Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is an aggravating risk factor of COPD exacerbation. Animal evidence showed PM2.5accelerated lung inflammation and oxidative stress in COPD mice, but the mechanism is still not clear. Recently, we found that miR-194-3p is a novel biomarker of both COPD and PM2.5 exposure, and miR-194 family has been reported to be involved in cell proliferation and apoptosis. Thus, we propose a hypothesis: PM2.5 can accelerate apoptotic response of airway epithelial cells in COPD and miR-194 is a potential involved regulator. Materials and methods: Human bronchial epithelial cells (HBEpiCs) were treated with normal media, cigarette smoke solution (CSS) and PM2.5-CSS for 24 h. miR-194-3p mimics, inhibitors and scrambled controls were non-transfected or pre-transfected into HBEpiCs for 48 h. MircroRNAs and mRNA expression were quantified by qRT-PCR. Protein expression was analyzed by western blotting. Caspase activities, mitochondrial membrane potential and TUNEL-positive cells were detected to analyze apoptosis. Bioinformatics and luciferase analysis were used to identify the predicted binding site of miR-194-3p and potential targets. Results: In our study, we found that PM2.5 significantly aggravated apoptosis in cigarette-inflamed HBEpiCs. miR-194-3p was dramatically downregulated in PM2.5-CSS-treated HBEpiCs. Bioinformatics and luciferase experiments reported that death-associated protein kinase 1 (DAPK1), regulating caspase 3 activities in apoptosis, was directly targeted by miR-194-3p. Inhibition of miR-194-3p increased DAPK1 expression and apoptosis in normal HBEpiCs. Importantly, overexpression of miR-194-3p suppressed apoptosis in PM2.5-CSS HBEpiCs. Conclusion: These results suggested that miR-194-3p was a protective regulator involved in apoptosis pathway and a potential therapeutic target for treatment of bronchial epithelial injury aggravation induced by PM2.5. Falls among older adults present a major public health challenge, causing significant physical, psychological, and economic consequences. Exercise interventions are a proven strategy to reduce fall risk by targeting biomechanical, physiological, and psychological factors. This review examines evidence from 155 studies published between 2004 and 2024, including systematic reviews, meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and cohort studies. Data were rigorously screened and extracted using predefined criteria, with studies sourced from PubMed, MEDLINE, EBSCO (EDS), and additional gray literature identified via Google Scholar. Key findings show that balance and strength training improves postural control, gait stability, and neuromuscular coordination, while resistance training mitigates sarcopenia and enhances joint mobility. Cognitive exercises enhance attention, spatial awareness, decision-making, and psychological benefits like reduced fear of falling and greater social engagement. Multidisciplinary approaches integrating physical, cognitive, and social components deliver the most significant impact. This review underscores the value of evidence-based exercise programs in promoting active aging and enhancing the quality of life for older adults.

The Rhizobium rhizogene-transformed root culture from Physalis peruviana L. (P. peruviana) may be a promising and novel source of valuable phenolics, including caffeoylputrescine (CP), which is known for antioxidant, antidiabetic, insect-resistant, disease-resistant, and neuroprotective properties. In this study, to improve the production efficiency of phytochemical components in P. peruviana hairy root cultures, we optimized various culture conditions, including the inoculum size, liquid volume, culture media type, carbon source, sucrose concentration, initial pH, and application of elicitors, to enhance the total phenolic content and CP yield in these hairy root cultures. The findings indicate that the use of sucrose as carbon source resulted in the highest biomass (13.28 g DW/L), total phenolic content (6.26 mg/g), and CP yield (2.40 mg/L). The White medium excelled in enhancing the total phenolic content (9.35 mg/g), whereas the B5 medium was most effective for the biomass (13.38 g DW/L) and CP yield (6.30 mg/L). A sucrose concentration of 5% was best for the biomass (18.40 g DW/L), whereas a sucrose concentration of 4% was ideal for the CP yield. Optimal culture conditions were as follows: an inoculum size of 0.5 g/100 mL, a liquid volume of 100 mL in a 250-mL flask, B5 medium, 4% sucrose, and a pH of 5.5. Among the tested elicitors, methyl jasmonate (MeJA) at 100 µM significantly increased the biomass (21.3 g/L), total phenolic content (23.34 mg/g), and CP yield (141.10 mg/L), which represent 0.96-, 2.12-, and 13.04-fold increases, respectively, over the control after 8 days. This study focuses on the development and evaluation of soft sensor models for predicting NH 3 -N values in a wastewater treatment process. The study compares the performance of linear regression (LR), neural networks (NN) and random forest regression (RFR) models. The proposed methodology involves optimizing the sequencing batch reactor process using artificial intelligence and an automatic control system. Real-time NH 3 -N values are obtained by inputting data from electronic conductivity and temperature sensors into the prediction models. Once the predicted NH 3 -N value falls below the effluent standard, the cycle ends, improving energy efficiency and sustainability by cutting down the agitator and aerator. The research results demonstrate that the RNN-based NH 3 -N soft sensor built in this study exhibits the best performance, which is promising for wastewater treatment process optimization and evaluation. The results show that sensor model NNR [0.5Y]H exhibits exceptional performance, utilizing recurrent neural network with 5-step input delays. Sensor NN R[0.5Y]H exhibits an R 2 of 0.921, an RMSE of 6.110, and an MAE of 4.558. Based on the findings, recurrent neural network (RNN) variants emerge as the most effective modeling technique due to their ability to capture temporal dependencies and handle variable-length sequences. This study provides satisfied performance results for the NNR [0.5Y]H soft sensor model in NH 3 -N monitoring and process optimization in wastewater treatment, highlighting the effectiveness of recurrent neural networks and their contribution to improving interpretability, accuracy, and adaptability of soft sensor models.

