The ignition characteristics of nano-aluminum (nano-Al) in oxygen and steam environments were numerically studied in this work. A detailed kinetic mechanism of nano-Al combustion was developed, and the effects of initial reaction temperature, ignition pressure, the phase of reactant, and the ratio of O2 and H2O in the oxidizer on the oxidation performance of aluminum (Al) were analyzed in detail. Numerical results show that increasing the initial temperature promotes the ignition of liquid-phase Al, while the promotion is not significant for gas-phase Al ignition. The oxidation of liquid-phase Al is significantly slower than that of gas-phase Al, and the phase transition reaction of liquid-phase Al exhibits a typical endothermic process, which results in a temperature drop before ignition. The increase of initial reaction pressure can accelerate the consumption of both liquid-phase Al and gas-phase Al in the ignition process. The oxidizability of O2 is much larger than that of H2O, and the oxidation of Al becomes slower by adding H2O in the oxidizer. The rate of production (ROP) was performed to deeply realize the reaction pathways of Al consumption and main products formation. The reaction Al + O2 = AlO + O is the key reaction pathway in the Al-O2 ignition process, while the reaction Al + H2O = AlOH + O plays a more important role in the Al-H2O ignition process. In the all ignition cases, Al2O2 is a key intermediate species since it is the main precursor of gaseous Al2O3, and liquid-phase Al2O3 formed by the phase transition reaction of gaseous Al2O3 is the dominant final product.

Abstract As the global economy continues to evolve, air transportation is increasingly seen as a crucial factor in enhancing regional competitiveness. In particular, aviation logistics industry clusters have emerged as a new driving force for regional economic development. In this context, the current study aims to evaluate the competitiveness of the aviation logistics industry cluster in Zhengzhou, China. To achieve this goal, the study employs the “GEM model” and constructs a GKA evaluation model using evaluation index data from 21 logistics node cities across China in 2021. The entropy-weighted TOPSIS method is used for empirical analysis of the data. The results of the study reveal that the competitiveness of Zhengzhou’s aviation logistics industry cluster is moderately low. This is primarily due to the weak competitiveness of its foundational and regulatory subsystems. Specifically, the study finds that Zhengzhou’s resources, facilities, markets, government, and industry aspects are all less competitive when compared to other cities in China. In order to enhance the competitiveness of Zhengzhou’s aviation logistics industry cluster, the study recommends that efforts be made to improve the competitiveness of key elements such as resources, facilities, markets, and government. In particular, the focus should be on elevating industry competitiveness, followed by the development of appropriate regulatory strategies. By doing so, the aviation logistics industry cluster in Zhengzhou would be better positioned to compete with other clusters within China and globally.

Hexafluorocyclotriphosphazene (HFPN) is a promising flame retardant to be applied in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) to decrease the fire risk during the treatment of electrolyte. In this manuscript, the influence of HFPN on the combustion characteristics of LIB electrolyte was investigated, the combustion behaviors and flame retardancy of the electrolyte with or without HFPN were systematically studied by using cone calorimeter, flash point meter and a series of standard equipment, as well as self-made water spray fire extinguishing platform. The flash points of 3 kinds of control group as base solution and 3 kinds of flame-retarded electrolyte were measured and obtained by SCKB3000 closed cup automatic flash point tester. The combustion characteristics of 6 types of electrolytes were analyzed by a cone calorimeter. The heat release rate (HRR), fire growth index (FGI), fire magnitude index (FMI) and other important combustion parameters of the electrolytes were studied. Based on the self-made water mist fire extinguishing platform, the fire extinguishing effect on 6 kinds of electrolytes under the same water mist condition was compared, and the influence of flame retardants in the fire extinguishing process was analyzed. The results showed that the change of flash point was obviously related to the composition of electrolyte. Flame retardant could reduce the peak HRR (pHRR) during electrolyte fire to a large extent, while it could also prolong the combustion duration of electrolyte pool fire. Under the action of fine water mist, the electrolyte pool fire would quickly extinguish, but there would remain a lot of smoke.

Abstract Broadband spectral photoresponse has shown bright prospects for various optoelectronic devices, while fulfilling high photoactivity beyond the material bandgap is a great challenge. Here, we present a molecular pyroelectric, N-isopropylbenzylaminium trifluoroacetate (N-IBATFA), of which the broadband photo-pyroelectric effects allow for self-driven wide spectral photodetection. As a simple organic binary salt, N-IBATFA possesses a large polarization (~9.5 μC cm−2), high pyroelectric coefficient (~6.9 μC cm−2 K−1) and figures-of-merits (F V = 187.9 × 10−2 cm2 μC−1; F D = 881.5 × 10−5 Pa−0.5) comparable to the state-of-art pyroelectric materials. Particularly, such intriguing attributes endow broadband photo-pyroelectric effect, namely, transient currents covering ultraviolet (UV, 266 nm) to near-infrared (NIR, 1950 nm) spectral regime, which breaks the restriction of its optical absorption and thus allows wide UV-NIR spectral photodetection. Our finding highlights the potential of molecular system as high-performance candidates toward self-powered wide spectral photodetection.

The non-equilibrium solidification process in the additive manufacturing of titanium alloy leads to special microstructures, and the resulting changes in corrosion behavior are worthy of attention. In this paper, the microstructure and electrochemical corrosion behavior of Ti6Al4V alloys prepared using laser powder bed melting (LPBF) and casting are systematically compared. The results show that the LPBF-processed Ti6Al4V alloy is composed of dominant acicular α′ martensite within columnar prior β phase, and less β disperses have also been discovered, which is significantly different from the α + β dual-phase structure of cast Ti6Al4V alloy. Compared to the as-cast Ti6Al4V alloy, LPBF-processed Ti6Al4V alloy has a thinner and unstable passive film, and exhibits slightly poorer corrosion resistance, which is mainly related to its higher porosity, a large amount of acicular α′ martensite and less β phase compared to as-cast Ti6Al4V alloy. This result proves that suitable methods should be taken to control the relative density and phase composition of LPBF-processed Ti6Al4V alloys before application.

