In this paper, in order to improve the mechanical properties of high-entropy fluorite oxides (HEFOs), five equimolar multicomponent oxides were synthesized by solid-phase reaction method by using element Y replacing one of the five cations in (Ce0.2Zr0.2La0.2Sm0.2Nd0.2)O2-δ. The substitution of La, Sm or Nd in (Ce0.2Zr0.2La0.2Sm0.2Nd0.2)O2-δ with Y element are able to form single-phase HEFOs at 1600 °C, while Ce4+ and Zr4+ replaced by Y3+ contains a large number of secondary phase. The former three components are almost dense and smooth, and all the elements are uniformly distributed with no obvious segregation and agglomeration. The Ce3+ concentration of Y-substituted Sm HEFOs is calculated to be 13.7%, yielding a nominal composition of (Ce0.2Zr0.2Y0.2Sm0.2Nd0.2)O1.6863. In addition, the HEFOs have the best mechanical properties with Vickers hardnesses, flexural strengths and fracture toughnesses of 15.12 GPa, 101.1 MPa and 7.88 MPa-mm1/2, respectively, which have potential applications in high-performance structural materials.

Abstract Greenhouses need to supply CO2 to crops while simultaneously emitting CO2. To effectively harness the dual functionality of greenhouses as a carbon source and carbon consumer, this work incorporates carbon capture and emissions trading into a multi‐energy greenhouse (MEG), which is equipped with various power and heat sources such as photovoltaic (PV) panels and a combined heat and power (CHP) unit and proposes that the captured CO2 should be used to feed crops on‐site. A low‐carbon economic operation method is proposed for the coordinated environment‐energy‐carbon management of the MEG, and it considers various factors, including the power purchase/carbon supply costs, carbon emissions trading income, temperature/humidity/light intensity and CO2 concentration requirements for crops, and operational constraints of various energy/environmental regulation equipment. The proposed method is validated using a tomato MEG. The results highlight the significant economic and environmental benefits of introducing carbon capture, emissions trading, and utilisation into MEGs.

Background: Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation may increase the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness in the elderly. However, prevention measures of UV radiation at population-level remain lacking, exacerbating the health inequity. Given the protective effect of residential greenness on human health, we aim to identify the impact of greenness on the UV-AMD association. Methods: We used data from 19,832 participants in a national cohort in China conducted from 2018 to 2023. Satellite-based models and ophthalmological fundus images were used to evaluate the exposures (UV radiation and residential greenness) and outcome (incident AMD), respectively. The effects of UV radiation, residential greenness, and their interplay on incident AMD were furtherly estimated through multiple Cox proportional hazard models. Results: A total of 3800 incident AMD cases were diagnosed during follow-up. Higher UV radiation elevated the hazard of incident AMD, while excessive greenness showed a significant protective effect, with hazard ratios of 1.35 (1.29, 1.41) and 0.90 (0.86, 0.94) for per tertile increment, respectively. These relationships remained consistent in two-exposure models, and a significant modification effect of greenness on the UV-AMD association was observed. Notably, when the residential greenness over 0.4, the hazard of UV on incident AMD became non-significant. This greenness threshold remained consistent across rural-urban and south-north subgroups. Conclusion: Maintaining the residential greenness above 0.4, as a low-cost measure at population-level, could mitigate the UV-AMD association and facilitate the health equity in China, regardless of the regions.

Abstract In power network systems, there is an urgent demand for highly accurate and miniaturized sensors, owing to their high safety level and limited installation space. Current sensors in high‐voltage grids are required to accommodate harsh environments and provide accurate measurements of several kiloamperes. Thus, this study proposed an integrated quantum diamond sensor to facilitate high‐accuracy, large‐dynamic‐range current measurements. The design incorporated optical fiber and directional microwave (MW) antennas to drive the diamond sensor, which significantly reduced the size and power consumption on the high‐voltage side. Remote‐control and demodulation systems are installed more than 10 m away from the low‐voltage side. The proposed approach achieved zero power consumption on the high‐voltage side and ensured efficient signal transmission. A passive diamond probe manufactured using microfabrication processes facilitated miniaturization and practical deployment. Through parameter optimization, a magnetic detection sensitivity of 4.86 nT·Hz−1/2 is achieved at a safe distance of 11 m, which can be further optimized to 0.77 nT·Hz−1/2 with enhanced MW power. This sensor achieved a current measurement error of ±0.4% in the 1000 A measurement range. Thus, this study provides a new solution for the application of diamond quantum sensors in power systems.

Abstract Abnormal expression of circRNAs has been observed in different types of carcinomas, and they play significant roles in the biology of these cancers. Nevertheless, the clinical relevance and functional mechanisms of the majority of circRNAs implicated in breast cancer progression remain unclear. The primary objective of our investigation is to uncover new circRNAs in breast cancer and elucidate the underlying mechanisms by which they exert their effects. The circRNA expression profile data for breast cancer and RNA-sequencing data were acquired from distinct public databases. Differentially expressed circRNAs and mRNA were identified through fold change filtering. The establishment of the competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) network relied on the interplay between circular RNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs. The hub genes were identified from the protein–protein interaction (PPI) regulatory network using the CytoHubba plugin in Cytoscape. Moreover, the expression levels and prognostic value of these hub genes in the PPI network were assessed using the GEPIA and Kaplan–Meier plotter databases. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was used to identified the expression and intracellular localization of hsa_circ_0059665 by using the tissue microarray. Transwell analysis and CCK-8 analysis were performed to assess the invasion, migration, and proliferation abilities of breast cancer cells. Additionally, we investigated the interactions between hsa_circ_0059665 and miR-602 through various methods, including FISH, RNA-binding protein immunoprecipitation (RIP), and luciferase reporter assay. Rescue experiments were conducted to determine the potential regulatory role of hsa_circ_0059665 in breast cancer progression. A total of 252 differentially expressed circRNAs were identified. Among them, 246 circRNAs were up-regulated, while 6 circRNAs were down-regulated. Based on prediction and screening of circRNA-miRNA and miRNA-mRNA binding sites, we constructed a network consisting of circRNA-miRNA-mRNA interactions. In addition, we constructed a Protein–Protein Interaction (PPI) network and identified six hub genes. Moreover, the expression levels of these six hub genes in breast cancer tissues were found to be significantly lower. Furthermore, the survival analysis results revealed a significant correlation between low expression levels of KIT, FGF2, NTRK2, CAV1, LEP and poorer prognosis in breast cancer patients. The FISH experiment results indicated that hsa_circ_0059665 exhibits significant downregulation in breast cancer, and its decreased expression is linked to poor prognosis in breast cancer patients. Functional in vitro experiments revealed that overexpression of hsa_circ_0059665 can inhibit proliferation, migration and invasion abilities of breast cancer cells. Further molecular mechanism studies showed that hsa_circ_0059665 exerts its anticancer gene role by acting as a molecular sponge for miR-602. In our study, we constructed and analyzed a circRNA-related ceRNA regulatory network and found that hsa_circ_0059665 can act as a sponge for miR-602 and inhibit the proliferation, invasion and migration of breast cancer cells.

Background/Aims: Ketogenic diet (KD) may benefit patients with liver cancer, but the underlying mechanism of its anti-cancer effect remains an open issue. This work aimed to explore the influence of simulated KD on the proliferation and migration of cultured hepatoma cells. Materials and Methods: The low-glucose medium supplemented with β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB-Glow) was utilized to simulate clinical KD treatment. Western blot was utilized for detecting the expression of glycolysis-related proteins, Seahorse XF96 for oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR), and ELISA for insulin content. Expression of FOXC2 in liver cancer cells was analyzed by bioinformatics and qPCR. Cell Count Kit-8 (CCK-8) testing kit was utilized for testing cell viability. Results: KD treatment significantly reduced the expression of glycolysis-related proteins in Huh-7 cells, inhibited insulin production in β islet cells, reduced ECAR, and increased OCR. FOXC2 was significantly up-regulated in Huh-7 cell line, and sh-FOXC2 hindered the proliferation and migration of Huh-7 cells. The exogenous addition of insulin promoted the malignant progression of Huh-7 cells. Together, the medium simulating KD environment strengthened the protection of liver cancer cells by reducing insulin production and down-regulating FOXC2 expression. Conclusion: This study confirmed through in vitro cell experiments that KD could inhibit the proliferation and migration of liver cancer cells by targeting down regulation of insulin and FOXC2 expression, providing new theoretical basis for the treatment of liver cancer patients.