Current studies on facial growth and development have been largely based on European populations. Less studied are African populations, who because of their distinct genetic makeup and environmental conditions, provide deeper insights into patterns of facial development. Patterns of facial shape development in African populations remain largely uncharacterised. Our study aimed to establish facial growth and development trajectories based on a cohort of 2874 Bantu Africans from Tanzania aged 6-18 years, with particular focus on identifying morphogenetic processes that lead to observed developmental shape changes. Procrustes ANCOVA suggested sexually dimorphic patterns of facial shape development (p = 0.0036). The forehead was relatively contracted during development in both sexes. The glabella region was more anteriorly displaced in females due to expansion in the region laterosuperior to the eyes. Nasal protrusion increased with development, which was found to arise from local expansion in the nasal alae and columella. Local expansion in the upper and lower labial regions resulted in forward displaced lips in both sexes, with the effect more pronounced in males. The mentum was displaced more anteriorly in females due to comparatively more expanded mental regions with development. The lateral facial region corresponding to the underlying body of the mandible were developmentally expanded but were posteriorly positioned due to protrusive growth of surrounding structures. Generalised additive modelling of Procrustes variance suggested that facial variation decreased non-linearly with age (p < 0.05). Relative principal component analysis suggested that variations in facial outline shape were developmentally constrained, whereas nasolabial and mental regions, where developmental changes were significant, became morphologically diversified with development. In contrast to simple descriptive illustration of facial shape development, we gained transformative insights into patterns of facial shape development by analysing morphogenetic processes and variational properties. Glutamate dehydrogenase 1 (GLUD1) is implicated in oncogenesis. However, little is known about the relationship between GLUD1 and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the present study, we demonstrated that the expression levels of GLUD1 significantly decreased in tumors, which was relevant to the poor prognosis of HCC. Functionally, GLUD1 silencing enhanced the growth and migration of HCC cells. Mechanistically, the upregulation of interleukin-32 through AKT activation contributes to GLUD1 silencing-facilitated hepatocarcinogenesis. The interaction between GLUD1 and AKT, as well as α-ketoglutarate regulated by GLUD1, can suppress AKT activation. In addition, LIM and SH3 protein 1 (LASP1) interacts with GLUD1 and induces GLUD1 degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, which relies on the E3 ubiquitin ligase synoviolin (SYVN1), whose interaction with GLUD1 is enhanced by LASP1. In hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC, the HBV X protein (HBX) can suppress GLUD1 with the participation of LASP1 and SYVN1. Objective: Ferroptosis represents a form of regulated cellular death dependent upon iron and lipid peroxidation derivatives, holding considerable implications for cerebral and neurologic pathologies. In the present study, we endeavored to elucidate the molecular mechanisms governing ferroptosis and appraise the therapeutic value of electrical stimulation of median nerve in addressing cognitive impairments following traumatic brain injury (TBI), employing a rodent model., Methods: In this study, we established a rat model to investigate the cognitive impairments resulting from TBI, followed by the application of median nerve stimulation (MNS). Initially, rats received an intraperitoneal injection of Erastin (2 mg/kg) prior to undergoing MNS. After 24 h of MNS treatment, the rats were subjected to an open field test to evaluate their cognitive and motor functions. Subsequently, we conducted biochemical assays to measure the serum levels of GSH, MDA and SOD. The structural integrity and cellular morphology of hippocampal tissue were examined through H&E staining, Nissl staining and transmission electron microscopy. Additionally, we assessed the expression levels of proteins crucial for neuronal health and function in the hippocampus, including VEGF, SLC7A11, GPX4, Nrf2, α-syn, NEUN and PSD95., Results: Compared to the control group, rats in the stimulation group demonstrated enhanced mobility, reduced levels of tissue damage, a decrease in MDA concentration, and increased levels of GSH and SOD. Additionally, there was a significant upregulation in the expression of proteins critical for cellular defense and neuronal health, including GPX4, SLC7A11, Nrf2, VEGF, α-syn, NEUN, and PSD95 proteins. Conversely, rats in the Erastin group demonstrated decreased mobility, exacerbated pathological tissue damage, elevated MDA concentration, and decreased levels of GSH and SOD. There was also a notable decrease in the expression of GPX4, SLC7CA11, Nrf2, and VEGF proteins. The expression levels of α-syn, NEUN, and PSD95 were similarly diminished in the Erastin group. Each of these findings was statistically significant, indicating that MNS exerts neuroprotective effect in the hippocampal tissue of rats with TBI by inhibiting the ferroptosis pathway., Conclusion: (1) MNS may enhance the cognitive and behavioral performance of rats after TBI; (2) MNS can play a neuroprotective role by promoting the expression of nerve injury-related proteins, alleviating oxidative stress and ferroptosis process; (3) MNS may inhibit ferroptosis of neuronal cells by activating Nrf2/ GPX4 signaling pathway, thereby improving cognitive impairment in TBI rats., (Copyright © 2024 The Authors. Fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) harms human health and hinders normal human life. Considering the serious complexity and obvious regional characteristics of PM 2.5 pollution, it is urgent to fill in the comprehensive overview of regional characteristics and interannual evolution of PM 2.5 . This review studied the PM 2.5 pollution in six typical areas between 2014 and 2022 based on the data published by the Chinese government and nearly 120 relevant literature. We analyzed and compared the characteristics of interannual and quarterly changes of PM 2.5 concentration. The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region (BTH), Yangtze River Delta (YRD) and Pearl River Delta (PRD) made remarkable progress in improving PM 2.5 pollution, while Fenwei Plain (FWP), Sichuan Basin (SCB) and Northeast Plain (NEP) were slightly inferior mainly due to the relatively lower level of economic development. It was found that the annual average PM 2.5 concentration change versus year curves in the three areas with better pollution control conditions can be merged into a smooth curve. Importantly, this can be fitted for the accurate evaluation of each area and provide reliable prediction of its future evolution. In addition, we analyzed the factors affecting the PM 2.5 in each area and summarize the causes of air pollution in China. They included primary emission, secondary generation, regional transmission, as well as unfavorable air dispersion conditions. We also suggested that the PM 2.5 pollution control should target specific industries and periods, and further research need to be carried out on the process of secondary production. Background: Human lysozyme (hLYZ) is a natural antibacterial protein with broad applications in food and pharmaceutical industries. Recombinant production of hLYZ in Komagataella phaffii (K. phaffii) has attracted considerable attention, but there are very limited strategies for its hyper-production in yeast., Results: Here through Atmospheric and Room Temperature Plasma (ARTP)-based mutagenesis and transcriptomic analysis, the expression of two genes MYO1 and IQG1 encoding the cytokinesis core proteins was identified downregulated along with higher hLYZ production. Deletion of either gene caused severe cytokinesis defects, but significantly enhanced hLYZ production. The highest hLYZ yield of 1,052,444 ± 23,667 U/mL bioactivity and 4.12 ± 0.11 g/L total protein concentration were obtained after high-density fed-batch fermentation in the Δmyo1 mutant, representing the best production of hLYZ in yeast. Patients suffering from sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI) exhibit a high mortality rate, and their prognosis is closely associated with infiltration of neutrophils into the lungs. In this study, we found a significant elevation of CD64 + neutrophils, which highly expressed p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75 NTR ) in peripheral blood of mice and patients with sepsis-induced ALI. p75 NTR+ CD64 + neutrophils were also abundantly expressed in the lung of ALI mice induced by lipopolysaccharide. Conditional knock-out of the myeloid lineage's p75 NTR gene improved the survival rates, attenuated lung tissue inflammation, reduced neutrophil infiltration and enhanced the phagocytic functions of CD64 + neutrophils. In vitro, p75 NTR+ CD64 + neutrophils exhibited an upregulation and compromised phagocytic activity in blood samples of ALI patients. Blocking p75 NTR activity by soluble p75 NTR extracellular domain peptide (p75 ECD -Fc) boosted CD64 + neutrophils phagocytic activity and reduced inflammatory cytokine production via regulation of the NF-κB activity. Background: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a highly malignant neoplasm and characterized by desmoplastic matrix. The heterogeneity and crosstalk of tumor microenvironment remain incompletely understood., Methods: To address this gap, we performed Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) to identify and construct a cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) infiltration biomarker. We also depicted the intercellular communication network and important receptor-ligand complexes using the single-cell transcriptomics analysis of tumor and Adjacent normal tissue., Results: Through the intersection of TCGA DEGs and WGCNA module genes, 784 differential genes related to CAFs infiltration were obtained. After a series of regression analyses, the CAFs score was generated by integrating the expressions of EVA1A, APBA2, LRRTM4, GOLGA8M, BPIFB2, and their corresponding coefficients. In the TCGA-CHOL, GSE89748, and 107,943 cohorts, the high CAFs score group showed unfavorable survival prognosis (p < 0.001, p = 0.0074, p = 0.028, respectively). Additionally, a series of drugs have been predicted to be more sensitive to the high-risk group (p < 0.05). Subsequent to dimension reduction and clustering, thirteen clusters were identified to construct the single-cell atlas. Cell-cell interaction analysis unveiled significant enhancement of signal transduction in tumor tissues, particularly from fibroblasts to malignant cells via diverse pathways. Moreover, SCENIC analysis indicated that HOXA5, WT1, and LHX2 are fibroblast specific motifs., Conclusions: This study reveals the key role of fibroblasts - oncocytes interaction in the remodeling of the immunosuppressive microenvironment in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Subsequently, it may trigger cascade activation of downstream signaling pathways such as PI3K-AKT and Notch in tumor, thus initiating tumorigenesis. Zanthoxylum nitidum is frequently used as a traditional Chinese medicine and food supplement. Our previous study revealed that its constituent compounds were able to inhibit cancer cell proliferation. In our continuous exploration of bioactive compounds in Z. nitidum , we isolated ten alkaloids ( 1 - 10 ), including one new natural compound ( 1 ), and nine known alkaloids ( 2-10 ), from an ethanolic extract of the whole plant. The chemical structures were elucidated based on a combination of comprehensive NMR and HRESIMS analyses. Compounds 5, 8 and 10 exhibited significant antiproliferative effects against A549 cancer cell lines. We further elucidated the underlying molecular mechanisms of the antiproliferative activity of compound 8 in A549 human lung cancer cells. Compound 8 was found to induce cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase via p53 activation and CDK4/6 suppression. Compound 8 also effectively inhibited cell migration through the modulation of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), as indicated by the expression of biomarkers, such as N-cadherin downregulation and E-cadherin upregulation. Compound 8 significantly suppressed the activation of the EGFR/AKT/mTOR signalling pathway in A549 cells. These results indicate that alkaloid 8 from Z. nitidum has potential to be a lead antiproliferative compound in cancer cells.

