Abstract Nowadays, the depletion of non‐renewable energy sources has become a prominent issue, and environmental concerns such as air pollution stemming from vehicle emissions have reached a critical stage. In this manuscript, we introduce a novel approach for the fabrication of Pt/C catalysts on a large scale, utilizing a simple, rapid, and continuous pipeline microwave synthesis method. Moreover, we incorporate a heating treatment process in an N2−H2 (5 % H2) environment to enhance the activity and durability of the catalyst. The synthesized Pt/C‐400 catalyst demonstrates an impressive electrochemical active surface area of 103.2 m2/gpt and a mass‐specific activity of 315 mA/mg at a half‐wave potential of 0.9 V. Following 30000 cycles of Pt attenuation testing and 30000 cycles of carrier attenuation testing, the Pt/C‐400 catalyst exhibits a remarkable retention rate of 75 %. Furthermore, based on single‐cell testing, the Pt/C‐400 catalyst achieves a voltage of 0.606 V at a current density of 2000 mA/cm2, surpassing the performance of other Pt/C catalysts discussed in this article. This study presents an efficient and practical method for large‐scale synthesis of high‐performance and durable catalysts. The findings hold significant implications for the commercialization of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells and contribute to addressing the pressing need for sustainable energy solutions.

The fermentation process of Chinese Xifeng liquor involves numerous microbes. However, the sources of microbes in fermented grain and the link between liquor flavour and physicochemical properties and microbial diversity during fermentation still remain unknown. Herein, two waxy (JiNiang 2 [JN-2] and JinNuo 3 [JN-3]) and four non-waxy (JiZa 127 [JZ-127], JinZa 34 [JZ-34], LiaoZa 19 [LZ-19], and JiaXian [JX]) sorghum varieties were selected for the comprehensive analysis of the relationship between liquor flavour and the physicochemical properties and microbial diversity of fermented grains. Results showed that ethyl acetate was the main flavour component of JZ-127, JZ-34, and JX, whereas ethyl lactate was mainly detected in JN-2, JN-3, and LZ-19. Ethyl lactate accounted for half of the ethyl acetate content, and JX exhibited a higher liquor yield than the other sorghum varieties. The fermented grains of waxy sorghum presented higher temperature and reducing sugar contents but lower moisture and starch contents than their non-waxy counterparts during fermentation. We selected JN-3 and JX sorghum varieties to further investigate the microbial changes in the fermented grains. The bacterial diversity gradually reduced, whereas the fungal diversity showed nearly no change in either JN-3 or JX. Lactobacillus was the most abundant bacterial genus, and its level rapidly increased during fermentation. The abundance of Lactobacillus accounted for the total proportion of bacteria in JX, and it was higher than that in JN-3. Saccharomyces was the most abundant fungal genus in JX, but its abundance accounted for a small proportion of fungi in JN-3. Four esters and five alcohols were significantly positively related to Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Actinobacteria; Alphaproteobacteria, Actinobacteria, and Bacteroidia; Bacillales, Bacteroidales, and Rhodospirillales; and Acetobacter, Pediococcus, and Prevotella_7. This positive relation is in contrast with that observed for Firmicutes, Bacilli, Lactobacillales, and Lactobacillus. Meanwhile, Aspergillus was the only fungal microorganism that showed a significantly negative relation with such compounds (except for butanol and isopentanol). These findings will help in understanding the fermentation mechanism and flavour formation of fermented Xifeng liquor.