Introduction: The consistency of clinical target volume is essential to guiding radiotherapy with precision for postoperative uterine malignancy patients. By introducing a three-dimensional ultrasound system (3D-US) into image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), this study was designed to investigate the initial workflow set-up, the therapeutic potential, and the adverse events of 3D-US and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) dual-guided radiotherapy in postoperative uterine malignancy treatment. Methods: From April 2021 to December 2021, postoperative uterine malignancy patients were instructed to follow the previously standard protocol of daily radiation treatment, particularly a 3D-US (Clarity system) guiding was involved before CBCT. Soft-tissue-based displacements resulting from the additional US-IGRT were acquired in the LT (left)/RT (right), ANT (anterior)/POST (posterior), and SUP (superior)/INF(inferior) directions of the patient before fractional treatment. Displacement distributions before and after treatment either from 3D-US or from CBCT were also estimated and compared subsequently, and the urinary and rectal toxicity was further evaluated. Results: All the patients completed radiation treatment as planned. The assessment of 170 scans resulted in a mean displacement of (0.17 ± 0.24) cm, (0.19 ± 0.23) cm, (0.22 ± 0.26) cm for bladder in LT/RT, ANT/POST, and SUP/INF directions. A mean deviation of (0.26 ± 0.22) cm, (0.58 ± 0.5) cm, and (0.3 ± 0.23) cm was also observed for the bladder centroid between the CBCT and computed tomography -simulation images in three directions. Paired comparison between these two guidance shows that the variations from 3D-US are much smaller than those from CBCT in three directions, especially in ANT/POST and SUP/INF directions with significance ( P = 0.000, 0.001, respectively). During treatment, and 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after treatment, there was no severe urinary and rectal toxicity happened. Conclusion: A primary workflow of 3D-US and CBCT dual-guided radiotherapy has been established, which showed great therapeutic potential with mild to moderate urinary and rectal toxicity for postoperative uterine malignancy patients. But the clinical outcomes of this non-invasive technique need to be investigated further.

Abstract Halide double perovskites have recently emerged as an environmentally green candidate toward electronic and optoelectronic applications owing to their non-toxicity and versatile physical merits, whereas study on high-temperature antiferroelectric (AFE) with excellent anti-breakdown property remains a huge blank in this booming family. Herein, we present the first high-temperature AFE of the lead-free halide double perovskites, (CHMA)2CsAgBiBr7 (1, where CHMA+ is cyclohexylmethylammonium), by incorporating a flexible organic spacer cation. The typical double P-E hysteresis loops and J-E curves reveal its concrete high-temperature AFE behaviors, giving large polarizations of ~4.2 μC/cm2 and a high Curie temperature of 378 K. Such merits are on the highest level of molecular AFE materials. Particularly, the dynamic motional ordering of CHMA+ cation contributes to the formation of antipolar alignment and high electric breakdown field strength up to ~205 kV/cm with fatigue endurance over 104 cycles, almost outperforming the vast majority of molecule counterparts. This is the first demonstration of high-temperature AFE properties in the halide double perovskites, which will promote the exploration of new “green” candidates for anti-breakdown energy storage capacitor.

Porphyra polysaccharide is a special kind of nutrient showing multiple physiological functions including regulating cell proliferation, but the detailed mechanisms are not fully revealed, impairing its further development and applications. This work was to purify and characterize the Porphyra haitanensis polysaccharide (PH), investigate its physiological function, and demonstrate the underlying mechanisms. The purified PH was first characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Then an intestinal epithelial cell model was established, in which PH significantly suppressed cell hyperplasia. Specifically, PH activated the Hippo/YAP pathway, which subsequently activated mTOR pathway, however mTOR activated Hippo in the absence of PH. Moreover, both the inhibition of Hippo by YAP1 knock-down and the suppression of mTOR by rapamycin impaired PH function. These results indicated that PH attenuated hyperplasia activity by remodeling the cross-talk between Hippo/YAP and mTOR pathways, which revealed potential targets and approaches for treating hyperplasia-related diseases and provided novel ways to utilize P. haitanensis as well as other related functional foods.

This study aimed to investigate the morphological characteristics of fruits and seeds from Diptychocarpus strictus, a plant species inhabiting the cold desert pastoral area of China. Furthermore, this study sought to evaluate the germination potential of these seeds following digestion by sheep. This study employed the sheep rumen fistula method to simulate rumen digestion at various time intervals. Subsequently, an in vitro simulation method was utilized to simulate true gastric and intestinal digestion after rumen digestion. Paper germination tests were then conducted to assess the impact of the digestive process on the heteromorphic seed morphology and germination. During rumen digestion, the seeds were protected by wide wings. The results revealed a highly significant negative correlation (p < 0.01) between seed wing length and digestion time. Post-rumen digestion, variations in the germination rate among seeds from fruits at different locations were observed. Indicators, such as germination rate, exhibited a highly significant negative correlation with rumen digestion time (p < 0.01). In vitro simulated digestion tests demonstrated that Diptychocarpus strictus seeds retained their ability to germinate even after complete digestion within the livestock’s digestive tract. The polymorphic nature of Diptychocarpus strictus seeds, coupled with their capacity to survive and germinate through the digestive tract, facilitates the spread of these seeds. This finding has implications for mitigating desert grassland degradation and promoting sustainable ecological development.

Objective Previous studies investigating the association between the serum triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio and the occurrence of sarcopenia in different populations have yielded inconsistent results. This study aimed to investigate the potential association between TG/HDL-C ratio and sarcopenia among elderly Chinese patients with diabetes.Design A secondary data analysis.Setting This was a secondary analysis of data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study.Participants In this study, 752 elderly individuals with diabetes were included after excluding individuals aged 4.71) had a significantly lower risk of more severe sarcopenia (OR 0.24, 95% CI 0.10 to 0.54). Similarly, among female patients, compared with those with the lowest quartile of TG/HDL-C ratio (≤2.07), those with the highest quartile (>5.61) had a significantly lower risk of more severe sarcopenia (OR 0.17, 95% CI 0.07 to 0.44). In multivariate linear regression, male patients with the highest quartile of TG/HDL-C ratio (β=0.36, 95% CI 0.20 to 0.51) had higher muscle mass than those with the lowest quartile. Similarly, female patients with the highest quartile of TG/HDL-C ratio (β=0.31, 95% CI 0.10 to 0.51) had higher muscle mass than those with the lowest quartile.Conclusions There was a negative association between TG/HDL-C ratio categorised by quartile and sarcopenia, which indicates that a higher TG/HDL-C ratio may be related to better muscle status.

