Abstract

The proposed space-borne laser interferometric gravitational wave (GW) observatory TianQin adopts a geocentric orbit for its nearly equilateral triangular constellation formed by three identical drag-free satellites. The geocentric distance of each satellite is $\approx 1.0 \times 10^{5} ~\mathrm{km}$, which makes the armlengths of the interferometer be $\approx 1.73 \times 10^{5} ~\mathrm{km}$. It is aimed to detect the GWs in $0.1 ~\mathrm{mHz}-1 ~\mathrm{Hz}$. For space-borne detectors, the armlengths are unequal and change continuously which results in that the laser frequency noise is nearly $7-8$ orders of magnitude higher than the secondary noises (such as acceleration noise, optical path noise, etc.). The time delay interferometry (TDI) that synthesizes virtual interferometers from time-delayed one-way frequency measurements has been proposed to suppress the laser frequency noise to the level that is comparable or below the secondary noises. In this work, we evaluate the performance of various data combinations for both first- and second-generation TDI based on the five-year numerically optimized orbits of the TianQin's satellites which exhibit the actual rotating and flexing of the constellation. We find that the time differences of symmetric interference paths of the data combinations are $\sim 10^{-8}$ s for the first-generation TDI and $\sim 10^{-12}$ s for the second-generation TDI, respectively. While the second-generation TDI is guaranteed to be valid for TianQin, the first-generation TDI is possible to be competent for GW signal detection with improved stabilization of the laser frequency noise in the concerned GW frequencies., Comment: 18 pages, 13 figures, 1 table. Abstract

TianQin is a planned space-based gravitational wave (GW) observatory consisting of three earth orbiting satellites with an orbital radius of about $10^5~{\rm km}$. The satellites will form a equilateral triangle constellation the plane of which is nearly perpendicular to the ecliptic plane. TianQin aims to detect GWs between $10^{-4}~{\rm Hz}$ and $1~{\rm Hz}$ that can be generated by a wide variety of important astrophysical and cosmological sources, including the inspiral of Galactic ultra-compact binaries, the inspiral of stellar-mass black hole binaries, extreme mass ratio inspirals, the merger of massive black hole binaries, and possibly the energetic processes in the very early universe or exotic sources such as cosmic strings. In order to start science operations around 2035, a roadmap called the 0123 plan is being used to bring the key technologies of TianQin to maturity, supported by the construction of a series of research facilities on the ground. Two major projects of the 0123 plan are being carried out. In this process, the team has created a new generation $17~{\rm cm}$ single-body hollow corner-cube retro-reflector which has been launched with the QueQiao satellite on 21 May 2018; a new laser ranging station equipped with a $1.2~{\rm m}$ telescope has been constructed and the station has successfully ranged to all the five retro-reflectors on the Moon; and the TianQin-1 experimental satellite has been launched on 20 December 2019 and the first round result shows that the satellite has exceeded all of its mission requirements., Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure, invited article to a special section in PTEP

5. Crystallization of Simulated High-Level Nuclear Waste Glasses Under Heat Treatment and Its Impacts on Glass Durability

Abstract

Vitrification is currently the primary choice worldwide for high-level nuclear waste immobilization. This study investigated the crystallization behaviors of glasses containing 24%(mass fraction) and 30% simulated high-level nuclear waste, respectively, under different temperatures. According to X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and scanning electronic microscopy results, dendritic powellite(CaMoO4) phase and string-like Zr-cerianite (ZrxCe1-xO2) are the main crystalline phases when the glasses are heat treated at 800 ℃, while a great amount of hollow hexagonal oxyapatite(Ca2Ln8(SiO4)6O2) phases are observed in addition when the glasses are heated at 950 ℃. The chemical durability test shows that the heat treatment decreases the total normalized leaching mass loss of glass by about 1/3, with main contributions from B, Na, Mo and Ca. The normalized leaching mass loss of the glasses after heat treatment at 950 ℃ is smaller than that after heat treatment at 800 ℃. It indicates that the heat treatment of glass for crystallization improves glass durability.

