3. High-performance green and blue quantum-dot light-emitting diodes with eliminated charge leakage

Abstract

Quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs) promise a new generation of efficient, low-cost, large-area, and flexible electroluminescent devices. However, the inferior performance of green and blue QD-LEDs is hindering the commercialization of QD-LEDs in display and solid-state lighting. Here, we demonstrate best-performing green and blue QD-LEDs with ~100% conversion of the injected charge carriers into emissive excitons. Key to this success is eliminating electron leakage at the organic/inorganic interface by using hole-transport polymers with low electron affinity and reduced energetic disorder. Our devices exhibit record-high peak external quantum efficiencies (28.7% for green, 21.9% for blue), exceptionally high efficiencies in wide ranges of luminance, and unprecedented stability (T95 lifetime: 580,000 h for green, 4,400 h for blue). The overall performance surpasses previously reported solution-processed green and blue LEDs.

15. Simulation of the Effects of Geometry on Performance of Luminescent Solar Concentrator Photovoltaic Devices

Abstract

This computational study presents the influences of device geometry, including shape, size, and thickness, on the performance of luminescent solar concentrator photovoltaic (LSC-PV) devices. LSC-PV device optical performance was simulated for 8 different device shapes: circular, regular triangular, pentagonal, hexagonal, square, and three rectangular with varying aspect ratios, with 10 different surface areas from 1 cm2 to 1 m2, and 10 different thicknesses from 0.2 to 5 cm; for 11 different concentrations, 10–110 parts per million (ppm), of 4 different organic dyes. Each of the LSC-PV devices employs monocrystalline silicon PV cells. The irradiance, as well as spectral distribution of irradiance received by the PV cells, has been simulated by means of Monte Carlo ray tracing to calculate the electrical power and power conversion efficiencies. The results show that triangles, pentagons, and hexagons have better optical performance than squares or circles. Furthermore, the optical internal loss of the LSC-PV device is positively correlated with the device size in which edge performance is relatively poor in larger size devices, and increasing lightguide thickness has a limited impact on the edge performance of the planar LSC-PV devices. Higher dye concentrations and greater stokes’ shifts of the dyes led to more significant edge emissions. The best performance of 3.24% was attained for 1-cm-thick, 100 cm2 small triangular units suitable for matrix-dense packing, using 110 ppm of LR305 dye with a high photoluminescence quantum yield (95%) and a relatively large stokes shift (29 nm).

Abstract

Lung cancer is the most prevalent severe illness in both sexes and all ages and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Late-stage diagnosis is the primary cause of its high mortality rate. Therefore, the management of lung cancer needs early-stage screening. Breath analysis is a non-invasive, low-cost, and user-friendly approach to diagnosing lung cancer. Among the various types of breath sensors, MOS gas sensors are preferred due to their high gas responses, fast response times, robustness, and lower price. This review focuses on the critical role of MOS gas sensors in detecting VOCs in lung cancer patients' exhaled breath. It introduces the basic working mechanism of MOS gas-sensitive materials, summarizes some high-performance MOS materials suitable for detecting potential lung cancer biomarkers and provides performance enhancement strategies. The review also briefly introduces the sensor array and its pattern recognition algorithm. Finally, we discuss the challenges in developing MOS gas sensors for lung cancer screening and present the prospect of using the e-nose for large-scale early lung cancer screening. Abstract

Summary Since the idea of pan-genomics emerged several tools and pipelines have been introduced for prokaryotic pan-genomics. However, not a single comprehensive pipeline has been reported which could overcome multiple challenges associated with eukaryotic pan-genomics. To aid the eukaryotic pan-genomic studies, here we present ppsPCP pipeline which is designed for eukaryotes especially for plants. It is capable of scanning presence/absence variants (PAVs) and constructing a fully annotated pan-genome. We believe with these unique features of PAV scanning and building a pan-genome together with its annotation, ppsPCP will be useful for plant pan-genomic studies and aid researchers to study genetic/phenotypic variations and genomic diversity.