Abstract Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is among the most prevalent cancers and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality globally. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from NSCLC play a pivotal role in lung cancer progression. Our findings reveal a direct correlation between the abundance of EVs and the transfection efficiencies. Co-culturing two different lung cancer cell lines could enhance EVs formation, cell proliferation, migration and tumorigenicity. mRNA chip and metabolic analyses revealed significant alterations in the FOXO signaling pathway and unsaturated fatty acid metabolism within tumor tissues derived from co-cultured cells. Shotgun lipidomics studies and bioinformatics analyses guided our attention towards 4-Hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) and FOXO4. Elevating 4-HNE or FOXO4 levels could reduce the formation of EVs and impede cell growth and migration. While silencing FOXO4 expression lead to an increase in cell cloning rate and enhanced migration. These findings suggest that regulating the production of 4-HNE and FOXO4 might provide an effective therapeutic approach for the treatment of NSCLC.

Background and objective: Empowering rural life through digital technology reflects the collective aspirations of millions of farmers striving for a better quality of life. Ensuring that the benefits of digital advancements reach every corner of the population is a crucial and inevitable choice. To expedite the establishment of an inclusive digital life for all citizens, the Chinese government has exerted substantial efforts by positioning the development of digital villages as a national strategy. Through comprehensive initiatives in digital village construction, facilitating the extension of ''Internet+'' services such as education, healthcare, transportation, and entertainment to rural areas. 24-hour digital village libraries, smart health stations, intelligent homes, facial recognition payments, unmanned supermarkets, and a variety of digitized, networked, and intelligent lifestyle applications are increasingly prevalent in Chinese rural regions. The digital gap between urban and rural areas in China is gradually diminishing, and the ongoing evolution of rural digital lifestyles paints a picturesque picture of an enhanced rural life. This study endeavors to provide a meticulous analysis of the digital landscape in Chinese villages, seeking to unravel the intricacies behind the swift development of rural digital life. Methods: Using the top 100 counties in China's 2020 Rural Life Digitization Index ranking as case studies, this research collected the necessary data through industry research reports and official statistical sources. To begin with, based on the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) analysis framework, variables such as digital infrastructure, government policy support, funds are put into utilization, digital economy level, and farmer digital literacy were identified. The fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) method was then employed to recognize the influencing factors of rural digital life and combinations of condition variables. Subsequently, utilizing the system dynamics methodology, the relationships between factors were analyzed, simulating changes in rural digital life development to gain a deeper understanding of the key elements affecting rural digital life. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to further reveal the extent of influence of these key elements on rural digital life. Results: The fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis reveals that the evolution of rural digital life in China is a complex outcome influenced by the simultaneous interplay of multiple factors. It demonstrates a pattern of diverse combinations and parallel pathways encompassing various variables. Among these configurations, six paths stand out with the highest coverage. These six paths can be further classified into three modes of rural digital life development in China: environment-empowered type, organization-pushed type, and compound-driven type. Further dissection of causal combinations through a system dynamics model unveils that the progression of rural digital life is intricately linked to key factors such as information infrastructure, policy intensity, and digital learning and development. Over time, there is a discernible upward trajectory in the level of rural digital life, characterized by an accelerating pace of improvement. The influence of policy intensity on rural digital life surpasses that of information infrastructure and digital learning and development, indicating that policy intensity exerts the most significant impact overall. Conclusion: The evolution of rural digital life in China is a complex, long-term process propelled by a combination of multiple factors. China's experience demonstrates that achieving high-level development in rural digital life demands attention not only to the synergistic interplay of various factors but also a strategic focus on leveraging specific key elements. This entails skillfully integrating diverse factors and identifying pivotal areas to maximize the impact of relevant conditions to the greatest extent possible.

The association between the exposure of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and serum uric acid (UA) levels remained uncertain. In this study, to investigate the combined effects of OCP mixtures on hyperuricemia, we analyzed serum OCPs and UA levels in adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2005–2016). Four statistical models including weighted logistic regression, weighted quantile sum (WQS), quantile g-computation (QGC), and bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) were used to assess the relationship between mixed chemical exposures and hyperuricemia. Subgroup analyses were conducted to explore potential modifiers. Among 6,529 participants, the prevalence of hyperuricemia was 21.15%. Logistic regression revealed a significant association between both hexachlorobenzene (HCB) and trans-nonachlor and hyperuricemia in the fifth quintile (OR: 1.54, 95% CI: 1.08–2.19; OR: 1.58, 95% CI: 1.05–2.39, respectively), utilizing the first quintile as a reference. WQS and QGC analyses showed significant overall effects of OCPs on hyperuricemia, with an OR of 1.25 (95% CI: 1.09–1.44) and 1.20 (95% CI: 1.06–1.37), respectively. BKMR indicated a positive trend between mixed OCPs and hyperuricemia, with HCB having the largest weight in all three mixture analyses. Subgroup analyses revealed that females, individuals aged 50 years and above, and those with a low income were more vulnerable to mixed OCP exposure. These results highlight the urgent need to protect vulnerable populations from OCPs and to properly evaluate the health effects of multiple exposures on hyperuricemia using mutual validation approaches.

Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) prevention requires early detection and removal of adenomas. We aimed to develop a computational model for real-time detection and classification of colorectal adenoma. Computationally constrained background based on real-time detection, we propose an improved adaptive lightweight ensemble model for real-time detection and classification of adenomas and other polyps. Firstly, we devised an adaptive lightweight network modification and effective training strategy to diminish the computational requirements for real-time detection. Secondly, by integrating the adaptive lightweight YOLOv4 with the single shot multibox detector network, we established the adaptive small object detection ensemble (ASODE) model, which enhances the precision of detecting target polyps without significantly increasing the model's memory footprint. We conducted simulated training using clinical colonoscopy images and videos to validate the method's performance, extracting features from 1148 polyps and employing a confidence threshold of 0.5 to filter out low-confidence sample predictions. Finally, compared to state-of-the-art models, our ASODE model demonstrated superior performance. In the test set, the sensitivity of images and videos reached 87.96% and 92.31%, respectively. Additionally, the ASODE model achieved an accuracy of 92.70% for adenoma detection with a false positive rate of 8.18%. Training results indicate the effectiveness of our method in classifying small polyps. Our model exhibits remarkable performance in real-time detection of colorectal adenomas, serving as a reliable tool for assisting endoscopists.

The effects of Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) at a concentration of 1.0 × 108 CFU/mL on growth performance, hepatic lipid metabolism, and mRNA expression related to lipid metabolism, intestinal morphology, and intestinal flora were investigated in geese. A total of 60 male geese, aged 30 days and of similar weight, were randomly assigned to 2 groups. Each group was divided into six replicates, with five geese per replicate. During the 45-day experiment, the control group received a basal diet, while the experimental group was provided with the same basal diet supplemented with E. faecalis in drinking water at a concentration of 1.0 × 108 CFU/mL. E. faecalis significantly increased the half-eviscerated weight of geese and improved ileal intestinal morphology (p < 0.05). Serum triglyceride (TG) levels were significantly reduced on day 5, while serum total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels were significantly decreased on day 25 (p < 0.05). By day 45, serum TG and free fatty acid (FFA) levels were also significantly reduced (p < 0.05). Additionally, E. faecalis significantly increased the HDL/LDL ratio and serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels (p < 0.05). Serum insulin levels were significantly elevated on day 25, and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) levels were significantly increased on day 45 (p < 0.05). On day 25 of the trial, hepatic TG levels, FFA levels, and Oil Red O-stained areas in the liver were significantly reduced (p < 0.05), accompanied by significantly decreased mRNA expression of hepatic acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCA) (p < 0.05). Conversely, the mRNA expression levels of fatty acid synthase (FASN), farnesoid X receptor (FXR), sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP-1), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPARα) were significantly elevated (p < 0.05). A 16S rRNA diversity analysis of ileal contents on day 25 revealed significant differences in intestinal flora composition between the control and E. faecalis groups. The 16S rRNA data demonstrated a strong correlation between microbial communities and lipid-related physiological and biochemical indicators (p < 0.05). In conclusion, E. faecalis supplementation promoted fatty acid oxidation, reduced blood lipid levels, alleviated hepatic lipid accumulation, and improved ileal morphology and intestinal flora diversity, thereby enhancing growth performance and lipid metabolism in geese. These findings suggest that E. faecalis is a promising probiotic candidate for development as a feed additive.