Abstract The ratmouth barbel (Ptychidio jordani) is a critically endangered freshwater fish from the Cyprinidae family, primarily due to overfishing and habitat disruption. To address the challenges of its shrinking wild populations and the difficulties in artificial reproduction, we sequenced, assembled, and annotated a high-quality chromosome-level genome of P. jordani using next-generation short-read sequencing, third-generation long-read sequencing, and Hi-C sequencing. The final genome assembly was 1.14 Gb, consisting of 25 chromosomes with a contig N50 of 25.14 Mb and a scaffold N50 of 42.91 Mb. We identified 25,183 protein-coding genes, 751.75 Mb of repeats, and 19,373 ncRNAs. Methylation loci on most chromosomes ranged from 1,000 to 3,000 per 100 kb window. Gene expression levels across various tissues were analyzed, revealing 12,135 (caudal fin), 11,465 (liver), 14,438 (gill), 12,413 (heart), 8,301 (spleen), and 3,578 (kidney) differentially expressed genes compared to muscle. The comprehensive genomic and transcriptomic resources generated here will aid in understanding the ecology, adaptation, and environmental responses of P. jordani, supporting future research and conservation efforts.

Abstract Streptococcus suis serotypes 2 and 14 are the most common zoonotic strains, but previous identification methods made distinguish these two serotypes from other S. suis serotypes difficult. To effectively prevent and control them, there is an urgent need for a highly sensitive and specific method to identify these two serotypes. In this study, a fluorescent probe was designed for the single nucleotide polymorphism site at cpsK 483 of Streptococcus suis type 2 and type 14 compared with other serotypes, and an enzyme-activated probe quantitative PCR (EA-probe qPCR) method was established for the detection of Streptococcus suis type 2 and type 14 by combining with the specific hydrolysis characteristics of the RNase H2 enzyme. The results showed that the optimal probe concentration for this method was 0.5 µM and the optimal RNase H2 enzyme concentration was 25 mU.This method showed no reactivity with genomic DNA from Streptococcus suis strains 1/2, 5, 7, 9, 23, 28, 29, and 31, confirming its high specificity. And its sensitivity can reach 18.4 CFU. In addition, 19 clinical strains of Streptococcus suis type 2 or type 1/2 were tested. The results showed 100% agreement with the gene sequencing method. In conclusion, this method can meet the needs of accurate laboratory testing of Streptococcus suis serotypes 2 and 14 and has value for clinical prevention.

ABSTRACT The VII secretion system is the main channel for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) to secrete virulence proteins. The ESAT-like proteins EsxA/B and EsxW/V in the RD region of its genome have been used as targets for vaccine antigens. However, the function of EsxO/P has not been explored, although it was predicted to potentially induce Th1 cell responses as a vaccine development target. In this study, the VII secretion system effector molecule Rv2347c was heterologously expressed in Mycobacterium smegmatis and found to inhibit the expression of the early marker RAB5 of phagosomes, thus preventing the maturation process of phagosomes toward lysosomes, and activated the host cytoplasmic sensing pathway. It inhibited autophagy and activated IFNβ transcription through the STING/TBK1 pathway promoting the host’s survival. Therefore, Rv2347c plays an important role in the pathogenesis of MTB with the potential to be utilized as a new target for tuberculosis vaccine development.IMPORTANCEWe found that the ESAT-like protein Rv2347c (EsxP) can inhibit the maturation of phagosomes, leading to mycobacterium escape from phagosomes into the cytoplasm, which triggers the host’s cytoplasmic sensing pathway STING/TBK1, inhibiting autophagy and upregulating IFNβ transcription, which contributes to the survival of mycobacterium in the host cell. We also found that Rv2347c was able to activate host immunity by activating NF-κB via STING and promoting the transcription of downstream pro-inflammatory factors. Meanwhile, the host also produces IL-1β to repair phagosome maturation arrest via the STING-mediated non-NF-κB pathway.

Abstract Hemibagrus guttatus, also named as spotted longbarbel catfish, is an economical fish in China. However, their gender cannot be easily distinguished from their appearance, which largely impedes their artificial breeding. Therefore, we provided two gap-free chromosome-level genomes of male and female spotted longbarbel catfish by combining wtdbg2, LR_Gapcloser and TGS-GapCloser assembly approaches with Hi-C data and accurate Pacbio HiFi long-reads. We assembled 30 chromosomes without any gap. Their genome sizes are approximately 749.1 Mb and 747.8 Mb of male and female individuals. The completeness results of BUSCO evaluation show about 94.2% and 95.0%, representing a high-level of completeness of both genomes. We also obtained 35,277 and 34,571 protein-coding gene sets from male and female individuals. Both available gap-free chromosome-level genomes of H. guttatus will provide excellent references for resequencing of male and female individuals to identify accurate markers for distinguishing gender of this fish.