Two novel heterobimetallic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), Ba4Pb4(CH3CO2)8[(CH6CO2)4Pb](CH3CO2)4 (PbBa-MOFs) and Ba2Ni(CO2H)6(OH2)4 (NiBa-MOFs), were prepared via the solvothermal method, and their structures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques. The pyrolysis behavior of the two MOFs and their catalytic performances on the dihydroxylammonium-5,5’-bistetrazole-1,1’-diolate (TKX-50) pyrolysis were studied by thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC) and thermogravimetric-fourier transform infrared spectroscopy-mass spectrum (TG-FTIR-MS) methods. Compare with the pure TKX-50, the pyrolysis peak temperature and apparent activation energy (Ea) of the TKX-50/PbBa-MOFs mixture were decreased by 3.2°C and 13.47 kJ‧mol−1 respectively. The Ea of TKX-50/NiBa-MOFs was decreased by 9.35 kJ‧mol−1. And the second pyrolysis peak disappeared in the DSC curves of TKX-50 after the addition of the two MOFs, due to that the products from MOFs pyrolysis suppress the chemical reaction pathway on the production of 5,5′-bis (2-hydroxytetrazole) (ABTOX) and accelerate the direct decomposition of 1,1’-bistetrazole diol (BTO). This resulted in the percentage of H2O decreased greatly and the percentage of NO/CH2O, CO2/N2O, NH2+/O• and NH3/OH increased during the pyrolysis of TKX-50. Finally, the relation between the pyrolysis and ignition characteristics was discussed and described. The two MOFs reduced the ignition delay time of the TKX-50 at the high power density region, and the flame becomes more luminous due to the formation of metal oxides and active free radical.

Molecular ferroic materials receive considerable interest in view of field-induced switchable polar/magnetic orders. Here, the authors exploit metal-free antiferroelectrics in molecular solid solutions to assemble high-performance ferroic materials.

Abstract The photopyroelectric effect in ferroelectrics has shown great potential for application in infrared detection and imaging. One particular subclass is broadband with dielectric bistability, which allows for large pyroelectric figures‐of‐merit (FOMs). Herein, an improper high‐Tc perovskite ferroelectric, (IA)2(EA)2Pb3Cl10 (1, where IA is isoamylammonium and EA is ethylammonium) is presented, in which spontaneous polarization (Ps) stems from the dynamic ordering of organic cations and the tilting of distorted PbCl6 octahedra. Notably, 1 displays unusual dielectric bistability with small variations in the temperature‐dependent dielectric constants near Tc = 392 K; this bistable attribute endows large pyroelectric FOMs with peak voltage efficiency (FV = 1.7×10−2 cm2 µC−1) and sensitivity (FD = 3.9×10−4 Pa−1/2). These FV and FD parameters, beyond those of their proper counterparts, make 1 a promising candidate for infrared photodetection. As expected, the broadband photopyroelectric effects observed in 1 covered the ultraviolet to infrared‐II spectral region (266–1950 nm). Such Ps‐directed photoactivities overcome the optical bandgap limitation and allow for wide‐wave photodetection. As an innovative study on improper ferroelectricity, light is shaded here on the targeted engineering of new electrically ordered candidate materials for smart optoelectronic devices.

ObjectivesThe mechanism of Brucella infection regulating macrophage phenotype has not been completely elucidated until now. This study aimed to determine the mechanism of Brucella abortus in the modulation of macrophage phenotype using RAW264.7 cells as a model.Materials and methodsRT-qPCR, ELISA and flow cytometry were used to detect the inflammatory factor production and phenotype conversion associated with M1/M2 polarization of macrophages by Brucella abortus infection. Western blot and immunofluorescence were used to analyze the role of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway in regulation of Brucella abortus-induced macrophage polarization. Chromatin immunoprecipitation sequencing (Chip‐seq), bioinformatics analysis and luciferase reporter assay were used to screen and validate NF-κB target genes associated with macrophage polarization and further verify its function.ResultsThe results demonstrate that B. abortus induces a macrophage phenotypic switch and inflammatory response in a time-dependent manner. With the increase of infection time, B. abortus infection-induced M1-type increased first, peaked at 12 h, and then decreased, whereas the M2-type decreased first, trough at 12 h, and then increased. The trend of intracellular survival of B. abortus was consistent with that of M2 type. When NF-κB was inhibited, M1-type polarization was inhibited and M2-type was promoted, and the intracellular survival of B. abortus increased significantly. Chip‐seq and luciferase reporter assay results showed that NF-κB binds to the glutaminase gene (Gls). Gls expression was down-regulated when NF-κB was inhibited. Furthermore, when Gls was inhibited, M1-type polarization was inhibited and M2-type was promoted, the intracellular survival of B. abortus increased significantly. Our data further suggest that NF-κB and its key target gene Gls play an important role in controlling macrophage phenotypic transformation. ConclusionsTaken together, our study demonstrates that B. abortus infection can induce dynamic transformation of M1/M2 phenotype in macrophages. Highlighting NF-κB as a central pathway that regulates M1/M2 phenotypic transition. This is the first to elucidate the molecular mechanism of B. abortus regulation of macrophage phenotype switch and inflammatory response by regulating the key gene Gls, which is regulated by the transcription factor NF-κB.