BackgroundEvidence shows that the total flavonoids of Rhizoma Drynariae (TFRD) can improve bone mineral density (BMD). However, there is no evidence to summarize the improvement of biochemical indicators of bone metabolism (BIBM).MethodsThe PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database, Chongqing VIP Information Database (VIP) and SinoMed were searched from inception to 6 May 2024. The final included studies performed meta-analyses using RevMan 5.3.ResultsNine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were ultimately included. The TFRD group had higher bone gla protein (BGP) and type I procollagen-N-propeptide (PINP) compared to the Other therapies (WMD: 5.11; 95% CI: 3.37, 6.84; p < 0.00001; WMD: 13.89; 95% CI: 11.81, 15.97; p < 0.00001). The tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP) decreased significantly (WMD: −1.34; 95% CI: −1.62, −1.06; p < 0.00001). The alkaline phosphatase (ALP) increased significantly (WMD: 7.47; 95% CI: 6.29, 8.66; p < 0.00001). There were no significant differences in serum calcium (SC) or serum phosphorus (SP) levels between the TFRD and control groups (WMD: 0.08; 95% CI: −0.04, 0.20; p = 0.17; WMD: 0.02; 95% CI: −0.02, 0.05; p = 0.36).ConclusionTFRD can stimulate bone formation and prevent bone resorption in osteoporosis (OP) patients, but it has no effect on SC and SP.Systematic Review Registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/.

Abstract Background Cholesterol (CHO) is an essential component of the body. However, high CHO levels in the body can damage bone mass and promote osteoporosis. CHO accumulation can cause osteoblast apoptosis, which has a negative effect on bone formation. The pathogenesis of osteoporosis is a complicate process that includes oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and inflammation. Geniposide (GEN) is a natural compound with anti-osteoporotic effect. However, the roles of GEN in osteopathogenesis are still unclear. Our previous studies demonstrated that GEN could reduce the accumulation of CHO in osteoblasts and the activation of ER stress in osteoblasts. However, the molecular mechanism of GEN in inhibiting CHO-induced apoptosis in osteoblasts needs to be further investigated. Methods MC3T3-E1 cells were treated with osteogenic induction medium (OIM). Ethanol-solubilized cholesterol (100 µM) was used as a stimulator, and 10 µM and 25 µM geniposide was added for treatment. The alterations of protein expression were detected by western blot, and the cell apoptosis was analyzed by a flow cytometer. Results CHO promoted osteoblast apoptosis by activating ER stress in osteoblasts, while GEN alleviated the activation of ER stress and reduced osteoblast apoptosis by activating the GLP-1R/ABCA1 pathway. Inhibition of ABCA1 or GLP-1R could eliminate the protective activity of GEN against CHO-induced ER stress and osteoblast apoptosis. Conclusion GEN alleviated CHO-induced ER stress and apoptosis in osteoblasts by mediating the GLP-1R/ABCA1 pathway.

Abstract Airborne surface and underwater human pose recognition are crucial for various safety and surveillance applications, including the detection of individuals in distress or drowning situations. However, airborne optical cameras struggle to achieve simultaneous imaging of the surface and underwater because of limitations imposed by visible-light wavelengths. To address this problem, this study proposes the use of light detection and ranging (LiDAR) to simultaneously detect humans on the surface and underwater, whereby human poses are recognized using a neural network designed for irregular data. First, a temporal point-cloud dataset was constructed for surface and underwater human pose recognition to enhance the recognition of comparable movements. Subsequently, radius outlier removal (ROR) and statistical outlier removal (SOR) were employed to alleviate the impact of noise and outliers in the constructed dataset. Finally, different combinations of secondary sampling methods and sample sizes were tested to improve recognition accuracy using PointNet++. The experimental results show that the highest recognition accuracy reached 97.5012%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed human pose detection and recognition method.

Abstract HBV-miR-3 is encoded by HBV and takes part in pathogenesis of HBV-related liver disease. Whether HBV-miR-3 has a relationship with HBV replication and is predictive of PegIFN-α treatment response is still unknown. HBV-miR-3 quantification is based on qRT-PCR. The relationship of HBV-miR-3 and HBV replication, and predictive value of HBV-miR-3 were evaluated in a cohort of 650 HBeAg positive patients from a multi-center, randomized phase III clinical trial for the study of PegIFN-a2b. HBV-miR-3 is significantly positively related to HBVDNA, HBVpgRNA, HBeAg and HBsAg at baseline and at all the different time points during PegIFN-α treatment. Both univariate regression analyses and multivariate logistic regression analyses showed HBV-miR-3 is a predictor of HBeAg seroconversion in the patients treated with PegIFN-α at weeks of 0, 12, and 24. 70.0% of patients with HBV-miR-3 6log at week 12 no patient obtained HBeAg seroconversion. Conbination of HBV-miR-3 and HBeAg is more strongly predictive of HBeAg seroconversion (83.64%) at week 12. HBV-miR-3 is new biomarker for HBV replication and positively correlated to HBV replication. HBV-miR-3 is also an early predictor of HBeAg seroconversion in the patients treated with PegIFN-α.

The praseodymium-doped indium zinc oxide (PrIZO) thin-film transistor (TFT) is promising for applications in flat-panel displays, due to its high carrier mobility and stability. Nevertheless, there are few studies on the mechanism of annealing on PrIZO films and the fabrication of flexible devices. In this work, we first optimized the annealing-process parameters on the glass substrate. As the annealing temperature rises, the film tends to be denser and obtains a lower surface roughness, a narrower optical-band gap and less oxygen-vacancy content. However, the μ-PCD test shows the 250 °C-annealed film obtains the least defects. And the PrIZO TFT annealed at 250 °C exhibited a desired performance with a saturation mobility (μsat) of 14.26 cm2·V−1·s−1, a subthreshold swing (SS) of 0.14 V·dec−1, an interface trap density (Dit) of 3.17 × 1011, an Ion/Ioff ratio of 1.83 × 108 and a threshold voltage (Vth) of −1.15 V. The flexible devices were prepared using the optimized parameters on the Polyimide (PI) substrate and subjected to static bending tests. After bending at a radius of 5 mm, the mobility of devices decreases slightly from 12.48 to 10.87 cm2·V−1·s−1, demonstrating the great potential of PrIZO for flexible displays.

Background: Rett syndrome (RTT), caused by mutations in the X-linked gene encoding methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2), severely impairs learning and memory. We previously showed that forniceal deep brain stimulation (DBS) stimulates hippocampal neurogenesis with concomitant improvements in hippocampal-dependent learning and memory in a mouse model of RTT. Objectives: To determine the duration of DBS benefits; characterize DBS effects on hippocampal neurogenesis; and determine whether DBS influences MECP2 genotype and survival of newborn dentate granular cells (DGCs) in RTT mice. Methods: Chronic DBS was delivered through an electrode implanted in the fimbria-fornix. We tested separate cohorts of mice in contextual and cued fear memory at different time points after DBS. We then examined neurogenesis, DGC apoptosis, and the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) after DBS by immunohistochemistry. Results: After two weeks of forniceal DBS, memory improvements lasted between 6 and 9 weeks. Repeating DBS every 6 weeks was sufficient to maintain the improvement. Forniceal DBS stimulated the birth of more MeCP2-positive than MeCP2-negative DGCs and had no effect on DGC survival. It also increased the expression of BDNF but not VEGF in the RTT mouse dentate gyrus. Conclusion: Improvements in learning and memory from forniceal DBS in RTT mice extends well beyond the treatment period and can be maintained by repeated DBS. Stimulation of BDNF expression correlates with improvements in hippocampal neurogenesis and memory benefits.

