28. Myxoid adrenocortical adenoma with a pseudoglandular pattern: a case report and literature review

Abstract

Adrenocortical adenoma is a benign neoplasm derived from cells of the adrenal cortex. The myxoid variant of this tumor is extremely rare. To our knowledge, only 23 cases of myxoid adrenocortical adenoma have been reported so far and 19 of them mentioned the pseudoglandular pattern. We reported a new case of 56-year-old Chinese female patient whose left adrenal gland was shown a neoplastic lesion by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging. Histopathological study showed that the mass was a myxoid adrenocortical adenoma with a pseudoglandular pattern. Then, we performed immunohistochemistry with 28 biomarkers to make differential diagnosis and found that tumor cells were diffusely positive for vimentin, melan-A, CD56, NSE and USP10, and focally positive for cytokeratin pan, cytokeratin 8/18 and VEGF. The labeling index of Ki-67 and Cyclin D1 were about 1% and 50%, respectively. No immunoreactivity was found for EMA, cytokeratin 7, HMB45, S-100, alpha-inhibin, calretinin, synaptophysin, chromogranin A, P53, EGFR, MMP2, DNA topo II alpha, CA125, E-cadherin, P63, P16 and Her-2. The patient has been followed up for 37 months after tumor resection and no evidence was found to suggest any local recurrence or any metastatic disease. Myxoid adrenocortical adenoma with a pseudoglandular pattern is extremely rare. The accurate diagnosis should be based on combined consideration of clinical characteristics, CT, MR imaging and pathological features, and should be distinguished from other retroperitoneal myxoid tumors.

Abstract

A novel forecasting model combinating autoregressive integrating moving average(ARIMA) with dynamic e-insensitive cost function support vector machine(e-DSVM)was brought forth, which showed the complicated and dynamic characteristics of Dendrolimus punctatus occurrence. ARIMA model was used to capture the linear feature of the time series and e-DSVM model to fit the nonlinear component of the time series to obtain the ensemble forecasting result by adding ARIMA to e-DSVM. The prediction performances of the method was tested by Dendrolimus punctatus occurrence, and the results showed that the hybrid model, which took advantage of the unique strength of the two models in linear and nonlinear modeling, had better accuracy than the single model and simple ensemble forecasting model incorporating ARIMA and SVM. As a novel model combinated ARIMA with e-DSVM , the combinatining model had the advantages of structural risk minimization and non-linear characteristics, which was suitable for small samples, being able to avoid the over-fit. It is a new, powerful tool in pests forecasting work.

Abstract

Summary We present a web server, GenCLiP 3, which is an updated version of GenCLiP 2.0 to enhance analysis of human gene functions and regulatory networks, with the following improvements: (i) accurate recognition of molecular interactions with polarity and directionality from the entire PubMed database; (ii) support for Boolean search to customize multiple-term search and to quickly retrieve function-related genes; (iii) strengthened association between gene and keyword by a new scoring method; and (iv) daily updates following literature release at PubMed FTP. Abstract

In order to solve the problems of high nonlinearity of regional social systems, the hybrid method of support vector machine and genetic algorithm is applied to predict regional economies. Support vector machine is a statistical learning procedure based on the structural risk minimization principle, which has very strong nonlinear regression. Genetic algorithm is well-known as an more widely used method, which is applied to select the operating parameters of support vector machine. The regional economies data from 1987 to 2003 are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. It is observed from the experiments that prediction performance of the proposed approach than that of normal support vector machine. It is concluded that the proposed approach is a viable alternative to predict regional economies.

33. Expression and clinical implication of S100A12 in gastric carcinoma.

Abstract

S100 protein family has been implicated in multiple stages of tumorigenesis and progression in which S100A12 is one of the subtypes. However, the role of S100A12 in gastric carcinoma (GC) has not been elucidated yet. This study was aimed to investigate the expression of S100A12 in GC tissues and evaluate the clinical significance of S100A12 in GC patients. S100A12 protein was detected in 207 GC and 52 paired non-cancerous mucosal tissues by immunohistochemistry, while messenger RNA (mRNA) was investigated by Oncomine database analysis. Moreover, survival analysis was performed and the correlation between S100A12 and ubiquitin-specific protease 10 (USP10) and p53 was determined. As for tumor cells, the expression of S100A12 protein and mRNA in GC was proved to be lower than that in non-cancerous mucosa tissues ( p < 0.05). Clinicopathological analysis showed that S100A12 protein was negatively associated with tumor size ( p = 0.004), depth of invasion ( p = 0.022), tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage ( p = 0.018), Lauren classification ( p < 0.000), and cell differentiation ( p < 0.000). In contrast, a positive correlation was found between S100A12 and USP10 protein ( p < 0.000). However, no relationship was detected between S100A12 and p53. Moreover, the survival analysis indicated that S100A12 protein was a favorable factor of prognosis of GC ( p < 0.05). Although the expression of S100A12 in the stromal cells was detected higher than that in the tumor cells, no relationship between S100A12 protein in stromal cells and the clinicopathological features described above was found ( p > 0.05). Abstract

Lymphatic metastasis is a common clinical symptom in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), the most common Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated head and neck malignancy. However, the effect of EBV on NPC lymph node (LN) metastasis is still unclear. In this study, we demonstrated that EBV infection is strongly associated with advanced clinical N stage and lymphangiogenesis of NPC. We found that NPC cells infected with EBV promote LN metastasis by inducing cancer-associated lymphangiogenesis, whereas these changes were abolished upon clearance of EBV genomes. Mechanistically, EBV-induced VEGF-C contributed to lymphangiogenesis and LN metastasis, and PHLPP1, a target of miR-BART15, partially contributed to AKT/HIF1a hyperactivity and subsequent VEGF-C transcriptional activation. In addition, administration of anti-VEGF-C antibody or HIF1α inhibitors attenuated the lymphangiogenesis and LN metastasis induced by EBV. Finally, we verified the clinical significance of this prometastatic EBV/VEGF-C axis by determining the expression of PHLPP1, AKT, HIF1a, and VEGF-C in NPC specimens with and without EBV. These results uncover a reasonable mechanism for the EBV-modulated LN metastasis microenvironment in NPC, indicating that EBV is a potential therapeutic target for NPC with lymphatic metastasis. IMPLICATIONS: This research demonstrates that EBV induces lymphangiogenesis in NPC by regulating PHLPP1/p-AKT/HIF1a/VEGF-C, providing a new therapeutic target for NPC with lymphatic metastasis., (©2021 American Association for Cancer Research.)