This article designs and implements a fast and high-precision multi-robot environment modeling method based on bidirectional filtering and scene identification. To solve the problem of feature tracking failure caused by large angle rotation, a bidirectional filtering mechanism is introduced to improve the error-matching elimination algorithm. A global key frame database for multiple robots is proposed based on a pretraining dictionary to convert images into a bag of words vectors. The images captured by different sub-robots are compared with the database for similarity score calculation, so as to realize fast identification and search of similar scenes. The coordinate transformation from local map to global map and the cooperative SLAM exploration of multiple robots is completed by the best matching image and the transformation matrix. Cities in Northeast China, e.g., Harbin, were brought to the forefront of air pollution control by a national-level policy promulgated in 2021, i.e., the Circular on Further Promoting the Pollution Prevention and Control Battle (the FP 3 CB Circular) which aimed at eliminating heavy or severe air pollution events. In this study, we explored the response of Harbin aerosol to the FP 3 CB Circular, based on observational results from two campaigns conducted during 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. A clear decreasing trend was identified for the impact of domestic biomass burning between the two winters, presumably driven by the clean heating actions. The 2021-2022 winter was also characterized by reduced formation of secondary organic aerosol but enhanced production of nitrate, which could be attributed to the less humid conditions but higher temperatures, respectively, compared to the 2020-2021 winter. The overall effect of these changes was a decrease in the contribution of organic species to wintertime aerosol in Harbin. Purpose: As a vital component of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) nucleocapsid, HBV core protein (HBC) contributes to hepatocarcinogenesis. Here, we aimed to assess the effects of RANGAP1 and KDM2A on tumorigenesis induced by HBC., Methods: Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) combined with mass spectrometry were utilized to identify the proteins with the capacity to interact with HBC. The gene and protein levels of RANGAP1 and KDM2A in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and HBV-positive HCC tissues were evaluated using different cohorts. The roles of RANGAP1 and KDM2A in HCC cells mediated by HBC were investigated in vitro and in vivo. Co-IP and western blot were used to estimate the interaction of HBC with RANGAP1 and KDM2A and assess RANGAP1 stabilization regulated by HBC., Results: We discovered that HBC could interact with RANGAP1 and KDM2A, the levels of which were markedly elevated in HCC tissues. Relying on RANGAP1 and KDM2A, HBC facilitated HCC cell growth and migration. The increased stabilization of RANGAP1 mediated by HBC was relevant to the disruption of the interaction between RANGAP1 and an E3 ligase SYVN1. RANGAP1 interacted with KDM2A, and it further promoted KDM2A stabilization by disturbing the interaction between KDM2A and SYVN1. HBC enhanced the interaction of KDM2A with RANGAP1 and upregulated the expression of KDM2A via RANGAP1 in HCC cells., Conclusions: These findings demonstrate a novel mechanism by which HBC facilitates hepatocarcinogenesis. The construction of 3,4-dihydroquinolone derivatives has attracted a considerable amount of attention due to their extensive applications in medicinal chemistry. In this study, we present the Pd-catalyzed [4+2] cycloaddition of vinyl benzoxazinanones with α-alkylidene succinimides for the efficient synthesis of 3,4-dihydroquinolones. This approach presents numerous advantages, including the ready availability of starting materials, mild reaction conditions without the use of additional bases, and a wide range of substrates. In particular, all of the desired products can be easily afforded in high yields (≤99%) and excellent diastereoselectivities (>20:1). The practicality and reliability of this strategy were demonstrated by the successful scale-up synthesis and subsequent straightforward synthetic transformations.