Abstract Ferroelectricity, characterized by the reversible switching of spontaneous polarization (Ps) under external electric field, exists in polar crystalline materials without a spatial‐inversion symmetry. On account of inherent Ps, ferroelectric materials show intriguing physical properties including piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity, second‐order optical nonlinearity, and electro‐optic effect. Such functions of ferroelectric materials have been widely used for practical applications. Recently, hybrid perovskites are emerging as a promising ferroelectric family that enables the combination and/or coupling of ferroelectricity, photoexcitation, and semiconductor behaviors. Due to the polarization deterioration caused by leakage current of photoexcited carriers, however, it is still a challenge to accomplish practical applications of ferroelectric semiconductors in the photoelectric field. In this review, the recent progress of ferroelectric system of perovskite‐type hybrids with different dimensions is summarized. Primarily, a brief description of crystallographic symmetry breaking which is a fundamental criterion to creating ferroelectricity, is illuminated. The combination and/or coupling of photoelectric properties with ferroelectric Ps is then presented. Finally, the further development tendency and possible application outlooks of this ferroelectric material system are prospected.

Magnesium (Mg) is the most commonly deficient nutrient in tropical banana-growing areas. The effects of different concentrations of Mg on morpho-physiological and biochemical responses on three commercial cultivars (Baxi, Haigong, and Guangfen No.1) of bananas were accessed for 12 weeks. Results showed genotypic variation in the utilization and tolerance to different Mg levels. The optimum Mg level was 1 mM for Baxi and Guangfen No.1 and 3 mM for Haigong. Both the deficiency and excess of Mg caused a severe reduction in plant height, dry weight, total root length, and root surface area of Haigong and Baxi. Mg stress reduced root growth by impairing photosynthate translocation and increased carbohydrate contents in the source leaf. Under Mg stress, more reduction in photosynthetic pigment and photosynthesis rate, higher accumulation of carbohydrates and malondialdehyde contents, and higher activities of antioxidative enzymes were observed in Haigong as compared to other genotypes. Based on the above results, it is concluded that Haigong is most sensitive to Mg stress while Guangfen No. 1 was least affected and tolerant to changes in the Mg levels.

Most known electrocaloric materials show relatively poor cooling performance near room temperature, hindering their applications. Here, the authors achieve large electrocaloric effect near room temperature in a hybrid perovskite ferroelectric, useful for high-performance solid-state refrigeration.

Brucella can inhabit hostile environments, including osmotic stress. How Brucella responds collectively to osmotic stress is largely unexplored, particularly in spatially structured communities such as a biofilm. To gain insight into this growth mode, we set out to characterize the Brucella melitensis 16M biofilm, describe its phenotype, and carry out a comparative transcriptomic analysis between biofilms under osmotic stress and control conditions. We determined that the bacteria challenged with 1.5 M NaCl had a reduced ability to aggregate and form clumps and develop a biofilm; however, the salt stress promoted the release of the outer membrane vesicles from the biofilm. Together with the genotypical response to osmotic stress, we identified 279 differentially expressed genes in B. melitensis 16M grown under osmotic conditions compared with control conditions; 69 genes were upregulated and 210 downregulated. Under osmotic stress, the main changed genes of biofilm were predicted to be involved in flagellar assembly, cell envelope, translation, small RNA regulation, transport and binding proteins, and energy metabolism. In addition, the ABC transporter was enriched in the Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways. We highlight 12 essential ABC transporter genes associated with a bacterial response to osmotic stress at the biofilm stage, including one specific locus, BME_RS12880, mediating betaine accumulation in biofilms to eliminate osmotic stress. The current study results can help researchers gain insights into B. melitensis 16M biofilm adaptation to osmotic stress and provide information for developing intervention strategies to control Brucella.

Despite the recognized epidemiological importance of ticks as vectors for pathogens that cause numerous zoonotic and veterinary diseases, data regarding the pathogens of pet dogs and their parasitic ticks in the Junggar Basin are scarce. In this study, a total of 178 blood samples and 436 parasitic ticks were collected from pet dogs in Junggar Basin, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), north-western China. All ticks were identified as Rhipicephalus turanicus sensu stricto (s.s.) according to morphological and molecular characteristics. Rh. turanicus s.s. ticks were collected from pet dogs in China for the first time. Seven tick-borne pathogens, such as Ehrlichia chaffeensis, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Rickettsia massiliae, Candidatus R. barbariae, Brucella spp., Rickettsia sibirica, and Anaplasma ovis, were detected from ticks, whereas the first five bacteria were detected from blood samples of dogs. Brucella spp. was the most predominant pathogen in both blood samples and ticks of pet dogs, with the detection rates of 16.29 and 16.74%, respectively. Moreover, 17 ticks and 1 blood sample were co-infected with two pathogens, and 1 tick was co-infected with three pathogens. This study provided molecular evidence for the occurrence of Anaplasma spp., Ehrlichia spp., Rickettsia spp., and Brucella spp. circulating in pet dogs and their parasitic ticks in Junggar Basin, north-western China. These findings extend our knowledge of the tick-borne pathogens in pet dogs and their parasitic ticks in Central Asia; therefore, further research on these pathogens and their role in human and animal diseases is required.

The dynamic measurement and correction of infrared radiation temperature for rocket motor exhaust plume was established based on Stefan-Boltzmann formula under the assumption that the colorimetric temperature is regarded as the real value. The relationship between the spectral emissivity of the exhaust plume and time is obtained, and the temperature distribution measured by the infrared thermal imager is corrected in real time. During the stable working period of the rocket motor, the maximum value of the infrared radiation temperature distribution curve and the average value corresponding to the time are used to represent the maximum and average infrared radiation temperature of the motor exhaust plume field. This method is applicable to the real-time determination of the spectral emissivity of the exhaust plume and the accurate measurement of the infrared radiation temperature distribution at static or rocket sled flight state, and is of great significance to the development of the low-signature rocket motor and propellant charge.