Slope stability is a major safety concern of rockfill embankments. Since rockfills are incohesive materials, only friction angle is considered as a shear strength parameter in the slope stability analysis of rockfill embankments. Recently, it was found that confining pressure can significantly affect the mean value and variance of the friction angle of rockfills. Since the confining pressure spatially varies within a rockfill embankment, the effect of stress-dependent spatial variability in the friction angle of rockfills should be investigated for slope stability evaluation of rockfill embankments. In the framework of the Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM), an approach is proposed for the slope stability analysis of rockfill embankments considering the stress-dependent spatial variability in the friction angle. The safety factors of slope stability are computed with variable values of the friction angle at the bases of slices which are determined by the stress-dependent mean value and variance of the friction angle of rockfills. The slope stability of a homogeneous rockfill embankment is analyzed to illustrate the proposed approach, and a parametric analysis is carried out to explore the effect of variation in the parameters of the variance function of friction angle on slope stability. The illustrative example demonstrates that the stress-dependent spatial variability of friction angle along the slip surface is obvious and is affected by the location of the slip surface and the loading condition. The effects of the stress-dependent spatial variability of the friction angle on the slope stability of high rockfill embankments should be considered.

Background: Whether and to what extent the impact of exposure to various polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) congeners on diabetes, as well as the important contributors, have remained unclear. Objective: We aimed to investigate the association patterns between PCBs mixture and diabetes, identify the critical congeners, and explore the potential modifiers. Methods: The present study included 5900 U.S. adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2007 and 2016. Weighted logistic regression, restricted cubic spline regression, weighted quantile sum (WQS) regression and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) were applied to estimate the linear and non-linear associations of single and mixed PCB exposure with diabetes. Subgroup analyses were also conducted to explore potential sex differences. Results: In the weighted logistic regression model, total PCBs were positively associated with diabetes (OR = 1.33, P < 0.025), and significant non-linear associations were observed using RCS analyses. The non-linear positive association between PCBs mixed exposure and diabetes was likewise found in the WQS and BKMR results. PCB180, PCB194, PCB196, and PCB167 were with the highest weights in the WQS, and PCB209 and PCB66 were with the highest posterior inclusion probabilities in the BKMR. Additionally, exposure to total PCBs and most of individual PCB congeners were significantly associated with elevated risk of in females (OR = 1.74; P for trend < 0.001), while fewer significant associations were observed in males. Conclusion: The present study highlighted the importance of the long-term surveillance of PCBs and the need to enhance protective measures against them. Notably, these associations were non-linear, congener-specific, and significantly stronger in females than males, especially at relatively high levels of PCBs exposure. Further prospective and mechanistic studies were warranted to ascertain the causal effects between PCBs mixture and diabetes.

Background: The relationship between socioeconomic status (SES) inequity and incident age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains unclear. We aim to investigate whether low SES increases the risk of AMD and to explore the effect of a healthy lifestyle on this association. Methods: This prospective cohort study included 316,663 UK Biobank individuals. SES inequity was identified via latent class analysis using education, household income, and occupational status. Healthy lifestyle score was calculated based on smoking, alcohol drinking, and physical activity (PA). Incident AMD was defined according to diagnosis records. Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate the relationship of low SES and AMD. Interrelationships of healthy lifestyle score on SES–AMD association were explored, including modification, mediation, and joint effects. Results: During the average 12.2 years of follow-up, 6,355 AMD cases were diagnosed. Participants with medium SES (hazard ratio: 1.10 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.01 to 1.21]) and low SES (hazard ratio: 1.22 [95% CI 1.11 to 1.34]) had an increased risk of incident AMD compared to participants with high SES. PA significantly affected this association. Moreover, the association between low SES and AMD was significantly mediated (11.3%, 95% CI: 6.56 to 23.0) by smoking. Similarly, alcohol drinking suppressed (9.59%, 95% CI: 4.00 to 23.2) the association between high SES and AMD. Besides, a significant joint effect of SES and healthy lifestyle score was found. Conclusions: We provide further evidence for the relationship of socioeconomic inequity, healthy lifestyle, and incident AMD. Future public health strategies should aim to reduce socioeconomic inequity to prevent AMD.

Additive manufacturing (AM) has attracted significant attention in recent years based on its wide range of applications and growing demand. AM offers the advantages of production flexibility and design freedom. In this study, we considered a practical variant of the batch-processing-machine (BPM) scheduling problem that arises in AM industries, where an AM machine can process multiple parts simultaneously, as long as the two-dimensional rectangular packing constraint is not violated. Based on the set-partitioning formulation of our mixed-integer programming (MIP) model, a branch-and-price (B&P) algorithm was developed by embedding a column-generation technique into a branch-and-bound framework. Additionally, a novel labelling algorithm was developed to accelerate the column-generation process. Ours is the first study to provide a B&P algorithm to solve the BPM scheduling problem in the AM industry. We tested the performance of our algorithm using a modern MIP solver (Gurobi) and real data from a 3D printing factory. The results demonstrate that for most instances tested, our algorithm produces results similar or identical to those of Gurobi with reasonable computation time and outperforms Gurobi in terms of solution quality and running time on some large instances.

BackgroundPhenolic compounds may adversely affect human health, but the current relevant studies are mostly limited to the impact of single phenolic compound exposure on human health, and there is still a lack of studies on the population-based association between combined exposure to multiple common phenolic compounds and dyslipidemia. ObjectiveTo explore the association of phenolic compound combined exposure and dyslipidemia based on principal component analysis-random forest (PCA-RF) strategy. MethodsThe data were from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013–2016). A total of 1301 adult residents aged ≥ 20 years with complete information on demographics and lifestyle, urine phenol concentrations (bisphenol A, bisphenol F, bisphenol S, triclocarban, benzophenone, and triclosan), and serum concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were included in this study. The concentrations of six urinary phenolic compounds were determined by solid phase extraction coupled with high performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry, and the lipid indicators were determined by enzymatic methods. Principal component analysis combined with random forest model was used for model construction. First, principal component analysis was performed on 18 original variables including 6 phenolic compounds and 12 basic characteristic indicators, and then random forest model was established with dyslipidemia and its four evaluation indicators as dependent variables and the extracted principal components as independent variables, respectively. ResultsThe PCA-RF analysis showed that bisphenol A, bisphenol F, and benzophenone may be important factors for dyslipidemia in the study subjects; bisphenol A, bisphenol F, and triclosan may be important factors for TC level in the study subjects; bisphenol A, bisphenol F, triclocarban, and benzophenone may be important factors for TG level in the study subjects; bisphenol A may be an important factor for LDL-C level in the study subjects; bisphenol F and benzophenone may be important factors for HDL-C level in the study subjects. ConclusionPhenolic compound exposure may be an important risk factor for the development of dyslipidemia. PCA-RF strategy can be effectively used to explore the association between phenolic compound exposure and dyslipidemia in the population.

Mg/Al composite plates with different thickness ratios were prepared by different temperature asymmetrical rolling + isothermal symmetrical rolling. The effects of different thickness ratios of component metals on microstructure, interface structure, and mechanical properties of composite plates were studied. It was found that the thickness of blocky intermediate compounds β(Mg2Al3) and γ(Mg17Al12) formed in the second pass rolling is inversely proportional to the component metal thickness ratio, and the maximum thickness of metallurgical bonding layer reaches 7.8 μm when the thickness ratio is 2. The main grains in matrix and clad plates are equiaxed grains and deformed grains, respectively. With the increase of thickness ratio, recrystallization of Mg layer increases first and then decreases, while Al side increases gradually because of the difference reduction of component metals. Due to the fine grain strengthening of matrix, the dislocation strengthening and low texture of clad plate, and the proper thickness of intermediate compounds, composite plate with a thickness ratio of 3 has the best mechanical properties. Its ultimate tensile strength and yield strength are 277.4 MPa and 253.9 MPa, respectively. Its elongation is the highest, up to 18.7%.

