Abstract

The catalytic flame retardant system has the characteristics of the low addition amount, high char formation efficiency, stable carbon structure at high temperature and so on. The research on flame retardant method and mechanism of the catalytic flame retardant system has become more and more important. In this paper, the status of research and development on catalytic flame-retardant polymer systems at home and abroad was reviewed. The applications research progress on metal oxides, carbon materials, metal salts, montmorillonite, molecular sieves and boron phosphors in catalytic flame-retardant polymer systems was introduced. The catalytic mechanism in the char-forming process of condensed phase was discussed. At last, it was pointed out that the development trend of catalytic flame retardant polymer materials is to develop new carbon materials represented by graphene and to achieve superfine and organic of catalytic flame retardant.

12. Metagenomic analysis of Tongxie Yaofang therapy for rat models of ulcerative colitis with liver depression and spleen deficiency syndrome

Abstract

Tongxie Yaofang (TXYF) has therapeutic effect on the ulcerative colitis (UC) with liver depression and spleen deficiency syndrome. This study investigated the changes in the gut microbiota of UC rats treated with TXYF. Wistar rats were divided into three groups: Control, dinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (DNBS)-colitis, and DNBS + TXYF (n = 8 per group). UC model was constructed via intrarectally injection of DNBS (25 mg DNBS and 0.25 mL 50% ethanol); rats in DNBS + TXYF group were administered with TXYF (20.8 g/kg) for 21 days. Physiological parameters were measured. Five samples from each group were selected for metagenomic analysis. TXYF treatment significantly reduced disease activity index, colon mucosal damage index, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha level. TXYF treatment prevented DNBS-induced dysregulation of gut microbial communities. Compared with DNBS-colitis group, the abundance of Firmicutesincreased significantly and that of Bacteroidetesand Proteobacteriadecreased in DNBS + TXYF group. Pathways such as protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum pathway was enriched in the DNBS-colitis group, whereas it was decreased in the DNBS + TXYF group. Thus, TXYF treatment could effectively restore the dysregulation of intestinal flora induced by UC.

26. Relationship between plasma high mobility group box-1 protein levels and clinical outcomes of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage

Abstract

Abstract Background High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), originally described as a nuclear protein that binds to and modifies DNA, is now regarded as a central mediator of inflammation by acting as a cytokine. However, the association of HMGB1 in the peripheral blood with disease outcome and cerebrovasospasm has not been examined in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Methods In this study, 303 consecutive patients were included. Upon admission, plasma HMGB1 levels were measured by ELISA. The end points were mortality after 1 year, in-hospital mortality, cerebrovasospasm and poor functional outcome (Glasgow Outcome Scale score of 1 to 3) after 1 year. Results Upon admission, the plasma HMGB1 level in patients was statistically significantly higher than that in healthy controls. A multivariate analysis showed that the plasma HMGB1 level was an independent predictor of poor functional outcome and mortality after 1 year, in-hospital mortality and cerebrovasospasm. A receiver operating characteristic curve showed that plasma HMGB1 level on admission statistically significantly predicted poor functional outcome and mortality after 1 year, in-hospital mortality and cerebrovasospasm of patients. The area under the curve of the HMGB1 concentration was similar to those of World Federation of Neurological Surgeons (WFNS) score and modified Fisher score for the prediction of poor functional outcome and mortality after 1 year, and in-hospital mortality, but not for the prediction of cerebrovasospasm. In a combined logistic-regression model, HMGB1 improved the area under the curve of WFNS score and modified Fisher score for the prediction of poor functional outcome after 1 year, but not for the prediction of mortality after 1 year, in-hospital mortality, or cerebrovasospasm. Conclusions HMGB1 level is a useful, complementary tool to predict functional outcome and mortality after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. However, HMGB1 determination does not add to the accuracy of prediction of the clinical outcomes.

Abstract

We present a multi-level growth model that yields some of the key features of perovskite oxide film growth as observed in the reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) and ellipsometry studies. The model describes the effect of deposition, temperature, intra-layer transport, interlayer transport and Ostwald ripening on the morphology of a growth surface in terms of the distribution of terraces and step edges during and after deposition. The numerical results of the model coincide well with the experimental observation.

Abstract

In-x Ga1-xN/GaN multiple quantum well (MQW) samples with strain-layer thickness lager/less than the critical one are investigated by temperature-dependent photoluminescence and transmission electron microscopy, and double crystal x-ray diffraction. For the sample with the strained-layer thickness greater than the critical thickness, we observe a high density of threading dislocations generated at the MQW layers and extended to the cap layer. These dislocations result from relaxation of the strain layer when its thickness is beyond the critical thickness. For the sample with the strained-layer thickness greater than the critical thickness, temperature-dependent photoluminescence measurements give evidence that dislocations generated from the MQW layers due to strain relaxation are main reason of the poor photoluminescence property, and the dominating status change of the main peak with increasing temperature is attributed to the change of the radiative recombination from the areas including dislocations to the ones excluding dislocations.

Abstract

We report the optical oscillations with monolayer periodicity observed by an oblique-incidence reflectance difference (OIRD) technique on the epitaxial growth of Nb-doped SrTiO3 on SrTiO3 substrate. The periodicity was verified by the simultaneously measured reflection high-energy electron diffraction intensity oscillations. The OIRD oscillation damps during deposition, but can recover after the growth is interrupted for some time. We interpret the optical oscillations as a result of the periodic changes of the surface morphologies due to the two-dimensional layer-by-layer growth of thin films.

Abstract

Oblique-incidence reflectivity difference (OI-RD) analysis is applied to detect the immunoglobulin-G and cytochrome biomolecules on standard glass substrates without fluorescence labelling. The OI-RD intensities not only depend on the protein structure, but also vary with the protein concentration. The results indicate that this method should have potential applications in detection of biochemical processes.