Abstract Photocatalysis through energy transfer has been investigated for the facilitation of [4 + 2] cycloaddition reactions. However, the high reactivity of radical species poses a challenging obstacle to achieving enantiocontrol with chiral catalysts, as no enantioselective examples have been reported thus far. Here, we present the development of catalytic asymmetric [4 + 2] dearomative photocycloaddition involving anthracene and its derivatives with alkenylazaarenes. This accomplishment is achieved by utilizing a cooperative photosensitizer and chiral Brønsted acid catalysis platform. Importantly, this process enables the activation of anthracene substrates through energy transfer from triplet DPZ, thereby initiating a precise and stereoselective sequential transformation. The significance of our work is highlighted by the synthesis of a diverse range of pharmaceutical valuable cycloadducts incorporating attractive azaarenes, all obtained with high yields, ees, and drs. The broad substrate scope is further underscored by successful construction of all-carbon quaternary stereocenters and diverse adjacent stereocenters.

Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, a significant respiratory pig pathogen, is causing substantial losses in the global swine industry. The resistance spectrum of A. pleuropneumoniae is expanding, and multidrug resistance is a severe issue. Horizontal gene transfer (HGT) plays a crucial role in the development of the bacterial genome by facilitating the dissemination of resistance determinants. However, the horizontal transfer of resistance genes via A. pleuropneumoniae-derived outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) has not been previously reported. In this study, we used Illumina NovaSeq and PacBio SequeI sequencing platforms to determine the whole genome sequence of A. pleuropneumoniae GD2107, a multidrug-resistant (MDR) isolate from China. We detected a plasmid in the isolate named pGD2107-1; the plasmid was 5,027 bp in size with 7 putative open reading frames (ORF) and included the floR resistance genes. The carriage of resistance genes in A. pleuropneumoniae OMVs was identified using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay, and then we thoroughly evaluated the influence of OMVs on the horizontal transfer of drug-resistant plasmids. The transfer of the plasmid to recipient bacteria via OMVs was confirmed by PCR. In growth competition experiments, all recipients carrying the pGD2107-1 plasmid exhibited a fitness cost compared to the corresponding original recipients. This study revealed that OMVs could mediate interspecific horizontal transfer of the resistance plasmid pGD2107-1 into Escherichia coli recipient strains and significantly enhance the resistance of the transformants. In summary, A. pleuropneumoniae-OMVs play the pivotal role of vectors for dissemination of the floR gene spread and may contribute to more antimicrobial resistance gene transfer in other Enterobacteriaceae.

Large specific surface area obtained by pyrolyzed biomass is considered as a vital factor in improving the dye adsorption performance. However, pyrolysis would cause the inevitable destruction of the surface functional groups of biomass. Herein, a biomass adsorbent based on sargassum fusiforme without pyrolysis was employed for the removal of methylene blue (MB). Combining the FTIR, XPS, SEM, and BET analysis, sargassum fusiforme bio-adsorbent (SFBA) was found to have low specific surface area whereas rich functional groups, including carboxyl, carbonyl and hydroxyl groups. SFBA presented high adsorption performance towards MB with a maximum adsorption capacity of 1154.05 mg/g, demonstrating that the high adsorption performance could be achieved by abundant functional groups rather than large specific surface area. In this paper, various adsorption parameters including pH, concentration, contact time, and temperature have also been discussed. The results indicated that the kinetic and isotherm models of SFBA followed the pseudo-secondary kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model, respectively. The negative thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption process is spontaneous and exothermic. The SFBA enriched with functional groups exhibited high adsorption performance as well as simple fabrication, and abundant sources that could provide a novel alternative for the treatment of dye wastewater.

