Abstract

We report the results of searches for solar axions and galactic dark matter axions or axion-like particles with CDEX-1 experiment at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, using 335.6 kg-days of data from a p-type point-contact germanium detector. The data are compatible with the background model and no excess signals are observed. Limits of solar axions on the model independent coupling $g_{Ae}<2.5\times10^{-11}$ from Compton, bremsstrahlung, atomic-recombination and deexcitation channel and $g^{\text{eff}}_{AN}\times g_{Ae}<6.1\times10^{-17}$ from $^{57}$Fe M1 transition at 90 % confidence level are derived. Within the framework of the DFSZ and KSVZ models, our results exclude the axion mass heavier than 0.9 eV/c$^{2}$ and 173 eV/c$^{2}$, respectively. Abstract

The CDEX Collaboration has been established for direct detection of lightdark matter particles, using ultra-low energy threshold p-type point-contactgermanium detectors, in China JinPing underground Laboratory (CJPL). The first1 kg point-contact germanium detector with a sub-keV energy threshold has beentested in a passive shielding system located in CJPL. The outputs from both thepoint-contact p+ electrode and the outside n+ electrode make it possible toscan the lower energy range of less than 1 keV and at the same time to detectthe higher energy range up to 3 MeV. The outputs from both p+ and n+ electrodemay also provide a more powerful method for signal discrimination for darkmatter experiment. Some key parameters, including energy resolution, dead time,decay times of internal X-rays, and system stability, have been tested andmeasured. The results show that the 1 kg point-contact germanium detector,together with its shielding system and electronics, can run smoothly with goodperformances. This detector system will be deployed for dark matter searchexperiments.

Abstract

The CDEX-1 experiment conducted a search of low-mass (< 10 GeV/c2) Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) dark matter at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory using a p-type point-contact germanium detector with a fiducial mass of 915 g at a physics analysis threshold of 475 eVee. We report the hardware set-up, detector characterization, data acquisition and analysis procedures of this experiment. No excess of unidentified events are observed after subtraction of known background. Using 335.6 kg-days of data, exclusion constraints on the WIMP-nucleon spin-independent and spin-dependent couplings are derived., Comment: 12 pages, 19 figures

Abstract

The large yellow croaker (Pseudosciaena crocea), once a vital fishery resource in the East China Sea, has witnessed a substantial decline in its wild population towing to overfishing. The current resource circumstances mainly relies on artificial breeding, with limited contributions from wild populations. However, discriminating between wild and cultured populations of the large yellow croaker in market trade and parent fish selection remains largely dependent on experiential judgment, with precise and efficient discrimination methods lacking. In this study, the framework method was used to quantify the external morphological characteristics of wild and cultured populations. The differences in external morphology between the two populations were visualized using principal component analysis, and they were classified through stepwise discriminant analysis. Results revealed significant differences in the standardized morphological parameters among most large yellow croakers from these two populations. Additionally, their distributions on principal components 2 and 3 were dissimilar. Furthermore, significant sex-based differences were observed in the cultured population, whereas in the wild population, sex differences were comparatively minor. Cross-validation results revealed that the classification accuracy of distinguishing between different populations exceeded that for separating cultured or wild populations according to different sexes. These findings suggest that the framework method is effective for discriminating between cultured and wild populations of large yellow croaker, although it may not be as successful in distinguishing between individuals of different sexes in these populations. Abstract

We report results of a search for light Dark Matter WIMPs with CDEX-1 experiment at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, based on 53.9 kg-days of data from a p-type point-contact germanium detector enclosed by a NaI(Tl) crystal scintillator as anti-Compton detector. The event rate and spectrum above the analysis threshold of 475 eVee are consistent with the understood background model. Part of the allowed regions for WIMP-nucleus coherent elastic scattering at WIMP mass of 6-20 GeV are probed and excluded. Independent of interaction channels, this result contradicts the interpretation that the anomalous excesses of the CoGeNT experiment are induced by Dark Matter, since identical detector techniques are used in both experiments., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The China Dark Matter Experiment reports results on light WIMP dark matter searches at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory with a germanium detector array with a total mass of 20 g. The physics threshold achieved is 177 eVee ("ee" represents electron equivalent energy) at 50% signal efficiency. Abstract

The China Dark matter Experiment collaboration reports the first experimental limit on WIMP dark matter from 14.6 kg-day of data taken with a 994 g p-type point-contact germanium detector at the China Jinping underground Laboratory where the rock overburden is more than 2400 m. The energy threshold achieved was 400 eVee. According to the 14.6 kg-day live data, we placed the limit of N= 1.75 * 10^{-40} cm^{2} at 90% confidence level on the spin-independent cross-section at WIMP mass of 7 GeV before differentiating bulk signals from the surface backgrounds., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

