Recent literature has revealed the upsurge of populism in political and media discourses across the world. However, few studies have acknowledged the importance of cultivating critical language awareness among citizens in democracies. Drawing on Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics and Fairclough's Critical Discourse, this study critically analyzes Trump's populist meaning-making choices in his inaugural address through both genre and register analysis to raise the urgency of cultivating citizens' critical language awareness through language education. To better illustrate Trump's genre moves and rhetorical strategies, this study sometimes analyzes Trump's inaugural address in comparison with other presidents' inaugural addresses. The findings indicate that Trump employs a combination of populist rhetorical style, which includes anti-establishment, anti-elitism rhetoric; collectivist rhetoric; pro-nationalist sentiments; and linguistic choices of simplicity and repetition to appeal to both supporters and opponents in an attempt to build solidarity. The implications of this study center on raising educators' and social scientists' awareness of the urgency to cultivate critical language awareness among citizens through language education. Equipped with critical language awareness, citizens can understand how politicians use linguistic resources to engage, persuade, and manipulate their audiences to achieve their political goals, and thereby can make informed choices about political leaders in the future. Millet bran is rich in nutrients and bioactive components. Polyphenols play an important role as one of the active components, but their properties are not very stable and are prone to oxidative degradation under certain conditions. In this paper, we extracted polyphenols from millet bran by ultrasonic combined with DESs and prepared micro-capsules by embedding them to study their physicochemical properties. The results showed that the total polyphenol content of millet bran was 10.58 mg/g under the conditions of ultrasonic-assisted extraction for 30 min at 45 °C with a material-liquid ratio of 1:36 g/mL. After the microcapsules were prepared, the structure of millet bran polyphenol microcap-sules was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, and it was found that the outer surface of the microcapsules was smooth and the particles were of uniform size. The infrared spectrum showed that the yeast cells had a good effect on the encapsulation of millet bran polyphenols; in the simulated gastric juice, the release of millet bran polyphenol microcapsules was faster than in the simulated intestinal juice, and the core material was released up to 96% within 2h, and the core material was basically released completely after 5 h. Microencapsulation increased the stability performance of millet bran polyphenols, and provided the theoretical basis for the deep development and utilization of millet bran. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using perspectives on language and language learning in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), including the traditional cognitive orientation, sociocultural theory orientation, and critical theoretical orientation as theoretical frameworks, this study critically analyzes 78 papers published from 2014 to 2020 in Chinese as a Second Language-The Journal of the Chinese Language Teachers Association, USA (CSL), a leading journal that is devoted exclusively to the study of Chinese language, culture, and pedagogy. This study investigates how the teaching and learning of Chinese language and culture has been conceptualized and enacted in the field of SLA and explores factors that contributed to frustration, dissatisfaction, or criticisms in this field (e.g., Lantolf and Genung, 2002; Li and Duff, 2008, 2018; Thorne, 2005). Additionally, this study raises awareness of the value of sociocultural and critical perspectives on language teaching and learning (e.g., Douglas Fir Group, 2016; Fairclough, 1992; Halliday and Hasan, 1985; New London Group, 1996; Vygotsky, 1978), suggesting more critical and sociocultural-oriented research to support learning Chinese as a world language in the context of globalization. Calculations based on the density functional theory were performed to evaluate the electrical response of BC3 nanotube (BC3NT) to temozolomide (TMZ) drug. Pristine BC3NT is shown to have a noticeable tendency toward the TMZ molecules, and the adsorption energy for the most stable configuration is about − 18.84 kcal/mol. By adsorption of TMZ on the BC3NT surface, the HOMO–LUMO gap of BC3NT dramatically decreases from 2.37 to 1.36 eV, so the electrical conductivity is increased noticeably. Furthermore, the work function of BC3NT is influenced by the TMZ adsorption, which substantially alters the field emission electron current from its surface and reveals that it could also be a work function-based sensor for the detection of TMZ. Drawing on Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory (SCT) and the theory of Instructional Conversation (IC), this study explores the development of L2 learners' understanding of the second conditional during an IC in an online teaching video made by Macmillan Learning Teaching Education. During the IC, the instructor leads students toward a conceptual understanding of the second conditional by providing appropriate mediation sensitive to the class's zone of proximal development (ZPD). The transcripts of the IC are analyzed with regard to the amount and type(s) of instructional mediation and the development opportunities created in this type of collaborative interaction. The analysis demonstrates the conceptual and linguistic development among the students in terms of the second conditional and shows the value of IC in creating a ZPD to promote L2 conceptual and linguistic development. A method of effervescent-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction based on the solidification of a floating organic droplet is reported. This approach was used to measure the fungicides myclobutanil, tebuconazole and epoxiconazole in vinegar and juice. Acidic vinegar and juice reacted with the carbonate to produce effervescence in situ, which then promoted contact of the sample with the extraction solvent. The 1-dodecanol extraction solvent helped solidify the floating organic droplets and could be fully dispersed by effervescence. The extraction solvent, salt, carbonate, and extraction time were optimised. The optimal conditions were 200 μL of 1-dodecanol, 100 mg of sodium chloride, 50 mg of sodium bicarbonate, and 30 s of extraction time. The proposed method has good linearity between 10 and 1000 ng mL−1. Recoveries were between 70.4% and 103.1% in different vinegar and juice samples. Objective: To construct and verify a model of lymph node metastasis in cN0 stage thyroid micropapillary carcinoma. To explore the significance of thyroid gland lobectomy combined with prophylactic zone Ⅵ lymph node dissection in cN0 stage thyroid micropapillary carcinoma surgery. Methods: The clinical data of 670 patients with cN0 stage thyroid micropapillary carcinoma and area Ⅵ lymph node dissection were collected. All patients underwent the affected thyroid gland lobe±isthmus resection+ area Ⅵ lymphadenectomy on the same side. Logistic regression model was constructed by gender, age, size of thyroid papillary carcinoma, whether it was multifocal, whether it was encroaching on the membrane, and whether the lymph nodes in the central area were metastasized, and displayed by nomogram. Discrimination and prediction accuracy were evaluated by C-index, calibration curve and ROC curve. An internal validation group was used to test the fitted model. Analyze the lymph node metastasis trend according to the largest tumor diameter. Follow-up analysis of the reoperation was conducted to evaluate the effect of initial surgery. Results: The rate of lymph node metastasis in area Ⅵ was 36.7%. Multiple regression analysis included three variables. The largest tumor diameter（ P <0.001）, male（ P <0.001） and young（ P <0.001） were the main independent risk factors for lymph node metastasis.