Wood defect detection is a research hotspot in the field of forestry at present. However, existing studies on wood defect detection mainly focus on detecting a single type of defect or common defects, such as knots, insect pests, and cracks, which cannot meet the processing needs of high-quality wood. Moreover, there are problems, such as low recognition rates of small-target defects and poor recognition integrity of dense defects. To address these issues, we construct a large-scale dataset containing multiple types of wood surface defects through data augmentation techniques. We also introduce the Coordinate Attention module, Transformer Encoder module, and Swin Transformer module in the YOLOv5 network structure. The backbone network CSP-Darknet53 is optimized, and BiFPN is introduced in the neck part to achieve multi-scale weighted bidirectional feature fusion. In addition, we implement three new heads: Shead, Mhead, and Lhead in the prediction part. Comparison experiments show that STC-YOLOv5 outperforms some object detection algorithms. Ablation experiments show that each module effectively improves the detection performance. Compared to YOLOv5, STC-YOLOv5 proposed in this paper improve the mAP by 3.1%. All types and scales of wood surface defects are detected better, with great potential for application in the forestry industry.

Abstract Hitherto, LiFePO4 (LFP) is bottlenecked by inferior electronic conductivity and sluggish Li+ diffusion, which can be resolved by cation doping, morphological engineering, carbon coating, and so forth. Among these methodologies, morphological optimization and carbon modification can warrant a stable operating voltage and prolong the cycling lifespan, which can be accessible by utilizing metal–organic frameworks as self‐sacrificing templates. Herein, we conceptualize a strategy to in‐situ construct N‐doped carbon‐coated LFP with Prussian blue analogues as the template, after which electrochemical tests extensively exploit the lithium storage capacity with 153.2 mAh g−1 after 500 cycles at 0.5 C. However, the capacity failure associated with the inevitable Li+ loss and destructed carbon layer provides sufficient room for the restoration of LFP after long‐term cycling. Motivated by this, the cell performance of LFP/C after targeted restoration using the 3,4‐dihydroxybenzonitrile dilithium salt is investigated, revealing a considerable recovered capacity due to the recuperative LFP crystal and uniform carbon layer with homogeneous N‐distribution. The computational study also supports the feasibility of N‐doped carbon layer in LFP modification. This study envisages a methodology for the performance improvement of LFP from directional fabrication to targeted recovery, providing insights into the manufacturing and reuse of LIB cathodes.

Abstract Background Hemoglobin glycation index (HGI), which is calculated by blood glucose and hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), reflects the individual discrepancy in HbA1c. This study aimed to investigate the association between HGI/HbA1c and serum uric acid(SUA) stratified by sex and diabetes. Methods The study recruited 33772 participants who underwent physical examinations between April 2016 and August 2021 in Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital. A random subsample of 3000 subjects was utilized to calculate the formula of HGI and data of the remaining 30772 participants were used for analysis. HGI and HbA1c were categorized according to quartiles (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4), using Q1 as the reference. We used multiple linear regression and restricted cubic splines for data analysis. Results 30772 participants with a mean age of 44.4 years old were included in the analysis, 48.6% (N = 14944) of which were female and 7.7% (N = 2363) with diabetes. Associations of HGI, HbA1c and SUA were modified by sex and diabetes. The relationship between SUA levels and HGI was positive in women without diabetes, with one unit increase in HGI associating with an 11.3 μmol/L increase in SUA (P

This paper proposes a convex reformulation for the non-linear optimal water-power flow (OWPF) problem to optimize the operation cost of the integrated electricity–water network (IEWN). Due to the significant challenge in seeking the optimal solution of non-convex problems, the original OWPF problem is reformulated as a tractable mixed-integer second-order cone programming (MISOCP) problem. For the power distribution network, a second-order cone (SOC) relaxation is employed to address the non-linear branch power flow equation. For the water distribution network, a big-M trick is introduced to handle the unknown direction of water flow, then SOC relaxations and convex envelopes are employed to deal with quadratic and bilinear terms in non-convex constraints, respectively. To enhance the approximation accuracy of the proposed MISOCP model, a convex combination method and a sequential convexification approach are developed. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the original non-linear formulation and linearized reformulation in accuracy, efficiency, and robustness.

For an exhaustive removal of Cr(VI), three different types of biochar were prepared, modified and evaluated for Cr(VI) removal from wastewater. Magnetic eucalyptus biochar (MBC) was synthesized via a facile pyrolysis process of eucalyptus biochar pretreated with FeCl3 firstly coupled with K2CO3 activation. As a comparison, raw biochar (BC) and FeCl3 modified biochar (FBC) were prepared. The physicochemical property of adsorbent synthesis and removal mechanism was examined using BET, SEM with EDS, zeta potential, XRD, FTIR, XPS and Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and the effect of various reaction conditions and parameters were evaluated for Cr(VI) removal. Results demonstrated that compared to BC and FBC, MBC has a larger specific surface area (870.3264 m2/g), higher content of Fe mainly existed as γ-Fe2O3 and Fe3O4, and higher zeta potential (10.66). This is due to the significant alleviation of pore blockage caused by iron oxides and more efficient conversion of iron oxides with the participation of K2CO3 during modification process. Upon batch tests, the removal efficiency could achieve more than 91% for 200 mg/L Cr(VI) solution with optimum adsorbent dosage (0.01 g) at desired acid condition (pH = 2) within 9 h. The separation behavior of MBC for Cr(VI) was highly identical with elovich and Freundlich model. MBC showed better adsorption performance up to three cycles and under various co-existing ions. Besides, the removal ability of MBC gained an obvious increase of 2–5 folds and 3–10 folds at different initial Cr(VI) concentrations, compared with BC and FBC. Characterization analyses unraveled that physicochemical removal process was responsible for the efficient elimination of Cr(VI) in an aqueous solution, resulting from adsorption, electrostatic attraction, pore filling, complexation, ion exchange, redox reaction and precipitation due to the fabrication of iron oxides into biochar.

BackgroundNasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is prevalent in Southern China. The expression profile and functions of kinesin family member 18B (KIF18B) remain unclear in NPC.MethodsBulk and single-cell transcriptome data for NPC were downloaded. KIF18B expression differences in NPC and normal tissues and its prognostic value were validated by immunohistochemistry and Cox model. We performed multi-faceted functional enrichment analysis on KIF18B. Immune infiltration was analyzed comprehensively by the CIBERSORT, EPIC, and quanTIseq algorithms and the BisqueRNA package and confirmed by immunofluorescence assay. The intercellular communication were investigated by the CellChat package. We explored the dynamics of KIF18B expression by pseudotime trajectory. M6A modification analysis rely on SRAMP platform. The treatment response were evaluated by Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion (TIDE) score, immunophenoscore and IC50 value.ResultsKIF18B overexpression in NPC led to unfavorable prognosis, and significantly associated with advanced T, N, and stage classifications. Functional analysis demonstrated that KIF18B was involved in immune suppression, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification and therapeutic responses. The deconvolution algorithm indicated that activated regulatory T cells (Tregs) had the strongest positive correlation with KIF18B among immune cells (R = 0.631). Validated by immunofluorescence assay, the high KIF18B expression group displayed a notable rise in Tregs infiltration, accompanied by a substantial decrease in the infiltration of CD8+ T cells and macrophages. In the intercellular communication network, malignant cells with high KIF18B expression implicated in more interactions, and activated and recruited Tregs by modulating cytokines, chemokines, and immune checkpoints. KIF18B was upregulated in more advanced malignant cells and influenced EMT by regulating ITGA6, VIM, and ZEB1/2. KIF18B expression was positively related to m6A “writer” and “reader” genes, and negatively related to “eraser” genes. The KIF18B high expression group exhibited a higher TIDE score and elevated IC50 values for the commonly used chemotherapy drugs, gemcitabine, oxaliplatin, and 5-fluorouracil.ConclusionKIF18B is a significant prognostic marker in NPC, and may modulate immune evasion and EMT. M6A modification may account for the aberrant overexpression of KIF18B in NPC. Furthermore, KIF18B may predict response to immunotherapy and chemotherapy.