Developmental changes of facial shape are commonly investigated through geometric morphometrics. A limitation with this approach is the inability to investigate patterns of morphological changes at local scale. This could be addressed through quantifying the deformation required to deform one shape to another. This study aimed to investigate changes in mean, rate and variance of facial shape at local scale using geometric morphometrics through deformation perspective. A total of 2112 Europeans 3 to 40 years old from the three-dimensional Facial Norms project were included. Shape and rate trajectories from partial least-squares regressions revealed that the developmentally protrusive nasal bridge was due to local expansion in surrounding tissues as opposed to shape changes in nasal bridge per se . Local expansion of the supraorbital region, in particular the medial part in males, resulted in the sloping forehead and deep-situated eyes with development. Facial shape variation increased nonlinearly with age ( p < 0.05), with features having larger rate of change becoming more developmentally diversified. In summary, our deformation perspective facilitates unravelling morphogenetic processes underlying shape changes. Our extended analytical scope inspires novel measures worthy of consideration while establishing facial growth charts. Fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) in Northeast China was targeted by national-level clean air policy for the first time in 2022, with the release of Action Plan to eliminate heavy air pollution events. In this study, we investigated sources of PM 2.5 during three successive winters in Harbin, a megacity in Northeast China, based on observational results from several recent campaigns in 2018-2021. During the 2020-2021 campaign, daytime and nighttime samples were collected in specific months in addition to 24-h integrated measurements, and the two sets of samples were combined in different ways to run a positive matrix factorization model. The source apportionment results suggested that the resolved secondary organic carbon (SOC PMF ) had an uncertainty of ∼12%. Secondary aerosols were found to show the following features for the typical winters without agricultural fires. First, SOC PMF could be properly constrained by results from another widely-used approach for SOC estimation, the elemental carbon-tracer method. Second, secondary PM 2.5 calculated using SOC PMF and secondary inorganic ions were generally in line with the independent estimations based on air quality data. Third, secondary components accounted for more than 50% of PM 2.5 on average and contributed even more significantly during severe haze episodes, which were the focus of the latest Action Plan. This study also found that the wintertime PM 2.5 decreased more slowly during 2017-2021 compared to 2013-2017, by ∼1 and 10 μg/m 3 per year, respectively, for the metropolitan area where Harbin is located at. This study determined the surface electromyography (sEMG) characteristics of healthy Chinese adults during swallowing to provide a reference for the clinical differential diagnosis of swallowing and dysphagia. sEMG was performed on 187 healthy adults to obtain quantitative information on normal pharyngeal swallowing. The evaluated parameters included the timing and amplitude of sEMG activity in the submental and infrahyoid muscles. A normative database was constructed for the timing and amplitude of muscle activity during pharyngeal swallowing. Results indicated that the duration of sEMG activity was related to the age of the patient; the duration gradually increasing with age. Similarly, the duration of the sEMG activity was associated with the type of swallowing. The duration of the sEMG activity was similar for dry and wet swallowing but was significantly different for excessive swallowing. The mean amplitude of sEMG activity for the submental and infrahyoid muscles was not significantly associated with patient age. A significant correlation between the mean amplitude of sEMG activity and the types of normal swallowing was observed in infrahyoid, but not in submental muscle activity. To conduct a study that examined the molecular epidemiology and pathogenesis of Salmonella Senftenberg isolates associated with an outbreak of foodborne disease in Guizhou Province and to provide a reference basis for the traceability of foodborne salmonellosis outbreaks and clinical diagnosis and treatment in the province. Fourteen strains of suspected Salmonella isolated from patient stool and food samples were used for pathogenic identification and serotyping by biochemical and mass spectrometry methods. Fourteen types of antibiotics were tested for drug sensitivity by the microbroth dilution method, and molecular typing was performed by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and whole genome sequencing (WGS). After the sequencing data were spliced by SPAdes, the gene protein sequences were compared with the Comprehensive Antibiotic Research Database and Virulence Factor Database, drug resistance and virulence genes were predicted, and whole genome multilocus sequence typing (wgMLST) was performed. The results were compared with those for Salmonella strains of the same serotype from the past 5 years in China detailed on the TraNet website. All 14 strains were identified as Salmonella Senftenberg (with the antigenic formula 1,3,19:g,s,t:-), and in the PFGE cluster tree, the strains were divided into two band types, with a similarity of 88.9%. The 14 strains were sensitive to the 14 antibiotics. WGS analysis showed that the 14 strains carried the same drug resistance and virulence genes and that all strains carried 3 aminoglycoside and lipopeptide drug resistance genes, including 114 virulence genes. The wgMLST results showed that the strains were distributed on the same small branch as those obtained from previous outbreaks of infection in Tianjin and Jilin. Salmonella Senftenberg, which caused the outbreak, carries a variety of virulence genes, which suggests that the strain is highly pathogenic. These pathogenic bacteria may be associated with the Salmonella strain in Tianjin, Jilin, and other places and have caused foodborne disease outbreaks as a result of imported contamination.

Introduction: Over the past 2 decades in the U.S., the reduced burden and narrowed inequality in oral health among children are in stark contrast with the high burden and widening inequality in adult oral health. This study aimed to explore the burden, trends, and inequalities of untreated caries in permanent teeth in the U.S. during 1990-2019., Methods: Data on burden of untreated caries in permanent teeth were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. A set of advanced analytical methods were applied to provide an in-depth characterization of the epidemiologic profile of dental caries in the U.S. Analyses were conducted during April 2022-October 2022., Results: In 2019, age-standardized incidence and prevalence of untreated caries in permanent teeth were respectively 39,111.7 (95% uncertainty interval=35,073.0-42,964.9) and 21,722.5 (95% uncertainty interval=18,748.7-25,090.3) per 100,000 person-years. Population growth was the primary driver of the increased caries cases, which contributed 31.3% and 31.0% of the increase in the number of incident and prevalent caries cases, respectively, during 1990-2019. The highest caries burden was noted in Arizona, West Virginia, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. The slope index of inequality remained stable (p=0.076), whereas the relative index of inequality increased significantly (average annual percent change=0.04, p<0.001) in the U.S. The burden of untreated caries in permanent teeth remained significant with a widening cross-state inequality during 1990-2019., Conclusions: The oral healthcare system in the U.S. needs to prioritize health promotion and prevention with a focus on expanding access, affordability, and equity., (Copyright © 2023 American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Mycotoxins have substantial impacts on agricultural production and food preservation. Some have high similarities in bioactivity but subtle differences on structures from various fungal producers. Understanding of their complex cross-biosynthesis will provide new insights into enzyme functions and food safety. Here, based on structurally related mycotoxins, such as aurovertins, asteltoxin, and citreoviridin, we showed that methyltransferase (MT)-catalyzed methylation is required for efficient oxidation and polyketide stability. MTs have broad interactions with polyketide synthases and flavin-containing monooxygenases (FMOs), while MT AstB is required for FMO AstC functionality in vivo. FMOs have common catalysis on pyrone-polyene intermediates but different catalytic specificity and efficiency on oxidative intermediates for the selective production of more toxic and complex mycotoxins. Thus, the subtle protein interaction and elaborate versatile catalysis of biosynthetic enzymes contribute to the efficient and selective biosynthesis of these structure-related mycotoxins and provide the basis to re-evaluate and control mycotoxins for agricultural and food safety.