The fracture toughness of sand concrete is affected by aggregate characteristics. In order to study the possibility of exploiting tailings sand, available in large quantities in sand concrete, and find an approach to improve the toughness of sand concrete by selecting appropriate fine aggregate. Three distinct fine aggregates have been used. After characterizing the fine aggregate used, the mechanical properties were tested to characterize the toughness of sand concrete, the box-counting fractal dimensions were calculated to analyze the roughness of fracture surfaces, and the microstructure was tested to observe the path and width of microcracks and hydration products in sand concrete. The results show that the mineral composition of fine aggregates is close, but their fineness modulus, fine aggregate angularity (FAA) and gradation vary considerably; FAA has a significant impact on the fracture toughness of sand concrete. The higher the FAA value, the more resistant it is to crack expansion; with the FAA values of from 32 s to 44 s, the microcrack width in sand concrete was reduced from 0.25 um to 0.14 um; The fracture toughness and microstructure of sand concrete are also related to the gradation of fine aggregates, the better gradation can improve the performance of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). The hydration products in the ITZ are also different because more reasonable gradation of aggregates reduces the voids between the fine aggregates and the cement paste and restrains the full growth of crystals. These results demonstrate that sand concrete has promising applications in the field of construction engineering.

Carbon source starvation can promote steel corrosion in the presence of a pure culture through extracellular electron transfer (EET). However, the impact of carbon source starvation on corrosion induced by mixed strains is still unknown. This work investigated the impact of carbon source starvation on EH40 steel corrosion in the presence of Desulfovibrio vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, typical species of sulfate- and nitrate-reducing bacteria. It was found that the impact of carbon source starvation on corrosion depended on nitrate addition. When nitrate (5 g∙L−1 NaNO3) was not added, the corrosion was promoted by carbon source starvation. However, the corrosion was initially promoted by carbon source starvation, but later inhibited with nitrate addition. The corrosion behaviors in different systems were closely related to different numbers of the strains in biofilms and their metabolic activities, and the mechanisms were revealed.

Based on core, logging, lab test and seismic data, sedimentary characteristics and pattern of marine hyperpycnal flow, the distribution rules of hyperpycnal flow reservoir, prediction method of favorable hyperpycnal flow reservoir zones, hydrocarbon accumulation model in hyperpycnal flow reservoir in D block of Bay of Bengal were investigated, and the favorable exploration zone and well sites were predicted. Pliocene in D block has typical hyperpycnal flow sediment, which is a set of fine-medium sandstone held between thick layers of marine mudstone and features a series of reverse grading unit and normal grading unit pairs. The hyperpycnal flow sediment appears as heavily jagged box shape, bell shape and tongue shape facies on log curves with linear gradient, and corresponds to multiple phases of deep channels on the seismic section and high sinuous channel on stratal slices. The sedimentary bodies formed by a single phase hyperpycnal flow which include five types of microfacies, namely, supply channel (valley), channel complex, branch channel, levee and sheet sand. The hyperpycnal flow sediments appear in multiple branches, multiple generations and stages in space, forming high-quality reservoirs in strips on the plane and superposition vertically, with fairly good physical properties. The channel complex sandstone, with large thickness, coarse particle size and good physical properties, is the most favorable exploration facies. Based on the guidance of the sedimentary model, distribution of the channel complex microfacies was delineated in detail by seismic reflection structure analysis, spectrum waveform characteristic analysis, slice and attribute fusion, and combined with the structural feature analysis, the favorable drilling zone was sorted out, effectively guiding the exploration deployment of the block. Abstract Background The significance of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in mediating oxidative stress of cancers has been implicated recently. This study proposed a potential therapeutic target lncRNA growth arrest-specific transcript 5 (GAS5) for melanoma, due to its crucial role in oxidative stress and apoptosis of melanoma cells by regulating the enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2)-mediated CDKN1C expression. Methods The lncRNA GAS5 expression pattern was examined in melanoma tissues and cells. The correlation of lncRNA GAS5, EZH2, and CDKN1C with survival rate of melanoma patients was analyzed. In melanoma cell lines, lncRNA GAS5 expression was overexpressed or knocked down to clarify its effects on cell viability, apoptosis, and oxidative stress. The interaction between lncRNA GAS5 and EZH2 was examined by RIP and RNA pull-down assays followed by verification of the target relationship between EZH2 and CDKN1C. Results High expression of EZH2 and poor expression of lncRNA GAS5 and CDKN1C was observed in melanoma tissues and found to be correlated with the reduction in survival expectancy of melanoma patients. Overexpression of lncRNA GAS5 or CDKN1C or EZH2 knockdown could inhibit cell viability but enhance melanoma cell apoptosis and oxidative stress. Importantly, lncRNA GAS5 attenuated EZH2 expression by recruiting E2F4 to the EZH2 promoter region and knockdown of EZH2 upregulated CDKN1C expression by inhibiting the H3K27me3. Conclusion The evidence provided by our study highlighted the involvement of lncRNA GAS5 in the translational suppression of EZH2 as well as the upregulation of CDKN1C, resulting in the promotion of melanoma cell apoptosis and oxidative stress.

Abstract Background Melanoma is notoriously resistant to current treatments, and less than 25% of metastatic melanoma cases respond to existing therapies. Growing evidence has shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) play a vital role in the prognosis of melanoma. MiR-517a has been implicated in many types of cancer; however, its expressional features and potential biological functions in melanoma remain unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the possible effects of miR-517a on oxidative stress (OS) in melanoma cells. Methods miR-517a expression in melanoma was determined using RT-qPCR. After treatment with different concentrations of H2O2, cell viability was determined in order to identify the most appropriate H2O2 concentration. Through loss and gain of function experiments, the interactions between miR-517a, the cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 1C (CDKN1C) and the c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway, as well as their roles in OS of melanoma cells were identified. Moreover, the expression of Cleaved Caspase-3, extent of ERK1/2 phosphorylation, Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, levels of T-AOC, ROS and MDA, and SOD activity were also tested. Finally, melanoma cell viability and apoptosis were detected. Results MiR-517a was upregulated, while CDKN1C was downregulated in melanoma tissues and cells. MiR-517a targets CDKN1C and consequently reduced its expression. Inhibition of miR-517a was shown to increase Cleaved Caspase-3 expression, Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, levels of ROS and MDA, as well as cell apoptosis but decrease extent of ERK1/2 phosphorylation, T-AOC levels, SOD activity, along with cell proliferation and mitochondrial membrane potential. Conclusions Overall, silencing miR-517a results in upregulated CDKN1C expression, and inhibited JNK signaling pathway activation, consequently promoting OS in melanoma cells.