Abstract

With the development of nuclear power technology in China, the need for glass vitrification of high-level liquid waste(HLLW) from a power reactor spent fuel has become more and more urgent. In this paper, the application prospect of cold crucible induction melter(CCIM) in the treatment of HLLW from a power reactor spent fuel is reviewed, and the technical advantages, design advantages and technological advantages of CCIM are described in detail. On that basis, some suggestions for the future development of CCIM are proposed.

Abstract

This cross‐sectional study aimed to determine the epidemiology of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions related to COVID‐19 in China. This study was conducted by 45 tertiary Grade‐A hospitals in China. Online and offline questionnaire data were obtained from patients infected with COVID‐19 between December 28, 2022, and February 21, 2023. The collected information included basic demographics, medical history, smoking and drinking history, vaccination history, changes in olfactory and gustatory functions before and after infection, and other postinfection symptoms, as well as the duration and improvement status of olfactory and gustatory disorders. Complete questionnaires were obtained from 35,566 subjects. The overall incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunction was 67.75%. Being female or being a cigarette smoker increased the likelihood of developing olfactory and taste dysfunction. Having received four doses of the vaccine or having good oral health or being a alcohol drinker decreased the risk of such dysfunction. Before infection, the average olfactory and taste VAS scores were 8.41 and 8.51, respectively; after infection, they decreased to 3.69 and 4.29 and recovered to 5.83 and 6.55 by the time of the survey. The median duration of dysosmia and dysgeusia was 15 and 12 days, respectively, with 0.5% of patients having symptoms lasting for more than 28 days. The overall self‐reported improvement rate was 59.16%. Recovery was higher in males, never smokers, those who received two or three vaccine doses, and those that had never experienced dental health issues, or chronic accompanying symptoms. The incidence of dysosmia and dysgeusia following infection with the SARS‐CoV‐2 virus is high in China. Incidence and prognosis are influenced by several factors, including sex, SARS‐CoV‐2 vaccination, history of head‐facial trauma, nasal and oral health status, smoking and drinking history, and the persistence of accompanying symptoms.

Abstract

With a growing concern about ecological issues nowadays, an unceasing re-greening tide of abandoned quarries is throughout the nation (China). However, with the rapid development of urbanization and the comprehensiveness of urban functions, we can’t fully realize the social, economic and cultural values of abandoned quarries by simply conducting green-mountain projects of abandoned quarries just from ecology. We takes Zhushan ecological park in Xuzhou as an example, analyzes the park's ecological and landscape characteristics, refers to the projects of abandoned quarries at home and abroad, and puts forward a sustainable development strategy of a systematic design-landscape for ecosystem, economy and culture. By this means, the ecological restoration and landscape reshaping can be favorable for the ecosystem, local economy, and improvement of people's living standards and the preservation of mining culture.

Abstract

Lupus nephritis (LN), an autoimmune kidney disease caused by systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is the inflammation of the kidney. Although the treatment of LN is still a therapeutic challenge for many practitioners, the present study aims to provide a new insight for the treatment and management. The study aims to explore the effect of A20 on LN in relation to the nuclear factor‐kappa B (NF‐κB) signaling pathway. MRL/lpr mice were used as the LN mouse model. Next, A20, UCH‐L1, and NF‐κB expression in LN patients and MRL/lpr mice was determined. A20 was upregulated in podocytes to assess biological functions of A20 in LN. Furthermore, to further investigate the pivotal role of the NF‐κB pathway in LN, the NF‐κB pathway was blocked in podocytes. Next, UCH‐L1 was downregulated in MRL/lpr mice to assess biological functions of UCH‐L1 in LN. A20 was downregulated, whereas UCH‐L1 was upregulated in LN. Overexpressed A20 declined NF‐κB, UCH‐L1 expression, and the extent of p65 phosphorylation. A20 overexpression or UCH‐L1 inhibition increased expression of synaptoporin and nephrin but decreased desmin expression and ubiquitin accumulation level in podocytes. Moreover, A20 overexpression or UCH‐L1 inhibition increased the podocyte number but decreased protein level of cleaved caspase‐3, podocyte lesion improvement, decreased foot process width, glomerulus basement membrane, and foot process fusion rate. In addition, urine protein, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, and ds‐DNA antibody levels decreased with elevated A20 or depleted UCH‐L1. Collectively, it could be concluded that A20 protects against podocyte injury in LN via UCH‐L1 by inactivating the NF‐κB signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