A series of 120nm [FeCo/FeCo-SiO2]n multilayer thin films with different FeCo layer thicknesses (T=10-40 nm) and fixed FeCo-SiO2 layer thickness (20 nm) were deposited on flexible substrate (Mylar) by controlling the sputtering time under applied magnetic field. The magnetic properties of the multilayer thin films were investigated. The experimental results showed that the multilayer thin films had obvious in-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, which can be adjusted in a broad range by changing the thickness of FeCo layer. In addition, good soft magnetic performance was obtained. The coercivity in the easy axis Hce of the multilayer films with the T=10nm, 20 nm, 30 nm, and 40nm was 5 Oe, 25Oe, 10 Oe, and 8Oe, respectively. In frequency-dependent permeability spectra measurement, two resonance peaks of complex permeability spectrum were observed, especially for T=20 nm, which can be attributed to the complicated magnetic structure of FeCo and FeCo-SiO2 layer. By introducing multilayers with different effect anisotropy field, one can broaden the absorption peak while maintaining the high permeability, which would open the way for their potential applications as wide-band microwave absorber. Abstract

We experimentally demonstrated a simple and effective method to write long period fiber gratings (LPFGs) with low fiber grating birefringence using high frequency CO2 laser pulses. Such LPFGs were fabricated by introducing twist strains to the fiber and then exposing the fiber to the laser. We theoretically analyzed the influence of the twist strains on the spectra of the LPFGs, and examined bend characteristics of twisted long period fiber gratings (T-LPFGs). Experimental results showed that T-LPFGs exhibited clear spectra, low insertion loss, and low polarization-dependent loss (PDL) compared with conventional LPFGs exposed to a single-side CO2 laser beam. The slope of the linear equation of the distance between the two split resonance peaks in the bending experiment is 20.55 nm/m−1, which makes T-LPFGs sensitive bending sensors. Abstract

Background Both bone marrow stromal cells (BMSC) and olfactory ensheathing cells (OEC) have been demonstrated experimentally as promising for therapy of spinal cord injury (SCI). However, clinical use may be constrained by the margin neuronal differentiation capacity of BMSC as well as the limited number of isolatable OEC. This study therefore tested the efficacy of co-grafting human BMSC and OEC in treating thoracic SCI. Methods Rat SCI models were created with cushion forces. OEC were labeled with Hoechst 33342 and BMSC with BrdU or GFP. BMSC, OEC and BMSC plus OEC were injected into the injured sites of rat spinal cords. Histologic, electrophysiologic and functional approaches were applied to assess the effects of transplantation of these cell types. Results Behavioral evaluation showed an improvement in animals with all cell-based treatments. The co-graft led to significantly higher gait scaling. The latency of transcranial magnetic motor-evoked potential (tcMMEP) responses was also better restored in the co-graft group. Larger numbers and sizes of axon bundles through the transitional zone between the normal and injured regions were observed in the co-graft animals in comparison with all other animals. Transplanted bone marrow stromal cells were identified as neurofilament-positive in the co-grafted animals although the number of glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive cells remained the same in all groups. Abstract

Cystatins are physiological cysteine proteinase inhibitors. We used digital differential display (DDD) to clone two novel splice variants Rcet1-v1 and Rcet1-v2 which were isolated from adult mouse testis cDNA library. Sequence analysis revealed that Rcet1-v1 and Rcet1-v2 cDNAs are 454 and 610 bp in length, respectively, and each has four exons, but the lengths of their second and third exons are different, with the results that these cDNAs encoded two different putative proteins. The deduced proteins were 88 amino acid residues (RCET1-v1) and 140 residues (RCET1-v2) in length and have one potential signal peptide and one cystatin domain, respectively, but lack part critical consensus sites important for cysteine protease inhibition. These characteristics are seen in CRES subgroup, which related to the family 2 cystatains and primarily expressed in reproductive tract. RT-PCR analysis showed that Rcet1-v1 and Rcet1-v2 were specifically expressed in adult mouse testis, epididymis and cerebrum, but higher in testis than in epididymis and cerebrum. RT-PCR analysis also showed that Rcet1-v1 and Rcet1-v2 were specifically expressed in adult mouse pituitary and spermatogonium, but not expressed in spermatozoa. Results of in situ hybridization showed that Rcet1 gene expressed abundantly in mouse spermatogonium, spermatocytes and round spermatids; did not expressed in spermatozoa. At mouse testis different development stages, Rcet1-v1 and Rcet1-v2 were expressed very low from postnatal 1 day to postnatal 3 weeks; after postnatal 4 weeks, expressed steadily increased from postnatal 4 to 7 weeks, highest in postnatal 7 to 8 weeks, then keeping on the expressing level of postnatal 6 weeks in postnatal 13-57 weeks. All these indicated that Rcet1-v1 and Rcet1-v2 primarily expressed in mouse male reproductive tract and may play important roles in mouse spermatocytes and round spermatid development.