Transition metal coordination complexes have provided cancer treatment with new insights to overcome the limitations of current chemotherapeutic agents. Utilization of bifunctional tetrazole-carboxylate ligands with Zn(ii) obtained two self-assembled complexes [Zn(HL 1 )(bipy) 3/2 (H 2 O)]·CH 3 OH·4(H 2 O) (1) (H 3 L 1 = 1,3,5-tri(2-carboxymethyltetrazol-5-yl) benzene) and [Zn(L 2 ) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] 2 ·2H 2 O (2) (HL 2 = (5-pyridin-3-yl-tetrazol-2-yl)-acetic acid). The X-ray diffraction results showed that the two complexes displayed a two-dimensional (2D) layer structure and a one-dimensional (1D) layer structure. Nanocoprecipitation with DSPE-PEG-2000 resulted in the formation of complex nanoparticles (NPS) with excellent water dispersion. In vitro CCK-8 assay indicated the two NPs exert high cytotoxicity and sensitivity and a low half-maximum inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) towards HeLa than HepG2 cells. In addition, the cytotoxicity was also confirmed by live/dead co-stained experiments. Airborne particulates (PM 2.5 and TSP) were collected from outdoor and indoor areas at urban (Haizhu District) and suburban (Huadu District) sites from 2019 to 2020 in Guangzhou. Three nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs) in the airborne particulates were identified by a gas chromatograph equipped with a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer. In the Haizhu District and Huadu District, the nitro-PAH concentrations in PM 2.5 and TSP did not show a significant decrease from winter to summer. From 2019 to 2020, the difference in the average concentration of nitro-PAHs in PM 2.5 and TSP in Guangzhou was relatively low and had no statistical significance. The diagnostic ratios of 2-nitrofluorene (2-NF)/1-nitropyrene (1-NP) in TSP are less than five, while for 2-NF/1-NP in outdoor PM 2.5 in the summer of 2019 and 2020 are more than five, which indicates that nitro-PAHs in the atmospheric PM 2.5 in Guangzhou during summer mainly originated from the secondary formation of atmospheric photochemical reactions between parent PAHs and oxidants (·OH, NO 3 , and O 3 ). 9-Nitroanthracene (9-NT) made the most significant contribution to the total nitro-PAH concentration. The incremental lifetime cancer risks (ILCRs) of nitro-PAHs in PM 2.5 and TSP by inhalation exposure indicated low potential health risks in the urban-suburban of Guangzhou.

Background: WRKY transcription factors play key roles in plant development processes and stress response. Kandelia obovata is the most cold-resistant species of mangrove plants, which are the important contributors to coastal marine environment. However, there is little known about the WRKY genes in K. obovata., Results: In this study, a WRKY transcription factor gene, named KoWRKY40, was identified from mangrove plant K. obovata. The full-length cDNA of KoWRKY40 gene was 1420 nucleotide bases, which encoded 318 amino acids. The KoWRKY40 protein contained a typical WRKY domain and a C2H2 zinc-finger motif, which were common signatures to group II of WRKY family. The three-dimensional (3D) model of KoWRKY40 was formed by one α-helix and five β-strands. Evolutionary analysis revealed that KoWRKY40 has the closest homology with a WRKY protein from another mangrove plant Bruguiera gymnorhiza. The KoWRKY40 protein was verified to be exclusively located in nucleus of tobacco epidermis cells. Gene expression analysis demonstrated that KoWRKY40 was induced highly in the roots and leaves, but lowly in stems in K. obovata under cold stress. Overexpression of KoWRKY40 in Arabidopsis significantly enhanced the fresh weight, root length, and lateral root number of the transgenic lines under cold stress. KoWRKY40 transgenic Arabidopsis exhibited higher proline content, SOD, POD, and CAT activities, and lower MDA content, and H 2 O 2 content than wild-type Arabidopsis under cold stress condition. Cold stress affected the expression of genes related to proline biosynthesis, antioxidant system, and the ICE-CBF-COR signaling pathway, including AtP5CS1, AtPRODH1, AtMnSOD, AtPOD, AtCAT1, AtCBF1, AtCBF2, AtICE1, AtCOR47 in KoWRKY40 transgenic Arabidopsis plants., Conclusion: These results demonstrated that KoWRKY40 conferred cold tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis by regulating plant growth, osmotic balance, the antioxidant system, and ICE-CBF-COR signaling pathway. Previous studies on the global burden of caries primarily focused on simple descriptive statistics. We aimed to characterize the burden, trends, and inequalities of untreated caries of permanent and deciduous teeth from 1990 to 2019 at the global, regional, and national levels through an array of analytic approaches. Estimates of caries burden were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. Decomposition analysis was performed to examine the contribution of demographic and epidemiologic factors to the evolving number of prevalent caries cases. In portfolio analysis, the caries epidemiologic profile of each country was categorized by terciles of age-standardized prevalence in 2019 and average annual percentage change from 1990 to 2019. Sociodemographic attribution analysis was performed to reveal the scale of inequality in burden of caries. Age-standardized prevalence of caries in permanent and deciduous teeth decreased 3.6% (95% uncertainty interval, 2.6% to 4.5%) and 3.0% (1.3% to 4.9%), respectively. Population growth was the key driver of the changes in the number of caries cases, especially in sub-Saharan Africa (percentage contribution: 126.6%, permanent teeth; 103.0%, deciduous teeth). Caries prevalence in the permanent dentition was lower in more developed countries, whereas a reverse trend was noted in the deciduous dentition, except for the highest sociodemographic quintile where caries prevalence was the lowest. Globally, 64.6 million (95% CI, 64.4 to 64.9 million) and 62.9 million (62.8 to 63.1 million) prevalent cases of caries in permanent and deciduous teeth were attributable to sociodemographic inequality in 2019. This amounted to 3.2% (3.2% to 3.2%) and 12.1% (12.1% to 12.1%) of the global number of prevalent cases of caries in permanent and deciduous teeth. Burden of dental caries remains a global public health challenge. A systemwide reform of the global oral health care system is needed to tackle the causes of the burden and inequality of dental caries.

COVID-19 rebounded in China in January 2021, with Heilongjiang as one of the worst-affected provinces. This resulted in a new round of lockdown in Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang, from 20 January to 22 February of 2021. A field campaign was conducted to explore the responses of haze pollution in Harbin to the lockdown. Levoglucosan was used to reflect biomass burning emissions, while the molar ratio of sulfur (the sum of sulfur dioxide and sulfate) to nitrogen (the sum of nitrogen dioxide and nitrate), i.e., R S/N , was used as an indicator for the relative importance of coal combustion and vehicle emissions. Based on a synthesis of the levoglucosan and R S/N results, reference period was selected with minimal influences of non-lockdown-related emission variations. As indicated by the almost unchanged sulfur dioxide concentrations, coal combustion emissions were relatively stable throughout the lockdown and reference periods, presumably because the associated activities, e.g., heating supply, power generation, etc., were usually uninterruptible. On the other hand, as suggested by the increase of R S/N , vehicle emissions were considerably reduced during lockdown, likely due to the stay-at-home orders. Compared to results from the reference samples, the lockdown period exhibited higher levels of ozone and various indicators for secondary aerosol formation, pointing to an enhancement of secondary pollution. In addition, photochemistry-related reactions in aqueous phase appeared to be present during the lockdown period, which have not been reported in the frigid atmosphere over Northeast China., (Copyright © 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Alcoholic liver disease (ALD), with its increasing morbidity and mortality, has seriously and extensively affected the health of people worldwide. Caffeic Acid Dimethyl Ether (CADE) significantly inhibits alcohol-induced hepatic steatosis in vivo through AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway, but its in-depth mechanism remains unclear. This work aimed to clarify further mechanism of CADE in improving hepatic lipid accumulation in ALD through the microRNA-378b (miR-378b)-mediated Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase 2 (CaMKK2)-AMPK signaling pathway. Here, we reported that the hepatic or serum triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate transaminase (AST) levels were sharply escalated by ethanol while prominently decreased by CADE. Ethanol sharply up-regulated miR-378b expression while CADE effectively prevented the elevation of miR-378b in vivo . And treatment of CADE surely increased mRNA and protein expression of CaMKK2 as a kinase of AMPK and reduced lipid accumulation in the livers of alcohol-fed C57BL/6 mice. MiR-378b escalation exacerbated hepatic steatosis and inhibited CaMKK2-AMPK signaling, while miR-378b deficiency alleviated lipid accumulation and activated the CaMKK2 cascade. Furthermore, CADE alleviated the lipid deposition and reversed the disorder of CaMKK2-AMPK signaling pathway induced by miR-378b over-expression. However, knockdown of miR-378b eliminated the beneficial effect of CADE on lipid metabolism. In brief, our results showed that CADE ultimately improved hepatic lipid deposition by regulating the CaMKK2-AMPK signaling pathway through miR-378b.