Abstract Purpose This study investigated and compared the effects of Gd enhancement on brain tumours with a half-dose of contrast medium at 5.0 T and with a full dose at 3.0 T. Methods Twelve subjects diagnosed with brain tumours were included in this study and underwent MRI after contrast agent injection at 3.0 T (full dose) or 5.0 T (half dose) with a 3D T1-weighted gradient echo sequence. The postcontrast images were compared by two independent neuroradiologists in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and subjective image quality score on a ten-point Likert scale. Quantitative indices and subjective quality ratings were compared with paired Student's t tests, and interreader agreement was assessed with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). 【Objective】The study was carried out to understand the genetic evolution of Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) strains on a swine farm in Guangdong Province, and enrich molecular epidemiological data of PCV2, in order to provide reference for the selection and development of local PCV2 vaccine candidate strains.【Method】Samples suspected of PCV2 infection were detected by using qPCR methods. A PCV2-positive isolate with a high viral load was found, named GD222858. Genome-wide molecular cloning and genetic evolution analysis were performed with PCR methods. MegAlign software was used to compare the amino acid sequences encoded by the ORF1 and ORF2 genes of the strain with the PCV2 isotype reference strain, and the similarity of the amino acid sequences was analyzed. The DNAStar was used to predicte the Cap protein secondary structure and B-cell epitope of this strain and compare it with the Cap protein antigen index of four vaccine strains DBN-SX07-2 (HM641752), LG (HM038034), SH (HM038027) and ZJ (AY686764).【Result】Sequencing results showed that the genome length of GD222858 strain was 1 767 bp. The genetic evolution analysis indicated that the strain belonged to the PCV2d subtype. The nucleotide similarity with 82 reference strains at home and abroad ranged from 91.4% to 99.6%. It was closest to the Vietnamese strain Han8 (GenBank accession No.: JQ181600). Multiple specific mutation sites F70Y, F77L, W202R and N256S were found at the Rep protein encoded by ORF1. The Cap protein encoded by ORF2 was relatively conserved. Protean predicted that the potential B cell epitopes presented at amino acid positions 5-18, 24-25, 39-41, 48-49, 57-65, 99, 101, 112-114, 139-140, 145-150, 162-165, 175-181, 188-189, 205-211 and 227-232 of Cap proteins. The Cap protein antigen index of the GD222858 strain was different from that of the four vaccine strains, and the antigen index at the amino acids 45-57, 124-132 and 223-233 was significantly higher than that of the other four vaccine strains, and the difference with the LG vaccine strain (HM038034) was greatest.【Conclusion】The reason for the infection of GD222858 strain in pig herds may be due to specific mutations in multiple sites of the Rep protein and improper selection of vaccine strains.

Abstract Background Resolving the phylogeny of rapidly radiating lineages presents a challenge when building the Tree of Life. An Old World avian family Prunellidae (Accentors) comprises twelve species that rapidly diversified at the Pliocene–Pleistocene boundary. Results Here we investigate the phylogenetic relationships of all species of Prunellidae using a chromosome-level de novo assembly of Prunella strophiata and 36 high-coverage resequenced genomes. We use homologous alignments of thousands of exonic and intronic loci to build the coalescent and concatenated phylogenies and recover four different species trees. Topology tests show a large degree of gene tree-species tree discordance but only 40–54% of intronic gene trees and 36–75% of exonic genic trees can be explained by incomplete lineage sorting and gene tree estimation errors. Estimated branch lengths for three successive internal branches in the inferred species trees suggest the existence of an empirical anomaly zone. The most common topology recovered for species in this anomaly zone was not similar to any coalescent or concatenated inference phylogenies, suggesting presence of anomalous gene trees. However, this interpretation is complicated by the presence of gene flow because extensive introgression was detected among these species. When exploring tree topology distributions, introgression, and regional variation in recombination rate, we find that many autosomal regions contain signatures of introgression and thus may mislead phylogenetic inference. Conversely, the phylogenetic signal is concentrated to regions with low-recombination rate, such as the Z chromosome, which are also more resistant to interspecific introgression. Conclusions Collectively, our results suggest that phylogenomic inference should consider the underlying genomic architecture to maximize the consistency of phylogenomic signal.