Cancer is a serious disease with high mortality and morbidity worldwide. Natural products have served as a major source for developing new anticancer drugs during recent decades. Magnolol, a representative natural phenolic lignan isolated from Magnolia officinali, has attracted considerable attention for its anticancer properties in recent years. Accumulating preclinical studies have demonstrated the tremendous therapeutic potential of magnolol via a wide range of pharmacological mechanisms against cancer. In this review, we summarized the latest advances in preclinical studies investigating anticancer properties of magnolol and described the important signaling pathways explaining its underlying mechanisms. Magnolol was capable of inhibiting cancer growth and metastasis against various cancer types. Magnolol exerted anticancer effects through inhibiting proliferation, inducing cell cycle arrest, provoking apoptosis, restraining migration and invasion, and suppressing angiogenesis. Multiple signaling pathways were also involved in the pharmacological actions of magnolol against cancer, such as PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling, MAPK signaling and NF-κB signaling. Based on this existing evidence summarized in the review, we have conclusively confirmed magnolol had a multi-target anticancer effect against heterogeneous cancer disease. It is promising to develop magnolol as a drug candidate for cancer therapy in the future.

BackgroundPrevious studies have proved that peripheral nerve injury is involved in the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain (NP). The peripheral nerve injury primes spinal M1 microglia phenotype and produces pro-inflammatory cytokines, which are responsible for neurotoxic and neuronal hyper-excitable outcomes. Spinal peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR γ) has been shown to play an anti-inflammatory role in the development of NP. However, the role of PPAR γ in attenuating the pathological pathway of spinal microgliosis is still unknown.MethodsSprague-Dawley rats (male, aged 8–10 weeks) were randomly divided into three groups, i.e., a control group, a NP group, and a NP + lentivirus encoding PPAR γ (LV-PPAR γ) group. The sciatic chronic constriction injury (CCI) model was used to induce NP in rats. Pain behavior was assessed by monitoring the rat hind-paw withdrawal threshold to mechanical stimuli and withdrawal latency to radiant heat. The LV-PPAR γ was intrathecally infused 1 day before CCI. Western blot analysis and real-time qPCR were used to detect the microglia phenotypic molecules and CX3CR1 expression in the spinal cord. In vitro, BV-2 microglia cells were transfected with LV-PPAR γ and incubated with lipopolysaccharides (LPS), and the levels of M1 microglia phenotypic molecules and CX3CR1 in BV-2 microglia cells were assessed by western blot analysis, real-time qPCR, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.ResultsPreoperative intrathecal infusion of LV-PPAR γ attenuated pain in rats 7 days post-CCI. The M1-microglia marker, CX3CR1, and pro-inflammatory signaling factors were increased in the spinal cord of CCI rats, while the preoperative intrathecal infusion of LV-PPAR γ attenuated these changes and increased the expression of IL-10. In vitro, the overexpression of PPAR γ in BV-2 cells reduced LPS-induced M1 microglia polarization and the levels of CX3CR1 and pro-inflammatory cytokines.ConclusionIntrathecal infusion of LV-PPAR γ exerts a protective effect on the development of NP induced by CCI in rats. The overexpression of PPAR γ may produce both analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects due to inhibition of the M1 phenotype and CX3CR1 signaling pathway in spinal microglia.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the large-scale structural rich club organization was abnormal in patients with Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and the associations among disrupted brain structural connectivity, disease duration, and neuro-ophthalmological impairment. Methods: Nineteen acute, 34 chronic LHON patients, and 36 healthy controls (HC) underwent DTI and neuro-ophthalmological measurements. The brain structural network and rich club organization were constructed based on deterministic fiber tracking at the individual level. Then intergroup differences among the acute, chronic LHON patients and healthy controls (HC) in three types of structural connections, including rich club, feeder, and local ones, were compared. Network-based Statistics (NBS) was also used to test the intergroup connectivity differences for each fiber. Several linear and nonlinear curve fit models were applied to explore the associations among large-scale brain structural connectivity, disease duration, and neuro-ophthalmological metrics. Results: Compared to the HC, both the acute and chronic LHON patients had consistently significantly lower fractional anisotropy (FA) and higher radial diffusion (RD) for feeder connections (p 0.05, FDR correction). NBS also identified reduced FA of three feeder connections and five local ones linking visual, auditory, and basal ganglia areas in LHON patients (p 0.05, FDR correction). BackgroundIn recent years, the price of pork in China continues to fluctuate at a high level. The forecast of pork price becomes more important. Single prediction models are often used for this work, but they are not accurate enough. This paper proposes a new method based on Census X12-GM(1,1) combination model.MethodsMonthly pork price data from January 2014 to December 2020 were obtained from the State Statistics Bureau(Mainland China). Census X12 model was adopted to get the long-term trend factor, business cycle change factor and seasonal factor of pork price data before September 2020. GM (1,1) model was used to fit and predict the long-term trend factor and business cycle change factor. The fitting and forecasting values of GM(1,1) were multiplied by the seasonal factor and empirical seasonal factor individually to obtain the fitting and forecasting values of the original monthly pork price series.ResultsThe expression of GM(1,1) model for fitting and forecasting long-term trend factor and and business cycle change factor was X(1)(k) = -1704.80e-0.022(k-1) + 1742.36. Empirical seasonal factor of predicted values was 1.002 Using Census X12-GM(1,1) method, the final forecast values of pork price from July 2020 to December 2020 were 34.75, 33.98, 33.23, 32.50, 31.78 and 31.08 respectively. Compared with ARIMA, GM(1,1) and Holt-Winters models, Root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and mean absolute error (MAE) of Census X12-GM(1,1) method was the lowest on forecasting part.ConclusionsCompared with other single model, Census X12-GM(1,1) method has better prediction accuracy for monthly pork price series. The monthly pork price predicted by Census X12-GM(1,1) method can be used as an important reference for stakeholders.