Integrated microbial electrolysis cell-anaerobic digestion (MEC-AD) systems have demonstrated potential advantages for methane production in the presence of small amounts of residual inhibitors. In this study, a series of tests were conducted to analyse the acidification and methanogenesis performance of pretreated rice straw (RS) in anaerobic digestion (AD) and MEC-AD systems after the addition of Fenton-like reagents. The results indicated that the short-chain acids (SCFAs) accumulations reached 2284.64 ± 21.57 mg COD/L with a dosage ratio of 1/4 (g RS/g VSS sludge) in the MEC-AD system and that methane production increased by 63.8% compared with that of an individual AD system. In the interim, the net energy output reached 1.09 × 10 3  J/g TCOD, which was 1.23 times higher than that of the AD system. The residual Fe 3+ /Fe 2+ in the pretreatment reagent was capable of promoting acidification and methanogenesis in sludge and RS fermentation. The RS hydrolysis products could constrain methanogenesis, which can be mitigated by introducing an MEC. The microbiological analyses revealed that the MEC strongly increased the enrichment of hydrogenotrophic methanogens, especially Methanobacterium (61.16%). Meanwhile, the Syntrophomonas and Acetobacterium abundances increased to 2.81% and 2.65%, respectively, which suggested the reinforcement of acetogenesis and methanogenesis. The massive agricultural sector in the Northeast Plain, which is of great importance for the food security in China, results in a huge amount of crop residues and thus substantial concern on haze pollution due to biomass burning (BB). To seek for effective control measures on BB emissions, a dramatic transition of open burning policy occurred in Heilongjiang Province, from the "legitimate burning" policy released in 2018 to the "strict prohibition" policy implemented in 2019 and beyond. Here we explored the BB aerosols during 2020-2021 in Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang. Although open burning was strictly prohibited by mandatory bans, agricultural fires were not actually eliminated, as indicated by the levoglucosan levels and fire count results. In general, the BB aerosols in Harbin were attributed to the overlaying of household burning and agricultural fire emissions. The former factor laid the foundation of biomass burning impacts, with BB contributions to organic carbon and elemental carbon (f BBOC and f BBEC ) of 35 and 47%, respectively. The latter further enhanced the BB impacts during specific episodes breaking out in the spring of 2021 as well as the fall of 2020, when f BBOC and f BBEC increased to 64 and 57%, respectively. In addition, comparing to the fires of 2018-2019 which occurred in winter (in response to the "legitimate burning" policy), the agricultural fires were shifted to spring and fall in the 2020-2021 campaign, accompanied with an increase of combustion efficiency. Four mononuclear terpyridine complexes [Cu(H-L a )Cl 2 ]·CH 3 OH (1), [Cu(H-L a )Cl]ClO 4 (2), [Cu(H-L b )Cl 2 ]·CH 3 OH (3), and [Cu(H-L b )(CH 3 OH)(DMSO)](ClO 4 ) 2 (4) were prepared and fully characterized. Complexes 1-4 exhibited higher cytotoxic activity against several tested cancer cell lines especially BEL-7402 cells compared to cisplatin, and they showed low toxicity towards normal human liver cells. ICP-MS detection indicated that the copper complexes were accumulated in mitochondria. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that the copper complexes induced G0/G1 arrest and altered the expression of the related proteins of the cell cycle. All copper complexes reduced the mitochondrial membrane potential while increasing the intracellular ROS levels and the release of Ca 2+ . They also up-regulated Bax and down-regulated Bcl-2 expression levels, caused cytochrome c release and the activation of the caspase cascade, and induced mitochondrion-mediated apoptosis. Animal studies demonstrated that complex 1 suppressed tumor growth in a mouse xenograft model bearing BEL-7402 tumor cells.

Radial superlattices are nanostructured materials obtained by rolling up thin solid films into spiral-like tubular structures. The formation of these "high-order" superlattices from two-dimensional crystals or ultrathin films is expected to result in a transition of transport characteristics from two-dimensional to one-dimensional. Here, we show that a transport hallmark of radial superlattices is the appearance of magnetoconductance modulations in the presence of externally applied axial magnetic fields. This phenomenon critically relies on electronic interlayer tunneling processes that activate an unconventional Aharonov-Bohm-like effect. Using a combination of density functional theory calculations and low-energy continuum models, we determine the electronic states of a paradigmatic single-material radial superlattice - a two-winding carbon nanoscroll - and indeed show momentum-dependent oscillations of the magnetic states in the axial configuration, which we demonstrate to be entirely due to hopping between the two windings of the spiral-shaped scroll.