This paper presents a two-axis AlScN-based water-immersible MEMS mirror fabricated in an 8-inch MEMS process. Compared with other studies, this device has a larger optical aperture 10 mm in diameter. The resonant frequencies of the device are 1011 Hz in air and 342 Hz in water. The scanning angle reaches ±5° and ±2° at resonant frequencies in air and water, respectively. The cavitation phenomenon is observed when the device is operating in water, which leads the device to electrical failure. To address this issue, a device with reduced resonant frequencies—246 Hz and 152 Hz in air and water—is characterized, through which the bubbles can be effectively prohibited. This MEMS mirror could potentially be used in ultrasound and photoacoustic microscopy applications.

BackgroundGlioblastoma (GBM) is adults’ most common and fatally malignant brain tumor. The heterogeneity is the leading cause of treatment failure. However, the relationship between cellular heterogeneity, tumor microenvironment, and GBM progression is still elusive.MethodsIntegrated analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatial transcriptome sequencing (stRNA-seq) of GBM were conducted to analyze the spatial tumor microenvironment. We investigated the subpopulation heterogeneity of malignant cells through gene set enrichment analyses, cell communications analyses, and pseudotime analyses. Significantly changed genes of the pseudotime analysis were screened to create a tumor progress-related gene risk score (TPRGRS) using Cox regression algorithms in the bulkRNA-sequencing(bulkRNA-seq) dataset. We combined the TPRGRS and clinical characteristics to predict the prognosis of patients with GBM. Furthermore, functional analysis was applied to uncover the underlying mechanisms of the TPRGRS.ResultsGBM cells were accurately charted to their spatial locations and uncovered their spatial colocalization. The malignant cells were divided into five clusters with transcriptional and functional heterogeneity, including unclassified malignant cells and astrocyte-like, mesenchymal-like, oligodendrocytes-progenitor-like, and neural-progenitor-like malignant cells. Cell-cell communications analysis in scRNA-seq and stRNA-seq identified ligand-receptor pairs of the CXCL, EGF, FGF, and MIF signaling pathways as bridges implying that tumor microenvironment may cause malignant cells’ transcriptomic adaptability and disease progression. Pseudotime analysis showed the differentiation trajectory of GBM cells from proneural to mesenchymal transition and identified genes or pathways that affect cell differentiation. TPRGRS could successfully divide patients with GBM in three datasets into high- and low-risk groups, which was proved to be a prognostic factor independent of routine clinicopathological characteristics. Functional analysis revealed the TPRGRS associated with growth factor binding, cytokine activity, signaling receptor activator activity functions, and oncogenic pathways. Further analysis revealed the association of the TPRGRS with gene mutations and immunity in GBM. Finally, the external datasets and qRT-PCR verified high expressions of the TPRGRS mRNAs in GBM cells.ConclusionOur study provides novel insights into heterogeneity in GBM based on scRNA-seq and stRNA-seq data. Moreover, our study proposed a malignant cell transition-based TPRGRS through integrated analysis of bulkRNA-seq and scRNA-seq data, combined with the routine clinicopathological evaluation of tumors, which may provide more personalized drug regimens for GBM patients.

BackgroundLung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), the most common histotype of lung cancer, may have variable prognosis due to molecular variations. The research strived to establish a prognostic model based on malignancy-related risk score (MRRS) in LUAD.MethodsWe applied the single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data from Tumor Immune Single Cell Hub database to recognize malignancy-related geneset. Meanwhile, we extracted RNA-seq data from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. The GSE68465 and GSE72094 datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus database were downloaded to validate the prognostic signature. Random survival forest analysis screened MRRS with prognostic significance. Multivariate Cox analysis was leveraged to establish the MRRS. Furthermore, the biological functions, gene mutations, and immune landscape were investigated to uncover the underlying mechanisms of the malignancy-related signature. In addition, we used qRT-PCR to explore the expression profile of MRRS-constructed genes in LUAD cells.ResultsThe scRNA-seq analysis revealed the markers genes of malignant celltype. The MRRS composed of 7 malignancy-related genes was constructed for each patient, which was shown to be an independent prognostic factor. The results of the GSE68465 and GSE72094 datasets validated MRRS’s prognostic value. Further analysis demonstrated that MRRS was involved in oncogenic pathways, genetic mutations, and immune functions. Moreover, the results of qRT-PCR were consistent with bioinformatics analysis.ConclusionOur research recognized a novel malignancy-related signature for predicting the prognosis of LUAD patients and highlighted a promising prognostic and treatment marker for LUAD patients.

Osteoarthritis (OA), a chronic joint cartilage disease, is characterized by the imbalanced homeostasis between anabolism and catabolism. Oxidative stress contributes to inflammatory responses, extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, and chondrocyte apoptosis and promotes the pathogenesis of OA. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) is a central regulator of intracellular redox homeostasis. Activation of the NRF2/ARE signaling may effectively suppress oxidative stress, attenuate ECM degradation, and inhibit chondrocyte apoptosis. Increasing evidence suggests that the NRF2/ARE signaling has become a potential target for the therapeutic management of OA. Natural compounds, such as polyphenols and terpenoids, have been explored to protect against OA cartilage degeneration by activating the NRF2/ARE pathway. Specifically, flavonoids may function as NRF2 activators and exhibit chondroprotective activity. In conclusion, natural compounds provide rich resources to explore the therapeutic management of OA by activating NRF2/ARE signaling.

Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), the most common histotype of lung cancer, may have variable prognosis due to molecular variations. This work investigated long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) related to endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) to predict the prognosis and immune landscape for LUAD patients.Methods: RNA data and clinical data from 497 LUAD patients were collected in the Cancer Genome Atlas database. Pearson correlation analysis, univariate Cox regression, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analyses, as well as the Kaplan-Meier method, were used to screen for ERS-related lncRNAs associated with prognosis. The risk score model was developed using multivariate Cox analysis to separate patients into high- and low-risk groups and a nomogram was constructed and evaluated. Finally, we explore the potential functions and compared the immune landscapes of two groups. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to verify the expression of these lncRNAs.Results: Five ERS-related lncRNAs were shown to be strongly linked to patients’ prognosis. A risk score model was built by using these lncRNAs to categorize patients based on their median risk scores. For LUAD patients, the model was found to be an independent prognostic predictor (p < 0.001). The signature and clinical variables were then used to construct a nomogram. With 3-year and 5-year OS’ AUC of 0.725 and 0.740, respectively, the nomogram’s prediction performance is excellent. The 5-lncRNA signature was associated with DNA replication, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and the pathway of cell cycle, P53 signaling. Between the two risk groups, immune responses, immune cells, and immunological checkpoints were found to be considerably different.Conclusion: Overall, our findings indicate that the 5 ERS-related lncRNA signature was an excellent prognostic indicator and helped to predict the immunotherapy response for patients with LUAD.

Background and aimThis study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic enucleation for liver hemangioma in special hepatic segments.MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed 58 patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery for hepatic hemangioma at a single center from January 2016 to January 2022. The health of the trees in the forest affects the ecological environment, so timely detection of Standing Dead Trees (SDTs) plays an important role in forest management. However, due to the large spatial scope of forests, it is difficult to find SDTs through conventional approaches such as field inventories. In recent years, the development of deep learning and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has provided technical support for low-cost real-time monitoring of SDTs, but the inability to fully utilize global features and the difficulty of small-scale SDTs detection have brought challenges to the detection of SDTs in visible light images. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-scale attention mechanism detection method for identifying SDTs in UAV RGB images. This method takes Faster-RCNN as the basic framework and uses Swin-Transformer as the backbone network for feature extraction, which can effectively obtain global information. Then, features of different scales are extracted through the feature pyramid structure and feature balance enhancement module. Finally, dynamic training is used to improve the quality of the model. The experimental results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively identify the SDTs in the visible light image of the UAV with an accuracy of 95.9%. This method of SDTs identification can not only improve the efficiency of SDTs exploration, but also help relevant departments to explore other forest species in the future.