Humanoid robots are typically designed for static environments, but real-world applications demand robust performance under dynamic, uncertain conditions. This paper introduces a perceptive motion planning and control algorithm that enables humanoid robots to navigate and operate effectively in environments with unpredictable kinematic and dynamic disturbances. The proposed algorithm ensures synchronized multi-limb motion while maintaining dynamic balance, utilizing real-time feedback from force, torque, and inertia sensors. Experimental results demonstrate the algorithm’s adaptability and robustness in handling complex tasks, including walking on uneven terrain and responding to external disturbances. These findings highlight the potential of perceptive motion planning in enhancing the versatility and resilience of humanoid robots in uncertain environments. The results have potential applications in search-and-rescue missions, healthcare robotics, and industrial automation, where robots operate in unpredictable or dynamic conditions.

AbstractDiscogobio brachyphysallidos Huang 1989 is a Cyprinidae fish species that is endemic to the upper Pearl River. In the present study, the complete mitochondrial genome of D. brachyphysallidos collected from the Nanpanjiang River was sequenced and annotated. The mitochondrial genome encompassed 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, and the control region (D-loop). The total length of the mitochondrial genome was determined to be 16,594 base pairs (bp), with a GC content of 41.7%. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that D. brachyphysallidos may be a sister to D. longibarbatus and D. macrophysallidos. These findings provide insight into the genetic information and phylogenetic relationships of D. brachyphysallidos.

Pumped-storage power stations (PSPSs) have higher requirements for anti-seepage compared with regular power stations. As a result, investigating the seepage distributions of PSPSs is particularly important. However, existing researches remain limited in assessing engineering needs such as ensuring the efficiency of a power station. Taking the Qingyuan PSPS as a typical case, this study aims to investigate the large-scale seepage field distribution while exploring the efficiency of the anti-seepage system. Considering the geological characteristics and structural location, a 3D finite element model is established. Based on the continuous medium model while combined with seepage control measures, the change in leakage while the anti-seepage system failed is further assessed. It is concluded that the operation status of anti-seepage measures will have a certain impact on the leakage volumes of each part. Using a comprehensive assessment, anti-seepage measures can effectively prevent seepage. When failure occurs on anti-seepage curtains, the leakage volume at the corresponding position will show an obvious growth. In summary, the findings of this study highlight the significance of avoiding excessive leakage caused by anti-seepage structure failure, the effective operation of anti-seepage measures must be ensured. The abovementioned results can provide scientific support for the seepage optimization design of PSPSs. Sonar sound datasets are of significant importance in the domains of underwater surveillance and marine research as they enable experts to discern intricate patterns within the depths of the water. Nevertheless, the task of classifying sonar sound datasets continues to pose significant challenges. In this study, we present a novel approach aimed at enhancing the precision and efficacy of sonar sound dataset classification. The integration of deep long-short-term memory (DLSTM) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) models is employed in order to capitalize on their respective advantages while also utilizing distinctive feature engineering techniques to achieve the most favorable outcomes. Although DLSTM networks have demonstrated effectiveness in tasks involving sequence classification, attaining their optimal performance necessitates careful adjustment of hyperparameters. While traditional methods such as grid and random search are effective, they frequently encounter challenges related to computational inefficiencies. This study aims to investigate the unexplored capabilities of the fuzzy slime mould optimizer (FUZ-SMO) in the context of LSTM hyperparameter tuning, with the objective of addressing the existing research gap in this area. Drawing inspiration from the adaptive behavior exhibited by slime moulds, the FUZ-SMO proposes a novel approach to optimization. The amalgamated model, which combines CNN, LSTM, fuzzy, and SMO, exhibits a notable improvement in classification accuracy, outperforming conventional LSTM architectures by a margin of 2.142%. This model not only demonstrates accelerated convergence milestones but also displays significant resilience against overfitting tendencies.