A previous study indicated that microRNA-378b (miR-378b) plays a critical role in controlling hepatic insulin resistance by targeting insulin receptor (IR) and p110α in alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Methyl ferulic acid (MFA), a bioactive ingredient in Securidaca inappendiculata Hassk rhizomes, exhibits multiple pharmacological activities. It has been reported that MFA ameliorates insulin resistance in ALD, whereas the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. The objective of study was to evaluate the influence of MFA on insulin sensitivity in ethanol-induced L-02 cells as well as alcohol-fed mice and illuminate the function of miR-378b-mediated phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) pathway in system. MFA was found to remarkably down-regulate miR-378b level and increase IR and p110α expressions. Furthermore, the effect of MFA on modulating miR-378b/PI3K-AKT pathway to enhance insulin sensitivity was corroborated by overexpressing and inhibiting miR-378b. Taken together, MFA exhibited a positive effect against ALD by attenuating the inhibition of miR-378b on IR/p110α and partly activating the insulin signaling to alleviate alcohol-induced hepatic insulin resistance., (Copyright © 2021 The Authors. Introduction: The Apgar score is a standardized method of assessing the primary adaptation and clinical status of a neonate after birth. Our objective was to systematically review and meta-analyze the survival and the survival without moderate-to-severe neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) of neonates with a 10-min Apgar score of zero., Methods: Six electronic databases were searched for reports published until November 2021 of neonates with a 10-min Apgar score of zero. Risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale for cohort studies and the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist for case series/reports. Meta-analyses of the proportion of outcomes were conducted using a random-effects model for studies published after year 2000 and reporting >5 neonates. Meta-regression using the median year of the study period and subgroup analyses by treatment with therapeutic hypothermia and by gestational age were conducted., Results: Twenty-eight studies of 820 neonates with moderate risk of bias were included. Survival was 40% (95% confidence interval 30-50%, 16 studies, 646 neonates, I2 = 83%), and it increased by 2.3% per year (95% CI 1.3-3.2%, p < 0.001). Survival without moderate-to-severe NDI was 19% (95% confidence interval 11-27%, 13 studies, 211 neonates, I2 = 62%). Survival was higher for neonates who received therapeutic hypothermia and for those with a gestational age ≥32 weeks compared to <32 weeks., Conclusion: Approximately 2 in 5 neonates with a 10-min Apgar score of zero survived, and 1 in 5 survive without moderate-to-severe NDI survived. Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) has seriously harmed the health of people worldwide, but its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to clarify the biological function of microRNA-378b (miR-378b) in ethanol (EtOH)-induced hepatic lipid accumulation. Here, we report miR-378b is over-expressed in EtOH-induced cells and EtOH-fed mice and finally accelerates lipid accumulation. MiR-378b directly targets Ca 2+ /calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase 2 (CaMKK2), a kinase of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), and mediates the protein level of CaMKK2. Over-expression of miR-378b exacerbated the lipid accumulation induced by EtOH and inhibited CaMKK2 and the AMPK cascade while inhibition of miR-378b ameliorated lipid metabolism dysfunction in vivo and in vitro. In brief, our results show that miR-378b plays an important role in the regulation of lipid metabolism by directly targeting CaMKK2.

The application of plastic film mulching can greatly improve dryland productivity, while the release of toxic phthalate esters (PAEs) from the plastic film has generated concern. This study investigated the effects of mulched plastic film and residual plastic film on the PAE concentrations in the soil-crop system and assessed the risks to people eating crop products. The PAEs concentration in the 0-25 cm soil layer of plastic mulched farmland was 0.45-0.81 mg/kg, while the average PAEs concentration of 0.37-0.73 mg/kg in non-mulched farmland decreased by 19%. The PAEs concentration in mulched soil reached the highest in July, being 0.80-0.84 mg/kg, while in the non-mulched soil, the PAEs also appeared and gradually decreased from May at 0.62-0.74 mg/kg to October, and the PAEs concentrations were almost the same in the mulched and non-mulched soils at the harvest time in October at 0.37-0.44 mg/kg. With the amounts of residual film in farmland increasing from 0 kg/ha to 2700 kg/ha (equivalent to the total amount of residual film after 60 years of continuous plastic film mulching), the PAEs concentrations were no significant changes, being 0.54-0.93 mg/kg. Maize (Zea mays L.) roots could absorb and accumulate PAEs, and the bio-concentration factor (BCF) was 1.6-2.3, and the average PAEs concentrations in stems, leaves, and grains were 79%-80% of those in roots at 0.77-1.47 mg/kg. For the ingestion of maize grains or potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tubers grown in plastic film mulched farmland or farmland containing residual film of 450-2700 kg/ha, the hazard index (HI) were less than 1, the carcinogenic risks (CRs) were 2.5 × 10 -7 -2.2 × 10 -6 , and the estrogenic equivalences were 6.17-17.73 ng E 2 /kg. A decanuclear silver chalcogenide cluster, [Ag 10 (Se){Se 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 8 ] ( 2 ) was isolated from a hydride-encapsulated silver diisopropyl diselenophosphates, [Ag 7 (H){Se 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 ], under thermal condition. The time-dependent NMR spectroscopy showed that 2 was generated at the first three hours and the hydrido silver cluster was completely consumed after thirty-six hours. This method illustrated as cluster-to-cluster transformations can be applied to prepare selenide-centered decanuclear bimetallic clusters, [Cu x Ag 10-x (Se){Se 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 8 ] (x = 0-7, 3 ), via heating [Cu x Ag 7-x (H){Se 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 ] (x = 1-6) at 60 °C. Compositions of 3 were accurately confirmed by the ESI mass spectrometry. While the crystal 2 revealed two un-identical [Ag 10 (Se){Se 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 8 ] structures in the asymmetric unit, a co-crystal of [Cu 3 Ag 7 (Se){Se 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 8 ] 0.6 [Cu 4 Ag 6 (Se){Se 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 8 ] 0.4 ([ 3a ] 0.6 [ 3b ] 0.4 ) was eventually characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Even though compositions of 2 , [ 3a ] 0.6 [ 3b ] 0.4 and the previous published [Ag 10 (Se){Se 2 P(OEt) 2 } 8 ] ( 1 ) are quite similar (10 metals, 1 Se 2- , 8 ligands), their metal core arrangements are completely different. These results show that different synthetic methods by using different starting reagents can affect the structure of the resulting products, leading to polymorphism.

Aim: Up-to-date epidemiological studies on the global burden of severe periodontitis is scarce. This study aimed to present the latest estimates for prevalence of severe periodontitis from 1990 to 2019, by region, age, and level of socio-demographic development., Materials and Methods: Estimates from the Global Burden of Disease study 2019 were used to investigate burden and trends of prevalence of severe periodontitis and its association with socio-demographic development at global, regional, and national level. Decomposition analysis was performed to explore the contribution of demographic and epidemiological factors to the evolving burden of severe periodontitis., Results: In 2019, there were 1.1 billion (95% uncertainty interval: 0.8-1.4 billion) prevalent cases of severe periodontitis globally. From 1990 to 2019, age-standardized prevalence rate of severe periodontitis increased by 8.44% (6.62%-10.59%) worldwide. Prevalence of severe periodontitis is higher among less developed countries/regions. Global population growth accounted for 67.9% of the increase in the number of prevalent cases of severe periodontitis from 1990 to 2019., Conclusions: The global burden of severe periodontitis has been substantial and increasing over the past three decades. The bimetallic M 20 and M 21 compounds, {[Cu 3 Ag 17 {S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 12 ] 0.5 [Cu 4 Ag 16 {S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 12 ] 0.5 } ({[1a] 0.5 [1b] 0.5 }) and [Cu 4 Ag 17 {S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 12 ](PF 6 ) (2), have been structurally characterized, in which the Cu(I) ions are randomly distributed on the eight outer positions capping the eight-electron [Ag 13 ] 5+ core. DFT calculations show that the statistical disorder results from the nearly neutral preference of copper to occupy any of the eight outer positions. Surprisingly, the UV-Vis absorption spectra of the M 20 and M 21 bimetallic nanoclusters display an almost identical absorption profile as that of their homometallic [Ag 20 {S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 12 ] and [Ag 21 {S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 12 ] + relatives. This is rationalized by TD-DFT calculations, which show that the frontier orbitals of such eight-electron alloys are largely independent from the nature of the capping metal ions. A blue-shifted absorption is observed upon replacing by Au the central Ag atom in 2, forming the trimetallic compound [Cu 4 AuAg 16 {S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 12 ](PF 6 ) (3).