Phase transition behaviors of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) nanogels with different compositions induced by (−)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and ethyl gallate (EG) has been investigated systematically. Monodisperse poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide) (P(NIPAM-co-NMAM)) and poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (P(NIPAM-co-HEMA)) nanogels with different feeding monomer ratios were prepared by emulsion polymerization. P(NIPAM-co-NMAM) nanogels exhibit rapid isothermal phase transition behavior in EGCG solutions with low concentration (10−3 mol/L) in less than 10 minutes. The thermosensitive phase transition behaviors of nanogels are affected not only by the copolymerized monomers but also by the concentrations of EGCG and EG in aqueous solutions. Nanogels remain in a shrunken state and do not exhibit thermosensitive phase transition behaviors in EGCG solutions (≥5 mmol/L), whereas they display thermo-responsive phase transition behaviors in EG solutions. The volume phase transition temperature (VPTT) shifts to lower temperatures with increasing EG concentration. The diameters of P(NIPAM-co-NMAM) nanogels decrease with increasing EG concentration at temperatures between 29 and 33 °C. In contrast, the diameters of P(NIPAM-co-HEMA) nanogels increase with increasing EGCG concentration at temperatures between 37 and 45 °C. The results demonstrate the potential of nanogels for simple detection of EG and EGCG concentrations in aqueous solutions over a wide temperature range, and EGCG can serve as a signal for the burst-release of drugs from the P(NIPAM-co-NMAM)-based carriers at physiological temperature.

Circadian dysregulation can be involved in the development of malignant tumors, though its relationship with the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma is not yet fully understood. We identified genes related to circadian rhythms from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), measured gene expression, and conducted genomic difference analysis to construct a circadian rhythm-related signature. The resulting prognosis model proved to be an effective biomarker, as demonstrated by Kaplan-Meier survival analysis for both the training (n = 370, P = 2.687e-10) and external validation cohorts (n = 230, P = 1.45e-02). Further, we found that patients considered ‘high risk’, with an associated poor prognosis, displayed elevated levels of immune checkpoint genes and immune filtration. We also conducted functional enrichment, which indicated that the risk model showed a significant positive correlation with certain malignant phenotypes, including G2M checkpoint, MYC targets, and the MTORC1 signaling pathway. In summary, we identified a novel circadian rhythm-related signature allowing assessment of prognosis for hepatocellular carcinoma patients, and further can be used to predict immune infiltration sensitivity.

The increasing need for citrus has driven the rapid expansion of citrus planting areas. However, not all areas are suitable for growing citrus. It is necessary to understand the future changing trend of environmental suitability in citrus-producing areas. Here, based on the soil nutrient data of citrus cultivation from 2006 to 2018, the spatiotemporal kriging method was used to predict the spatiotemporal distribution of soil nutrients in Zigui County, Hubei Province. Then, geographical and meteorological conditions were combined to evaluate the suitability for citrus cultivation at temporal and spatial levels, and the results were verified by the yield and quality data of citrus. The results showed that from 2018 to 2027, the overall suitability of the citrus-producing area displayed a gradually rising trend, with the “suitable” producing area increasing from 4.5% to 20.16%. The validation results indicated that the mean relative errors of spatiotemporal predictors were less than 30% except for the effective iron. Correlation analysis revealed that the proportion of “moderately suitable” and “suitable” orchards had significant positive correlations with annual yield. The low suitability of Maoping town was mainly attributed to its soil acidification and available P content, and that of Shazhenxi town was ascribed to its low soil contents of available P and N. The optimal fertilization scheme was constructed by an artificial neural network to optimize the fertilization status of some citrus producing areas. This study has created a dynamic assessment of the environmental suitability of citrus production areas to support improvements in citrus production.

BackgroundCardiovascular risk due to obesity can be improved greatly by bariatric surgery. However, there is no research involving appropriate model for evaluating cardiovascular disease risk reduction in bariatric surgery for obesity in China. We selected the ischemic cardiovascular disease (ICVD) risk score that accurately predict cardiovascular risk in Chinese adults to evaluate the 10-year risk of ICVD and estimated early cardiovascular benefits of bariatric surgery in obese Chinese patients through its reduction.MethodsFrom 2017 to 2019 we followed up 107 patients 6 months after surgery and measured the ICVD 10-year risk and other cardiovascular factors before and after surgery.ResultsThere were significant reductions in the ICVD total score (p < 0.001) and ICVD 10-year risk (%) (p < 0.001) 6 months post-operation compared with baseline. Furthermore, we found significant reductions in body mass index (BMI), body adiposity index (BAI), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), small dense-low-density lipoprotein (sd-LDL) and triglycerides (TG) 6 months after surgery compared with pre-operation (all p < 0.05). The decrease in ICVD total score was correlated with excess BMI loss (%EBMIL), reduced BAI, reduced LDL, reduced sd-LDL and reduced TG respectively (all p < 0.05) at 6 months post-operation. Moreover, there were significant reductions in the ICVD total score in the male subgroup [3 (3, 5) vs. 2.5 (2, 4), p < 0.001] and female subgroup [3 (2, 4) vs. 2 (1, 3), p < 0.001] 6 months post-operation compared with baseline. At last there were also significant reductions in the ICVD total score in the diabetic subgroup [5 (4, 6) vs. 4 (3, 5), p < 0.001] and non-diabetic subgroup [2 (2,3) vs. 2 (1, 2), p < 0.001] 6 months post-operation compared with baseline.ConclusionsBariatric surgery could provide early cardiovascular benefits for patients with obesity in China by reducing the 10-year risk of ICVD. Both men and women with obesity achieved cardiovascular benefits according to bariatric surgery, so did diabetic and non-diabetic patients.

Abstract Background Bladder cancer is the second most common malignant tumor in the urogenital system. The research investigated the prognostic role of immune‐related long non‐coding RNA (lncRNA) in bladder cancer. Methods We extracted 411 bladder cancer samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Single‐sample gene set enrichment analysis was employed to assess the immune cell infiltration of these samples. We recognized differentially expressed lncRNAs between tumors and paracancerous tissues, and differentially expressed lncRNAs between the high and low immune cell infiltration groups. Venn diagram analysis detected differentially expressed lncRNAs that intersected the above groups. LncRNAs with prognostic significance were identified by regression analysis. Multivariate Cox analysis was used to establish the risk score model. Then we established and evaluated the nomogram. Additionally, we performed gene set enrichment analysis to explore the potential functions of the screened lncRNAs in tumor pathogenesis. Results Three hundred and twenty differentially expressed lncRNAs were recognized. We randomly divided patients into the training data set and the testing data set at a 2: 1 ratio. In the training data set, 9 immune‐related lncRNAs with prognostic significance were identified. The risk score model was constructed to classify patients as high‐ and low‐risk cohorts. Patients in the low‐risk cohort had better survival outcomes than those in the high‐risk cohort. The nomogram was established based on the indicators including age, gender, tumor‐node‐metastases stage, and risk score. The model's predictive performance was confirmed by the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, concordance index method, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis. The testing data set also achieved similar results. Bioinformatics analysis suggested that the 9‐lncRNA signature was involved in the modulation of various immune responses, antigen processing and presentation, and T cell receptor signaling pathway. Conclusions Our study uncovered the prognostic value of immune‐related lncRNAs for bladder cancer and showed that they may regulate tumor pathogenesis in various ways.

Dedicated equipment, which is widely used in many different types of vehicles, is the core system that determines the combat capability of special vehicles. Therefore, assuring the normal operation of dedicated equipment is crucial. With the increase in battlefield complexity, the demand for equipment functions is increasing, and the complexity of dedicated equipment is also increasing. To solve the problem of fault diagnosis of dedicated equipment, a fault diagnosis algorithm based on CNN-LSTM was proposed in this paper. CNN and LSTM are used in the model adopted by the algorithm to extract spatial and temporal features from the data. CBAM is used to enhance the model’s accuracy in identifying faults for dedicated equipment. Data on dedicated equipment faults were obtained from a hardware-in-loop simulation platform to verify the model. It is demonstrated that the proposed fault diagnosis algorithm has high recognition ability for dedicated equipment by comparing it to other neural network models.

