highly toxic sulfone by-product. A three-step oxidative mechanism is proposed.

Two ionic organic–inorganic hybrid compounds, [CuII(C2N2H8)2]4[CuII(C2N2H8)2(H2O)2]2[PNb12O40VVVIVO2]·(OH)2·11H2O (1) and [CoIII(C2N2H8)3]2[CoIII(C2N2H8)2(H2O)2]0.5[H2.5PNb12O40 VVVIVO2]·20H2O (2), based on P-centered dicapped polyoxoniobates and organometallic cations were isolated and structurally characterized by routine techniques. The trivalent cobalt complex-containing compound exhibits a looser arrangement compared with its divalent copper complex-containing counterpart, with a space volume of 34.9% for the former and 17.0% for the latter. The two compounds were proved to be effective in facilitating the oxidation of benzyl-alkanes to ketone products in a heterogeneous manner, evidencing the feasiblity of the strategy of self-immobilization of catalytically active, readily soluble PNb12O40(VO)2 species in crystalline solids.

We introduce the class of discrete silver(I)-palladium(II)-oxo nanoclusters with the preparation of {Ag4Pd13} and {Ag5Pd15}. Both polyanions represent the first examples of noble metal-capped polyoxo-noble-metalates in a fully inorganic assembly, featuring an unprecedented host–guest mode containing hetero- and homometallic Ag–Pd and Ag–Ag bonding interactions. Comprehensive theoretical calculations suggest that the Ag–Pd metallic bonds originate partially from surface confinement of AgI guest ions onto the anionic polyoxopalladate host that is induced by strong electrostatic forces. This work opens the field of fully inorganic silver-palladium-oxo nanoclusters, which can be considered as discrete mixed noble metal precursors for the formation of monodisperse core–shell nanoparticles, with high relevance for catalysis.

Umfassende theoretische Studien deuten darauf hin, dass die Ag-Pd-Metallbindungen teilweise von einem Polyanion-Oberflacheneffekt auf die AgI-Gastionen herruhren, der durch starke elektrostatische Krafte induziert wird. Diese Arbeit eroffnet ein Gebiet komplett anorganischer Silber-Palladium-Oxo-Nanocluster, die als Vorstufen fur die Bildung monodisperser Kern-Schale-Nanopartikel angesehen werden konnen, welche eine hohe Relevanz im Bereich der Katalyse haben.

Magnetic studies demonstrated that, in the solid state, the two polyanions exhibit a weak antiferromagnetic interaction between the two CrIII centers with J = -3.5 ± 0.5 cm-1, with no long-range ordering down to 1.8 K. The ground-state spin of polyanions 1 and 2 was thus deduced to be 0, but the detection of a complex set of EPR signals implies that there are thermally accessible excited states containing unpaired spins resulting from the two S = 3/2 CrIII ions. A comprehensive electrochemistry study on 1 and 2 in solution was performed, and biological tests showed that both polyanions display significant antidiabetic and anticancer activities.

We have synthesized and structurally characterized the first discrete thallium-containing polyoxometalate, [Tl2{B-β-SiW8O30(OH)}2]12– (1). Polyanion 1 was characterized in the solid-state and shown to be solution-stable by 203/205Tl NMR, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and electrochemical studies. The antibacterial activity of 1 was also investigated.

The reaction of [γ-SiW10O36]8– with Mn2+ and Ln3+ in an aqueous solution led to the isolation of a series of new lanthanide-containing sandwich-type polyoxometalates (POMs) [{Ln(H2O)n}2{Mn4(B-α-SiW9O34)2(H2O)2}]6– (1–5a) (Ln = La (1), Nd (2), Gd (3), Dy (4), Er (5); n = 5, 6), which crystallize in the space groups C2/c with a = 33.0900(2)–32.9838(15) A, b = 12.8044(10)–12.7526(6) A, c = 22.8273(17)–22.6368(11) A, V = 9669.2(12)–9519.7(8) A3, Z = 2 (1, 2); P1 with a = 11.9502(4)–11.8447(6) A, b = 13.2203(4)–13.1164(5) A, c = 15.8291(5)–15.8524(7) A, V = 2221.25(13)–2189.95(18) A3, Z = 1 (3, 4, 5), respectively. Four hemihydrates (HH-I, HH-II, HH-III, and HH-IV) and two monohydrates (MH-I, MH-II) of diosgenin, a steroid sapogenin, have been prepared. Hydrates HH-I, HH-III, HH-IV, MH-I, and MH-II have been thoroughly characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. Although in these cases diosgenin has a similar conformation, hydrogen bonding interactions connect diosgenin and the lattice water molecule into different supermolecular structures. More importantly, three controlling factors, including initial concentration, water volume fraction, and solvent, have been investigated in the crystallization of diosgenin hydrates. The polyoxo-22-palladate [Na2PdII22O12(AsVO4)15(AsVO3OH)]25− (1), which represents a novel polyoxo-noble-metalate structural type, was synthesized by reaction of Pd2+ and AsO43− ions in aqueous solution. Polyanion 1 comprises two {NaPd11} units linked by two arsenate bridges, and hence represents the first example of a defect, monolacunary {Pd11} polyoxopalladate nanocube with arsenate capping groups. Cleaning space debris with laser is a hot topic in the field of space security research. Impulse characteristics are the basis of cleaning space debris with laser. In order to study the impulse characteristics of rotating irregular space debris irradiated by multi-pulse laser, the impulse calculation method of rotating space debris irradiated by multi-pulse laser is established based on the area matrix method. The calculation method of impulse and impulsive moment under multi-pulse irradiation is given. The calculation process of total impulse under multi-pulse irradiation is analyzed. With a typical non-planar space debris (cube) as example, the impulse characteristics of space debris irradiated by multi-pulse laser are simulated and analyzed. The effects of initial angular velocity, spot size and pulse frequency on impulse characteristics are investigated.