ObjectivesThe underlying mechanism of the inflammatory response against Brucellosis caused by Brucella remains poorly understood. This study aimed to determine the role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in regulating of inflammatory and anti-Brucella responses.Materials and methodsMicroarray analysis was performed to detect differentially expressed lncRNAs in THP-1 cells infected with an S2308 Brucella strain. The candidate lncRNAs were screened using bioinformatic analysis and siRNAs; bioinformatic prediction and luciferase reporter assay were also conducted, while inflammatory responses was assessed using RT‐qPCR, western blot, immunofluorescence, ELISA, HE, and immunohistochemistry.ResultsThe lncRNA Gm28309 was identified to be involved in regulating inflammation induced by Brucella. Gm28309, localized in the cytoplasm, was down-expressed in RAW264.7 cells infected with S2308. Overexpression of Gm28309 or inhibition of miR-3068-5p repressed p65 phosphorylation and reduced NLRP3 inflammasome and IL-1β and IL-18 secretion. Mechanistically, Gm28309 acted as a ceRNA of miR-3068-5p to activate NF-κB pathway by targeting κB-Ras2, an inhibitor of NF-κB signaling. Moreover, the number of intracellular Brucella was higher when Gm28309 was overexpressed or when miR-3068-5p or p65 was inhibited. However, these effects were reversed by the miR-3068-5p mimic.ConclusionsOur study demonstrates, for the first time, that LncRNAs are involved in regulating immune responses during Brucella infection, and Gm28309, an lncRNA, plays a crucial role in activating NF-κB/NLRP3 inflammasome signaling pathway.

As the major cause of female anovulatory infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects a great proportion of women at childbearing age. Although glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists (GLP-IRAs) show therapeutic effects for PCOS, its target and underlying mechanism remains elusive. In the present study, we identified that, both in vivo and in vitro, GLP-1 functioned as the regulator of proliferation and antiapoptosis of MGCs of follicle in PCOS mouse ovary. Furthermore, forkhead box protein O1 (FoxO1) plays an important role in the courses. Regarding the importance of granulosa cells (GCs) in oocyte development and function, the results from the current study could provide a more detailed illustration on the already known beneficial effects of GLP-1RAs on PCOS and support the future efforts to develop more efficient GLP-1RAs for PCOS treatment.

The composition, structure, and thermal behaviors of yttrium-containing phosphate glasses were studied in this work, and the glass-ceramics were prepared via the two-step crystallization method. The XRD and SEM-EDS results show the forming range of the phosphate glass system and the formation of YPO4 (xenotime) due to the addition of excessive Y2O3. The spectroscopic characterization of these glasses presented shifts of the infrared and Raman bands, demonstrating the depolymerization of the glass network and the formation of novel P–O–Y bonds, and the deconvoluted Raman spectra also exhibited the occurrence of the disproportionation reaction in the glass melting process. The content of non-bridging oxygen (NBOs) from the UV–vis spectra first increased and then decreased with increasing Y2O3. The thermal behaviors show that the Y2O3 reduced the crystallization peak temperature and the thermal stability of the glasses. The crystalline behaviors of the phosphate glass matrix were investigated at different crystallization times of 2–10 h, and a transformation of the crystallization mechanism from surface to volume crystallization was found. The yttrium phosphate glass-ceramics crystallized for 10 h exhibited transformation of the main crystalline phases with increasing Y2O3, and the grain-oriented crystalline surface became irregular.

Eggshell quality is economically important for table eggs and functionally indispensable for hatching eggs. During the formation of eggshell in the uterus, organic matrixes in uterine fluid can control and modify the formation of calcified eggshell. At present, there are limited studies focusing on the effect of uterine organic metabolites on eggshell quality. In this study, an LC-MS-based metabolomic technology was performed to identify the crucial uterine metabolites that differently presented in hens producing eggs with divergent eggshell quality (eggshell strength, thickness, and weight). More than 1000 metabolites were identified in uterine fluid, and six putative metabolites, including phosphatidylcholine, diacylglycerol, verapamil, risedronate, coproporphyrinogen III, and biliverdin, were screened to play crucial roles in eggshell calcification. Then, two trials for oral administration and in vitro calcite crystal growth were conducted to verify the effect of potential different metabolites on the eggshell quality. Verapamil has a temporary effect on decreasing eggshell strength and eggshell thickness. Coproporphyrinogen III could induce smaller calcite crystals to improve eggshell strength while biliverdin could modify crystal morphology by forming rougher faces and rounder edges to strengthen the eggshell. The present study gives us new insight to understand the role of uterine fluid matrixes in eggshell calcification.

Thermal treatments of milk induce changes in the properties of milk whey proteins. The aim of this study was to investigate the specific changes related to nutrients in the whey proteins of dairy cow milk after pasteurization at 85 °C for 15 s or ultra-high temperature (UHT) at 135 °C for 15 s. A total of 223 whey proteins were confidently identified and quantified by TMT-based global discovery proteomics in this study. We found that UHT thermal treatment resulted in an increased abundance of 17 proteins, which appeared to show heat insensitivity. In contrast, 15 heat-sensitive proteins were decreased in abundance after UHT thermal treatment. Some of the heat-sensitive proteins were connected with the biological immune functionality, suggesting that UHT thermal treatment results in a partial loss of immune function in the whey proteins of dairy cow milk. The information reported here will considerably expand our knowledge about the degree of heat sensitivity in the whey proteins of dairy cow milk in response to different thermal treatments and offer a knowledge-based reference to aid in choosing dairy products. It is worth noting that the whey proteins (lactoperoxidase and lactoperoxidase) in milk that were significantly decreased by high heat treatment in a previous study (142 °C) showed no significant difference in the present study (135 °C). These results may imply that an appropriately reduced heating intensity of UHT retains the immunoactive proteins to the maximum extent possible.