Abstract An unprecedented enantioselective protonation reaction enabled by photoredox catalytic radical coupling is developed. Under cooperative dicynopyrazine‐derived chromophore (DPZ) as a photosensitizer and a chiral phosphoric acid catalyst, and Hantzsch ester as a sacrificial reductant, the transformations between α‐substituted enones and cyanoazaarenes or 2‐(chloromethyl)azaaren‐1‐iums can proceed a tandem reduction, radical coupling, and enantioselective protonation process efficiently. Two classes of pharmaceutically important enantioenriched azaarene variants, which contain a synthetically versatile ketone‐substituted tertiary carbon stereocenter at the β‐ or γ‐position of the azaarenes, are synthesized with high yields and ees.

The improved synthesis of [L1.sub.0] FePt nanoparticles is reported using different iron precursors and the easy-axis alignment of these nanoparticles. The reflux temperature of the mixture solutions ranged from 330 to 360 degree Celsius, where disordered FePt particles could be partially transformed into the ordered [L1.sub.0] phase.

Abstract To explore the stability and repeatability of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) of normal pancreas with different field of views (FOV) on 5.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. Twenty healthy subjects underwent two sessions of large FOV (lFOV) and reduced FOV (rFOV) DWI sequence scanning. Two radiologists measured the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the pancreatic head, body, and tail on DWI images, simultaneously, using a 5-point scale, evaluate the artifacts and image quality. One radiologist re-measured the ADC on DWI images again after a 4-week interval. The test-retest repeatability of two scan sessions were also evaluated. Electrohydrodynamic processing technology, as an innovative non-thermal processing technology, is gradually applied in food science and technology field with the assistance of future food industry development. This article reviews principle, classification, accessible factors, biological materials and application, summarizes and discusses future developments in food field of electrohydrodynamic processing technology. Electrohydrodynamic processing technology consistes of electrospinning and electrospraying techniques, and could produce complex function micron/nano fibrosome or particle, which may be adopted in microencapsulation of food functional components, immobilized enzyme, biosensor, active food packaging, assistant technique of food 3D printing developments. Future work should be carried out in increasing yield of fibrosome/particle, decreasing solvent residual toxicity and integrating 3D printing for future food industry development.

The culture of mandarin fish using artificial feed has been gaining increasing attention in China. Ensuring good water quality in the ponds is crucial for successful aquaculture. Recently, the trial of pond-based rice floating beds (PRFBs) in aquaculture ponds has shown promising results. This research assessed the impact of PRFBs on the microbial community structure and overall quality of the aquaculture pond, thereby enhancing our understanding of its functions. The results revealed that the PRFB group exhibited lower levels of NH4+-N, NO2−-N, NO3−-N, TN, TP, and Alk in pond water compared to the control group. The microbial diversity indices in the PRFB group showed a declining trend, while these indices were increasing in the control group. At the phylum level, there was a considerable increase in Proteobacteria abundance in the PRFB group throughout the culture period, suggesting that PRFBs may promote the proliferation of Proteobacteria. In the PRFB group, there was a remarkable decrease in bacterial populations related to carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus metabolism, including genera Rhodobacter, Rhizorhapis, Dinghuibacter, Candidatus Aquiluna, and Chryseomicrobium as well as the CL500_29_marine_group. Overall, the research findings will provide a basis for the application of aquaculture of mandarin fish fed an artificial diet and rice floating beds.