By the combination of Pd-complexes and [V10O28]6-, three Pd-decavanadate compounds [Pd(NH3)4]3[V10O28]·8H2O (1), [Pd(deta)(H2O)]2(NH4)2[V10O28]·2H2O (2) (deta = diethylenetriamine) and [Pd(dpa)2](Hdpa)2(Et3NH)2[V10O28]·2H2O (3) (dpa = 2,2'-dipyridylamine) have been successfully synthesized and thoroughly characterized using single X-ray diffraction (SXRD), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and elemental analyses (EA). Interestingly, in the three compounds, the molar ratios of Pd to decavanadate vary from 3 : 1 to 1 : 1 by changing N-ligands. The three Pd-decavanadates as heterogeneous catalysts are active in the aerobic oxidation of benzylic hydrocarbons under solvent-free conditions without adding any additives and co-catalysts. Moreover, compound 1 can be reused three times without losing its activity.

A family of three sandwich-type, phenylantimony(III)-containing tungstoarsenates(III), [(PhSb(III) ){Na(H2 O)}As(III) 2 W19 O67 (H2 O)](11-) (1), [(PhSb(III) )2 As(III) 2 W19 O67 (H2 O)](10-) (2), and [(PhSb(III) )3 (B-α-As(III) W9 O33 )2 ](12-) (3), have been synthesized by one-pot procedures and isolated as hydrated alkali metal salts, Cs3 K3.5 Na4.5 [(PhSb(III) ){Na(H2 O)}As(III) 2 W19 O67 (H2 O)]⋅41H2 O (CsKNa-1), Cs4.5 K5.5 [(PhSb(III) )2 As(III) 2 W19 O67 (H2 O)]⋅35H2 O (CsK-2), and Cs4.5 Na7.5 [(PhSb(III) )3 (B-α-As(III) W9 O33 )2 ]⋅42H2 O (CsNa-3). The number of incorporated {PhSb(III) } units could be selectively tuned from one to three by careful control of the reaction parameters. The three compounds were characterized in the solid state by single-crystal XRD, IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The aqueous solution stability of sandwich polyanions 1-3 was also studied by multinuclear ((1) H, (13) C, (183) W) NMR spectroscopy. Effective inhibitory activity against six different kinds of bacteria was identified for all three polyanions, for which the activity increased with the number of incorporated {PhSb(III) } groups.

Three new salts, [H3N(CH2)2NH3][can]·2H2O (1), [H3N(CH2)3NH3][can]·2H2O (2), and [NH4][Hcan] (3), of the minimally soluble antihypertensive drug, Candesartan (H2can), have been prepared by solvent-assisted grinding. Salts 1–3 also have been thoroughly characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. In the case of 1 and 2, two protons of carboxyl and tetrazole groups of Candesartan transfer to the diamine, resulting in salts where both hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions that link the Candesartan and diamine (diammonium) units into a one-dimensional supramolecular ribbon. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)pyrimidin-2(1H)-ones react with trimethylsilyl cyanide in the presence of a tertiary amine catalyst to give Michael-like 1,4-conjugate hydrocyanation adducts exclusively at the 3,6-positions. The resulting 2-oxo-6-(trifluoromethyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrimidine-4-carbonitriles have been used to synthesize new trifluoromethylated 4,5-dihydroorotic acid analogues and their esters in racemic as well as enantiopure forms by a chiral auxiliary approach. The orthogonal intramolecular C–F···C=O interaction between the fluorine atom of the CF3 group and the carbon atom of the ester group observed in the crystal state may stabilize the sterically unfavourable conformation of the methyl 2-oxo-6-(trifluoromethyl)hexahydropyrimidine-4-carboxylate molecule with axially oriented substituents.