Background: Accurate appraisal of burden of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) cancers is crucial to informing resource allocation and policy making. We report on the latest estimates of burden of AYA cancers in 204 countries and territories between 1990 and 2019 in association with socio-demographic index (SDI)., Patients and Methods: Estimates from the Global Burden of Disease study 2019 were used to analyse incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) due to AYA cancers at global, regional, and national levels by sex. Association between AYA cancer burden and SDI were investigated. Burdens of AYA cancers were contextualized in comparison with childhood and older adult cancers. All estimates are reported as counts and age-standardized rates per 100,000 person-years., Results: In 2019, there were 1.2 million incident cases, 0.4 million deaths, and 23.5 million DALYs due to AYA cancers globally. The highest age-standardized incidence rate occurred in Western Europe (75.3 [Females] and 67.4 [Males] per 100,000 person-years). Age-standardized death (23.2 [Females] and 13.9 [Males] per 100,000 person-years) and DALY (1328.3 [Females] and 1059.2 [Males] per 100,000 person-years) rates were highest in Oceania. Increasing SDI was associated with a higher age-standardized incidence rate. An inverted U-shaped association was identified between SDI and death and DALY rates. AYA cancers collectively is the second leading cause of non-communicable diseases-related deaths globally in 2019. DALYs of AYA cancers ranked the second globally and the first in low and low-middle SDI locations when compared with that of childhood and older adult cancers., Conclusion: The global burden of AYA cancers is substantial and disproportionally affect populations in limited-resource settings. Capacity building for AYA cancers is essential in promoting equity and population health worldwide.

Rational syntheses under controllable reducing conditions in the preparation of superatoms with cluster electron number not exceeding two are challenging. Herein a dithiolate-stabilized two-electron silver nanocluster, Ag 10 {S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 8 (1), is isolated via a self-redox reaction of Ag 7 (H){S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 without adding extra reducing agents. The metal framework of Ag 7 , a bicapped trigonal bipyramid, is highly correlated to that of Ag 10 , suggesting Ag 7 (H){S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 acts as both reducing agent and template in cluster growth. 1 is highly fluorescent at ambient temperature and TD-DFT calculations indicate that the emission is of 1P x →1S nature., (© 2021 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Mesomorphous butterfly-like shape molecules based on benzodithiophene, benzodithiophene-4,8-dione and cyclopentadithiophen-4-one core moieties were efficiently synthesized by the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and Scholl oxidative cyclo-dehydrogenation reactions' tandem. Most of the butterfly molecules spontaneously self-organize into columnar hexagonal mesophase. The electron-deficient systems possess strong solvent-gelling ability but are not luminescent, whereas the electron-rich terms do not form gels but strongly emit light between 400 and 600 nm. The charge carrier mobility was also measured by time-of-flight transient photocurrent technique in the mesophases for some of the compounds. They display hole-transport performances with positive charge mobility in the 10 -3  cm -2  V -1  s -1 range, consistent with the high degree of ordering and stability of the columnar superstructures. In particular, the mesogen with a benzodithiophen-4,8-dione core shows ambipolar charge carrier transport with both high electron (μ e =6.6×10 -3  cm -2  V -1  s -1 ) and hole (μ h =4.5×10 -3  cm -2  V -1  s -1 ) mobility values., (© 2021 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

The objective of the current study was to analyze expression levels of synapse differentiation inducing 1-like ( SYNDIG1L ) and unc-13 homolog C ( UNC13C ) genes in different tissues, while single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of two genes were associated with multiple thoracic vertebrae traits in both Small-tailed Han sheep (STH) and Sunite sheep (SNT). The expression levels of SYNDIG1L and UNC13C were analyzed in the brain, cerebellum, heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, adrenal gland, uterine horn, longissimus muscle, and abdominal adipose tissues of two sheep breeds with different thoracic vertebral number (TVN) sheep (T13 groups and T14 groups) by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Meanwhile, the polymorphisms of UNC13C gene g.52919279C > T and SYNDIG1L gene g.82573325C > A in T14 and T13 were genotyped by the Sequenom MassARRAY ® SNP assay, and association analysis was performed with the TVN. The results demonstrated that UNC13C gene was extensively expressed in 11 tissues. The expression of UNC13C gene in longissimus muscle of T14 groups of STH was significantly higher than that of T13 groups ( P < 0.05 ). SYNDIG1L gene was overexpressed in brain and cerebellum tissues, and the expression level of UNC13C gene in the brain and cerebellum of T13 groups in SNT was significantly higher than that of T14 groups ( P < 0.01 ). Association analysis showed that SNPs found in the UNC13C gene had no significant effects on TVN for both two genes. The polymorphism of SYNDIG1L g.82573325C > A was significantly correlated with the TVN in both STH ( P < 0.05 ) and SNT ( P < 0.01 ). Encouraged by the successful syntheses of alloy nanoclusters (or nanoparticles) via intercluster (or interparticle) reactions, herein we apply this methodology to prepare a series of bimetallic hydride clusters. Mixing of two clusters, [Ag 7 (H){E 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 ] (E = S, 1; Se, 3) and [Cu 7 (H){E 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 ] (E = S, 2; Se, 4), yields two series of hydride-centered bimetallic clusters, [Cu x Ag 7-x (H){E 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 ] (x = 0-7; E = S, 5; Se, 6). Their compositions are fully characterized by positive-mode ESI-MS spectrometry, multi-NMR spectroscopy, and the structures of [Cu 6 Ag(H){S 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 ] (5a) and [CuAg 6 (H){Se 2 P(O i Pr) 2 } 6 ] (6a) by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The presence of individual compounds in solution is the result of a (dynamic) chemical equilibrium primarily driven by metal exchanges. In fact, the process of inter-cluster exchange of 1 and 2 leading to hydride-centered bimetallic clusters 5 can be monitored by concentration-dependent 31 P NMR spectroscopy of which the higher concentration of 1 in the reaction, the closer to its resonance will be the distribution, in accord with Le Chatelier's principle. The dynamic equilibrium is further confirmed by 2D exchange spectroscopy that reveals a stepwise process involving one metal exchange at a time. DFT calculations on a model series of clusters 6 show that silver prefers occupying the inner tetrahedral positions, while copper favors capping positions, in full agreement with the crystal structure of 5a and 6a.

A binder is an important component in lithium-ion batteries and plays a significant role in maintaining the properties of active substances. Most studies in the field of binders have only focussed on physical properties such as bonding performance. Here, a polyacrylic acid-modified binder was designed and adapted to Li[Ni 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 ]O 2 , which enhanced the electrochemical stability of Li[Ni 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 ]O 2 from 30.2 to 66.6% (300 cycles at 1 C). We for the first time discovered that this was caused by a chemical reaction between polyacrylic acid and the residual lithium on the surface during the cycling, which formed a lithium propionic acid coating layer and maintained the stability of the layered structure.