Abstract The structural properties of octahedral sites (BOh) in spinel oxides (AB2O4) play vital roles in the electrochemical performance of oxygen‐related reactions. However, the precise manipulation of AB2O4 remains challenging due to the complexity of their crystal structure. Here, a simple and versatile molten‐salt‐mediated strategy is reported to introduce Ni2+ in Boh sites intentionally on the surface of zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4, ZFO) to promote the active sites for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. The as‐created photoanode (ZFO‐MSNi) shows a remarkable cathodic shift of ≈ 450 mV (turn‐on voltage of ≈ 0.6 VRHE) as well as three times the 1‐sun photocurrent density at 1.23 VRHE for PEC water oxidation in comparison with bare ZFO. A comprehensive structural characterization clearly reveals the local structure of the introduced Ni2+ in ZFO‐MSNi. The microstructure, magnetic properties and easy axis alignment of chemically ordering FePt nanoparticles are studied. The results have shown the c-axis alignment for a monolayer of [L1.sub.0] FePt particles and the intensity of (200) electron diffraction (ED) has clearly shown twofold symmetry.

Fish pond rice planting is an agricultural production activity that uses aquaculture ponds to grow rice. The development of fish pond rice planting technology can keep the aquaculture area, expand the rice planting area, improve food security, and reduce pollution from aquaculture tail water. In the early season of 2022, we conducted a fish pond rice planting experiment in Guangzhou and achieved initial success. The tested rice varieties were Yuetai Youzhan, Huangguang Youzhan, Meixiangzhan No. 2, Taifengyou 208, Guanghong No. 3, Yuexiang 430, Yuenong Simiao, Wushan Simiao, and Nanjing Xiangzhan. The aquaculture varieties were largemouth black bass, Australian freshwater lobster, crucian carp and yellow catfish. The results showed that there was significant difference in grain yield among tested rice varieties under fish pond cultivation and the difference was much greater than that under field cultivation. The yield of Yuexiang 430 was the highest, reaching 390.8 kg/667m2, which was 148.6% higher than that of Taifengyou 208. The four aquaculture varieties all performed well, with high survival rate and fast growth speed, among which the Australian freshwater lobster performed the best. At present, there are still some critical problems such as high cost, lack of technical standards and lagging behind in basic research in fish pond rice planting. Coordinated efforts should be made to enhance low-cost floating bed development, improve rice and fishery matching, screen out more rice varieties, optimize fertilizer management and pest control, manufacture or adapt supporting machinery and equipment, and strengthen relevant theoretical researches. Finally, the green, high-yield and high-efficiency fish pond rice planting procedures and standards should be established through technical integration. With the deepening of research and the maturing of technologies, the fish pond rice planting technology will make increasing contributions to food security, farmers' income increase, environmental protection and beautiful countryside construction in China, especially in the southern regions.

A new and simple method based on a hydrothermal process and an ion-exchange reaction is proposed to synthesize well-defined CdSn[O.sub.3].3[H.sub.2]O nanocubes at high yields. The cube shape of CdSn[O.sub.3].3[H.sub.2]O is sustained even after thermal decomposition to CdSn[O.sub.3].

The ordering and sintering behavior of spin-coated FePt and FePtAu nanoparticles are studied by using small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), small-angle X-ray diffraction and magnetometry. The annealing of the nanoparticles is found destroy their assemblies through agglomeration and sintering based on SANS and magnetic measurements.

A direct synthesis of partially ordered 8-nm FePt nanoparticles is presented with the help of thermal decomposition of Fe(CO)5 and Pt(acac)2 in the high boiling point solvent hexadeclyamine (HDA). The findings indicate that the partially ordered FePt nanoparticles can be aligned under magnetic field.

The chemical ordering of FePt and FePt Au nanoparticles arrays are studied as a function of particle size. The findings indicate that larger nanoparticles have a higher anisotropy and higher chemical ordering than the smaller FePt nanoparticles after annealing.

The FePd and FePdPt nanoparticles are synthesized by the simultaneous chemical reduction of palladium acetylacetonate and iron chloride. The coercivity of Fe50PdxPt(sub 50-x) nanoparticles increases to more than 10 kOe with annealing temperature up to 650 degree C while the coercivity of Fe50PdxPt(sub 50-x) nanoparticles declines due to increasing Pd content.
