Currently available antiepileptic drugs are effective; however, frequently associated with adverse effects that limit their therapeutic value. Compounds that target the molecular events underlying epilepsy, with minor or no adverse effects, would be of clinical value. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)-tropomyosin receptor kinase B (TrkB) signaling pathway may be involved in epileptogenesis. The current study investigated the effects of the plant-derived hydroxyflavone, myricetin, in a pentylenetetrazole (PTZ)-induced mouse model of epilepsy. Mice received an intraperitoneal injection of 35 mg/kg body weight PTZ on alternate days (13 injections) and were observed for 30 min following each PTZ injection. Myricetin (100 or 200 mg/kg body weight) was administered orally to the treatment groups (n=18/group) for 26 days, 30 min prior to each PTZ injection. Treatment with myricetin reduced seizure and mortality rates. Increased apoptotic cell count and elevated expression levels of apoptotic proteins caused by PTZ kindling were downregulated following treatment with myricetin. The BDNF-TrkB signaling pathway and MMP-9 expression levels were regulated by myricetin. Expression of γ-aminobutyric acid A (GABA) receptor and glutamic acid decarboxylase 65, as well as the glutamate/GABA balance, were restored following treatment with myricetin. The results of the present study indicated that myricetin may exert protective effects by regulating the molecular events associated with epileptogenesis.

Objective: To study and analyze the influence of retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery for the body antioxidant capacity and pain stress state of patients with localized renal carcinoma. Methods: A total of 56 patients with localized renal carcinoma in our hospital from January 2014 to August 2015 who were treated with surgery were divided into two groups according to the differences of surgery, 28 cases in control group were treated with open surgery, 28 cases in observation group were treated with retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery, then the related indexes of antioxidant capacity and pain stress state of two groups before the surgery and at first, fifth and tenth day after the surgery were compared. Results: The related indexes of antioxidant capacity and pain stress state of two groups before the surgery all had no significant differences, while the related indexes of antioxidant capacity and pain stress state of observation group at first, fifth and tenth day after the surgery were all better than those of control group, the differences were all significant. Conclusion: The influence of retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery for the body antioxidant capacity and pain stress state of patients with localized renal carcinoma is more active, so it is more suitable for the treatment of localized renal carcinoma.

A cross-platform software application was developed to manage energy generation and consumption intelligently in smart homes. The system model consists of domestic loads, household distributed energy resources and an energy storage component that supports scheduled charging/discharging. The software deals with all these electrical devices as well as their energy information, based on which real-time conditions are presented to the resident and the history can be queried. Whats more, the application fulfills kinds of energy profiling and pricing-related optimization on account of demand response, resulting more monetary benefits and comforts. The software interacts smartly with energy owners by graphical user interface (GUI) and enables an intelligent electricity usage pattern in the context of smart power consumption within the framework of smart grid.

A novel series of thiazole acetamides was synthesized in excellent yields and characterized with the aid of various spectroscopic and elemental analysis. These compounds were evaluated for in vitro acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitory activities for possible benefit in Alzheimers disease (AD). Among the synthesized compound, 6d was identified as the most potent compound of AChE (IC50=3.14±0.16 μM) with a selectivity index (SI) of 2.94 against BuChE. These compounds were further tested for inhibition of Aβ aggregation and β-secretase, where it showed potent inhibition which confirmed its multifactorial benefits in AD. The toxicity and docking study were also carried out to exemplify the pharmacological profile of compound 6d as prospective lead molecule against AD.