Based on the tectonic evolution and depositional characteristics of Central–West African Rift System and regional geologic background, the characteristics of oil and gas accumulation in the Termit rift superimposed basin were examined, and the factors controlling oil and gas accumulation there were discussed. The Termit basin is a rift superimposed basin formed by two stages of rifting in the early Cretaceous and Paleogene, where the Yogou Formation marine source rock is widespread. The two sets of reservoirs, the first member of the Paleogene Sokor Formation and the Cretaceous Yogou Formation, dominated by quartz sandstone, have relatively good porosity-permeability characteristics. They can form multiple sets of favorable caprock-reservoir assemblage below the regional caprock of the second member of Paleogene Sokor Formation. It is found that fault pattern and oil and gas migration pattern control the oil and gas accumulation patterns in the basin, including “Y-shaped” hydrocarbon migration and accumulation in the Araga graben, “multi-step” vertical hydrocarbon migration and accumulation in the Dinga faulted terrace, and the “composite” hydrocarbon migration and accumulation in the Fana transfer zone. Hydrocarbon enrichment in this basin was controlled by tectonic evolution of rift basins, that is, fault belts formed during the two stages of rifting controlled the horizontal distribution of oil and gas, while favorable reservoir-caprock assemblages in the sequences formed in the late rifting stage controlled the vertical hydrocarbon enrichment. The α9-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) is increasingly emerging as a new tumor target owing to its high expression specificity in breast cancer. αO-Conotoxin GeXIVA is a potent antagonist of α9α10 nAChR. Nevertheless, the anti-tumor effect of GeXIVA on breast cancer cells remains unclear. Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was used to study the cell viability of breast cancer MDA-MD-157 cells and human normal breast epithelial cells, which were exposed to different doses of GeXIVA. Flow cytometry was adopted to detect the cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of GeXIVA in breast cancer cells. Migration ability was analyzed by wound healing assay. Western blot (WB), quantitative real-time PCR (QRT-PCR) and flow cytometry were used to determine expression of α9-nAChR. Stable MDA-MB-157 breast cancer cell line, with the α9-nAChR subunit knocked out (KO), was established using the CRISPR/Cas9 technique. GeXIVA was able to significantly inhibit the proliferation and promote apoptosis of breast cancer MDA-MB-157 cells. Furthermore, the proliferation of breast cancer MDA-MB-157 cells was inhibited by GeXIVA, which caused cell cycle arrest through downregulating α9-nAChR. GeXIVA could suppress MDA-MB-157 cell migration as well. This demonstrates that GeXIVA induced a downregulation of α9-nAChR expression, and the growth of MDA-MB-157 α9-nAChR KO cell line was inhibited as well, due to α9-nAChR deletion. GeXIVA inhibits the growth of breast cancer cell MDA-MB-157 cells in vitro and may occur in a mechanism abolishing α9-nAChR.

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are membrane receptors and play a major role in tumorigenesis and cancer progression. Here, we have investigated the differential expression of nAChR subunits in human breast cancer cell lines and breast epithelial cell lines at mRNA and protein levels and the effects of the αO-conotoxin GeXIVA, antagonist of α9α10 nAChR, on human breast cancer cells. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) demonstrated that all nAChR subunits, except α6, were expressed in the 20 tested cell lines. Real time quantitative PCR (QRT-PCR) suggested that the mRNA of α5, α7, α9 and β4 nAChR subunits were overexpressed in all the breast cancer cell lines compared with the normal epithelial cell line HS578BST. α9 nAChR was highly expressed in almost all the breast cancer cell lines in comparison to normal cells. The different expression is prominent (p < 0.001) as determined by flow cytometry and Western blotting, except for MDA-MB-453 and HCC1395 cell lines. αO-conotoxin GeXIVA that targeted α9α10 nAChR were able to significantly inhibit breast cancer cell proliferation in vitro and merits further investigation as potential agents for targeted therapy.

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are associated with various cancers, but the relation between nAChRs and cervical cancer remains unclear. Therefore, this study investigated the differential expression of nAChR subunits in human cervical cancer cell lines (SiHa, HeLa, and CaSki) and in normal ectocervical cell lines (Ect1/E6E7) at mRNA and protein levels. Two specific nAChR subtype blockers, αO-conotoxin GeXIVA and α-conotoxin TxID, were then selected to treat different human cervical cancer cell lines with specific nAChR subtype overexpression. The results showed that α3, α9, α10, and β4 nAChR subunits were overexpressed in SiHa cells compared with that in normal cells. α9 and α10 nAChR subunits were overexpressed in CaSki cells. α*-conotoxins that targeted either α9α10 or α3β4 nAChR were able to significantly inhibit cervical cancer cell proliferation. These findings may provide a basis for new targets for cervical cancer targeted therapy.

By using ionic liquids as solvents, the chlorination or bromination of unprotected anilines at the para-position can be achieved in high yields with copper halides under mild conditions, without the need for potentially hazardous operations such as supplementing oxygen or gaseous HCl.

Chlorination with equimolar POCl3 can be efficiently achieved not only for hydroxypyrimidines, but also for many other substrates such as 2-hydroxy-pyridines, -quinoxalines, or even -amides. The procedure is solvent-free and involves heating in a sealed reactor at high temperatures using one equivalent of pyridine as base. It is suitable for large scale (multigram) batch preparations.

Membrane fouling caused by effluent organic matter (EfOM) limits its further application in wastewater reuse. In this study, the effect of UV/chlorine pretreatment on membrane fouling was investigated in treating secondary effluent by ultrafiltration (UF) process. The relation between organic matter changes and fouling alleviation after UV/chlorine pretreatment was also studied according to the molecular weight (MW) changes in various resin fractions derived from EfOM. Results showed that UV/chlorine pretreatment effectively alleviated irreversible fouling, whereas chlorine pre-oxidation primarily mitigated reversible fouling. UV/chlorine pre-oxidation reduced 18% of reversible membrane fouling and 38% of irreversible membrane fouling at a chlorine dosage of 8 mg/L, indicating better performance in membrane fouling mitigation than chlorine pre-oxidation. UV/chlorine pre-oxidation also decreased dissolved organic matter in the UF permeate. The hydrophobic acidic (HPO-A) fraction caused dominant membrane fouling, while the hydrophilic (HPI) fraction contained most of high MW organic matter. Pre-oxidation changed the polarity of organic matter in the HPO-A fraction and decomposed the organics of high MW in the HPI fraction, which alleviated membrane fouling. These results showed that UV/chlorine pre-oxidation was a prospective pretreatment process prior to UF in wastewater reclamation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