QingreHuoxue decoction (QRHX) is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine formula for treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). It is not known how QRHX is involved in bone metabolism regulation and thereby alleviatesbone injury caused by arthritis. In this study, we used collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat model to evaluate the effects of QRHX onarthriticdiarthrodial joints and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Our results showed that QRHX significantly reduced foot joint volume, synovial inflammatory infiltration and the arthritis index (AI) score. Micro-CT imaging showed that toe bone and ankle joint were eroded and destroyed progressively during RA process, andcompensatory hyperplasia appeared in late stage RA. QRHX treatment inhibited foot bone erosion of early and mid-stage RA, and improved bone mineral density and trabecular fine structure in late RA.This studyunlocked the whole process details of ankle and toe bone injuryduring RA, as well as the bone metabolic characteristics under QRHX treatmentin CIArats. QRHX was confirmed to inhibite the expression of RANKL and DKK-1 mRNA and protein, enhance the expression of β-catenin. Meanwhile, QRHX reduced the pro-inflammatorycytokines IL-17, IL-1β and TNF-αand upregulated anti-inflammatory IL-4 in serum, improving local and systemic inflammatory microenvironment. These results demonstrated that QRHX had sustained protective effects on diarthrodial joints/bone during RA by a synergistic regulation mechanism, which reverses the imbalance of bone metabolismthroughinhibiting RANKL related osteoclast pathway and promotingWnt/β-catenin related osteoblast activation pathway.

Genistein, a natural isoflavone rich in soybean and leguminous plants, has been shown various biological effects, such as anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, anti-cancer, and bone/cartilage protection. Due to the structural similarity to estrogen, genistein exhibits estrogen-like activity in protecting against osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Furthermore, genistein has been considered as an inhibitor of tyrosine kinase, which has been found to be dysregulated in the pathological development of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). Many signaling pathways, such as MAPK, NF-κB, and NRF2/HO-1, are involved in the regulatory activity of genistein in protecting against bone and cartilage diseases. The potential molecular mechanisms of genistein in therapeutic management of bone and cartilage diseases have been investigated, but remain to be fully understood. In this article, we mainly discuss the current knowledge of genistein in protecting against bone and cartilage diseases, such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and IDD.

BackgroundBladder cancer is ranked the second most frequent tumor among urological malignancies. The research strived to establish a prognostic model based on endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS)-related long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in bladder cancer.MethodsWe extracted the ERS-related genes from the published research and bladder cancer data from the Cancer Genome Atlas database. ERS-related lncRNAs with prognostic significance were screened by univariate Cox regression, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis and Kaplan-Meier method. Multivariate Cox analysis was leveraged to establish the risk score model. Moreover, an independent dataset, GSE31684, was used to validate the model’s efficacy. The nomogram was constructed based on the risk score and clinical variables. Furthermore, the biological functions, gene mutations, and immune landscape were investigated to uncover the underlying mechanisms of the ERS-related signature. Finally, we employed external datasets (GSE55433 and GSE89006) and qRT-PCR to investigate the expression profile of these lncRNAs in bladder cancer tissues and cells.ResultsSix ERS-related lncRNAs were identified to be closely coupled with patients’ prognosis. On this foundation, a risk score model was created to generate the risk score for each patient. The ERS-related risk score was shown to be an independent prognostic factor. And the results of GSE31684 dataset also supported this conclusion. Then, a nomogram was constructed based on risk scores and clinical characteristics, and proven to have excellent predictive value. Moreover, the gene function analysis demonstrated that ERS-related lncRNAs were closely linked to fatty extracellular matrix, cytokines, cell adhesion, and tumor pathways. Further analysis revealed the association of the 6-lncRNAs signature with gene mutations and immunity in bladder cancer. Finally, the external datasets and qRT-PCR verified high expressions of the ERS-related lncRNAs in bladder cancer tissues and cells.ConclusionsOverall, our findings indicated that ERS-related lncRNAs, which may affect tumor pathogenesis in a number of ways, might be exploited to assess the prognosis of bladder cancer patients.

Previous studies on saltwater up-coning are mostly based on the assumption of a homogeneous aquifer and neglect the effect of heterogeneity. A numerical study was carried out to explore the impact of a low-permeability (k) layer on the pumping efficiency under threats of saltwater up-coning. It is found that the presence of the low-k layer could impede up-coning of saltwater, thereby improving significantly pumping efficiency, as expected. For the cases adopted, when the permeability of the 2 m thick low-k layer is three orders of magnitude less than that of the corresponding homogeneous aquifer, the pumping duration (i.e., the time before the salinity of pumped water reaches 2%) can be up to about 10 times longer than that of the homogeneous aquifer case. Additionally, a sound linear relationship could be developed between the normalized pumping duration of the layered case (E) (defined as the difference of the pumping duration between layered and homogeneous cases relative to the pumping duration in the homogeneous case) and the permeability of the homogeneous aquifer relative to that of the low-k layer (β). However, a short low-k layer may lead to the failure of this linear relationship. Moreover, a thicker low-k layer leads to a larger E when all other conditions are unchanged. When varying the location of the low-k layer, the large E occurs for the low-k layer located below and near the well bottom. The results obtained in the current study offer significant implications for preventing saltwater up-coning and improving the pumping efficiency through natural and artificial barriers.

Autonomous driving has been achieving great progress since last several years. However, the autonomous vehicles always ignore the important traffic information on the road because of the uncertainties of driving environment and the limitations of onboard sensors. This might cause serious safety problem in autonomous driving. This study argues that the connected vehicles could share much more environmental information with each other. Therefore, a decision‐making method based on reinforcement learning is proposed for V2X autonomous vehicles. First, the V2X autonomous driving architecture with three subsystems is designed. By V2V communication, an autonomous vehicle could obtain much more environmental information. Second, a reinforcement learning based model is applied to learn from the V2V observation data. A simulation environment is setup based on OpenAI reinforcement learning framework. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the V2X in autonomous driving.

PurposeThis study aimed to characterize the clinical features of early-stage ovarian cancer (OC) survivors with second primary malignancies (SPMs) and provided a prediction tool for individualized risk of developing SPMs.MethodsData were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database during 1998–2013. Considering non-SPM death as a competing event, the Fine and Gray model and the corresponding nomogram were used to identify the risk factors for SPMs and predict the SPM probabilities after the initial OC diagnosis. The decision curve analysis (DCA) was performed to evaluate the clinical utility of our proposed model.ResultsA total of 14,314 qualified patients were enrolled. The diagnosis rate and the cumulative incidence of SPMs were 7.9% and 13.6% [95% confidence interval (CI) = 13.5% to 13.6%], respectively, during the median follow-up of 8.6 years. Polyamines are critical metabolites involved in various cellular processes and often dysregulated in cancers. Kaposi's sarcoma-associated Herpesvirus (KSHV), a defined human oncogenic virus, leads to profound alterations of host metabolic landscape to favor development of KSHV-associated malignancies. In our studies, we identified that polyamine biosynthesis and eIF5A hypusination are dynamically regulated by KSHV infection through modulation of key enzymes (ODC1 and DHPS) of these pathways. During KSHV latency, ODC1 and DHPS are upregulated along with increase of hypusinated eIF5A (hyp-eIF5A), while hyp-eIF5A is further induced along with reduction of ODC1 and intracellular polyamines during KSHV lytic reactivation. In return these metabolic pathways are required for both KSHV lytic reactivation and de novo infection. Further analysis unraveled that synthesis of critical KSHV latent and lytic proteins (LANA, RTA) depends on hypusinated-eIF5A. We also demonstrated that KSHV infection can be efficiently and specifically suppressed by inhibitors targeting these pathways. Collectively, our results illustrated that the dynamic and profound interaction of a DNA tumor virus (KSHV) with host polyamine biosynthesis and eIF5A hypusination pathways promote viral propagation, thus defining new therapeutic targets to treat KSHV-associated malignancies.
